I dined at the Riverside Cafe in Radstock again on a wet day in October, this is one of my rare trips to Radstock and this is my 3rd review of this lovely but small cafe (just 17 seats). Don't be put off by the rather old fashioned wall coverings! I paid £7.50 for a breakfast plus cappuccino. There is a good selection of traditional English fare on the menu with a further 6 selections on the specials board (including salmon on the day I visited). They are also advertising a Sunday Roast. Note that the name is now 'Riverside Cafe' and not 'Coffetop' as listed on TA. Recommended.

After an early start & a morning at Frome car boot there’s nothing easier than a quick phone call to, Shane, at the ‘Riverbank Cafe’ ( once known as Coffeetop cafe ) to order a takeaway Sunday lunch. I won’t tell you anything more but eating in or taking out I know you’ll enjoy your meal.

I last reviewed this small cafe about three years ago but I visited Radstock again recently to look around the nearby museum so I decided to lunch here first. The food here is traditional English fare and there should be something for everyone. It is reasonably priced and the service is quick and polite. I paid £8.55 for sausage, egg and chips (also served with optional beans though they are not mentioned on the menu) together with a delicious large cappuccino. It is worth stating again that this cafe is small - about twelve seats at tables with a few more bench seats. There are a few outside seats available but those are not for me in February! You may well have to wait for a seat at busy times. There is no car parking outside, the nearest free car park is about 300 metres away in Waterloo Road. The regeneration of Radstock (mentioned at length in my previous post) is almost complete - the remains of the old GWR rail station have now been removed and replaced with housing and that development is nearing completion. In summary - I can totally recommend this small cafe, it is always my preferred choice of eatery on my occasional trips to Radstock.

Having visited the museum (just opposite) we (a family group of 4 matures) decided to see if we could get some lunch at this cafe, now known as Riverside. What a delight it turned out to be. The owners were friendly and patient with our hesitancy of what to order. We were all absolutely delighted with what we got. Great poached eggs, chips, etc. The coffee was excellent. Once we got talking to the owner he gave us a great deal of quality information about the area. A wonderful place to take a break. Thank you.

Now called the Riverside Cafe, this is one cute little place. Just happened upon it during a flying visit into Radstock. What do people actually do there I wonder? Having said that, Radstock does have a twee feel about it but don't go there expecting to do anything. Not unless you want a pit stop. If that's the case, you can't go wrong with this cafe. It's very small but the food was lovely. Jacket potato and a soup of the day was ordered. Very fresh and reasonably priced as were the drinks. It's a shame it doesn't have any "facilities" onsite but it is what it is. If you're looking for great fresh food and cheap as chips good tea and coffee and are passing through Radstock, please stop here - it'll be worth it.

MORE AT TripAdvisor

This cafe is situated at Number 1 Frome Road in Radstock in a rather iconic building, for reasons that I will explain later in this extended review. First a few words about Radstock itself, which I last visited about 10 years ago - and it was a dump! But in recent years a lot of redevelopment has gone on and money has clearly been spent to improve the town centre. The car park adjacent to the Victoria Hall has gone, as have the Marcroft Wagon Repair Works and the warehouses and mills next to the river - all have been replaced with attractive new housing. That disgusting pedestrian underpass off the Frome Road (under the old GWR rail lines) has been infilled and that area now features a new link road and roundabout. And the site of the old GWR station itself is currently fenced off and awaiting a further substantial residential building development. Radstock truly has been transformed! As other posters have already commented this cafe has something of an identity crisis, I visited it expecting it be called Coffee Top. But what I found was the River Bank Cafe which has a smaller menu and different opening hours. So I can only review what I found on the day - early October 2015. And this very small cafe can certainly be recommended whatever its name. There are 14 seats inside at tables with a further 6 at a 'bench' table. There are also a few seats and tables outside for use if the weather is OK. The menu includes all-day breakfasts, light lunches, sandwiches, jacket potatoes, soup, cakes and a selection of burgers. The menu is not vast but there should be something for everyone here. Some takeaway food is also available. You order at the counter from the menu on wall-boards - I chose sausage, egg and chips at £4.95 with a large cappuccino to drink (£2.30). The drink was delivered to my table quickly and the food soon followed and included a portion of peas - not stated on the board menu. I was asked if I wanted a sauce with the meal, always a bonus as I sometimes find I need to ask for this when I should not really need to. The meal was filling, delicious, politely and quickly served and good value for money. This small building is partly propped up over the river and used to be a shop and it is situated in between the two former rail lines which used to serve Radstock (GWR and SDJR) and next to the notorious adjacent level crossings which caused such traffic jams back in the day - they were removed in the 1970s. And this building is iconic because it featured in so many photographs taken of these railways and Radstock town centre, most notably in the 1950s and 1960s. I would imagine it has some kind of Listed Building status now in fact. The end of the building is completely glazed so - apart from making the interior bright - customers can look out at the dual mini roundabouts which have effectively replaced the dual level crossings (this can provide amusement when drivers unfamiliar with the area try to negotiate them). Other sights are the adjacent river, the Radstock Museum (formerly the Market Hall), the Pit Winding Wheel (from Kilmersdon Colliery I believe, the last to close in about 1973) and what I still know as 'The Waldegrave Arms'. Customers can also look out at the RadCo store just opposite which has its own cafe (moved within the store and updated since my last visit) and which offers a bigger menu but is not such good value for money as 1 Frome Road. This cafe has a 5* 'scores on the doors' rating from the FSA for hygiene. There is no customer toilet - it is just too small. There is no car parking outside but adequate free parking is available about 200 metres away (on the other side of the river) at the old SDJR station site off Waterloo Road. The opening hours are Monday to Friday 8 till 4 and Sat/Sun 8:30 till 5. Free wi-fi is also available. I was most impressed by this small cafe and wish it every success in a rejuvenated Radstock, whatever name the cafe uses! So it gets 5* from me.

Ok, so I think it's called the Riverside Cafe as well - even has a facebook page! Still, I can echo everyone else and say that the food is tasty and you get plenty for your money. I had a perfectly drinkable cappucino and a huge toasted brie and tomato sandwich with salad which was delicious. I did notice that you can "build your own breakfast" at 0.60p per item which is a great idea.I would also like to add that the staff are lovely and were very attentive and caring towards an elderly customer who wasn't feeling too good that day. Will be back.

This is a great place to visit for a meal, snack or just coffee. Since I last visited there is a new manageress who has added more variety and interest tom the food menu, which gives much more choice if you want to eat something substantial. Add to this home made scones, cakes and a variety of other home made produce make this place a winner! The quality of service and welcome remain undiminished even when Wales lose the rugby (the manageress is Welsh and an ardent rugby fan). Great place to chill for 10 mins to while away the day

This is a bijou coffee bar where you can get light snacks as well. situated just off the roundabout, the one and only roundabout, at Radstock. Roads lead to Bath and Frome. if you go over the little bump which is a river and turn right there is a free car park 50 m on your right.Service is positive and cheerful. It is worth noting that it is 25 m from the Radstock Museum. The museum has a small tea and coffee bar with one or two types of cakes and this being a dedicated place has more variety. I would not take away from the Radstock Museum cafe at all.Yesterday when I visited there was talk of extending the cafe and making a larger outside area. it is not the quietest cafe in the UK but for a sit down and a snack it is very convenient. The hours are on the website but I believe they are going to open earlier so it is worth checking. Coffeetop is open seven days a week.
