Coffee Room at Skintrade in Isle of Wight

Such a hidden gem in Newport I almost don't want to reveal it to keep it as my own little secret!! A seemingly small clothes shop that's triple the size you expect with an entire cafe upstairs! Food is of excellent quality for cheap cost with friendly staff and a really cosy atmosphere - will definitely be returning!

Some of the nicest people I’ve ever met and the owner was a lovely bloke who clearly loves his job. Spent a LOT of money here and will happily spend more 👍

Shhh don’t tell everyone but this place is fabulous! We sat jn a gorgeous little nook overlooking Saint Thomas Square in Newport for lunch. This place does wonderful coffee and simple lunch items like baked potatoes, toasties, and omelettes. It’s a real hidden secret and a little gem tucked away above a clothing shop.

I never knew about this small hidden gem above a lovely shop in Newport. Went for lunch with my friend and was very impressed. Food was great. Staff were friendly and efficient. Will definately return. The place was clean. Great atmosphere and design. Please note: Not easily accessible if you have serious mobility issues.

Unexpected find. Small coffee shop tucked away, up a spiral staircase, above a shoe/clothes shop. Lovely Red Thai soup and Naan served by friendly staff in very pleasant surroundings

Fabulous customer service. Amazing food and cakes. Excellent coffee. Friendliest welcome we have had on the island. Visited twice as it was so good. It does deserve a score of 5 but on our second visit I noticed a hygiene faux pas. The lady taking the orders, taking payments and making coffee was also putting the side salads on the plates. Unfortunately there was no evidence of her washing her hands to do this. Surprised that she did not use tongs or blue food gloves. Hence we did not eat the side salad. Hope if they read this review it will be taken in the right spirit as everything else was perfect.

Fabulous little find while on holiday. Clean and welcoming. Great cake selection and lunch options. The thing that would also make us return is the amazing friendly attitude of the staff. If only all coffee shops offered this level of customer service. Easily recommended.

Great service, interesting good food with lots of vegan/ veggie options, and some gluten free too! Nice for sitting outside. The shop itself is tempting if you want groovy stuff

Interesting little coffee shop situated above the downstairs Skin Trade shop. Very pleasant surroundings and friendly welcome. Good choice from the menus with a selection of tasty fillings to accompany a toasted sandwich, jacket potato or an omelette. Good coffee to go with it. Will be on the visit again list.

Staff very friendly and helpful. Pleasant atmosphere. Wide selection of food. Nice and relaxing place to meet up with friends for a catch up. Would definitely recommend it.

A good selection of cakes and excellent coffee. I had to wait a long time to be served here for lunch recently, however, the 'italiano' toastie when it came was very good. Although basic the menu should please most people for lunch and the place excels for a quick coffee and cake bake.

By chance, looking on trip advisor we came across this lovely little place and thought we would give it a try. We would never have found it otherwise as the access is up stairs through a clothing shop. Great place with nice toasties, omelettes and salads. The cakes aren’t bad either. So much so, we returned the following lunchtime.

Me and my family love Skintrade. The owners are friendly and it’s such a cosy little cafe upstairs above the shop. Its got real character. There’s always such a good variety of cakes available and they’re always so fresh. For vegans it’s a brilliant place to have lunch or a cake as the staff are very accommodating to this. Me and mum mum shared a vegan roasted veg and hummus panini which came with salad and it was delicious! Really recommend. Support local!

Go there regularly and next to the island bakers my ‘go to’ coffee place in Newport- try the monthly specials (chicken tikka toasty in May - 9/10), the fish finger sandwich if you want to feel young again and the cake island roasted coffee and service with a smile available at all times - don’t take yer granny as the stairs are steep (ask in the shop if you get lost)

What a find. Beautiful little cafe with great choice of freshly made food. I'm allergic to dairy and they couldn't have been more helpful and so many choices.

This is a great place for coffee or lunch. The choices are good, staff friendly and in a quiet location. It fills up quickly!

Popped in for coffee...ended up with cake too! Great range of vegan and GF delights and the option of skinny rather than ordinary latte. Chilled atmosphere, loved the decor. Definitely returning! Just the place to wrap around a hot chocolate on a cold winter morning 😍

Don't be put off, it's a bit difficult to find above the clothes shop, but well worth the effort. Lovely coffee, nice staff and lovely atmosphere.

What a find! Wonderful little coffee house! Fabulous selection of drinks and cakes. Other light bites available too. You can sit and look out onto the square and the church and back inside a lovely fireplace and stylish decor welcomes you! Can't wait to go back. Well done guys!

Beautiful coffee and cheese scones to die for on previous visits but, had lunch in there today and i didn't know they would microwave the quiche, so consequently it turned the pastry rubbery which ruined what would've been excellent if they hadn't . Sorry to be a bit negative guys but other than that it was good.

Took a little finding, through the shop, round the corner, round and up the stairs and then .. worth the perseverance. Good strong espresso; a double served in two separate cups. Complete with warm milk and a biscuit. Ambient music, light and airy with views over the pedestrian parade. Will definately be back.

This little cafe is above skin trade shop in newport and is a great find. Delicious cakes and lunches of all descriptions. Excellent paninis and my husband had lovely homemade vegetable soup. Lots of dairy free, gluten free and vegan choices too. My nutella brownie was really delicious!

Had really nice soya latte today. Would be better with Bonsay soya milk but I don't think anyone on the island does it. Lovely little place and the staff are friendly.

We stopped here while him I g around the isle of Wight..we were welcomed with a smile even though we had big back packs ..the coffee and tea was hot n tasty ..the cafe was warm and clean and the staff very cheerful and helpful ..thanks very much

I've only been once so far, but it was certainly very nice. You have to walk up the winding staircase to the cafe and it is small but perfectly cosy and pleasing. I had a most excellent latte and cake. I would recommend this nice little cafe for a visit if you are in the area as their coffee is the best I've tasted in the vicinity.

Popped in for a lunch with my husband, he opted for a Jacket potato that came well cooked, with loads of filling and a salad and I had a oh so lovely cheese scone, well recommend these!! the Coffee and hot chocolate that we picked as drinks were really good too.

Discovered this cafe in the Christmas eve and except from playing great Baroque music it has a great flat whites and offers a really nice food and cakes selection! Especially the cheese scone was unbelievable 😍 On top of that it's a really quiet place to study or work with laptops!

Had a chilli jacket, it was lovely but served in tin foil on a slate. Every time i cut the potato i ended up eating tin foil. Can you serve on a plate please.

A great find for coffee, tucked away upstairs so difficult to imagine what it will be like. I suggest you hang one of your blackboards in the window to advertise your wares as we walked past a couple of times before deciding to investigate. The coffee was just as we liked it and the piece of Rocky Road plenty big enough to serve two. Well done, everything was perfect. May your business flourish

I was really excited to try the coffee here because it is roasted locally and the cakes were supposedly freshly baked. I ordered a flat white and unfortunately discovered that the taste of coffee was very weak and was similar to the taste of an automatic machine coffee - seriously how can people rate this coffee well?!? It was very expensive too at 2.50 pounds for the coffee! The carrot cake I ordered wasn't very fresh and the icing was far too sweet.

A wonderful find for our stay in Newport. Delicious and good value toasties, omelettes, sandwiches etc. plus great baked treats for afterwards! Would definitely recommend!

I love this little cafe. It's upstairs above the shop. It's got a lovely cosy feel to it and great character with original features. Clean surroundings - great place for a coffee catch-up with cake!

We were taken by friends who knew about this super cafe above a fashion shop. Lovely ambience, friendly staff and terrific menu. And excellent coffee! Highly recommended.

Friendly lovely cool and quaint cafe all in one. Best cup of coffee on the island and the cases are to die for! All fresh baked with gluten free, vegetarian and began cakes. Sarah is a master baker. There is outside seating but I always edit upstairs and enjoy my coffee and cake while people watching

looked to find this "Coffee shop" after reading reviews, & was very pleased we did. We had a lovely coffee, exactly as we asked for it & a complimentary biscuit. Unfortunately we had eaten a large breakfast before our trip to Newport so didn't indulge in the very appealing array of cakes etc, & the smell of fresh from the oven cheese scones & quiche was amazing, if we are lucky enough to return, we will definitely forgo breakfast & enjoy a treat in this lovely little Coffee shop!

We come here every Monday morning which speaks for itself. Locally roasted Island coffee beans, amazing homemade cakes and lunches. Great service always with a smile. Avoid mainstream coffee shops and support the local trade. Go to skintrade!!

Great little coffee shop all home made cakes

Tucked away above their clothes shop, this is a great find and another local business....always a bonus!! We had their great cheese scones and carrot cake......all very yummy. The hot chocolate was great as well, generous sized cups of coffee too and great prices!! They have a good menu and a vast selection of cakes...you'll leave feeling spoilt for choice!

A fantastic secret, hidden in plain sight. Consistently great coffee and interesting (and lovely ) food. The cake selection is brilliant, and it caters for vegans and gluten free. Probably our favourite café on the island.

Cutest and smallest coffee shop in Newport. Retro decor. Coffee is good, but Sarah's cakes are unbelievable. So many varieties, including vegan and GF options! Choc & peanut butter vegan cake is absolutely incredible. Sarah clearly puts a lot of effort into them! Nice one Skintrade!

I recently heard about this little gem and called in today. As soon as I entered the shop I was given a warm welcome by the lady serving and shown to the cafe upstairs.

Me and my other half quite often visit the coffee room at skintrade. There are only a few tables, so a lovely place to go if you like peace and quiet. The hot chocolates are to die for and I just have no words to describe the warm cheese scones. Definitely worth a visit.

INCREDIBLE..in the shop then up some beautifully quaint stairs to a character filled tea room which is clean and bright.

This is a great little place. it is difficult to miss unless you know it is there. It is accessed through Skin Trade clothes shop. I am glad that a lot of people have found it because of word of mouth, but hopefully I will still find a chair when I want to pop in as it is getting very popular and deservedly so. The food is light, fresh and delightful. The cheese scones almost melt in the mouth. The service is very friendly and helpful and the prices are very reasonable. As there are reasonably steep windy stairs it is probably not the place for someone with mobility issues,

A great little tea room away from the hussle! Beautiful cakes and friendly staff, a must visit!! Very small so ideal for couples or small groups. Uneven small staircase so not great if you are unsteady on your feet

It is worth navigating the spiral staircase. The staff are friendly and helpful and the lunch was excellent. Proper home cooked tasty food to suit all tastes, lots to choose from and the home made cakes look delicious.

It's well worth finding the hidden winding stair case in the depths of Skin trade. A lovely range of tempting home made cakes and quality island-roasted coffee in this stylish little room looking out across at the stained glass window in the church opposite.

Really tasty, barista style (yet no pretentious latte art) coffee; a good selection of delicious home-made cakes; and a simplistic, decent lunchtime menu - what more could you ask for?

Had lunch here with my daughter, we both loved it. A great selection of home made cakes, sandwiches/toasties and quirky drinks.....

This is a really quaint, rustic place for a great sandwich. There was only 5 choices of sandwich but they all sounded really tasty. Very reasonably priced and the millionaire shortcake was to die for! The place is very small so getting a table might be a bit of a lottery during lunch but well worth trying.

Great little independent coffee shop. Lovely food too. Cosy and beautifully decorated first floor room plus outside seating if the sun is shining. One of the best coffee stops in Newport - but it is very hidden away. Which means it is a hidden secret. Shhh, dont tell anyone else!!
