Commercial Hotel Thurso in Sunderland

Called in for a couple of drinks as our cruise ship was alongside in Scrabster. Really quaint bar, lovely pint of Belhaven Best and my wife enjoyed her pino grigio. Two really pleasant young women behind the bar and friendly locals. 100% recomend this bar if you are in town. Thanks for making us feel welcome.

Cracking pub. Good choice of drinks. Friendly staff. Good craic with the locals. Went in for a couple of beers ...ended up staying for a few more!!

We haven't been to the Com Bar since before covid and what a nice change since the owners have redecorated. It was always dingy and needed updating but now it looks like a cleaner more modern bright place to be, about time! Staff behind the bar were friendly and professional and the tables and chairs very clean. Didn't like some public vaping actually in the pub and because it was busy staff never noticed. Apart from that we'll be back. Thurso does need to look at itself as a tourist, and keep its bars etc up to date and not like an old backwater place. This would help business.

Very disappointed, no ventilation in Hootna’s very damp atmosphere. Could have done with windows or doors open but there was no opening windows, there had been a ventilation fan but it’s now a clock!! Would not go back.

Visiting from Glasgow for few days was recommended by a local. I have been every night and it’s a lovely bar. Bartender very helpful and also followed Covid rules what is also great to see. Tableservice was in place. If visiting Thurso I would recommend popping in

Brilliant bar with fantastic folk music mid week, not polished but a real local gem - I wish this was my local!

Visit here when in Thurso and always met with a friendly welcome , always having a good real ale on .

staff indulge in local gossip rather than serve you. A dingey old pub fitting for such a dingey town though. If you do get caught here just make sure it isn't on a wednesday as the hills have eyes extras will flock to play awful music out of tune and ruin an already bleak experience.

Every time we have been to Thurso we come here for a drink. The landlady and locals are so friendly, great prices too!!

I went to the comm to see a band, i was sitting on the only empty table, after 10 minutes one lady from the staff asked me to leave the table because it was for the band. I felt terrible, i tried to stand on the counter standing but i was embarrassed and feeling very unwelcome. I will not go there again

if you are looking to have a beer and hear the local chat, use the hotel's bar. a good selection of beers and friendly staff

Popped in past for a pint and to watch football on satellite tv. Good tv's to watch . Quite quiet . Very good lager . Prompt friendly helpful staff . Just a nice typical pub

Don't be as bold as to want a spirit with mixer (rum and coke) as you'll get a minute glass with your drink in it then be expected to pay full price for a full can of coke! In the 21st century you would have thought the owner could have installed a soda gun.

I appeared to be a burden to the staff to have to serve. After the rude display put on by the bar tenders I immediately left for the Holborn only a street away and it was a much friendlier establishment - I'd recommend the Holborn...

Probably the worst pub I've been to on my travels. I attended on a relatively busy Friday night only to be put on hold while the barmaid finished her local gossip with one of the regulars. I inquired about the selection of draught lagers only to be greeted with a sigh and a grand selection of 2. I was then served my overpriced, flat lager in a rush while such that the barmaid could rush back to her conversation. I am of the impression that this bar is for locals only! None of this accounts for the dirty, dank atmosphere the owner has perfectly cultivated. The pub looks as bad on the inside as it looks from the outside. I'd thoroughly recommend a visit to Top Joe's or the Holborn - neither of which made non-locals feel unwelcome. I reserve my biggest criticism for the horrible staff and reiterate - DO NOT GO HERE!

Excellent value B&B.; Super room, very good breakfast and attentive staff. Super pub too with real ale! WiFi everywhere.

I visited this pub in the evening after working in the area. Dirty, dark and dated. I was short changed by a barmaid with a serious attitude problem. Will NEVER be back.

La comercial o "Comm" - es realmente vale la pena mirar. Cuando la mayoría de las ciudades tienen esas horribles de los barras carácter, las estancias comm fiel a lo que es: un boozer. No hay pretensión de ser una elegante gastro-pub ratificó por Gordon Ramsey o aquellos otros chef vender vagabundos - pero que no venden buena ale. Es un poco oscura y probablemente no ha tenido una renovación desde la última Edad de Hielo, de hecho me hizo bastante nostálgico para la pensión cuando, el día que iría a mi pub local con gramps, 1980 mirándolo llegar mientras bebía un quebrado y limonada en un paquete de munched Salt 'n' shake. As a single traveller, it's always nice to go to a place that is welcoming. The locals all chatted and it turned into a fun time. Good beer. Not posh but worth a visit.

Yo estaba en el pub el 23 de abril con mi esposa y otra pareja, todos nosotros desde Canadá. Nos ha hecho arreglos para alojarse en el Lodge, así eran sólo Pentland en el pub por una pinta. El servicio era bueno y la gente en el juego de fútbol en pantalla gigante. En algún momento comenzamos a hablar con el director del hotel, un club/Sr. Youngson que, durante el transcurso de la conversación, descubrimos que habían servido en el Seaforth Visita de Canadá. From the outside it's pretty drab and still the same inside. Seating could do with a major overhaul unless you've got a boilersuit on.Lighting poor, floor filthy so decided not to eat.Drinks are expensive - Lager £3.80 it's too much for the "eh hum" experience.

Llamado aquí bebidas. Está situado en el centro de la ciudad y es de fácil acceso. Parece bastante poco atractiva desde el exterior y en general que continúa en el interior. Si esto es lo que quieres, entonces no hay nada malo con ello - tienen una pinta rápido - Thurso es generalmente bastante lúgubre.

Fui un martes por la noche y fue recibida con una calurosa bienvenida por parte de los lugareños y tenía un par de bebidas, utilice la conexión inalámbrica para decirle a mi esposa saber que había llegado en Thurso en mi moto y que todo estaba bien. Volví a la noche siguiente con algunos nuevos amigos desde el camping y pasamos una noche fantástica. Para la noche del miércoles fue absolutamente lleno y toda la gente era muy amable. Había fútbol en la gran pantalla de televisión en una parte del pub y a la vuelta de la esquina en el bar había música en vivo. Fue una visita inolvidable.

Visitamos este pub en la noche del miércoles con unos nuevos amigos que viajan y disfrutamos de la sesión de frecuencias miércoles abierto mike con los lugareños. Personal amable, la gente y buena música. Se lo recomendaría a otros como un lugar para salir de su habitación de hotel y disfrute de la hospitalidad de thurso y un poquito de whisky. Usquabae

Had the carvery last Sunday night and it was excellent service and food good and you need to leave some room for the delicious sweets

Quality pub , welcoming and fun. Visited on a Wednesday night. An open Mike affair was in full flow and the live music was local people. Great atmosphere .Tina and Kerry made us welcome and even after I left my phone in the pub it was handed in and returned to me safely. I would recomemend a visit.

To paraphrase PadiP says It serves booze and the people are friendlyTuesday night and the bar staff outnumber the punters; Wednesday night is live traditional music night and it's four deep at the bar.Big screens in both bars, juke box and pool table in the Lounge but no food which is a pain particularly as everywhere else, except the Spice seems to stop cooking at 8:30

Does what it says on the tin. Serves beer and wines and spirits. Not much other choice up there and the banter inside is great. Before you know it, everyone knows your business, s just go with the flow!
