Coffee#1 Woodley in Wokingham

Lovely staff and great choice of snacks/ cakes and coffees including vegan ones. Just wish someone would deep clean the toilets as they are pretty dire. Otherwise can’t fault the place for atmosphere and hard working staff.

I have been here many times before and have had great service and have often been for tea and cake, but on the last two visits i have been disappointed to be told that the cakes on display are all frozen and unavailable to purchase. Surely they should not be defrosting on display where everyone queues up and chooses their cakes only to be told when they order one that none are available. I was very disappointed and decided to go next door to Costa Coffee instead. It’s a shame because the cakes I have eaten here in the past are delicious, but will be wary of coming here again.

Staff got rude and discriminated me for using the disabled toilet when I have a disability and also tryed to get rude on the phone when I called and asked for an apology

They no longer do their filter coffee (which was always great) so I asked for a black americano, with some cold water in the top to stop me scalding my mouth. I instantly scalded my mouth, with the hottest liquids known to man.

I was sat in there Saturday morning (25/6/22) having breakfast, one lady serving. I heard her talking to a customer whilst using swear words she was complaining about the lack of staff on at this time in the morning, saying that when the manager was on shift he had lots of staff, also that the place was a #hit hole. A gentleman a few minutes later asked was she the only one working, she said yes but there is another member of staff sat there just watching me. 8.55 I noticed a young girl put on her apron and go behind the counter and the other lady immediately walked out and said I’m off for a fag leaving the young girl with about half a dozen customers in the queue. I also noticed that there was lots of water on the floor, mainly behind the counter but wet food prints when the staff came out. I love the food & drink within the shop and have been here everytime I visit Woodley but there is no need for this lady’s rudeness.

This is a family friendly coffee shop serving fantastic coffee and sweet treats. If sweat isn’t your thing then there is a selection of sandwiches for you to choose from. The staff are friendly. Dogs are welcome in this coffee shop. There are free dog treats available and a bowl of water is just a request away.

Served my elderly mum a teapot with a crack in the spout and a dirty stained teacup! When my mum complained the lad behind the counter asked her to wait whilst he put the same teapot and tea cup in the dishwasher! No apology, left her waiting and she got coffee instead. Seating area outside full of fag butts and not swept. We are a regular to woodley and won’t be back to this coffee shop.

Always friendly staff, always quick service and always a lovely selection of cakes/bakes/biscuits. Covid rules were well adhered to, and always enjoyed the coffee

My wife and I popped inn for coffee and a snack. My wife had a latte and I had a Chai latte with soya milk. The snacks we had were a tuna melt and mozzarella & tomato panini's . Total cost was £17.70 which included a flapjack as well. Very enjoyable.

My coffee was lukewarm, asked for soya milk & Semi skimmed milk was used. The coffee didn’t taste right so brought this too there attention. I was told it was soya milk. the staff was just so rude it made me feel so uncomfortable she basically accused me of trying to get a free coffee. I continue to drink the coffee which I only drank half of it. About 15 minutes later I had the worse allergic reaction, I’v had the worse stomach for the rest of the day. It’s a was a simple request and now my hold day was ruined

I've become a regular. I love the fresh juices. Quite quickly the staff started recognizing me and foreseeing what I might order. Even better: I've noticed some elderly people who are also regulars. They are not very mobile, so the baristas go to their table to save them having to order at the bar. I really appreciate their sensitivity to mobility issues. I also love that dogs are welcome, the books and newspapers available, and last but not least, excellent free wifi!

A very busy and popular coffee shop, and I am not surprised! The coffee I had was full of flavour and did not take very long to serve.................unlike some other places. Next time I will try to stay longer for a 2nd cup

We've stopped going to Coffee #1 because the place is full of fruit flies. It's a shame as we liked the coffee and cakes and the dog friendly policy but we were sick of forever wafting flies away from our food. Fruit flies are usually the result of poor cleanliness.

I have been here with friends on several occasions and have sometimes found service a bit slow. The decor is a mix of dining chair or sofas & armchairs offering a welcoming atmosphere. However, they allow dogs inside, supposedly in a limited area but dog owners let their pets roam around even jumping on seats, a practice I find unacceptable. Dogs should be tethered outside where there are several tables for their owners use.

A friend and I popped in for coffee and cakes an found the ambience to be really good. Staff were very helpful and the coffee and cakes were of high quality. Although they are a small chain they do not have that stereotype / sterile experience.

I went into Woodley today wanting to try something different and spoke to a lovely young lady named Sam who helped me decide which coffee would be best and which cake would go well together in the end I tried a caramel latte with a chocolate crunch, when I had questions about the coffee (e.g. The house and seasonal) she certainly knew what she was talking about and just a lovely lady who serves with a smile. I will be back hopefully to see Sam and the other staff with a smile!

Lovely little place where the staff are so lovely and friendly making everyone seem as if they are a regular. Will be back very soon

Aplazado por la perspectiva de esperar a que me sirvieran en Costa, estaba pensando en salir de Woodley para tomar el café de la mañana.A pocos metros de distancia, tropecé con Coffee # 1, una cadena con la que no estoy familiarizado y me alegro de haberlo hecho.Aunque con un estilo similar (relativamente) a las tiendas de Costa, podemos visualizar mientras dormimos que el arte y el diseño de las paredes más eclécticos le dan una sensación mucho más cómoda y natural.Mi Americano se ofrecía como una mezcla estándar o un frijol guatemalteco que aparentemente tenía notas de chocolate.Complaciendo el argumento de venta, opté por este último con la expectativa de que sabría como cualquier otro café que hubiera probado. . . ¡Estaba equivocado! La bebida resultó ser uno de los mejores cafés que he tenido.El café ocupado estaba a tope y el personal muy servicial. Las mesas están espaciadas de manera apropiada para permitir suficiente comodidad y privacidad con vías lo suficientemente amplias como para permitir un movimiento fácil a través del edificio.Es una pena que las cafeterías no abran por la noche, porque se sentía más como un "café bar" para una conversación de adultos.Bien hecho para el café # 1 y es el equipo de Woodley.

Called in for coffee and sandwiches at lunch time. The place was busy with two staff on but their work ethic and ability to churn out drinks and food under pressure was impressive to say the least - plus they have time to make the customers feel welcome and to say goodbye as you leave. So many coffee shops have poor customer service these days and just churn the queue for drinks. I’d always go to this place over Costa two doors down, and even be prepared to wait just a little longer, because of the excellent service and because you’re made to feel valued as a customer.

What a lovely atmosphere for a coffee shop. All staff so friendly and great manageress who always welcome and remembers you and have not found any staff unpleasant. Always clean. Food a little pricy but would recommend

Nice drinks and delicious sweet treats. Cutlery could do with an upgrade (always look stained). Very relaxed for a catch up with friends. Friendly staff and good service.

We popped in around 2pm on a Sunday (first visit) and ordered 2 drinks and 2 'ploughmans'.

I had coffee and a mince pie with cream with a friend on a recent visit to the Woodley precinct. We thought we would shun the neighbouring chain coffee shop and were so glad that we did. The staff were very friendly and the coffee and mince pies were good. Some interesting pictures etc on the walls of local places, maps etc and comfy chairs added to the atmosphere. We'll be back.

We popped in for coffee & a light lunch and were pleasantly surprised. The coffee was amazing, better than the local rivals, and these was a great choice of hot & cold drinks for non-coffee drinkers. The food was fresh and tasty and the service was excellent, with lots of friendly chat going on behind the counter and with the customers. The two Clares run the coffee shop very well and we will definitely visit again

Not really someone who stops for coffee, but I love this place. Coffee is fresh with a great variety of pasties. Very popular and really a chilled place to stop by.

We meet here once a month on a Friday morning and always receive great service, great coffee (or pot of tea in my case) and amazing gluten free cakes!

Mid-morning we went for coffee here...on a Sunday. The cappuccino was good but the 18 minute wait was not. This coffee house is severely understaffed. The young children running around whilst people carried hot drinks was equally unimpressive. It’s the establishment’s responsibility in these matters and something should have been said. The unisex toilet was not pleasant and, from my girlfriends description of the disabled/changing facility, it would appear that was even worse. Food trodden into the floor did nothing to enhance my opinion of this facility. Shame...

A coffee house serves a nice pot of tea too - unlike Costa & some others. Some nice cakes and snacks available but rather pricey unless we have a little celebration

They’ve got just about everything right in this place EXCEPT THE COFFEE! Newspapers, books, nice decor, good music, lovely pastry and savouries but regrettably the coffee is weak and insipid. An Americano is ALWAYS a double shot. No excuses. Love all aspects except the coffee.

Small coffee house situated on the shopping mall in Woodley. Average coffee house but can recommend the Turmeric Latte!

Popped in for a spot of lunch on Sunday as we fancied something a bit different to the ubiquitous coffee and cake from the alternative option a few doors away. What a find ! We had a couple of gorgeous flatbreads, the hubby had a Turmeric Latte which was delicious and I over indulged properly in a hot Chocolate (with all the trimmings). Polished lunch off with cake (the orange cake was light and fluffy and surprisingly just the right amount of ‘sweet’.

Met a friend for coffee this Saturday morning. Had to wait a long time while to get served. It was busy but not enough staff to serve and clear tables. First seat was by the counter opposite the counter and there wasn’t enough room to sit down. Moved beside the counter where there is a partition between the washing up sink and the table.well, the noise was unbelievable as the staff seemed to be throwing the cups in the sink. Crash bang wallop all the time. We couldn’t hold a conversation over the noise. I remarked ‘do you have many breakages the way you wash up?’

I've walked past coffee #1 a few times but never been inside, but today i took the plunge.

We stopped in for a coffee, we were a large group of six and all were happy with our coffees. Now I was totally not expecting this as on a visit to UK 2 yrs ago I found it hard to find a good coffee. The staff were also very friendly and the cafe looked lovely.

Also ran by the best Manageress - Claire. She runs marathons dressed as an incredibles for charity and has s big heart . love independent shops and retail. This is not a franchise and yes you do have to wait some times because the coffee is brilliant - but pick and choose your times ie look at queue before the after Waitrise . or go to impersonal Costa for mass produced milky tat !

I’ve Only come here for the coffee, as it’s honestly the best coffee in Woodley. Head and shoulders above the likes of Costa next door. Staff are friendly and the place is clean and has lots of seating. The only gripe I have is that it takes a while to queue when it’s busy. However, I’d rather wait a bit longer and get a decent coffee.

I like the decor in this place. It's a small chain of coffee shops but doesn't feel like it. The food is at times a little to unique for my tastes. Good for healthy types. Service always good. I've visited a couple of times since opening and it's a place I chose to catch up with friends.

The café is furnished with a mix of wooden tables & chairs as well as armchairs & sofas & has a selection of books to look through on bookshelves at the rear of the premises. The choice of coffee is almost overwhelming as there are lots to chose from (caramel latte is always good) & the fruit juices are refreshing. There is a good selection of cakes to chose from as well as Panini, toasted sandwiches or quiche. The café is often busy but the service is generally pretty quick and attracts a wide range of people, young old, families & friends meeting up. It has a pleasant, relaxed atmosphere.

I love the cakes, hot chocolate, space and atmosphere in here but the waiting time to get served is terrible. Even with a few people in the queue it can take so long. I've been here a few time now and it always the same. The staff don't seem to be in a particular rush or have a system to get through people efficiently. Even with 3 people in the queue at 9.45am in a Saturday morning it took almost 10 minutes. Next time I'm going back to Costa or Brown Bag.

Lovely comfortable atmosphere. Kid friendly with spaced out seating areas, books to read and colouring. For space alone i would recommend over brown bag and costa. A really nice drink and cake selection but not too overwhelming that you can't decide. Staff seem clued up and very efficient. For

Lovely atmosphere for tea or coffee but it took as long to get served as to drink the cuppas - even with only 3 or 4 people in the queue

What a treat! A warm buttered tea cake and a pot of red berry and hibiscus tea, served in an individual tea pot with inbuilt strainer. This coffee shop has a warm atmosphere and welcomes young children with colouring and books for all to browse. This is the best coffee shop in Woodley for tea drinkers.

A lovely contemporary coffee shop serving great coffee and light snacks. Quick service and cheerful staff. There is plenty of parking near by, near the pedestrianised shopping area.

I will always give an independent trader my business over a large chain and so I chose this shop over the Costa virtually next door. The first thing you notice as you enter is the mismatched furnishings. I quite like the mix of soft and hard seating including an old church pew. I ordered two black coffees and a pulled ham ploughman's roll accompanied by some potato salad. It all came to just over a tenner. Service was polite and prompt though it wasn't that busy. I thought the food was a little pricey but very tasty and the coffee was average and quite weak. There was a good selection of smoothies and fruit drinks on offer. There was a good vibe in here. If they just up their game a little especially on the coffee front it could be a great success. I am definitely willing to give it another go.

Good choice of drinks . Nicely laid out . Clean and pleasant to sit and have coffee. Staff very friendly although some appear to be still learning so service is variable but wold recommend.

Really modern and a little quirky inside; all the furniture is mis matched which gives you a variety of seats and tables to sit at. Woodley town isn't the most glamorous of places, but this little shop is nice to escape to. Great selection of drinks, from coffees to fresh smoothies - they even do kids drinks which is a nice touch. Sadly the service was slow.. I was held up a considerable time when trying to pay. But these things happen. Considering I was stood there a while and the queue was growing, my friends smoothie did seem to take a while though. On a brighter note.. the brownie was lovely, I'd recommend! The napkins are also really cute (you'll see what I mean if you go in) Would return!

Attractive looking place inside and out, but that's as good as it gets. One Americano and one latte took an inordinate length of time to appear. My Americano arrived with no surface crema but a fair amount of surface scum. Poorly washed crockery, excessive calcium deposits or maybe they don't clean their machine properly. Who knows? Like Starbucks they put enough coffee in to colour the water and to leave some unpleasant grounds floating around.

Lovely atmosphere, nice selection of food and cakes but very slow service and amicable but simply slow staff. My coffee has residue and is only just drinkable. I really want this to be a nice place and recommended management visit and do a time and I'm motion survey to figure out how to get some energy and speed into the service.
