I was here for an engagement celebration with my fiancé on Saturday 2/11. I was greeted by a young man called Aidan, who was extremely helpful and gave me great insight into the beers, highlighting his favourites and offering tasters of each. His friend Rory was our waiter who recommended the cold town dog for me, and the nae bull burger for my fiancé, as he is a vegan. 100% will be back, especially if these two are still there!

I'm from out of the country. This place...terrible service. Ordered a drink thats supposed to have black berries...server brings me the drink...with only blue berries. Took forever to get attention to pay for check so my friends and I could leave.

Nice to come in for just a drink. Food is good but service is slow. The food comes out plenty fast enough but getting to place an order takes ages. Same with paying the bill. After being handed the bill we waited 25 minutes before giving up waiting for someone to come back with the card machine.

The Cold Town House is kind of misleading from the front; I've got to say. We walked by it a few times when we were in Edinburgh and didn't think too much of it, and then visited last minute on a Friday night after a tour. They squeezed us in at a table, and we didn't expect the amazing service that we received for them being as busy as they were. The service, the awesome food, and the extremely fun cocktails are worth writing home about. Even while we were there, we wished that we had a place as cool and inventive as this near us back at home (in Canada). It was a great bar for all ages and the servers were wicked on the 2nd floor.

Great place for a spot of IPA if you like craft beer. Staff were nice, got us seated as soon as we went in, live music playing and a lovely atmosphere. Great selection of craft beers and sours if you enjoy that. It's worth a visit, grab a pint!!

Front host was pleasant enough when we arrived, but once inside at least 4 members of staff completely ignored us. It was busy, but nobody even acknowledged us at the bar for close to 10 minutes.

Great bar that I’ve been to a couple of times: the roof terrace is what makes this place! They also have a big range of beers and other drinks. I enjoyed being here a lot: well located for Grassmarket and the Old Town.

Cold food and terrible service. If you want to get ignored, no drink refills, and wait 40 minutes to pay, this is your place. Then finally once you do pay they chase you as you try to leave because they entered the payment incorrectly.

A very well located place with good value for money food, what I like about the restaurant was our waitress whose name I don't remember (but I remember she was blonde), she was super friendly and very attentive.

Went along to an Edinburgh Riding of the Marches event held upstairs in your premises, then stayed on to watch West Linton’s very on ‘Oor Graham’ (Graham McIntosh) perform downstairs.

Great little bar in the heart of the grass market. Good selection of alcohol and the quality of the food is very good-justbthe sort of food you want when having a drink. The roof terrace offers a great view if the castle and has a moderate amount of umbrellas to keep you dry throughout the Scottish summer

I’ve been to Cold Town House on several occasions and thoroughly enjoyed it every time - and even wrote reviews previously… until today. I arrived for my 18:30 table slightly early, but I was seated promptly while waiting for my friend. My friend arrived and around 15 minutes later our order was taken - two cocktails, two pizzas and a bowl of fries. 20 minutes passed - cocktails arrived, 35 minutes passed and our food had just arrived - freezing cold. I spoke to our waiter who promptly informed a manager, who came over and apologised. He offered us a round of drinks and a discount on our meal, which we were happy with as we didn’t really expect anything other than a replacement. As he was walking away, he said ‘I’ll leave you with those pizzas so you can snack’ - however who does that? It’s cold, I don’t want it! Is that a test? Anyway, our free drinks arrived and around 15 minutes later our mains arrived again - nice and hot. However, no replacement fries were given. Our bill arrived and although our second round of drinks weren’t on, everything was still in place. I was just going to pay it and let it be, but the waiter comes flying over apologising saying they were going to ‘do something for us’ - she walks away and then comes back… after removing the DISCRETIONARY service charge. Frustrated really. If you’re offering a discount and free drinks do both - if not, just promise one.

Very frustrating visit really - I’ve been many times before, written great reviews and today it just let me down. I was visiting with a friend and arrived slightly early for my table at 18:30. I was seated while waiting for said friend. We had our orders taken after he arrived - two cocktails and two pizzas, with a side of fries. 20 minutes passed before we were given our cocktails and a further 15 before food arrived - cold. I went to our waiter with a chip to show her, she took it off me and said she was sorry it had arrived like that - and she’d get the manager. He promptly arrived apologising, offered us a round of drinks and a discount on our meal, with a replacement. We agreed, however our initial food was left on the table - was this a test? Our replacement cocktails arrived shortly after and after another ten minutes our new meals arrived red hot - however without a side of fries and the original ones just sat there. Our food was good this time round. We asked for the bill, and were charged full price for our mains and fries, and our cocktails however the second round wasn’t on there. The waitress came running over and apologised as they promised ‘they’d do something for our table’ and she quickly returned again - after removing the DISCRETIONARY service charge. Why did the manager promise a discount if that was all that was to be removed? Quite wish we’d have went somewhere else, as this was a quick catch up over some food and it all just felt a bit depressing. I don’t think I’ll be back as I feel let down.

Our reservation was up on the rooftop terrace and we loved it. Great views of the castle and surrounding area. Fab service, great drinks and delicious food. We had the burger and pizza, both excellent. The weather was fine initially then the first sign of rain, the electric awnings came over to keep you protected, they also have heaters so no matter the weather you will still have an amazing experience. Definitely worth a visit.

The rooftop terrace here is beautiful and is partially covered if it does start to rain ❤️. In addition to craft beer, the restaurant offers amazing pizzas from a gorgeous and classic wood-fired oven 😋. The main floor is also gorgeous, with tall ceilings, warm, stylish decor and a lively, vibrant clientele. On our way up to the terrace, we passed a prosecco and pizza bar that looked amazing - will have to try it next time! The only reason I gave a 4/5 is because I love IPA beer and couldn't find one on the menu 🤷🏼. I highly recommend this place for good drinks, great food, and a fun time 🎉!

Great location with a view of the castle. The beer selection is great and the draft beers are displayed on the screen. Very good live music. The staff was very friendly and we didn't have to wait long, even though the restaurant was very busy. We'll definitely be back.

We came here for a drink on the outside patio in front of the building. It’s a great spot, awesome view of the castle and we were able to order drinks to our table. We decided to have dinner and it was a disappointment after the immaculate outside vibes. We ordered a Leith pizza, a gluten free Newhaven and truffle fries. We both left most of our pizzas because they were undercooked, bland and not worth eating. The fries were good though! The service was sub par, and we had to get up and find someone every time we needed a server. Overall I would say it’s a great place for a quick drink but don’t bother with dinner!

We had a big lunch here with 10 of us on a Saturday afternoon. We booked in advance and were given a good spacious area for our group on the second floor. This place is huge and the tables are nicely spaced so you don’t feel crammed in. The staff were very friendly and accommodating of our menu substitutions and the food was great. There was a good selection of food and drinks, with some nice mocktails for the non-drinkers. We had a great time and the atmosphere was lovely. The Haggis Fries were amazing - add some in the side for the table to share!

Overpriced tourist trap. Take a quick second and go to a much more reasonably priced bar, or take a trip down to Leith if interested in seeing some proper local microbreweries.

Went here today with my friends, we weren't sure how to order drinks on the roof as we were never told, pretty sure the staff forgot we were there. Our drinks took a while to come and weren't the nicest. Wasn't the worst but wasn't the best.

We visited Edinburgh and booked a table for dinner here. The atmosphere is very lively and full of excitement, they had live music while we were there! They do amazing cocktails. I had a "Cutiepie" and it was so good, like lemon meringue in a glass. We had pizza and it was pretty good, but next time I think we'll just get drinks. Staff were really lovely, our waitress was really attentive! Would reccommend. 💖🍋
