Combermere Arms in Shropshire

Went for Sunday dinner and we found the portion sizes were lacking it's like the owner/chef think they are Michelin star establishment. My mixed roast beef was nearly £25 and you had next to no veg and only 3 roast potatoes it was more like a child's portion. My partner has had weight loss and even she managed to finish it when she is limited to what she can eat portion wise. They showed us the dessert menu and let me tell you we weren't giving them the time or day at the £9 plus price bracket and inadequate choices. We decided as a group to go to a dessert shop afterwards then give them more of our money and we left still being HUNGRY. Don't recommend this to anyone. If you are going to charge these prices make sure you make the portions/quality match and they certainly didn't.

Very disappointed meal in several ways, started off with Pate on the menu said was with a toasted bloomer and it came with toast slices. Soup was ok Within 30 seconds of our starters being taken off the table the mains turned up, without doubt these had been sitting under lamps, the Salmon was warm at best and the vegetables were cold for £20.95 shocking as was the response of the waitress, very little care or remorse, very disappointed as we have had good experiences here in the past. May not be calling or recommending anytime soon .

Visited for a Birthday lunch on Saturday for which they were able to accommodate our group of 10. We were on 1 long table in a private area which was perfect. The service was professional, efficient and friendly. The menu was varied with a good selection to choose from. All of the food was delicious. Some of the party had desserts which were equally as good. Would highly recommend.

Visited for our Christmas works do of 25+ colleagues. We pre-booked and Pia dealt with myself. The online booking service was easy and user friendly. Considering the number of us there was a large menu to chose from with a massive variety. Prior to the night we had a few amendments which the Pub was more than happy to change last minute. On the night we couldn't have asked for better service from the front of house staff and especially Pia. Nothing was too much to ask for, the food was all bought out to us at the same time so noone was waiting around, the wait time between courses was perfect. The food was spectacular and everyone was happy with the quality and sizes of their dishes. Drinks were flowing all throughout the night with staff bringing our drinks to our table and making sure we were not waiting at the bar. All staff dealt with us with a smile but a massive shout out to Pia whose service was exceptional. We will be returning. A very happy workforce, The Combermere Arms pleased over 25 people in one visit. THANK YOU!!

A large group of us visited in September and the food and service was absolutely outstanding. We’ve visited as a couple more recently and once again we were really pleased with our food and the warm welcome from the staff.

On walking into the Combermere arms you are instantly hit with an welcoming smile from the bar staff. Great atmosphere and amazing food. A must to try is the steak and kidney pudding its delicious. We will definitely be back!

IMHO, Brunning and Price do the best Sunday roasts, always consistently good whatever pub you visit. We love The Combermere and when a friend was leaving us after staying the weekend, this was a good choice to set him up on his onward journey. We all had roast chicken, the portion sizes are not for the faint hearted: half a chicken, crispy roast potatoes, greens, red cabbage, puréed carrots, pig in blanket and stuffing, we greedily topped them off with a Yorkshire pud (well worth it!). The service was excellent, it always is. B&P always employ and train their team members to the highest standard, their standards shine through. Highly recommended.

We’d heard mixed comments about this place recently and had eaten here last year which was okay, but not great… so gave it another try. Today’s lunch was lovely! The welcome was warm and friendly, the service was excellent and the food? Every plate cleared. We all had different meals and each one was lovely. Couldn’t fault anything. So much so it’s now our ‘goto’ for when we have friends visiting. Will be booking lunch again next week. Thankyou team Combermere

I love this pub. It has a great ambience, food, lovely staff. Although I'm not local I and family have experienced some special moments here. Long may it last as I want to return soon.

We love it here, probably the best Brunning and Price around, IMHO. The staff are always so welcoming and this was no exception, warm, friendly and nothing too much trouble (6.30pm 5/9). Our food was excellent: beef brisket lasagne which was scrumptious, just a shame there wasn’t more of it and crispy beef salad, my absolute favourite. Followed by the most delicious gooseberry cheesecake with stem ginger ice cream, such a generous portion, perfect for two. Great food, fabulous service and the added bonus of using our meal tickets made it a very enjoyable evening. Highly recommended.

Thoroughly enjoyed everything about our visit! We live not far away so thought we would try it started by going one evening early doors with the kids for a drink and to look at the menu. The atmosphere is lovely, massive choice of drinks and the menu looked excellent with lots of varying choice including “Italian week specials menu” We cook and eat well so can sometimes be hard to please and when choosing where and what to eat we like somewhere/ something that we wouldn’t cook or eat at home. The menu was excellent we both ordered it the Italian menu and as the deserts sounded so wonderful I had a started so that I’d have room For one. It certainly didn’t disappoint. I ordered the beef shin tortellini starter and the rum baba dessert and the ox cheek Ragu. All food was perfectly accompanied, service was exactly what it should be, excellent, all table service which seems to be a dying part of eating out these days, attentive without being constantly interrupted. It was that excellent we can’t wait to work our way through the menu as our local! Drink choice is excellent wether it’s beer. Spirits or wine the menu choice was extensive.

Rang and booked with little notice as visiting the area. Male employee whom answered the phone was lovely, welcoming and helpful. Arrived 5:30pm on a Sunday afternoon - lovely and quiet. Efficient service, fabulous food (Highly recommend the Salmon Linguini!) and overall a lovely pub with fab furnishings, lovely relaxed ambience and friendly attentive team. Thank you so much!

Went to this pub because it offered gluten free menu for one of our party. Pub looks fine and the staff were very attentive. The menu choice was very good. everybody in the party enjoyed their meal including the dessert. With one exception, my dessert was very disappointing. My choice was the Rum Baba. If you would like a small upside down sponge muffin soaked in nothing then this is the dish for you but not for me at nearly £8.

Four of us went for Sunday dinner and thoroughly enjoyed our meal and time here. The food was excellent with a very good gluten free menu for myself who is a coeliac. We have been to most B&P chains but the Combermere has to be one of the best, we will definitely be returning.

Top quality food that caters to people who have to be careful with their diets. The selection on offer has an appeal for most people with large portions superbly cooked. It is a first-class pub that has to be amongst the best in the country

Hubby took me out for my birthday lunch. I had wild boar, pork & parsnip pie with mash & veg which was lovely. Difficult to choose as I liked everything on the mains menu.

A cold February lunchtime but restaurant was warm and welcoming with log fires and a lovely ambience. Checked in at bar then escorted to our table, given menus and drinks orders taken. A large very comprehensive menu, excellent choices also for vegetarians. Drinks delivered quickly and food order taken. Both our meals arrived in an appropriate time, were good portion sized and were both excellent . Although the restaurant was very busy throughout our visit, service was outstanding, friendly, informative and most professional. We are regular visitors to other B and P restaurants, The Combermere Arms is the very best of them

Delicious meals, lovely surroundings and friendly staff... what more could you ask for? This isn't your run of the mill 'pub food'. A very varied menu . The Crispy beef salad was so tasty. Maybe slightly more expensive as a result but definitely worth it. Our second visit but definitely not our last!

This is a superb pub /restaurant serving quality food suitable for everyone . The food is much superior to local four-star hotels and is the place to eat in the area

Often have lunch here as it's a great meeting point for friends and family between the Cheshire and Shropshire. Lovely Brunning and Price pub as you'd expect from the chain. Friendly people and the service is second to none. Bacon chop and cheese pie went down well with my fellow diners. I chose badly I think, the king prawns with pasta and tomato sauce was a little bland. Be back here soon, it's a great country pub.

I have always loved all the B&P pubs but everyone at our table felt the portions aren’t what they used to be. I’m sorry, but I didn’t enjoy the pumpkin tortellini, but it is something I wouldn’t usually pick so maybe just not to my taste.

Super friendly venue with delicious food well prepared and cooked. Never been before but would definitely visit again if an opportunity occurs. Very spacious and airy with an excellent menu.

I love this place. Its very convenient to my daughter and her family. I love it as its a great pub, great for snacks, brilliant for a light meal, good for dinner or a good venue for pre wedding meal. A work outing. Not to be overlooked

We visited the Combermere Arms as we usually do annually when pumpkin picking at Malpas. Unfortunately, yesterday's visit was a disappointing one. The £20 roast dinner was extremely underwhelming with just two small dollops of vegetables on the plate: purple cabbage and green cabbage. That's it. The beef and yorkshire pudding was nice, but the meal was lacking. I don't know if my roast was missing extra vegetables? Looking around the room, I couldn't see that my roast looked different to anyone else's. At £20 a roast, I would expect a selection of seasonal vegetables on my plate or even as a side dish. You can't hike up your prices so much and reduce the food on people's plates to this degree. I don't think we'll be visiting next year.

The Combermere Arms is a fantastic place for a quality pub dining experience. From the minute you walk through the door you are met with a very positive impression of its spotlessly clean, welcoming ambiance. Staff are quick to extend a really great welcome and settle you at a table with menus and take a drinks order, which is followed up by quick service and courteous pleasantries. The menu is a real gem, packed with a great variety of superb choices. My wife and I were staying in the area and having had a brilliant couple of visits the previous year and during this summer, we decided to book three lunches during our holiday - it turned out to be a wise move. Head Chef Craig should be rightly proud of the superb food he and his team produce and he can feel confident while he is working hard in the kitchen, front of house colleagues are doing an amazing job - special thanks go to Ross, Susanne and Jane for table serve that would rival many 4 star hotels! The atmosphere in the pub is excellent - we cannot praise the Combermere Arms and amazing staff too highly!

Lovely pub, lovely lunch as I'd expect from the Brunning and Price chain. The menu gives a good choice from salads to more hearty meals. I particularly enjoyed the the mini dessert with hot drink - the mini waffle with banana, honeycomb ice cream and caramel was delicious. Service was good but not overly friendly but then you can't see a smile behind a face mask!

Ate here a few weeks ago during lockdown. Didn't feel really safe. \Many rules not being adhered to. Too many 'new' staff (none wearing face coverings) so quite a few errors in our ordering. To be fair management offered us free dessert.

Recently joined following my first staycation stayed at the combermere abbey (not sure if they are linked to the pub?) visited a few pubs in the area and this pub was by far the most covid friendly which allowed me to sit back and relax! The service here was outstanding to say the least my waitress couldn’t do enough for us and was so personable throughout so much so that we popped back in for lunch the next day! The crispy beef salad is to die forrrrrr! I took a photo but I must’ve had a few too many vinos as it’s a tad blurry ha! Would say though it doesn’t look as good as some of the other pubs could do with a lick of paint!

Ate at 6.30pm on Sunday evening ( still busy) .. greeted warmly ... Plenty of hand sanitizer available.. we were shown to the table .....very nicely spaced .. Our waitress with her full face visor ... asked if we would like a drink and gave us plenty of time to look at the menu ..very relaxed atmosphere ... Food was yummy (the biggest Yorkshire’s I ever seen ) altogether a nice relaxed dinner and evening ... We didn’t see any issues of the raised in previous tripadvisor comments ... Did they go to the same place as us ...????? Cause we will be telling family and friends about this gem in the country ... Very Covid-19 secure throughout the building ..

We went on Sunday. It was lovely The staff were amazing! We have been before about a year ago and It has certainly stepped up since we last came! Food was terrific! Table was cleared quickly and nothing was too much. All staff were attentive even taking notice of our son. Would highly recommend if you have a family or even if you are out for a date night. The Combermere has always been a firm favourite of ours. Good food, friendly staff and a warm atmosphere.The last couple of times we have visited it has been a noticeably different atmosphere. Social distanced appeared to be in place inside the pub.This was DEFINATLEY NOT the case in the beer garden.Initially two people talking until eventually ten people in the group no more than 30 cm apart, certainly not the 1m goverment covid guidelines,there was coughing and sneezing,with smokers in the group not caring where they exhaled their smoke. A family left and moved inside due to this.What has normally been a quality recomended place to visit for atmosphere and quality food has disapointed. The food was substandard, smaller than normal portions, and bland.Highly disapointing, we wont be returning.

Average food, some quite good, some not. My main memory is that it’s obscenely overpriced - probably because they can get away with it. The sea bass - is obviously farmed (size & taste) and not fresh caught, I suppose that’s what you get from the location. Garlic bread served as pre-meal nibbles - 4 pieces between 5 people! They really should try harder. Overall experience = very overrated.

This is one of the only places I visited when I was in the area that seemed to have really thought about their Covid-19 precautions. Its a lovely pub, staff were great, food was good and would not hesitate to recommend.

first visit since lockdown, place was very busy due to the 50% off August deal however there was no drop in service or quality in the food which was all great.

This was the first time we had been to a restaurant/pub since the covid outbreak. The social distancing measures and additional cleaning regime were very reassuring, but not at the expense of service. We enjoyed our lunch in the sunny garden.Food was lovely, and the walk in was a great slice of luck for us!!

This Pub has good Covid control measures and they are explained to you well during your visit which puts you at ease.The Sunday lunch menu was not extensive, but adequate. I went for joint roast of beef and pork. The food was presented nicely on the plate, was hot and a fair portion. It did not have a home cooked flavour sadly, rather an “assembled from a production line” quality.Jenny was our very efficient server who make sure we were comfortable. Prices are a little high for the quality of food served.

Great food. We had a wide range. Sausages and mash was very well received but the braised lamb shoulder and dauphinois was exceptional. Other mains going by looked equally good - fish and chips in particular. Sweets and cheese also excellent. We had two very young children who were very well treated and who enjoyed it too. I booked 2 weeks ahead for 4 people for my daughters 40th birthday. This included a request for meals for 2 vegans. We've used this place many times and have in recent times had a good choice of vegan dishes.It was a poor start when the bar staff couldn't find the Bacardi. We found our reserved table but waited 15 minutes for the Bacardi and coke and 30 minutes before a waitress came to take our orders. We were informed there was only 1 vegan dish (tagine) but others might be adapted i.e. ingredients removed.We have in the past been supplied with a seperate vegan menu.We were told that bookings weren't reviewed until the day and the menu was based on ingredients available.Despite having traveĺled by taxi we decided to leave and called for a taxi home.In this day and age I find it totally unacceptable that despite advance warning a restaurant is unable to offer a choice of vegan meals and a "chef" is unable to produce vegan options other than modified dishes from the menu. The response from staff was unacceptably blasé and ruined what was meant to be a special night. We will never use this establishment again and suggest they need to respond to the growing demand for vegan options and take note of the "dietary requirements " on their booking system.

We have been visiting this pub for many years and have never been disappointed until we visited last night. We tried to order a drink at the bar but we were ignored on three occasions by the young staff Serving, there were regulars coming to the bar after us and were served before us. Had it not been for me asking if there was a particular side we needed to wait for a drink as everyone else was getting served before us, the young lady did eventually serve us but didn’t look impressed that I had stopped her serving yet another regular and served our drinks and said our table was in the garden room. What a bad start to our evening out, this kind of first hand service needs to be addressed. Everything else was perfect the starters and mains were very tasty. Think it will be a while before we visit again and hopefully the bar staff might have improved new customer service, not just for the regulars.

We have been here on several occasions in the past but something has changed. The staff and service has always been friendly and efficient but on our last visit the staff seemed to lack direction and be unapproachable and positivley unfriemdly! Such a shame.

Having not been to The Combermere for a few years, due to a bad experience, this return visit was excellent.A group of 5 visited to have a Sunday birthday lunch, food & service was excellent. I had roast lamb, succulent meat & generous portion of vegetables & roasties. It was a very tasty & delicious meal, we all had clean plates.I recommend this venue for a superb pub meal, which offers a fabulous setting, great dining layout catering for all different size of groups & with a menu of local fayre to make the mouth water.

We were staying at the very near by Combermere Abbey. The was the closest pub to eat at but it was a great find. Lovely food and really friendly and help full staff.

We've had many great evenings at this welcoming friendly pub with delicious menus and a good ales. The service is swift and efficient and the food always tasty and hot. They've kept the feel of the country pub with tiled floors and dogs welcomed, but also created a very nice place to enjoy a meal. We'll be back again soon

Love this place, a regular for us. Great food, great staff. Best of all, dogs are allowed. Plenty of room and real fires in the winter.

We had visited The Combermere Arms in June 2017 and having been in the area on our journey my wife and I decided to stop again for a lunch snack on Friday 29th and we enjoyed our food.

I regularly call at the combermere arms with my partner, and with work colleagues. A great ambience, fabulous food and vast selection of drinks.

what a great place to visit, went with family to celebrate my daughter's birthday, the food was well presented, hot and beautifully cooked, the establishment was spotlessly clean, the service was great and the staff very friendly, all in all I would recommend The Combermere Arms and would definitely go again, loved it there. Arrived at The Combermere Arms to find it beautifully decked out for Christmas and busy for a Thursday lunchtime. The service and the meals were excellent - and we thoroughly enjoyed our visit. 😊

Had a lovely Sunday lunch with my girls and the grandchildren, the food was beautifully presented and tasted delicious, a little on the expensive side to be completely honest but it was nice.

Lovely atmosphere, log fire just what was needed on a cold November day. Food excellent and plenty of it, staff very attentive. Would suggest booking if you go Friday, Saturday or Sunday as it soon gets busy.

We love The Combermere Arms, snug cosy rooms with open fires and great decor.
