Been a few times even last week. The usual cheer male staff member barely spoke and just mumbled the bare minimum. Told him I had an egg allergy then be served a breakfast which was obviously cooked in same pan as eggs. Lucky we noticed the egg white all over bacon and black pudding. NOT ACCEPTABLE. Staff needs up to date allergy training. Allergies can kill.

Having visited for many years, the service has been ok but when we visited recently, we felt very unwelcome and an inconvenience to the moody looking staff who were clearly more interested in hoovering around everyone at 3.30 than serving. We were told takeaway service only even though it doesn't close til 4. Being in a customer service job myself they would do well to remember that the customer pays their wages. Won't bother inconveniencing them next time.

When we arrived they were queuing out the door and our initial thought was to go somewhere else but we’d heard good reviews and people told us the line was moving quickly so we decided to stay. I’m glad we did. You are not allowed to take a table until you have ordered food hence the large number of people queuing. There is not a lot of room inside where you order hence the people outside. We probably had to wait about 10 minutes but it was worth it, the food was delicious, freshly made and locally sourced.

Breakfast was tasty but spoiled by not getting our breakfasts at the same time. It was also served on freezing cold plates. Hot food on cold plates is poor, especially when the cafe itself was so cold we could see our breath! ( But it had only just opened and eventually felt warmer).

Very disappointed, ordered a sweet chilli chicken sandwich and it came with an inch of chicken bone within it. Informed staff and they were dismissive, bordering on rude, certainly no apology. Got the impression they were only after your money. Better off walking the extra distance to Poppy's. Would not go back. Basic food at over inflated prices, with poor service.

Unfortunately our quick visit today to the Coffee Bothy was not an enjoyable. My “mocha” was cold and not strong, my partners “mocha” was volcano hot, to the point that the milk was burnt. She took two sips and it was poured down the drain. It seemed that the young server was not properly trained to a high enough standard, her attitude was also unfriendly, unwelcoming and rude. The toilet was also in an unsatisfactory condition, with a dirty floor. We will be back in future and hope this was a one off as the shop was extremely busy. The other server was polite and the cafe itself seemed bustling with life.

After recently being involved in a RTC we had a 1.5hr wait for our recovery vehicle. The police in attendance mentioned this place was open as many were shut on the 27th. We had a small dog and although the don’t take dogs made an exception and made us feel really warm and welcome. There was a great selection of fresh hot and cold food to suit both mine and my picky girlfriends tastes. They even offered the meal on the house, which we really appreciated. But as a small business we wanted to pay for the hospitality they showed us. Would recommend this place for a good bite to eat and a drink. Thanks again to all the kind staff.

On our way to Wick we decided to head a different route and we came across the Coffee Bothy and as we opted out having breakfast at the Hotel we were ready for breakfast. We decided to sit outside, sunny and warm, I stepped inside and I ordered two breakfasts, to my surprise I was asked if Mushrooms was wanted or beans, now, usually Mushrooms is a given and the choice usually would be beans or tomatoes, however, we opted for Mushrooms. We sat outside and realised it was hot so we moved to the other table that was slightly sheltered. Ordered a pot of tea and a coffee, the price for breakfast was £9.50 excluding Tea, so with drinks, came just short of £20, in my mind I was thinking why could we not have mushrooms and beans or tomatoes, £9,50 each is not a cheap brekky. 1 egg, 2 x sausages, 2 x rashers of bacon, 1 x piece of Black pudding and few mushrooms chopped to death to make look a lot more 1 x hash brown, and yes 1 slice of toast was included, that was the best part of the breakfast. The sausages were cheap and nasty, full of rusk, I dare say 2% meat at a guess, bacon cut thinly, the black pudding and hash brown full of grease, the fried egg was ok. We asked for salt and pepper, got salt only, asked for mustard, they don’t have mustard, at all, ketch up was the only option. After finishing my breakfast, yes it filled a whole, id did what was required, but I paid for it all day, it laid heavy in my stomach, I felt uncomfortable all day and that’s the reason why we didn’t go out for a evening meal that evening many hours later, still laid heavy in our stomach. When we came across the Coffee Brothy we saw Poppys on the main road, we should of tried that place instead. Needless to say, we won’t go there again, overpriced and poor cheap products used. The lass who served us was polite, the service was ok, this would have been a brilliant review, but the food was poor. Sam B.

Just wanted a take out drink but as soon as we went in we were asked to wait outside, fair enough, it’s only a small place, however to then be ignored for the next 5 minutes even when a staff member walked past us was just rude. Just an acknowledgment to say be with you in a minute would have been nice. We gave up waiting and had much better service (& probably better coffee) from the Costa machine in the Co-op round the corner

Coffee Bothy severed home cooked, fresh, and delicious food. We had tasty sausage rolls and a full English between the two of us. The food was clearly made fresh, so we didn't mind waiting (though the wait was short in my opinion). We enjoyed our breakfast so much, we came back later in the day to get cakes! When we arrived back for the cakes, there was a huge surge in the amount of people inside. The other customers seemed very confused (one couple couldn't decide where they wanted to sit, one family couldn't control their kids, one woman was being very loud but I think she was under the influence of something) so getting a couple slices of cake to go took longer than it should have, but that was due to the customers not having a clue what they were doing, not the staff. The staff were friendly and helpful. Sometimes some customers mess things up for the rest of us.

I have been a regular visitor to the Coffee Bothy on my trips back to Orkney from Aberdeen for the past few years. They do an absolutely fantastic breakfast, and the coffee is also excellent. This isn't a run of the mill breakfast either, you can tell that the ingredients are top quality, from the thick bacon to the deep yellow yolked eggs. The café itself is in a fairly unassuming building just off the main road, but don't let that put you off. With parking adjacent, it is very convenient, and in the summer months it can be very pleasant to sit outside.

Doesn't look much from outside but go inside for great selection of soups, snacks, lunches and home baking. The African soup was particularly flavoursome and filling. Attentive, helpful staff and very good value

We have been travelling from Aberdeen up north for more than 20 years and have found a great stop in the way up north - the coffee is hit and tasty and my husbands cooked breakfast was huge , freshly cooked and really good. I bought some cakes to take to Orkney as dairy free gluten free I can recommend the raspberry chocolate slice (vegan) absolutely delicious.

We always stop for lunch at the Coffee Bothy when on holidays in the highlands. Lovely selection of hot and cold food and amazing selection of delicious home made cakes. Staff always friendly. Very small Cafe and you might have to wait for a table but definitely worth a visit.

Stopped for a coffee and a breakfast roll on the way through Golspie. Very good coffee, tea and food. Their homemade cake selection looked fantastic but it was a bit early for cake (if there is such a thing) so we didn't try. If you want a combination that isn't on the menu the friendly staff will cater for it. Lovely service. Would recommend.

Stopped off here for a quick bite at lunch time and the place was jumping. Outside not much to look at but inside was a different matter. Plenty of staff who couldn't do enough to make your visit worthwhile . I had the all day breakfast and it was superb. Everyone with me had something different from the menu and it was all excellent. Definitely come back to this place.

My wife and I called in today for a coffee and a cake. We both had the Beetroot & Poppy Seed Cake. Delicious, lovely and fresh, moist and tasty. 2 coffees, 2 cakes all for less than £10 great value. They also offer an extensive range of hot food. I did notice that a number of tables had 'Reserved' signs. Probably a good idea if planning to visit during the busy lunch period as there's not a lot of inside seating. Free WiFi. Highly Recommended.

Used to come here a few times a year and it was lovely. Owned I think by an older person and had their family helping them out. Food was always good. Great views and lots of lovely gifts to buy. Came back to find the cafe and shop has new operators (the owners still own the place). The food choice was much less and I’m afraid I didn’t like the cake - too heard. The coffee however was excellent. Most of the gifts have gone too. I’m afraid it’s just lost something in the change. Work to do to bring back the sparkle.

We went for takeaway before getting ferry to Stornoway. Ordered an egg roll and bacon and egg roll. On opening when we got to our car we could not believe how poor they looked. Toasted stake rolls, overdone fried eggs and overdone bacon. Will not go back to this cafe again!

The traditional Scottish breakfast was served in a large portion—definitely filling for me. I loved the sausages. It was my first time trying haggis, and it was fine; definitely worth a try.
