As always the food is excellent and the staff are friendly. Definitely our favourite chippy, portion sizes are great and the food is top quality. We won't go anywhere else and it isn't the nearest chippy to us but worth the journey

Mushy peas like soup. Large fish had lots of very crunchy hard batter and looked bigger than the fish inside. Cash only.!

Generally a great service but things have started to slide. My concern being that this is becoming the norm, the crust of the pizza was inedible and the chicken kebab contained a lot of grissle. Not ideal.

I have waited until our second delivery within two weeks before making my decision, this place is excellent for delivered Pizza.

Ordered the sausage special, menu said it was £4.95. I was charged £5 , I let it go as it was only 5p. When I got back to work they hadn’t put my sausage in. So I basically paid £5 for chips & gravy. Couldn’t go back as was at work.

This is very much my local fish bar and, as luck would have it, my favourite too. It's not just a fish and chip shop - it also does pizza, burgers, kebabs, and various other bits and pieces. I have pretty much always been more than satisfied by what ai have had here, and I have been a lot! I have sampled pretty much most things from here over the past couple of years - from battered sausage and chips, 16" pizzas, chicken meat and chips with logs of garlic sauce the list goes on. The portion sizes are big. People might describe them as "generous", but I hate that expression. If they were generous they would be both big and free. These cost money. Speaking of money - this, quite rightly, is a cash only establishment. None of your up itself Apple Pay here. Should you have no cash on you, there is a cash machine about 20 yards from the front door. To summarise - Codnor doesn't have many places to eat, but I am very glad that one of the few places it does have is Codnor Fish Bar.

2nd time I felt uncomfortable when asked about what sauce I wanted on my kebab. I like to have lemon juice on first as it makes the meat juicier however today when I asked I was made to feel uncomfortable and I'd go as far to say as the guy was rude and offended about it. Does it matter? I'm a customer so what is the issue. Just won't go jn again. If you like you kebab made a certain way be ready for the attitude!

Cash only? Sounds like tax evasion to me… absolutely disgusting. People work hard for their money and pay their tax and you think you can’t? Vile, disgusting people that should be ashamed of themselves.

Purchased a fritter and two fish bites , fives minutes away but cold when I got home. Like concrete no fish in bites because of re cooking , fritter was like a big crisp . Worst meal I’ve ever had from a chippy

Drove here after a failed online collection order elsewhere. Prompt service, generous portions and reasonably priced! Be aware cash only for collections which is not well advertised!

Had a kebab delivered chips was lovely the Donna kebab was awful hard bits in it like grit would never order from here again

Carry on to macdonalds, better value, stopped to get a kids meal.. small chips and sausage £4.50! Not sure if they thought I was feeding borrowers. Poor!

Kebab was Luke warm took two mouth fulls didn’t taste right . Had poorly stomach 4hours later . No card machine as usual in these places .

All too often they will sell you chips that are cold hard tasting stale. Just got the compensatory chips as they did the same thing last week. They reheated old dry stale chips gave them even though specifically requested fresh just fried chips. I'm tired of them treating people as though they are dogs eating scraps. The chips arrive hot as though just fried but within seconds you can see them wilting drying up edges hard dry inedible. As they salvage their waste. If you don't have fresh chips admit it. Used to have 4 fish and chips weekly from them stopped getting the fish for simular reason. Now looking for another local chippy altogether.

Good prices and great food. Have had fish and chips from here twice in the last month. The fish was cooked whilst I waited, takes a little longer but worth it in the end. Would recommend this plaice.......sorry for the pun!

We decided to have a quick break from our journey and called in to the Codnor Fish Bar for some chips to share and a battered sausage. It was great. The place was very clean. The chips were straight out of the frier, hot and of excellent quality. The battered sausage was as good as you get anywhere. The service was friendly and quick. All in all a very nice experience. If we had had something more substantive, I may have been able to give it a higher rating.

Friendly staff, open all day (a lot of chip shops close halfway through the day!) and good selection. Pizzas aren’t THE BEST pizzas you’ve ever had but they’re mega cheap and fast. Great deals on them. Recommended!

We’ve had several meals from Codnor Fish Bar and each one has been delicious! We’ve had several different items of the menu and all of it is fresh and hot! We’ve had one delivery and that came very quick and was hot! Would definitely recommend!

Used to rave about this place but the ignorance and rudeness from the staff has stopped us going here. Simply asking for a pot of peas not to go in a box causes them to become very unpleasant. Not worth the bother!

Just spent over £30 on takeaway and the fish was as hard as rock chicken greasy really not good value the guys in the shop are great but food is not.

Great staff great food and overall my go to for fish and chips.

Ordered online went to collect they'd not even seen my order. So we waited. Got food home and my naan bread was green and rock solid. It could not be eaten. I felt sick after seeing all the green over it (no salad to blame) and threw it all in the bin. What a waste. Won't be going back anytime soon. Disappointed, it was lovely a year ago...

If you want bad customer service, food that takes over two hours to arrive (if it ever does) and no refund when your food doesn’t arrive then this is the place for you, how they stay in business is beyond me. If you could kindly refund us for the food we never received at Casson street, we’ve requested a refund through just eat and nothing has happened?

Best fish and chips I've had in years, definitely not my last visit

Hello I’m Steve from 111 pentrich road Absolutely dreadful takeaway from you tonight . I’ve been ordering from you for years but tonight was awful. You charged me £2 delivery on a £20 order !! It was shocking you have lost a loyal customer. Absolutely rubbish!!!!

Can't really fault this place, does what it says on the sign, food is always spot on and always served quickly despite it always being busy. Plenty of staff, always busy but always happy to have a laugh

Chips tasted old and fish had as much grease inside it as the deep fat Fryer it came out of.

Just ordered over £25 worth of food which consisted of a meaty calzone, a garlic bread supreme and wholetail scampi and chips. To my dissapointment and for saying i spent over £25 i would have to say the food seemed really poor, bland and lack of as there was no chips with the scampi, no pot of mayo with calzone and the garlic bread well was their any garlic in it?? Cant say id be ordering from there again

Dry bread, even though asked for extra butter, undercooked chips, this place used to be a favourite but since new management took over its seriously hit rock bottom in quality, will definitely be giving them a wide birth from now on.

Food was nice but the website is quite confusing. The order I placed was for collection and pay on collection. I then get an email asking me to pay. Very very confusing had to ring in the end.

Always great food and never had a problem from here, order is right, on time etc. I usually have the Tandoori Chicken Kebab and it’s great, with chips and curry sauce. Delicious! 😋

I am only giving 1 star because order was ready on time, but apart from that food was awful, had the Mediterranean chicken wraps the chicken did not taste or look like chicken wraps was very soggy and the salad came with 1 slice cucumber and leaf of lettuce, definitely will not be ordering again from here

Never had a bad meal there ever.

The food here is terrible and the hygiene is worse. No social distancing, workers coughing in the back and nobody sanitising after touching money. My food was uncooked and chips were pale and starchy. I wont be going back anytime soon.

Staff are rude. The young lady delivery driver was lovely on time and very polite. Unlike the food chips wear under cooked peas tasted like they where days old. Fish was dry. Kebab was flavourless and why the red cabbage. Over priced will never use again

Chips ok. However people going in aren't following covid-19 guide lines. I.E. no more than two in the shop. My wife was left waiting longer as two youths barged into the shop!!

The staff were dirty, ill mannered and inattentive. The food (takeaway kebab) was served in just a few seconds so clearly wasn't cooked fresh. The naan bread was soggy beyond belief, more like congealed wallpaper paste. I could taste the cumin in the coating which may be a minor positive. Only went because we were passing and had been recommended, as we now suspect by persons with no taste or advanced Covid infection. Please, do yourself a favour and go to Tesco next door and buy a sandwich.

Onion rings were freshly made but now frozen from morrisons as i bought some the other day from morrisons big bag 75p. Yes they are ok but when you had proper homemade ones it was better. Assume trying to make more money but it was a shame when food arrived

They offered me the wrong pizza to take home, but since no one like that the wrong food there was no point. They took the half that was right, put it on top of the oven. Which kept the bottom warm, mean by the time I got home it was cold and disgusting. Would not recommend this place.

Have had two take away fish chips meals in past two weeks. Delivered on time. Hot and beautifully cooked . I'm on lockdown still and I'm very grateful to be able to get such nice food on time it's been a treat.thank you.

Our local is Kilburn Fish Bar but they don’t deliver and we’d give them 10/10 but we tried Codnor tonight and this something else!!!

Horrible as usual. Thought I’d try this place again as a few years have passed since I had to throw away my last takeaway from there. As usual all the food was cold and disgusting. This place should be closed down. revolting

Had kebab and chips tonite after not going out or having takeaway since the lockdown V v dissapointing - chips wooley and very beige looking -kebab meat was dry although not greasy And all topped with pickled red cabbage ugh!! Not a repeat trip planned

This is some where we use on a weekly basis, the chips are always fantastic and the Kebab meat is to die for... also when ever We have had fish this has always been fantastic. Order online via there new app always get quick delivery, the staff in the shop are always friendly and orders are always fulfilled quickly.

Having been a regular customer of Codnor Fish Bar I am disappointed but feel compelled to write this review. (I may add I will no longer be a customer) Having had a particularly hard day (not that this was their issue) Family visiting other family members in hospital, rushing around with work, school runs, pick ups, drop offs, family commitments, busy life etc we decided to order using the App as no one had the energy to cook after the day we’d had. I have used this many times before and been satisfied with food and service. Order placed at 7.20 pm in the same way as always Payed by card. No food arrived by almost 9pm. Contacted the shop by phone to be told ‘ we don’t deliver to your area’??? Very odd as I have ordered and had delivery several times. When I questioned this I was told we don’t deliver there when we get too busy, The app should have sent you a message? So you choose if not to accept my order depending on how busy you are? And don’t even tell me that my order is not being processed even when I have family sitting waiting for 90 mins for food. No apology, The only explanation was that they would contact the Webb people to tell them I didn’t get an alert?!?!?! Incredibly poor service from an establishment that I had once considered one of my favourites. I will be deleting my App and not use this establishment again.

Takeaway of peas and fritters.As soon as I unwrapped my potato fritters the stink of stale fish was overwhelming. The batter looked dried up and was a struggle to cut not that I could possibly have eaten due to the stench. I imagine they had been kept warm for a long time or re-heated.

I've been using this chip shop for 2 yrs,always good, I had a delivery of pie and chips the other night and there was a kids portion inside,I was shocked,gravy was like water 😰

Ordered for delivery they confirmed the order then canceled delivery 40 minutes in without any explanation. Complete waste of time a really poor service !

Always get plenty for your money

Anyone that knows me, knows I'm really critical about Kebabs. I have to say, it was one of the best in a long time. Meat was just right, fresh salad and not greasy. Oh, and friendly staff. Spot on, and thank you.

We had the codnor fish special, the orders was completely wrong, we got one with a large unbattered sausage one with a small battered sausage, and the batter on the fish was chewy like it had been sat there for a good few hours. I've never been to a chippy that was this dissorganised it was chaos, for them to get 2 specials wrong there is something not right. And like I said before the batter on the fish was horrible me and the other half have been all over the country trying fish and chips from different areas and this is by far the worst.

Highly recommended, food is always on time and hot! Delivery service was great, we have never had a bad experience with them.

Being as we thought we would try somewhere new to eat we tried Codnor fish bar! It was absolute sham balls. The first and last time we order from there. The large meals don’t even cover the bottoms of the trays, think a large meal at McDonald’s is bigger tbf. You would expect more from a chippery. The burger tasted so off and disgusting that it wasn’t even attempted to be eaten. Waited one hour for the delivery and the food was appalling. Chips was still hard and very white. (Wasn’t even cooked) Hardly any batter on the sausage and wasn’t even batter it was soft and squidgy, not fried batter at all. Please don’t disappoint yourselves like I did. The place needs closing down.

So I tried codnor fish bar today didn’t have very high hopes as I’ve heard a lot of bad reviews on this place however I’m actually amazed at the veggie burgers chips were a bit soggy but still tasted brill. Will be coming back to try the veggie calzone next.

Was really nice for ages but the last time we went the chips we're only half cooked and we couldnt eat them. What a shame

It's usually really nice, but tonight I got my usual chicken shish and there was an egg smell. I thought it was something else in my surroundings but as I ate it the smell got stronger. I've also burped and it was really eggy! Terrified I'm going to be sick now.

Love their chicken tandoori wrap! They'll also do special requests like adding extra cheese or sauces.

I visited whilst having work done on my car at a nearby garage. The chips were white, under cooked and soggy. I'd put this down to a one off experience, but look at the number of poor reviews against this place folks.....people are voting in numbers.

Fantastic fish and chip shop!!!. My family plus 2 other families have been staying at golden valley for the past 4 years and somehow came across this chippy . Was impressed the first time with the excellent value for money . On this visit I had quite a big order, even with them being extremely busy all the staff were lovely and friendly and helped me carry my order to my car . Well reccommended!

Had a veggie calzone and the portion size is perfect for two. Came with chips and coleslaw what a bargain! Will be ordering again arrived without 30 min of order as well

Came in today and requested salad and chips in a naan and wow the presentation of my food speaks for it self it was delicious

Been going here some years now and it’s at its best place . On my last visit I told the owner just how good it is now . I mentioned I do reviews on trip advisor he asked if I’d done one on his place I have . If it’s dirty it is if unfriendly I’ll say. . I was in voted behind the counter to inspect the filters kitchen the whole business it’s spotless . Hands washed by all the great staff and owner . This is a great value take away fish , chips Kebab and pizza . Thumbs up from me and thank you for the tour .

I used the just eat app to place our order... food arrived just after time stated... food not very warm and I’m confused why do they give you options to write a note to them regarding special requirements... I asked for my naan bread to be wrapped separately because I don’t like it wet and soggy... opened it up when it arrived NAAN BREAD WRAPED AROUND MY MEAT !!! Pay attention to special requests ... did not enjoy it at all.. hardly any effort to adhere to my request !!!! . jacket potato with beans.. may as well just served dry beans ... not impressed !!!!!

This Chippy is first class to me, the staff always have time for me when I order on line for delivery to my home in Ripley. They soon deliver too. Always delivered by pleasant people also. I always find the portions too much, but I’m not complaining about it. Keep up the good work. My hubby loves the fish and chips and side. I love donor meat with chips and salad and sauces. Two very happy customers as far as home delivery is concerned . Keep up the good work everyone, mmm I’m just wondering about tea tonight??? It’s got my taste buds going now !!! Lol.

Here most weekends the owner and staff are great the food is excellent never had any problems here clean always wash there hands and a warm welcome . Best for miles .

Absolutely disgusting, they should be ashamed to call there self's a takeaway, the foods not fit for rats. The order was wrong ,no point in complaining cause you wouldn't want to put yourself through it. Must of changed hands or something because it was always decent food. Feel robbed, never again.

Food is good but the service is shocking. Ordered through the app and was told the order was on its way, that was an hour and half ago, still no food has arrived. The food eventually arrive 3 and half hours after ordering
