Visited Colombo Street Food yesterday for the first time.... It was delicious! The garlic chili chicken curry was so good, large portion of chicken and was served by a lovely, smiley couple at the stall. Would thoroughly recommend and a really nice atmosphere in the food hall. Overall great lunch

Had some lunch here today and had to send both dishes back. I had red beef curry and the beef was hard to chew through I couldn’t eat it. It was solid hard. My friend had chicken that came out covered in grease and like dirty takeaway food. Would not recommend at all. I am unsure how the staff decided to serve the food after looking at it today.

I visited Colombo Street Food today for brunch and was mightily impressed. I had the mutton kothtu which was a new dish to me but I'm so glad I tried it because it was delicious. Such a lovely couple running the stall; the service was friendly, welcoming and helpful and the food was cooked with love and care, it was incredibly delicious and the portion sizes were spot on. I would thoroughly recommend visiting Colombo Street Food if you are in the area and want to sample delicious and authentic Sri Lankan food.

Don't bother ordering from here. The food is really poor and the hygiene of the staff is somewhat to be desired. The lass is blowing her nose on a flannel that she keeps on the counter and isn't washing her hands between nose wipes. Had t9 take food back as its not fit for human consumption. You shouldn't nearly break your teeth on a bed bun and the chicken broke into shards. Absolutely vile.

I was SO excited to try this place, as I absolutely love Sri Lankan food, and it's difficult to come across outside of London. However, I was really disappointed with this place. I got the Chicken Kothu, and the cubed? chicken was so dry and flavourless, I couldn't eat it. The Kothu itself was okay, but tasted nothing like what I expected, with none of the authentic, distinctive Sri Lankan flavours. I think the name of the place is also quite deceptive, because much of the menu comprises cuisines which are, to my knowledge, definitely not Sri Lankan... I would not eat here again.

Service fine and atmosphere fine but food was massively underhwleming and disappointing. Asked for their recommendation and was recommended the Nasi Goreng. It was incredibly bland and had no real taste. It wasn't offensive by any means just incredibly average, couldn't even be bothered to finish it, threw it in the bin after a few fork fulls and went and bought something that actually had taste to it. Swerve this dish if you want food with actual taste.

2/5 stars is a push to be honest from me, was close to giving it a 1/5 stars. It will be first time for me and the last time. I didn't enjoy the food, it was nothing special, considering that I paid almost £13 for my meal it lacked quality and taste in my eyes. Food was edible, just not enjoyable. I'm going to be honest, my bowel had a negative effect after the food and I could tell it was going to happen when consuming the chicken. Overall, there are more cons than pros, (pros - friendly staff and variety of food options). I got the paratha wrap with chicken and fries, my wife got the vegan tofu noodles, she gave it a 3/5. I wish the business all the best in the future and hope others have a better experience.

I'm keen on food halls/markets/courts and was intrigued to find a Sri Lankan option. Perhaps my mistake was ordering nasi goreng - a dish more associated with Indonesian and Malay cuisine, but the description at the stall did claim that the dish is popular on the streets of Colombo. The dish was basically flavourless and very disappointing. Probably the worst nasi goreng I've had anywhere.

Colombo @ Sheffield Plate made a great change from the standard fastfood outlets on most main streets. The Sri Lanka Kothtu chicken and prawn had an amazing spicy taste to it Food was cooked to order and arrived hot and tasty. Situated inside the food hall alongside other street style kiosks, plenty of seating was available inside and out with a bar if you fancied a beer with your meal. Definitely coming here again, tasty food, great venue and atmosphere made this outing a very nice experience, far far better than the fast food outlets you see in every town and city across the UK. Give this review a thumbs up if you think this will be helpful for others.

MORE AT Google

This is located in one of these 'street food' 'dining halls', that are becoming so widespread these days, in what was once a branch of Costa. It's got about half a dozen different stalls with at least two of them unmanned the day I went in. There's loud music and the most popular places are a burger outlet and a bar downstairs. There weren't many people when I went in and everyone was sitting in their coats as people kept leaving the entrance door open and there was a very cold draught. I've been to Sri Lanka several times and enjoyed the food though I wouldn't claim to be an expert on it. I am, however, a keen cook and make a lot of South Asian food which I try to make as authentic as possible. I particularly like South Indian, especially Keralan, food which is very similar to the Tamil food you get in Sri Lanka. It took me a while to get sserved as the woman in the Colombo stall was doing something on the stove and kept her back to me despite attempts to attract her attention. I ordered Mutton Devil for £10. It took about 15-20 minutes waiting for it to arrive. It was very disappointing: the mutton was undercooked and tough (yet strangely rather tasteless) and the sauce much sweeter and stickier than the ones I'd had on the island itself. It was a generous portion although bulked out with onion and green pepper. It was served in a flattish cardboard container with a piece of paper in the bottom, rice on top of that and the mutton on top of that. The sauce from the mutton soaked through the paper and into the cardboard which began to fall apart. The eating implement provided was a wooden fork which was too blunt and soft to penetrate the onions and green pepper, let alone the mutton, so I ended up using it as a scoop. It's very unlikely I'll go back either to Colombo or the food hall in general.

Looking for a quick, warming lunch, I can highly recommend the Chicken Kothtu, especially as part of the lunch deal (scroll down to the bottom of the menu accessed from the table qr code). Service was quick, though being a midweek visit, the foodhall wasn't as busy as it might otherwise be. The Kothtu was filling, and very tasty. A nice change from a curry dish with rice, the chicken was full of flavour and it disappeared at a rate of knots. The foodhall in general is a great place to grab a bite, but if you're stuck on what to have, I can at least recommend Colombo for value and tastiness!

I’m getting more and more into Thai/ Malaysian/ Asian food – especially a good noodle dish with some fried chicken, a bit of spice and I especially like it when a dish topped with a fried egg. Or a decent Thai curry / a laksa with a good kick of spice goes down well too. So when we visited Syiok-Lah, they provided two of my ultimate plates of heaven; Maggie Goreng – Fried Chicken (£13.95): Stir-fried Malaysian noodles with mixed veg, egg, topped with spring onion, crispy shallots, fresh chillies, and lime to finish. Rice Dish – Beef Rendang (12.95): 6 hours slow-cooked beef in 10 combinations of herbs, spices, coconut milk and toasted coconut. Served with coconut rice and cucumbers. Garnish with coriander and fresh chillies We also shared a Chicken Satay Bao Bun (£7.50) Everything was exceptionally delicious and we cleared the plates (as you can see). The service was swift and staff really helpful and friendly. Other dishes on their menu include Roti Canai (two pieces of flaky roti bread served with a choice of Beef Rendang or Chicken Curry), Laksa, Loaded Fries, Chicken Drumsticks and more. There is only one Vegan option currently but this may change as they grow?!

I finally visited here after moving to the area a couple of years ago, and I wish I'd been before! It was one of the best meals I've had in a long time, and as good as any Indian / Bangladeshi meal I've ever had. The menu is huge with loads of specials I'd never seen before so it was pretty hard to choose. We had onion bhaji - crispy and light- naan bread - also clearly straight out of the oven. And the main chicken dish was packed with onions and peppers, and the aloo gobi, full of flavour and a perfect side dish. I got the impression the food is made from scratch, packed full of fresh ingredients and spices - not just the meat and sauce approach you sometimes get with bigger chain restaurants. The staff were really friendly, and prices very reasonable. A carafe of house wine for £8.50 and a bill of around £20 per person, you really can't complain! Can't wait to visit again to try some more of their dishes. Thanks guys!

I don’t know what possessed me to go out for lunch with two toddlers… sometimes you just need noodles… and it was lovely!
