The staff in this coffee shop are amazing. So friendly and helpful. They know exactly what I want before I even order it. I never drink coffee anywhere else except for coffee#1 - their coffee is amazing and the same great quality in every cup

Slow service, congested seating area, only Cloud available, unhelpful staff, awkward App. Unnumbered wooden spoons for table service assistance. Why 3 1/2 sausages in a bap?? The accessory table has no sugar, you have to ask. No, not the best.

Had oat milk latte it wasn’t nice and the ham cheese toast was disgusting 🤢 wasn’t happy there today.

Friendly polite welcoming staff. Coffee was delicious and perfect temperature. Muffins and cheesecakes lovely and fresh. Will definitely be going there again ☕️ 🍰

Down hill fast. Called in for my morning coffee and cake but all was not well, not were the circumstances being taken seriously. Frozen scones on display, broken microwave, no till receipts available, hidden sugar and sweeteners behind counter. The Normally high standards were nowhere to be seen, hopefully this occasion was a one off but needed to be taken more seriously especially as the cafe was very busy. One strike.

Friendly staff who work hard. They are knowledgeble. food is fresh and tasty. good coffee beans. . Used beans given to customers to use in gardens. Good atmosphere. Clean toilet facilities.. Plenty of seating. Child friendly. Assistance dogs allowed. Regulars, and visitors. Wi fi is useful and popular. Good meeting place for locals.

We called in to Coffee #1 for lunch on 06.11.2021 whilst visitng our daughter who lives in the area and enjoyed a lovely selection of toasties and wraps and a selection of Hot Chocolate, Coffee and Tea served by an extrtemely courteous and welcoming staff This is a great coffee shop, a lovely place to relax on some comfy settees and enjoy some family time together. I'd highly recommend and would be very happy to return the next time we're in the area

Can’t believe that last review - looks like someone was going to complain whatever...... fact is space is at a premium and if you go there for hours to use the internet your tea will end up over brewed :-) Ive been going there for years, always a lovely welcome and great coffee...... It does make sense to try and keep the large family table for.....families if possible......... and if not relocate when a smaller table is available, its just polite. :-).

Me and my partner came here for some tea and to do some work. We sat on the non signed "family table" as it was the only table free. I was disturbed by a an older waitress who said that we were not allowed to sit on the table but that she would make an exception as it was for larger families and she didnt want to turn them away. We said that there were no other tables available and we wouldn't have sat there if we had known. I asked another waitress and she told me the exact same thing. It disturbed my work and left me with a sour taste (not to mention the tea was overbrewed in its plastic cup). If they had such issues they should have made it clear with some sort of signs or at least informed us beforehand.

Come here most weeks just to sit and read a book. Coffee is good and if my Daughter is with me she will drink the juices / smoothies etc and often try the cakes. Nothing to complain about. The staff are polite and friendly. Tables are cleared regularly. Nice relaxing atmosphere.

Plenty of cakes to choose from.The tea cakes are biggest ive ever seen and the coffee is by far best .Comfy chairs and a library of books to choose from at the back.staff are friendly and efficient and Personal touch where they know everyone's name.

Excellent coffee as with all Coffee#1 establishments around South Wales. Complemented by an outstanding staff who display both great energy and personality, the place really is a joy to behold. The 'Library Section' at the rear of the building is my personal fave spot. Unlike other Coffee#1's in Cardiff, they operate very much as an independent coffee house rather than as part of a large chain with its unwelcome relentless invasive Corporate consumerism. Bravo to all concerned!

I first started visiting here when I lost my dear husband and I've been coming here ever since! From the moment I arrive they help me with my scooter. I will have my seasonal latte with a cheeky warm black current crumble and cream and they assist right to the table! The manager will come and have a chat, the girls are all adorable they all make me feel welcome remember my name and food order and never fail to say take care! It's more than just coffee, it's cosy, warm and welcoming

Very friendly place, staff are lovely and can’t do enough for you, they always remember my order and have a little chat. Coffee very nice they recommended the seasonal blend to try which I much preferred! Very nice atmosphere, very busy at times but worth the wait

A lovely big cookie & cream torte with a pot of tea at a very reasonable price. Quick service, friendly staff.

Popped in for coffee, noticed a sign on the wall by our table welcoming dogs and directing customers to the dog friendly area at the back. Two ladies came in, with two dogs, one of which was barking loudly! One of the ladies actually hit the dog and tried to push them under the table. It didnt stop barking. Another couple of ladies came in, with another dog, which jumped and whined at every noise. The staff member brought the drinks over to the 2 tables with the 3 dogs and didnt ask them to move to the back. We had to gulp our drinks down and leave. Please put a large sign up regarding the dog area and train your staff to make sure the customers with dogs are aware. Thanks

coffee one is my local coffee shop where I used to pop in after school for a 90p baby choc. Never been disappointed with the quality of their drinks or food which is provided. I've recently started coming here to revise for my A-levels where the staff are very kind and considerate and always make me feel welcome here. Always try their best to accommodate individuals needs when needed and do a very good job. Highly recommend this coffee shop. number 1 in my books. very family friendly as well as dog friendly so all around a great atmosphere.

I regularly go into this coffee shop, which is the best in Penarth in my view. Perfectly situated on the town's main street, the coffee is always good and the staff are warm and friendly.

We've always liked coming here. The coffee, food and staff are great. But, it seems to of got quite grubby of late. Dirty cutlery, crockery and trays quite often. Please improve this so we continue to enjoy coming here.

Whether chilling before, mid or after shopping or just waiting for the bus, this is the perfect place to chill sand relax whether with a toasted teacake or something more indulgent with your coiffee, tea or cold drink.

Coffee is ok , good place to chill, but always so dirty in it's appearance , dirty cups ,plates just left on the tables,knapkins littering the floor . Clean up more and it would be so much more appealing

I'd never heard of this chain before but I'll be a regular from now on! The selection of drinks and cakes is varied and with different flavours to the usual offerings. I had a hot apple and cinnamon drink which was really nice. The staff were very friendly and the tables clean and comfortable. Reasonable prices too.

The Yuletide decorations are appropriate, and the seasonal music is kept in moderation. The Pontcanna site, for example, more resembles Santa's Grotto, and hearing Christmas songs in mid-November for this particular consumer is nothing more than unwelcome relentless invasive Corporate consumerism. Thankfully, the Penarth site avoids such pitfalls and offers a delightful environment for a spot of afternoon typing. Bravo to all concerned!

Popular meeting place,central to Penarth town shops. Expect a wait in this popular establishment. Nice coffee with snacks,not good enough for a filling meal. Loyalty cards are available. Seating near the window is good if you are fortunate to get a seat/chair.

Popped in here on a freezing cold day for a cuppa with my toddler and had a lovely time. Nice tea, delicious cakes and some colouring in bits and pieces for my daughter. Great!

I visit Coffee1 regularly, they stay open until 7pm which means you have somewhere to go after most of the shops shut. (Dogs not allowed inside but if the weather is suitable, there are tables outside where your dog is welcome).

I went to coffee one Penarth today with my teenage daughter. I thought I would treat her to her favourite drink (pumpkin latte) and a slice of cake, to spend some much needed quality time with her.

Our favourite coffee stop. Excellent venue for people watching, feeling part of the community & generally having a chill out. Definitely an important part of Penarth. Great tasting coffee or own style smoothies & lush eats.

Took 25 minutes to make 2 coffees, no saucers, tables stacked with dirty cups , awful. Gave up on food. Staff seemed like they were just dragged off the street and handed an apron. No idea what to do

Been there with a colleague from work, the place had a nice atmosphere, the coffee was lovely but it was noisy inside and my almond cake didn't taste very good.

I've been visiting Coffee#1 since it opened. Always been impressed and enjoyed every visit. Very surprised to find out that it's part of a chain as standards were so high. The staff have been outstanding and still are. However, in the past few months I've felt it has sadly gone down hill. They regularly run out of our favourite snacks and deserts. The salads, although still edible look like they should have been thrown away a day or two before. The worst thing I feel is the cleanliness of the one and only toilet. Each time I've visited over the last few weeks conditions in there have been appalling. There are no separate disabled facilities or male and female toilets, just one. I have watched people waiting 10-15 minutes and had to wait a long time myself. This is not a one off problem as I see it a few times a week. I'm taking the time to write this as I'd love my favourite coffee shop to return to how it was. Otherwise we shall be looking for an alternative. I must stress that the staff are genuinely extremely helpful and friendly, seem hard working and make us feel very welcome

Busy, lively, good staff, good coffee and extremely good atmosphere. Always a pleasure to visit and taste their delicious cakes. Comfortable décor especially if you get a super leather chair! And you can sit as long as you like.

Visit this Coffee Shop a few times a week and love it. They have a huge choice of drinks and the Christmas limited edition drinks are definitely worth trying. They can cater for everyone - with a soya milk alternative if you ask for it. I usually take drinks out but the coffee shop itself is always warm and spacious. The staff are polite and work quickly so you never have to wait for long. Definitely my favourite coffee shop in Penarth.

The good reputation is well deserved. Very busy but still a pleasant environment. Good coffee and excellent range of cakes, sandwiches and snacks. Much better than the usual high street coffee shops. Recommended.

This was our second Coffee#1 visit In two days. My wife had the frappe . Previously the cream came out a cream machine. This time it came out a coop canisters... The person serving had a few issues which required resolving...Still nice to eat and drink. Happy to drink there again ::-) bit please please get back to where u used to be . See Newport review.

Great selection of teas & coffees available, but also a good selection of juices for those looking for something different. Can get a bit crowded and noisy as some patrons let their children run around the wooden floored areas from back to front , but the staff do their best to keep this under control .

My husband and I popped in for a light breakfast on Sunday morning. The staff are welcoming, the coffee is delish and they have a great selection of porridge and pastries if you don't fancy anything large. We read the papers and had a lazy breakfast it was lovely.

Penarth is bad at the best of times for wifi but you would think that coffee shops would add wifi to attract customers. Coffee good but quite warm in shop and little air circulation.

I don't go much for coffee so had tea and toasted teacakes - the teacakes were enormous and came with a plentiful supply of butter and a choice of jam or marmalade. As you could choose your loose tea I enjoyed this very much. My husband had a latte and tea cake and passed no comment to the taste so I assume it was fine! There is always a queue in here but the pastries etc always look nice. I have Danish pastry before which was nice. Depends if you can get a seat at the front or outside as to the ambience. The seats at the back are a little weird but the leather armchairs at the front were lovely. I love the noise it adds to the character. The staff were fine with us and delivered all we asked for.

In the past I've walked into this place and walked straight out as the heat is overwhelming. However, today I persevered, but won't bother again. Miserable staff, it's not obvious whether or not you help yourself to the paninis/sandwiches in the glass case. I had a roasted veg one which was very average and expensive. Nice freshly made apple juice, but I won't be back.

Great coffee (try the slightly pretentious 'drip' - it's actually rather good!) and lovely home-made-looking-and-tasting cakes make this a very pleasant and civilised oasis.

Nice coffee but you really need to sort some wifi out! Haven't come across many coffee shops nowadays that don't offer wifi for customers to use whilst relaxing with a coffee and cake. Also heard somebody else ask if there was wifi available whilst I was sat there. It must be a pretty frequent enquiry. Had to go to costa across the road in the end! Come on coffee #1 move with the times!

I ordered a caramel frappe and paid the best part of £3.50 for a small and as served 2/3 of a glass of something that tasted like baby formula. The drink tasted of powdered milk and not a lot else. No caramel flavour whatsoever and not even a full glass. Despite me ordering a cold drink, the cafe was freezing and everyone in my party had to put cardigans on just to try and take the chill off. Not impressed

Really friendly guy running the place, nothing too much trouble, he even advised me on where I good buy the baby chilli peppers in the salad at the green grocers around the corner and came to check if I had found them!Not like the usual chain experience at all, well done

Standard cafe, always busy. Clean and well appointed. Top tip, don't sit neat the coffee machine, it's very noisy.

Well as you all know (at the last count there were 52,000 of you); I like my coffee and I like Coffee #1. But alas our experience of the Penarth outlet leaves an awful lot to be desired. For the first time ever, and I've drank a lot of coffee in many Coffee #1's there was no pattern on my cappuccino. Not even when I politely requested one. They weren't busy, maybe there's a reason for that, and in the past in various Coffee #1's I've had a Swan (Newport Road Cardiff), an astonishing flower (Terrace Road, Aberystwyth) and various swirly patterns, leaves, coffee beans, and even a bear in between. But nowt, silly, nuthin, in Penarth. And it came across more about not being bothered than lack of ability. Now if it was a moan about patterns that would be one thing, but we also want to point out that the toilet floor was wet, there was no toilet paper, and no hand towels. Oops, just glad we're not due another visit anytime soon

What a fab coffee shop! My partner and I have been regular customers at coffee #1 for several years and it's about time I wrote a review!Firstly the staff, they really are lovely, nothing is too much trouble and they're always polite and friendly. Steph and Dave in particular are great. We have witnessed the staff going out of their way to help people, time and time again. The venue itself is always clean and tidy and if you happen to sit at a table that hasn't been cleared, the staff are always willing to come and fix that for you asap. It's deceivingly big, quite dark and cosy at the front but brighter and more open at the back.The toilet is always well maintained although there can sometimes me a queue. Food and drinks are always of a high standard and if it isn't quite how you like it give them a shout and they will fix it straight away. Fab service everytime!

The acual cafe is quite small and busy, but they do have a wide range of cakes, biscuits, lunches, hot and cold drinks to offer. They have free wifi and is great for the whole family not just adults.

Much better than Starbucks and the other big chains, would still always choose a independent place. Staff are always helpful whenever i have popped in for a quick coffee

I popped in after having my hair trimmed around lunch time. The place was full but service was quick. I managed to find a seat in the window as with these long thin old buildings they can be ever so slightly dark in places.I always love coffee #1 for the way their food is laid out and the look of their cakes and pastries. It was a pleasant interior with plenty of seating. Ideal location on the high street.I had a cheeky quick flat white and it is a very small drink compared to others which can sting on the value. Must remover when I come again to go for the more substantial latte if I want something milky.

I really enjoy chilling here with a coffee, cake and a good book on the weekend but it's often too busy! There's always a good selection of cakes and the service is swift and efficient. However, by mid morning on a Saturday or Sunday it's nigh on impossible to grab a table here - which is a positive sign of its popularity rather than a negative point really, well from the owner's point of view anyway. I just wished the place was bigger so I didn't end up going elsewhere most of the time or perhaps I should get up earlier to bag a table!

I visit here weekly and every time I am pleased with the service that I receive. The staff here are extremely polite and always happy. Even thought it's a small coffee shop they are still extremely good. If you are planning on going here to check your email or use the internet you may struggle as there in now wifi.

Excellent at Coffee#1, the service is always cheerful and helpful. Quality of the drinks are consistent and we're always tempted to have a light bite to eat. My only issue is the acoustics in the room which makes it very noisy - you often can't hear the person that you're with because of the background noise. Doubt if anything can be done ;-)

Penarth Coffee 1 along with the others we have visited are different to a lot of the big chain of Coffee Houses. They are mainly in South Wales and Southern Counties but to us (A matter of taste of course!) the best cappuccino to be had in the UK., and we do visit many different establishments regular. The cakes and pastries are of good standard especially the Buritos Cheesecake,which at £2.60 offers good value for its quality and size. A good relaxed atmosphere prevails with friendly staff. It's a pity that this chain doesn't expand to other areas of the UK as they would certainly give the major players a run for their money.!

We called in for a cuppa with our grand daughter. We ordered 2 pots of tea which was very nice to have large tea pots and cups. Our grand daughter sat and crayoned with the free papers to use. Its a little more expensive than your average tea shop but you do get more tea.There was no tea spoons only sticks to stir your tea that's the only niggle.

Loved this place, best coffee in town . Great venue, lovely staff And good value considering the quality of the food. Would highly recommend.

Visited this branch of coffee 1 , many many times. Very welcoming with great coffee ( as expected) . Extremely busy at peak times. which shows how good it is. Lovely location if you can sit by the window :)... Next to bus stop so very convenient for commuters and those who don't have transport to get there. One of my favourite coffee shops in Penarth, always visit and never disappointed ! 4 stars not 5 but only because I find it hard getting a seat near the front. Keep it up coffee #1 .

Enough said really! They really do make the best coffee in Cardiff. The foods not to bad either (even if a little pricey) - quick, fast, hot - what more do you want ? :P no complaints from me, i drink here every week!

I recently had a lovely cup of cappuccino in this establishment. Again great service with a smile. Why they can do whereas others struggle. I just don't why! A great range of cakes and savouries. The only wish is that they should invest in wi - fi. But I am sure they have sound business reasons in not having it.
