Cole Cafe & Deli in Sunderland

Paid over £9 for bowl soup with no bread ( they looked at me like an alien when I asked for gluten free bread). Delicious but expensive. Very young staff with music blasting. Not sure would bother again

Fantastic food that's with a special menu that always seems to change with there own twist and fantastic hot and cold food. I've eaten here many times and can't fault anything, the staff are so welcoming with impeccable service. 100% recommend

Got a breakfast sandwich and coffee. About £12. It was takeaway only. I can’t fault the food or service other than I thought it was really expensive for takeaway it was still delicious.

The food is fantastic however the service is so slow I walked away on my last visit, standing in a queue for almost 30 mins for coffee and cake is a bit of a joke. I hope they can sort this out !!

Visited on a Saturday morning and had the Bodega sandwich which was delicious. However the service was very slow. From joining the queue to actually having the sandwich in hand it took 25 minutes standing outside in the cold North Sea Breeze. Yes, the food is superb but does it warrant such a long wait?

Cole’s is a great coffee shop! I really recommend their sandwiches, the Halloumi Shak is a favourite of mine. Rated 4/5 stars because service could be faster, you do need to have a lot of time when ordering here.

The coffee, the cakes, the sandwiches!! Where do you start. This place is the best coffee spot I have ever been too. The Bodega is without doubt the best bacon and egg sandwich is out of this world. Using that name does it an injustice. And the cakes! Ridiculous! Follow them on Instagram to get a sense of what is on offer. Oh and the staff are so friendly. Love this place

We usually stay I guest house on street and Coles is our go to place for at least two rounds coffee and delicious toasted sandwich or treat .we are finally back after a year of virus restrictions.unfortunatly no b&b as yet so on caravan park in Hartlepool travelled to Sunderland went on seafront to cold to sit and eat outside at seaburn so came to Coles .knew as is current take away only.only filled brioche on offer .nice had them outside didn't order coffee don't like takeaway coffee in hand and no toilets . was looking forward to visiting with friends when we bring them to our favourite b& b in may when open again .(they are selling so last visit there. choice service and quality is the experience that was Coles £20 was the price of our usual coffee as we were tempted, to stay and have another and a treat our will power was nil .it was to my horror to find Coles is not re opening as before after lockdown it is staying as a take out.it is another thing gone to the dust in roker.so sad .I appreciate they can make more money by a take away only but not an experience to be enjoyed on holiday.our friends will be disappointed as we have promised them a weekend of quality.the food was great as always for a takeout bite .last trip in may I think it will be a upmarket American chain duplicate .good for workers lunch buy not a pleasure to savour in nice surroundings the atmosphere service and food Was a pleasure to look forward to the area is losing it's best attractions good accomodation and eateries .good luck guys you will be busy and fast turn over ,but after lockdown we wanted a return to normal .we will miss travelling away for a break lost accommodation and eatery in one swoop.

Fab little place. Their coffee is outstanding and by far the best.. I’ve tried a few of their sandwiches and everyone of them is delicious.

Called in for a carry out. The coffee is seriously the most delicious I have ever had. We had the sausage rolls today, simply divine. Very tasty sausage filling with a hint of garlic and the pastry is thin and flaky. I have had the cheese scones previously and they are the best I have ever tasted. Can't recommend Coles enough. Perfect stop off as you stroll along the sea front.

I'm very particular/awkward when it comes to coffee, I'd say Coles sells one of the best. Up until a few months ago I'd never even been before, but now I love it! Their Mumbai and Bodega sandwiches are a must have, as well as their special pastrami sandwich, BEST SANDWICH EVER! You can also buy a range of Jams, chutneys and pickles too! I have the chili jam at the moment; I love it! If you're ever in Sunderland, you have to get yourselves to Cole Kitchen!

Lovely visit to Cole today.Tasty, high quality food and the best coffee. I had a brioche bun with halloumi, egg, chilli and rocket and my partner has bacon, egg and cheese brioche. Spot on 10/10. Will be back soon. 😋😋😋

My sister and I dropped in for lunch yesterday -sisters first visit, wont be her last! Like me, she absolutely loved the place! Delicious lunch, and such a warm welcome, as usual. This place is the best cafe in the area, bar none. Consistently excellent cusomer service. Though the cakes do my waistline no favours at all🤣

My brother was very impressed with the coffee and we had toasted sandwiches which were really good. The cakes also looked delicious which I will be sampling on my next visit.

Not just a coffee shop- quality treats. What do I recommend? Wonderful home made goodies; the best cheese scones, or maybe lemon and blueberry scones...or Guinness cake- rich, but not too sweet with cream cheese frosting - has to be a favourite, or a ciabatta toastie- a spicy Mumbai with green chill or yummy french onion... pastrami or cheese and ham, soup of the week the chipotle and black bean was very tasty, flapjacks- fab, chocolate brownies... so good! Go early if you want a handmade sausage roll. Need breakfast? lovely granola, fruit and yogurt or sourdough toast and organic butter. I’m told the smoothies are good- haven’t had the whole menu yet. Great selection of quality tea and the best coffee you’ll get. Yes, it’s my favourite place. Walk up the beach or cycle- then redeem your calories in style, and meet the lovely staff while you indulge or take away. No, I’m not on commission- but beware- the coffee and cake are so good you’ll have to go back!

Tucked away from all the hustle, this great little coffee shop offers the best Latte I’ve ever had and the cakes are to die for. Pop in and support a small local business.

We had a recent 4 night stay 50yds away at April guest house and this place was recommended and it’s fab!On our first visit, we had the salad/feta on sour bread and it was stunning!Second time, we had a panini and the coconut cake, as the soup had sold out. Day three, we both had the sweet potato/ coconut chilli soup and it was amazing!!!

Lovely atmosphere, staff were great - so friendly. Small but cosy and communal atmosphere for talk by a respected University scholar on coffee and sedition in the late modern period, all while sampling the cafe's lovely toasties and deserts. I had the bacon and brie toasty which was lush and the key lime pie which was even lusher.Coffee was nice. Dogs welcome. Lovely place. Will return and try other savouries and definitely the Guinness cake.

Have been here twice now and love this little cafe. Delicious coffee, tea, food and cakes. The selection is a bit more sophisticated than many other cafes, varying from home made granola through to panninis and cakes. High quality food with healthy options too. Free lemon and mint water is a nice gesture. The staff are helpful and very friendly. You can sit inside or out on a little terrace, which makes it also practical when you are walking your dog. We will be back soon ☺️

This is a wonderful little coffee shop with friendly, attentive staff serving a range of excellent coffees and teas, freshly made sandwiches, cakes, and snacks to order. The menu changes frequently so it is best to visit to find out the offerings for yourself. It's a little out of the way (St. George's Terrace)compared to the coffee shops and restaurants along Marine Walk, but a real treasure. Seek it out, you will not be disappointed.

Sat outside and enjoyed delicious coffee, homemade granola, scones and chocolate brownie. Everything was yummy. Staff were very friendly and obliging.

Went today with my son for late lunch. I had a lovely panini and my son had bruschetta and an iced coffee. Great service and good value. Will definitely return

First time here today. Staff were friendly and helpful. Some really nice touches - Decor and complementary water (mint and cucumber) - Extensive tea offering which I've not seen elsewhere too often.

Scones were delicious although choice quite small. Lovely to have water with Ice and lemon as well as hot drinks. Tea lovely as was capucinno.

Lovely place for a coffee and homemade cake. The two young ladies serving us were helpful and friendly and the scones and freshly made panini we ordered were delicious.

Myself and partner took the dog to the beach and remembered about this coffee shop, we’ve lived in the area over 10 years and never been before. What a mistake!

Myself and my friends visited cole today for the first time and to say the very least we were all totally impressed.

The barista, PW Samuel, made me the best milky coffee this side of London. 10/10, would recommend. The accent was tolerable, the chit chat was a ridiculous success. They even provided galaxy bars. Lovely.

Fantastic cafe! The food is delicious and the tea is bang on. I'd highly recommend the Barcelona Bread. The cafe is bright and very comfortable. The view down to the lighthouse can't be beaten!

I met a friend for lunch here for the first time since it was refurbished and changed hands. It was superb. Wonderful coffee and who knew sandwiches could be so good! Nice location and great service-well worth a visit!

Came with the Mrs yesterday morning as we stopped over in the Sunderland area before continuing our journey up north. We were looking for a place to have brunch near the beach, a place that’s not too loud and this is perfect. Beautiful white decor inside. The mushroom and cheese toastie was really well prepared and cooked. Overall pricing was actually very good! I was expecting to be a bit more pricey. The tea was simply beautiful! I even asked the owner what kind of tea it was and took a picture of the tin so I get one my self. He was very friendly making us laugh. Parking wise you can just park along the road there was a few spots. Free too. Just a residential area. So if you’re looking for a quiet little spot near the Sunderland beach, for a cup of tea / coffee and to have brunch this is perfect for you!

Came across this place by chance. Lovely little deli. The staff and owner were really friendly and as it’s tucked away off the sea front bits not over busy. It’s got a 5 star hygiene rating and is immaculate inside and out. They do a range of coffee teas and sandwiches plus nice cakes. Also dog friendly. Recommend

Soooo good! Fabulous coffee, which I think is addictive, as I wasn’t that much of a coffee drinker before. Fantastic homemade cakes, biscuits, cheesecake, sausage rolls, salads, quality teas, ... don’t expect fast food, it’s a great range of quality food, made fresh, with care and attention to detail. Bread from the college, independent quality coffee, a great range of teas. Gluten free brownies and cake. Buy some coffee to take home, or some White Monkey green tea, and a biscotti or two to go with it....

This local cafe is a warm and welcoming place. The food is always made fresh, the coffee is excellent and made with a passion, that if it isn't right you won't be served it and teas that are quality and made to the same high standard as the coffee. The menu can vary daily, but the sandwiches and cakes are fantastic. If you find yourself in the Roker area of Sunderland, do yourself a favour and pop in, you won't be disappointed I'm sure.

Stumbled across this gorgeous little cafe after staying on the same street for work so decided to pop in the next day - sooo glad I did. Lovely hygge atmosphere inside - very cosy. The Swiss cheese and pastrami bagel was absolutely delicious and so was the almond crunch, all washed down with a perfectly brewed latte. Would definitely recommend a visit!

This is a fabulous little cafe that's hidden away a little - I like its position just off the sea front, as it's a little more private. The food is fantastic - real homemade, nutritious fare. And I know the owner has really taken his time sourcing the best tea and coffee - as a Darjeeling drinker, this is much appreciated. I've been a few times and have loved it each time.

The consistency of the coffee served at this venue is amazing. Every cup is very very good. Took my grandchildren and my daughter for lunch and they loved the food👍👍👍 Staff always make you feel welcome.

So, what’s good? Food, staff, atmosphere, music...- cheese toasties with garlic mushrooms, bacon & brie bagels, salads, hummus a special mention of the sausage rolls and cheese scones. On the sweet side ... everything! Brownies, Victoria sponge, orange & polenta cake, scones, biscotti and cheesecake ... everything is good. Top it off with a range of quality teas, especially the green tea, and lovely coffee. Lovely staff, friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. Adam, the owner is a fountain of knowledgeable about the origins of the tea, coffee and local produce.

Had another lovely visit to Cole Cafe & Deli. Had another tremendous bagel with pastrami, gherkin, cheese & mustard. Perfect amount of ingredients. My wife had the best piece of cheesecake either of us have ever had. All washed down with a lovely cup of coffee.

A really great little cafe but ... there were three members of staff and a long(ish) wait for a simple order to arrive. The whole thing was characterised by some great things and some poor things. Breakfast tea wasn't stewed long enough and was really too delicate to be served with milk; Earl Grey was good though. The chocolate brownie was probably one of the better ones I've tasted in a while and it was a huge portion. Sadly the pastrami bagel was bland, very overpriced (£4) and needed the flavour ramped up - perhaps a stronger cheese, better quality gherkins, a mix of mustards.

This newly established Cafe delivers both on drinks, non-alcholic, freshly made food and excellent service. It is a small establishment near the sea front but very well worth a visit. My wife had the best cheese scone she has ever had (high praise) and I had a home made sausage roll (a lot of sausage not too much pastry). Toasties, salads, homemade cakes and excellent cofffee all available

After completing the GNR today it was lovely to relax in a friendly calm atmosphere. The food was amazing and the infused tea was so refreshing, make sure you check this great little find out when you are next in Sunderland.

Called in on Saturday and had a great cup of coffee together with a sausage roll with a selection of wonderful salads so different from usual lettuce and tomato they had courgette with garlic & lemon, cous cous with chargrilled broccoli, chilli and chickpeas, tomato and mozzarella with balsamic & thyme and roasted Mediterranean vegetables with paprika and oregano. So much that I had to finish Janice's off. Excellent value, friendly staff, really nice surroundings, very cosy.

Drove past this place this morning when my husband suggested we have a coffee. What a lovely place. It is small but the food they serve is imaginative and delicious. My husband had the cheesecake whilst I had a cheese scone. What a lovely surprise to get a cheese scone that tasted of cheese! Really delicious. Coffee is great too! I would recommend a visit to make up your own mind. I will be back and have a feeling I could be a regular.

Just made our first visit to this lovely little cafe, it certainly won't be our last. We ordered cappuccino and a brownie and sat outside to soak up the sun. Lovely little touches like cosy cushions and a warm throw if needed. Our cappuccinos arrived in beautiful cups along with the most delicious brownie I've eaten in a very long time. The cappuccino was so lovely we ordered another! The atmosphere was friendly and so chilled, with a great choice of vinyl records setting the atmosphere (David Bowie and Kate Bush, great choices). Will be back soon

Second visit since it changed from Faustian. Excellent in all departments - ambience, food, coffee etc. A regular place to visit from now on 😀

I was really delighted with this little cafe. The food was all homemade and delicious. I had an asparagus quiche, couscous salad, green leaves and home made hummus. Also a lovely flat white coffee. Very reasonably prices. Home made soup and cakes were also on offer - return visit is necessary! Very reasonably priced and staff very helpful and attentive. Will be back for sure.

Called into Cole cafe today, so glad we did, first thing you notice is how nice this place looks, friendly staff welcomed us and helped us with our choices (a tough decision let me tell you) we sat outside and soaked up the sun feeling chilled and relaxed. We will definitely make this a stop off next time we visit the sea front. It was an ideal for us to leave the car near by and take a walk along the sea front. (By the way. Make sure u choose the lemon cheesecake!!)

We popped in here after it being recommended by the Tiny Tweeties singers and we were very glad we did. The pastrami, mustard, Chester and Gherkin bagel was amazing and the coffee is great too. Homely feel and friendly staff too we have recommended to our friends and look forward to popping in for a coffee anytime we're in Roker.

Visited recently and had the best homemade cheese scone I have had in a long while, alongside a smashing cup of coffee. Very friendly atmosphere and stylish decor. Highly recommend this little gem of a cafe. Made a mental note that it is dog-friendly too which is also a bonus and with outside seating so the next visit may involve Rocco our Labrador when the sun decides to shine again.

We have visited Cole twice since it opened. It is the most friendly and welcoming cafe I have visited recently. Food is freshly made and beautifully presented. I recommend the Lime drizzle cake and the glorious cheese scones. The situation next to Roker sea front is lovely and the decor is stylish and atmosphere warm and relaxed. We Highly recommend this cafe.

I visited Cole Cafe and Deli with my wife and was delighted with the venue. It's bright, airy and well set out. The homemade food was delicious and coffee excellent. My wife opted for tea and was pleased it was properly brewed. It's dog friendly and a complimentary dog biscuit was provided. The staff are enthusiastic, very attentive and exceptionally friendly. We will be regular visitors from now on.
