Go here if you like howling, smelly dogs on a wet day? Dogs being fed expensive human food at the table, slobbering over the chairs too? We’ve seen this before here and “complained” about it to the staff and they still do nothing. Sadly, this coffee hour today, was horrendous and yet the dog owners think it’s ok? They think they’re “entitled” and that everyone loves their dogs? They don’t. You’ve finally lost our custom for the future.

As usual, the staff were lovely, as was the coffee. Unfortunately though, the shop is in desperate need of a fly zapper! As every time I’ve visited lately there have been so many flies! I really enjoy going to the shop, but lately all the flies have made me think twice, which is such a shame.

Coffee is ok, the choice of food available has gone down hill recently. Toilets are grim! Customer toilet was out of order with sign telling customers to use the staff toilet which was filthy. 🤢

I was debating to write this but its bothered me alot, I feel sorry for the staff that work here as alot of customers put them through a lot over the most ridiculous situations even when they try to help they still are very rude to them. Over all I enjoy coming here just some people need to lay off over the most petty stuff, they are people not robots!

Extremely rude and unprofessional staff! I went out for lunch with my mum to have an enjoyable catch up and left feeling fed up. Not only were we waiting in line for ages, my food never turned up! My mum went up to kindly ask if it had been forgotten and was given no eye contact! Then had a rude girl behind the counter (she had brown hair and an European accent) snap and shout ‘what??’ as if we were the issue. She then walked off for a chit chat with her coworker and FINALLY put the food in the toaster after another 10 minutes. Then came and literally chucked the plate on the table with so much attitude. Staff really needs to be looked into as we left feeling really down as it had ruined our day out a bit... Will not be returning.

Apparently dogs are allowed to sit on the chairs and be fed at the table in this establishment. When I questioned this practice with the manager she said she would speak to the customers with their dogs as this wasn’t their normal practice. Instead, she told them “someone” had complained instead of dealing with it by asking for the dogs to be removed to the floor. The dogs remained in situ. This resulted in me being targeted and shouted at across the cafe by one of the people with the dogs who then followed me down to the counter to have yet another go at me. If you are happy for dogs to slobber over tables and sit on the chairs, this will be the cafe for you. Personally, I found it totally unhygienic and the manager’s method of handling, very disappointing. We left before I had finished my coffee.

I'd landed up in Fareham early in the morning on my way to Portchester. Been wandering here and there for a little while when I've spotted Coffee#1 shop. I knew it from my visit to Dorchester, where I've met this name for the first time, that coffee that I was going to have this very morning will be very good. And I was right. I wouldn't dare to call myself coffee connoisseur or gourmet, but I think, that I can recognize a good cuppa of coffee. What's count for me most is its aroma and strength, and Coffee#1 is serving this type of coffee I like most. Strong and aromatic. Personally, I think, that Coffee#1 is the best cafe chain in England when comes down to the quality of product served there. In my personal ranking I would place coffee served there at the third place, after Moroccan and Vietnamese one. Staff working there was kind, I also liked interior's design. Simple, yet pleasant for an eye. I would say that this place, has nice English atmosphere. Calm, with slightly subdued colors. Prices also were affordable. It was like I would have found a little slice of heaven.

Avoid unless you like the odd rude staff member, she got the drinks Wrong and was fuming, really? Try cleaning the tables between customers or sweeping the floors instead of giving dirty looks and banging plates! Won’t be going there again it’s really gone down hill. It used to be my favourite coffee shop u til they changed some of the staff. The men who serve are lovely.

Visit 14th Feb 2023 at 13:00 to 13:30. 8 tables needed clearing and nowt done in the half hour we were there. Add a slow process with long queue a d then when the drinks were delivered to our table it was done with a reluctant response to our thanks. I used to visit more regularly but gave up because of the slow service. Gave it another try today but as explained not good. Wetherspoon cost half as much and it is always clean and staff are cheerful. Also customers don't have to clean the tables.

Shocking, won’t be going back. We walked in and the coffee shop was not busy at all . We were stood at the counter waiting to order and the female staff member glanced at us and after a few moments said “SORRY, JUST GOT A JUST EAT ORDER” and ignored us, we asked how long we’d be waiting and she said “FIVE MINUTES….NOT SURE MAYBE MORE”. She seemed totally disinterested so we left, a real shame as we used to use this place frequently.

Sorry, but there is absolutely NO system in operation behind the counter at all! Came in the other day and had to walk out because the three people behind the counter were LITERALLY sloth like in the speed of doing anything! Instead of having one person taking orders and passing down the line they will literally take 5+ minutes just to serve ONE customer! Just been in again and with hardly anyone in, it took nearly 15mins to get a coffee! There was one and half people in front of me (the half was because they were already half way through being served). Coffee is lovely but you SERIOUSLY need to get your act together!!

Visited twice this week and we’ve been here several times before, over the Covid Plague era. It’s probably the best coffee in town and it’s lovely to sit inside OR out with a good food menu on offer, just watching the world go by. However, the two visits this week, have both been wrecked by large dogs arriving after we’d sat down and taking up huge space and changing the complete ambience of the whole inside sitting area, to the point where we had to get up and move. On Saturday, the dog was literally allowed to roam on an “extending lead,” right across the queuing line to the order point. Yesterday, the dog was allowed to slobber on tables and was being fed AT the table. Let me stress, we do NOT have problems with dogs. We have owned and still walk our daughters dog. But we would never take them into the confined space of a busy cafe bar and would certainly not feed them food off a human beings menu? You advertise that dogs are “welcome in outside areas” and we had always assumed that they should not be allowed in the inside seating area? So just what IS your policy and has it changed since lockdown? We will not be sitting in with you again any time soon if we can’t be guaranteed a dog free visit?

Really love coffee#1 in Fareham! The coffees are amazing, really friendly and smiley great quality service. Pet friendly is a huge plus. Really vibing the decor of the cafe! Would 100% recommend grabbing a chai latte on your visit, sitting at the back up the stairs where its slightly quieter and can overlook the cafe - plus see all the pet dogs that come in! Best coffee shop on Fareham high street!

It’s a sign of the times that you look around to see how much space there is between the tables before you sit down in a cafe now but that’s the times we live in. Plenty of space in Coffee#1 Fareham so all good. Clean too with friendly staff. Drinks were nice and hot - white hot choc and a pot of tea. Clearly a popular spot as a decent flow of customers whilst we were there.

I used to live in Brighton and loved a coffee in the quirky cafes, people watching and thinking (I'm not some cool hipster though). I would be with my Girlfriend. We loved a quiet coffee. Though she'd stare at her phone all the time. But then we broke up (amicably... although mostly her choice) and I had to move back in with my parents in Fareham. I'll admit I'm devastasted and just trying to process what went wrong. I miss her, omg I miss her so much. I still love her. She now wants to 'consciously uncouple' (that gwyneth paltrow thing), she bought 2 copies of the book and posted me one!!! But I need more time first, more coffee at coffee#1 to figure out if I can handle being friendzoned from a long term relationship. In the end, I had nothing left apart from my job working remotely. My life in Fareham is so different its insane, though I am very grateful for the support I have had. When I think of my previous life in Brighton with my ex it's like a figment of my imagination. She kept everything. I was too damn kind to let her keep the house (rented, we weren't rich). Though she had no where else to go I suppose and I was lucky to have somewhere else.Coffee#1 has been a real gift. It's quirky and has a new york style vibe. It helps me feel like I'm in Brighton a little bit. And I can just sit and think and write in my journal on how much I still love my ex and don't understand why we split. It's chilled enough but busy enough to be nicely vibrant and be able to process something deep within. It's hurts real bad sometimes but Coffee#1 Fareham soothes that pain.Coffee#1's coffees are great and the staff are ace. They are very welcoming and friendly. I visit this place so much now I think they recognise me which always makes one feel good. The cakes are great. The savoury food is good. Maybe they could have more choice with the vegan food. But all in all its a fantastic place. Even on your own, which I am. I'm alone.

Called today for a coffee and a sit down after a long walk with my dog. Ordered a decaffeinated coffee. This had to be the most awful coffee I have been presented with in a long time. It was so strong and the lack of milk (probably using the awful semi skimmed which cafes seem to think we all prefer - WE DONT!) made it undrinkable. Please stake steps to improve your coffee and I will come back. Giving yourself the name Coffee#11 is a bit of a misrepresentation when no your coffee is not No 1.

Standard modern coffeeshop chain. Nice selection of cakes, fairly regular change in menu. Coffee is nothing to write home about; an acceptable selection of non-dairy milks that work well with hot drinks. As with any chain, it's the staff that make it unique. Fareham staff are friendly and happy to help. Good with regulars, still attentive to "irregulars" - the coming and going of the town centre keeps a good flow of customers. The nice tattooed lady told me to write a review.

We like the ambience of this coffee shop .. we prefer to go here instead of Costa Nero etc but my god are they slowwww ! The last three times we have been there has been only one person serving and making coffees and the queue is a nightmare ... actually that’s not true as usually 5/6 people leave while I’m waiting so that generally keeps it to around 6/7 people .. the last time we went ( Friday 14th February) I waited 20 minutes to be served ... I politely said to the girl serving that she should tell the owners and get more people on the counter .. she said someone had phoned in sick that day but I said this was not a one off ... it’s often like this .. ! Actually when I pitched up one person was serving and making the drinks and heating the food while the other emptied dishwashers and chatted to an off duty member of staff then the server went off duty himself and she came on the till ... the weird thing is I paid for an extra hours parking as I thought we might go to Coffee #1 so I’ll need more time ... I should have walked out but I thought surely they can’t be this slow but nope you have the record ! If this is typical of all your branches then I worry for you ... the place has a nice atmosphere and is very large but I’ll bet it’s never full as you don’t have the capacity to fill it ! Sorry to bang on but honestly it’s a disaster and as an ex businessman I hate to see disastrous operations ... anyway hope this helps but please do something !

I often visit here as I like the ambience and coffee. But I was sorely let down on my recent visit. Huge queue, food came out before I got to collect drinks so my food was cold. Then the hot chocolate had to be returned as it hadn’t been made correctly, Luke warm and not mixed. When we got the replacement it was still not up to standard for a ‘deluxe’ drink. The tables are not cleared either. Employ more staff and train them to make all drinks correctly please manager!

The prices are very competitive I feel and the food/drinks are of excellent quality so felt really special and worth it. I had a cookies n cream slice which was ever so large and tasty and a chocolate salted pretzel frappe which was more like a milkshake but was so delicious I was not annoyed at this! We have enjoyed popping in over the past year or so and have generally been impressed but with a new manager at the helm, the difference is noticeable, particularly the warm welcome. Second while staff are working hard and making money for company unfortunately there is nobody to clean and remove Dirty cups and trays and if they employ one young person with minimum wages that person could go nonstop to clean tables otherwise they going to drive their customers away and won’t attract new ones .

We happened upon Coffee #1 in Fareham by chance. The coffee was great and the staff extremely knowledgeable and friendly. The premises are not the most easily accessed by disabled customers and the tables are either too low or table legs are not wide enough to accommodate a wheelchair. The counter is so high that someone in a wheelchair could not either see or converse with a member of staff serving behind it. When the coffee shop is less busy the staff are really helpful and very supportive of disabled customers. When they are busy a disabled person would not manage without an able bodied carer.

I am shattered to say the least but had a break today and was greeted by a smiley young lady behind the counter who didn't push me to make a quick decision and made polite conversation whilst popping my bill through for cappuccino and carrot and walnut cake. She then offered to bring it all over for me. Super kind and doing her job to a fab standard. I now feel abit more awake after a really lovely coffee and cake. Thanks again, made a difference to how my day was going!

They've got it right here, coffee, food, atmosphere. Loved the seating and the casual appearance, nothing more to say!

We arranged to meet a friend on Fareham and he suggested his favourite coffee house, Coffee #1. I'd been past it many times but was never tempted to go in. I was pleasantly surprised and now it is also my favourite. It's a large cafe with plenty of space, with some soft seats and sofas. The decor is good and the menu extensive. I had a cheese and ham croissant which was very good. The cakes looked lovely and I will definitely be trying one on my next visit.

Still a good place to visit, coffees great staff are friendly, Only things that seems to be a negative here is staff walking around with people's hot food not knowing where people are sitting and shouting out to find table numbers, not very professional, numbering the tables is better than wooden spoons, which always reminds me of cheap pup grub.Service is sometimes very slow.Food looks good and reasonable prices .One of the best places for atmosphere and space to move.

Staff are excellent, always friendly and efficient. Always make a great cup of coffee. I visit regularly late afternoon, either in a small group or by myself and I've never had anything close to a bad experience.

Just had to write a review of this coffee shop and goes with my experience of Coffee 1 in general. The first time I went to one of these coffee shops was in Southsea where the service was pretty poor but not very bad; however it was the state of the cafe in Southsea that was pretty shocking. Nowhere to sit because all the tables had not been cleared. However, the first time me and my wife went into Fareham, we queued about 10 minutes to be served and there was only 2 people in front of us! We decided to give it one more chance and the service was fine. We then went again last week and there was no queue and 2 staff behind the counter doing various jobs. We waited over 2 minutes whilst the staff obviously saw us and totally ignored us! I was shocked. When the gentleman acknowledged us; we walked out in disgust! I thought it was some sort of joke at first! No wonder this place is always empty. I would avoid this place at all costs and go over the road to Cafe Nero, where there is actually more choice, despite being a smaller cafe.

Visited for lunch today with my family. Didn't mind waiting ages in the queue, but in all that time they didn't clear our table - we had to do our own. First they missed out one of our drinks. Then a grumpy waiter slammed 3 meals down on the table and said "I don't know who's having what" and fled just as I was saying that he'd missed one of our meals. So we had to go back again for that. My ham & cheese croissant was burnt and cold. We sent it back, which they weren't happy about and they just heated up the same one. My kids were getting embarrassed by then so I ate it.I'll be voting with my feet and not going again.

We have visited several of the Coffee #1 outlets, and when we were in Fareham today we called into this branch which is well situated in the centre of the Main Street close to the covered shopping centre. This is the largest branch we have visited to date, but even though it was fairly busy, service was not slow and the staff were welcoming and efficient. There is a selection of different seating choices and because of the roomy interior, space between tables. The coffee was very good and given that we call into the Town from time to time, we will certainly visit again.

A disappointment. We didn't bother sticking around for the cakes, appealing though they looked. Despite being an otherwise quiet and relatively off-loaded time of the afternoon, there was a lot of crashing and banging around from behind the counter to a point of conversation stopping; not in any pique; but just routine and noisy normality which, I suppose, some might find alluring.Pretty much nil service by design, but even allowing for that, such as there was, was detached and disengagedThis is all a bit of a pity, really, as there is plenty of competition within yards, and so it was quite hard to find a reason why we might choose this place over one of the others.Plenty of good potential, but some way to go to realise it.

Popped in whilst doing a bit of shopping in Fareham. Have visited many times before but never reviewed, Had my usual of Brown Doorstep Toast and Jam (yummy). Ither options available too, ie Marmite ( yuk) but each to their own. Friendly but busy staff and in a nicely decorated venue. Coffee is always tasty and usually have seasonal options or specials on. Cakes are always nice and tadty too..

We visited coffee #1 with our niece and the environment was not great .Very slow service and not much in the way of smiles from the staff. Clientele became rude and offensive about our 2 year old niece who was being well behaved but particularly loud. Rude looks from the staff and the customers . Coffee was great but unless you are over 79 I wouldn't recommend this place

Was so very disappointed, after everything we had heard we were expecting great things. On arrival we were ignored and not acknowledged for 10 minutes. The venue is very attractive and well laid out, there is generally a positive ambience except the initial welcome. The food did not live up to expectations, all was bland and although we all had different dishes they all tasted the same, no chillies or spice in the meals . The place is quite pricey and sadly it was definitely not worth the money. Real shame

Lovely food here. Went today been going for years. For some reason the entrance we always go in had a barrier in the way. Had it not been for a customer interrupting his lunch and telling us the entrance was further down. We would have left and probably never returned. A lesson learned hopefully.

Slightly off the beaten track but well worth the detour, you need a car really to get there but good free parking onsite. The restaurant was fairly quiet for a Friday night so we got a nice table in a window alcove. The meal is varied and our food was very good. I would recommend

Myself and my partner popped to The Golden Lion and we hear the food is meant to be good. We ordered a Croque monsieur and a Croque Madame. Our food was served to us by the lovely Yvonne, and on first look it was very presentable and looked amazing. We both were very impressed with the presentation of our food and on first taste we both said "that's amazing". Steve came to check to see if everything was ok and we told him that it was incredible. I would highly recommend this pub for food, the staff are very friendly and the chef is incredible and a credit to the pub. Thank you Jamie, Steve and Yvonne for making our experience at The Golden Lion a Fab one. We look forward to many more.
