Colonna and Small's Speciality Coffee in Bath and North East Somerset

Coming here around 11am it was packed however, manage to secure a seat as someone left a table near the door. Ordered oat cappuccino and carrot cake the barista recommend me to try it wasn't disappointing. The baristas all smiling, the atmosphere was lively yet warm community coffee vibes, you definitely can sit there for hours doing people watching or just killing time. One of my absolute coffee shop in Bath, if you have time this place is a must visit

Given the price and the shop’s reputation, I had higher expectations. Unfortunately, the coffee was quite ordinary, even below average. Not really worth it.

One of our favourite cafés in Bath, we are regulars and also buy their roasted grains for home, so can only recommend it 😀

A long established specialty coffee gaff that has moved with the times and seems to be successfully navigating the torrid water of modern day hospitality. The espresso from Ethiopian beans is a winner.

Please may I suggest that you keep a dark roast (under the counter) for those of us simple souls that enjoy an espresso that isn't sour? Buy it from Italy.

It used to be a centre of excellence for coffee, alas, Icarus flew too close to the Sun. I don't mind having my long black corrected to a "lungo" and, yes, I do understand they are different, but that doesn't need to be done with a smarminess rivalling that of our local Tory MPs. I've previously had excellent experiences here; great service, even better coffee, but 2024 has seen their fall from grace. This trip will be my last. I spent £20 on 150g of their "rare" Gesha, only to find it has the nostril notes of peas, and the oral notes of battery acid. I've spent more money on fewer beans and had an exponentially better experience. Perhaps the rarity of the beans explains why they were a month old when I purchased them. 2 stars instead of 1 because I've discovered freewill and will use that to never return. 🤝🏻

I had a lovely time here. They served great coffee and excellent hot chocolate. They took coffee very seriously; there is a large collection of coffee machines downstairs. If u want to charge your phone or computer, there is a very limited socket there, so it would be good to have more sockets.

Came for the pourover, left disappointed. The grinder was being 'cleaned'. However, we did have espresso. The espresso we had initially was the house Ethiopian which was good, nothing unusual or exciting particularly, then also tried a fancier Nicaraguan which was excellent, really balanced, sweet and fruity and worth the visit alone. Will have to come back another time to try some pourover!

This place is a real gem, slightly off the beaten track but kind of diagonally opposite the Jane Austen museum. The coffee is so smooth and tasty, lots of varieties to choose from and the owner/staff are serious coffee buffs. Highly recommend.

Top 3 decaf oat milk lattes of all time for me. This place is next level in terms of coffee geekiness - in a good way. And not only that but they are welcoming and sell all kinds of coffee gear and books. Honestly it’s quite spectacular.

Found my perfect cappuccino at Colonna. Loved the ambience, service, and beyond all, the taste of coffee they created.

Made a Google search for speciality coffee shops in Bath and this lovely place came up. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff (Doug & Nina on this occasion) with high quality coffee made with the right quality of water and I will also back up claims made about the carrot cake which acts as an added bonus to the overall experience. Looking forward to my next visit, picked up some beans on the way out. Thanks Colonna & Smalls Tom

Fui por su expreso característico, y fue excepcional – suave, bien - equilibrado, con una profundidad de sabor encantadora. Se nota que realmente conocen sus granos aquí, y su enfoque en obtener los mejores cafés únicos es evidente en cada taza. También ofrecen una variedad de métodos de preparación, desde el vertido hasta la preparación en frío, por lo que hay algo para cada tipo de entusiasta del café.

We couldn’t actually get in here, as there were 2 tables that could have seated up to 8 people, that were occupied by people settled in on their laptops. Maybe the staff/management need to address this problem, because you just lost 2 customers.

I had the filter coffee and it was pretty average. A bit watery and a bit cold. The carrot cake was delicious. They put the napkin and fork under it though, which is bizarre.

Very cosy place on a very quiet & central street in Bath. The atmosphere is lovely and they make great use of their indoor space. The staff are also friendly & approachable. I've been there many times and have never really enjoyed their coffee, but the atmosphere & vibes make up for it. Their wifi never works well and the service can be very slow. I'd still go there, nevertheless.

I recently visited this café in Bath and was thoroughly impressed by both the quality of the coffee and the delicious cakes on offer. Coffee: We ordered the Inzi Colombia Coffee and Ruby Coffee, and both were exceptional. The richness and depth of flavor in each cup were something you shouldn’t miss if you find yourself in Bath. Whether you’re a coffee connoisseur or just someone looking for a great cup, this place is absolutely worth a visit. Cakes: We tried the Carrot Cake and the Orange and Blueberry Cake. The Carrot Cake was, without a doubt, one of the best I’ve had in the UK. The sweetness was perfectly balanced, and you could truly taste the carrot in a soft, spongy texture that wasn’t overly sweet or heavy—just right. As for the Orange and Blueberry Cake, it was also delightful, with a fresh, zesty flavor that complemented the coffee well. Atmosphere: The café had a cozy, welcoming vibe, but I do think adding some background music like deep house or jazz would enhance the overall experience. It would create a more relaxed ambiance and elevate the already great atmosphere, making it an even more enjoyable place to unwind. If you’re in Bath, don’t miss the chance to visit this café. The carrot cake stole the show. Perfectly moist, the icing not too sweet and no overpowering cinnamon which I find in many other carrot cakes. The Espresso was decent, nothing extraordinary. Service was attentive and good. Seating is limited and the stools are very small and narrow

I stopped by for a coffee and was pleasantly surprised. The barista was clearly knowledgeable, offering me a selection of different espressos to choose from, which was a nice touch. The coffee I ordered was excellent. Although I haven’t had a chance to try their pastries yet, they looked delicious. I’d love to return.

I read the reviews on google and try. Yes, the artisan coffee is great, the staff is knowledgeable and friendly. The atmosphere is relax and I like the simplicity decor. It offers outdoor seat but it’s a bit small and not spacious. I couldn’t give 5 stars: - price is bit high ( carrot cake + cappuccino £8) I understand here is Bath city centre. - The seat is made of hard wood and it is narrow and small, it is not comfortable to sit on. - I know there’s lots of good comments for the carrot cake, think it’s not my taste. The frosting is really good, soft and not too sweet, the sponge is moist. However, the taste is bland. No raisins, no nuts and no cinnamon flavour and the key issue to me is I taste the strong baking soda.

Sublime coffee which is different to standard cafe stuff in taste, quality and process. The friendly staff are passionate about coffee - come here to experience crafted coffee and if curious to learn a bit about how various aspects of making coffee influence the taste. I have completely changed my views of coffee since frequenting Colonna & Small's.

Excellent coffee. One of the best I have tasted actually. The quality is so good. The staff are really knowledgeable and friendly. The environment is very calm, with an indoor and outdoor seating area. I had plant based milk, which seemingly was an extra cost - rather a pity - but otherwise positive.

Drinking a perfectly smooth flat white with immaculate swan foam art and eating a slice of their carrot cake while on a microdose of LSD is an erotic experience. Nice soft jazz music too. Highly recommended.

Me recomendaron probar esta cafetería en el baño y nuestro airbnb estaba muy cerca de la cafetería, pero no logramos visitar hasta nuestro último día. Fue realmente genial ver entonces hacer café sin dejar de usar airpress y fue genial probar sus granos de gesha a £ 5. 50 . Su pastelería era muy sabrosa también y todo el lugar respiraba café y su arte.

Both flat white espressos are delicious. It's only 5 minutes from Roman Baths, so be sure to visit.

Pretentious and disappointing. I've visited a few times now and the experience has only gotten worse as time has gone on. The person serving patronisingly explained coffee whilst outloud judged what you ordered. After not listening and making the wrong order we had to re-order a missing flapjack which was now too late to enjoy with the coffee. This was then forgotten about again and we subsequently decided to take it away after paying for the privilege of eating in. On top of this the coffee was average at best.

A great location with interesting bean varieties to try. Look out for the small garden at the back for a quieter drink.

Lovely Coffee House on a quiet street with a calm and relaxing atmosphere 😎 The coffee is excellent 👌 made by professional knowledgeable baristas offering some excellent speciality coffees. If you want a treat or you're a coffee lover, this place is definitely worth the small walk from the hussel and bussel of the busy shopping streets. This is a little gem of excellence in a quiet, calm environment in a beautiful part of the city 😀 My flat white was £3.90. Found my way out to the small yard out the back, which was lovely and cool 😁

Pretentious coffee. Expect tasting commentary with accents and notes of.... Good if that's your thing. Silly otherwise.

As so many say, fabulous coffee - quite possibly the best short black I've ever had. Friendly staff - who offer good advice about which coffee will suit your favoured style - and good snacks add to the great feeling about the place. Definitely recommended.

Colonna & Small’s has made awesome artisan coffee for a long time. Most coffee shops in Bath arguably have caught up in the quality stakes. With a new direction and injection of enthusiasm it’ll be delivering awesome coffee for generations to come.

Staff were friendly. Ample space. Great selection of coffee.

Tucked away from the tourist track! First visit was great very bush with mix of sit in and takeaway customers. Menu changes with choice of three filter and three espresso blends so always something new to try. My second visit Saturday 25 a little less crowded but again great service when ordering they prepare your coffee and bring to your table. A must for the coffee connoisseur!

If you are serious about your coffee this is the place to go in Bath. They know what they are doing and are happy to talk you through it. Naturally the coffee is fantastic!!

The place looks quite serious and they are visibly trying to hit a mark of a quality specialty roaster and brewer. Having said so, despite having four people at the rush hour they are not coping with the load well. It took 20 minutes from ordering to receiving 2 cups of coffee, and the filter felt under-extracted…

Never leave google reviews. But this experience deserved one. 20 minutes wait for a takeaway cappuccino is unacceptable

They take great pride in their coffee. The Barista made recommendations on beans for my flat white and suggested a new approach to a transitional Americano. When I am back in Bath, I will be sure to enjoy the shop again.

Lovely place, with excellent coffee (and cakes) served by super friendly people. Probably the most obsessive coffee place i've been to - and it shows in their coffee. Highly recommended.

A class act. Knowledgeable staff and tender care have been given in not just the preparation of our drink but everything else from farm to cup - cultivation, selection (some unique beans available) production, and procurement. Responsible and sustainable best practice seems to be applied here, which made my cup of Ethiopian Gesha ever more delightful. Worth a visit for a cup or three for a coffee enthusiast.

staff is friendly, they explained to us about different coffee. I ordered a latte, which is pretty good. the fresh brewed isn't my favourite. brownie taste super yummy, not too sweet, with a hint of salty. would recommend that.

Average filter coffee, was hoping for more because of the review. I find the filter coffee itself is a bit overrated. The cappuccino and atmosphere were amazing.
