It provides an authentic Sri Lankan food experience in a nice ambience. Service is excellent and not expensive either. Highly recommend it for both formal dining and friendly gatherings.

What an interesting find. Has fun Sri Lankan specialities which have a ton of flavour. Also went there for brunch menu which was really nice.

The food we had was very tasty but it would’ve been better if we’d been told about the specials. We over heard specials being mentioned while we were eating our main course. We both would’ve had a proper curry, if we’d known about them.

Avoid very disappointed didnt eat the food

been to colombo street first time with my wife. The service was ok, atmosphere was good. We tried mutton rice, kottu and curries with hoppers. food was actually well presented and tasty but the prices here little salty in my opinion and the portion are definitly small, especially for a male, adult. Matter of fact after £40 bill I had a burger on my way home. also if you order string hoppers there isn't any curry comin with it, so the curry you have to order separetely which is similer to buying the hot dog bun and sausage separetly to give you an idea...string hoppers are traditional srilankan, supposed to come with at least 1 curry or coconut sambal. If the portions were little more generous or either the prices bit lower I think its actually a lovely place to dine in👍🏽

Went with a group of 7 people. Very nice Srilankan food. Spicy the way we would have liked it. Tried a lot of things and all of them were pretty nice. A very large drinks menu is also there and the mocktails and cocktails were nice as well. Recommended!

Nice friendly restaurant. You have the choice of eating inside or outside . Decorations is typically sri lankan unique painting and wall decoration.

Was really looking forward to a traditional Sri Lankan fish curry like I previously saw on their menu, was excited for something familiar as i am half Sri Lankan and haven’t had a curry in years. Slightly disappointed to find a completely different menu to the one i saw on the website previously, no hoppers? No currys? I thought I was in the wrong restaurant for a moment. This was hoped to be a meal reminiscent of my time living in Sri Lanka but instead it was more of a fusion Indo-Chinese cuisine. The staff however were absolutely lovely, extremely welcoming so five stars for service.

I have never tried Sri Lankan food. Food was delicious, especially coco chicken Kottu; Mutton curry was nice too. Hopper was a gem. The texture was great, the outer part was crispy and inner part was a bit soft like pancake. Love the traditional spirit Ceylon Arrack. I’d definitely recommend it to my friends.

We had a superb meal at Columbo Street on Saturday 4th May. We were in for lunch and enjoyed starters, followed by three of the Platter meals (one prawn, one chicken and one mutton) which come with rice, dhal, sambol and a poppadom and we added sides of Pol sambol and egg hoppers. All of it was wonderful and we also enjoyed cocktails, beers and whiskey. There was one dessert ordered between the three of us (we were pretty full) to finish off the meal. The food was wonderful, the service was excellent and we had a fabulous time. Very authentic food (we were brought up with Sri Lankan parents/grandparents) so we are familiar with this beautiful cuisine. Definitely returning. Thanks so much for a lovely meal to celebrate a 60th birthday.

It’s good food, but unfortunately they are aware of that so will charge unreasonably high prices. It’s fine, but don’t go near if you want to spend less than £25pp I assume they are expensive because they are somewhat near the town centre…..£12 for the cheapest curry. Maybe go here for a special occasion at best.

Food amazing, authentic, freshly cooked and very tasty, unlike some restaurants that have commercialised taste. The mocktails are awesome and very tasty, the staff are super friendly and attentive and the atmosphere is great, snug and has a homely feel. Will definately be back.

Excellent food and service. Our first visit, but not our last. We visited on a Friday afternoon, so it was very quiet/not many diners, so couldn’t properly judge the atmosphere.

Very tasty food—will definitely return!

We have dined here several times. Unfortunately they have removed their indo-chinese menu, converting it into a steam table buffet, which wasn't appealing. Several dishes we had enjoyed were no longer available, for example the shrimp toast and peking duck roll. The remaining (and original) menu is limited and on the expensive side for portion size. Service was acceptable (drinks were slow but everything else OK). Noise levels were fine. Given the large number of south Asian restaurants nearby with larger menus and better prices, we probably won't be going back soon.

Colombo Street is a fabulous place to go if you love Sri Lankan food. You'll find tasty dishes, a cosy place, and great service. It's an experience you won't forget. The ambience of Kolamba adds to the dining experience, with decor that's both stylish and reflective of Sri Lankan culture, creating a cozy yet exotic vibe. We always leave feeling full and happy, and we can't wait to go back.

Went pre-theatre. Shopfront is relatively small, but place is like a tardis. Spacious and clean. Air conditioned. Chose £20 deal for starter, main and dessert or cocktail. Glad i went for the cocktail. Plenty of alcohol and well made. Would otherwise have cost £10.50, so good value within the deal. Starter was a bit small, but main course made up for it. Delicious and good value for money.

We were part of a group booking, I went for buffet choice. Not a good experience TBH, half the food had run out so your constantly waiting for chef to restock, not the best buffet food either. As we don't eat meat, your waiting around for suitable choices tonbe restocked. Personally, I wouldn't go again.

Went here for my birthday and it was incredible. Colombo street was very accommodating and we had great service throughout, and felt very comfortable. The atmosphere was lovely with great decor and the food was AMAZING. Very filling with fantastic flavours. Due to our large party of 12 people, it was inevitable for service to be a little slower but everyone received their food and enjoyed it! They even gave me a complementary birthday cake slice which was so generous. Would definitely recommend if you'd like a taste of South Asia, with stunning flavours and dishes!

One of the best food that I ever tasted!

We went for the Sunday buffet. Food was delicious. Non veg & veg options were available. Chicken kottu was my favourite. I ate some good flavourful food after long time in Nottingham. I felt like eating at home. Appam was my favourite dessert ( I tried honey appam) Service was excellent also the atmosphere is so good. Price is worth for the delicious food. If you are looking for srilankan/ Indian food, trust me and try without any hesitation.

As an organisation, (Harmless) we annually host the National Self Harm and Suicide Prevention conference. This significant event brings together guest speakers from across the nation. The evening before the conference, we organise a special dinner for our esteemed speakers. For the second time, we chose Colombo Street as our venue, and once again, it exceeded our expectations. Not only does Colombo Street offer delectable food (and plenty of it), but it also provides excellent value for a three-course meal, complete with a drink of your choice. Despite having a large number of guests, we never felt rushed. The Colombo Street staff were exceptional—attentive and committed to ensuring a delightful dining experience. A special mention goes to Parveen, who arranged taxis for our guests staying in Nottingham hotels. This is not something that is expected and not part of the service, but Parveen was happy to help with this and it made a huge difference. In summary, Colombo Street delivers both quality and quantity. If you’re looking for a memorable dining experience, I wholeheartedly recommend it.

Most of the food was cold in the buffet. Although very nice tasting. Chips was cold and seemed to have been there a while. Overall if I was you I'd give it a miss.

Food is delicious and spicy, all the usual beers on offer. A member of staff noticed one of our party received birthday gifts, at the end of the meal we was all totally surprised by the staff presenting the B-girl with a cake and singing happy... The food area is split into two, we will be returning to try the Indian section, smelt lovely.

Had a lovely meal there today. Booked it online and had great communication regarding the booking. Our waiter was Dantha and he was a credit to the company. Helpful and informative also swift with the drinks 😉. The 2 Mains were delicious and full of flavour, in my case just the right amount of spice, I like a bit of spice. My partner had the mutton which was very different for her and she enjoyed it. Great selection of food and drinks, really enjoyed the Americano with dessert, which was also lovely. Have already recommended it to friends. 👍

All I can say if you want something different and you don't mind hot or spices no brainer .get yourself down and enjoy the beautiful taste of Asia and feel the warmth of the friendly staff

I will be honest here, I had no real understanding what this place is trying to be. We went in because the sign said it was a buffet place but when we got in the buffet section was very small with not a lot of choice so we were a bit disappointed. Apparently it is also a restaurant so I can't comment on that but as a buffet place, we'll probably give it a miss in the future.

The food was sooo good at Colombo Street!! The service exceptional. Dantha was a good host. Very friendly and made us feel like we are in Sri Lanka. Loved the food especially the fish curry. Atmosphere was also very nice. Gonna try their Sunday buffet soon!

Booked for 50 people for a dinner after a conference. Food was great, good quality and nice variety. Staff were friendly and receptive to our needs (celiac disease and gluten free requirements). Price was very reasonable for what you got, would definitely go again.

The service was great, and meals were excellent. The atmosphere was comfortable, though I would suggest the downbeat funeral slow jazz cover singing of popular music was a tad depressing. My main off-putting moment was at the end of the evening when I went to visit the "ladies" only to find there weren't any. All the loos were "unisex". Which basically means closed floor to ceiling cubicles each with their own sink. Open to male and female, which on paper this may seem "fair". In reality it meant that of the 3 cubicles there, two had not been flushed, one had left the seat up with sprinkles all over the floor, another had the seat down with sprinkles all over the seat. A very unpleasant experience. So unfortunately, I would not recommend to ladies, unless you enjoy cleaning someone's effluence off the seat before you go. Ladies, take wipes and a bottle of disinfectant if you have to go.

It was my second time going there to have food. Colombo Street is a nice place to have authentic Sri Lankan cuisine and sets a perfect backdrop for any occasion. Their starters and the main menu were super delicious. The taste and the presentation were top-notch. The cocktails and desserts were exceptional. From the beginning, Dantha was so dedicated and delivered impeccable service with genuine enthusiasm. He had impressive knowledge of the menu offering insightful recommendations. All of them were so friendly and the dining experience was nothing but perfect there.

Excellent Sri Lankan food with a distinctly Colombo taste. Try the canned raa from the beer and cider section and don't miss the kottu and hoppers. However, it is always on our plans when we are in the city. What a treat!

One Brit and one Mexican, food was tasty and spicy 👌🏽. Probamos el Kottu, de lamb y fish y ambos estuvieron muy buenos. Dantha was a really nice server, he was very pacient and explain us the food very well. We love the dessert we ordered WATALAPAN and was super tasty 🥰 is kind of like a Flan in Mexico. Super recommended. Music was calm and the atmosphere was very relaxing.

Being one half of a duo, one of whom has a seemingly endless appetite and eats everything, and myself, vegan and newly out of surgery so unable to eat much at all, we thought this restaurant would cater well for both of our appetites, and we were right! I had aubergine moju, and it was rich and smoky and sticky and so utterly delicious. My partner had rice, mutton rolls, and the fish kottu and he ate up every bit. Gorgeous place, lovely relaxed atmosphere and delicious food, not to mention super friendly staff- thank you Annabella for looking after us! Definitely return, and enthusiastically at that!

Great food, clean restraint and helpful staff, Dantha who guided my road weary self who had just arrived in Nottingham through the menu to get the most out of what I was craving. I have various food intolerances yet I felt very confident eating there, and never felt that I was an inconvenience. Food was perfect, deep and savoury and plated well.

We had the vegetarian set menu for 2 and it was brilliant. Great flavours on all the starters and mains and plenty for two. Good wine and draught lager. Service was friendly and with a smile. Thank you Lahiru who was our server.

Kottu was the highlight. The rest of the food (vegetable chop suey and prawn curry) was mercifully a small portion, because it had no real taste. Paratha is not fresh. Drinks were passable. Took a very long time to be brought out (more than 45 minutes). Would not recommend. Decor lovely. Venue very warm.

Possibly the most bizarre “selection” of “food” I’ve ever had the misfortune of being presented with. A good life lesson that cheap is rarely good. Honestly, I implore you not to waste your time. Dreadful.

Food is very good but service speed is poor. Long wait for drinks and it took 45 minutes for us to get our mains after we'd finished the starters. We had somewhere to be so had to get the bill as soon as our mains...

This is hands down the best Sri Lankan food I have had in the U.K. Being an Asian I struggle to find the authentic taste and flavours of Asian food in this country but after dining at Colombo Street, it has become one of my favourite restaurants. I live in Bristol and at times I drive all the way to Nottingham to dine in the restaurant and I tell you that long drive has been worth it every single time. The staff there is very welcoming and makes sure that you get the best service and food. The live kitchen is also one of the best features of this restaurant as you can see that your food is being handled by professionals and with utmost hygiene. I’d undoubtedly recommend it to every single person.

Super food & lovely ambience at the restaurant. We order take away too and the portions are good. Tofu sweet and sour is one our favourites! The rice and curry meal is also lovely. We had the vegetarian option.

This is the second time we’ve been here and the food was as good as we remember. We had the prawn curry and the mutton kottu and it was as close as we could physically get to Sri Lanka. We were served by Dantha and he was an absolute delight. We’re most definitely coming back soon!

Delicious and authentic food! There is a great variety of options for vegans and vegetarians and at reasonable prices. The portions are very generous and the service was second to none! The waiter, manager and chef all came out to chat to us and insisted...

Terrible buffet …such a ridiculously poor choice literally 8 dishes to choose from and 2 of those were rice! Tasteless and worryingly most stuff like melon etc left out on a table not even chilled. Glasses on table had lipstick on and drinks madly overpriced. The place looks nice but you’d be better off with a box from noodle or noodle and go half the price nicer places and far far better food. Don’t waste your money here it’s terrible.

We reserved a birthday dinner meal at Colombo Street for 6 well in advance in early Dec, when we arrived we were promptly seated, I'll list the summary of the experience to save readers valuable minutes: Service: - Ordering initially was a challenge, server was polite but clearly new/shy with his English, we found it hard to get clear answers. - I questioned multiple times if the "Parata" flatbread was accompanied by Mango Chutney and other dips, told yes and then was greeted with only a small mint yoghurt type dip (which was nice to be fair); - For drinks my mate ordered the mulled wine around 10 to 12£ only to be greeted by a massive mug with around 100ml of total mulled wine, when highlighted the portion/price to the manager this was dismissed, claiming the price was due to a special recipe, so he opted to send that back, immediately the experience tone was set. Food, 4 of us ordered 2 Feast For Two which had starters/mains for around 20£ ea: - The starters portions were good and 2/3 starters were nicely cooked, but the chicken wings soured them which were clearly fried too hot and were as dry as ever; - The show stopper was the devilled chicken main, absolutely atrocious, I mean this was clearly reheated and OLD, the chicken (despite being a curry btw) was somehow dry/hard/chewy, the texture just screamed reheated and trust me I've eaten a lot of curries in my life, without exaggeration this dish was so poor not a single one of our 6 friend group even pondered to eat it, it was simply inedible. Summary of experience: At this point, with the tone set at the drinks stage, we were close to calling it quits but the decider was the manager's attitude: - He made no effort to acknowledge our claims the food was poor, simple assuming we did not like it/offering a seperate dish; - Multiple times we offered the manager/colleagues to taste the chicken and no-one even dared, the manager had no issue serving it tho (if the complaint is the food, the least one could do is attest by the quality of the meal they serve?, I mean will they offer that terrible dish to the next customers that come in?) - Not a single shred of apologetic tone or even intention, this man did not care a single bit 6 customers just had such a poor experience they decided to leave a prescheduled birthday meal. The only positive of this evening for me is we left spent a 1/4th the price on some properly cooked chicken (oh and my mate got a full cup of mulled wine for a fiver, and it wasn't laced full of cinnamon sticks, the humanity).
