Cod on the Rocks in County Durham

Not great at all. Ordered online (which wasn't cheap) and they got the order wrong. Fish was not very fresh and the batter was soggy. Even asking for salt and vinegar on the chips seemed too much to ask.

My issue is that if you ask me to drop a pin where to deliver I expect it delivered there, I could have ordered cheaper on another app

Cod bites not fresh, have had bad tummy, steering clear of this chippy from now on. This place used to be nice,not now though.

Order went to wrong address. Had to ring up to enquire as order was late.

Visited a few times now whilst staying in the area. Great food, freshly cooked to order with a huge choice from traditional fish and chips to pizza and kebabs. Tried most things and everything had been excellent. Lovely friendly staff, clean premises and good value for money. Keep up the good work, I’ll be back soon.

Food was ok but the service was absolutely terrible they kept asking over and over again if we wanted this and that and what was our Oder it took 20 minutes no wonder they need staff

I’m new to the area and it’s hard to find something nice when you don’t know where to go and after driving past a few nights ago on the way home from work I thought I’d try it and it was absolutely superb I can’t wait to come back again

Didnt get order right. Food squeezed into a tiny carton ! No forks. Gravy was nice and fish. Chips bit soggy. Wouldnt return

Loved it!! Lovely portion sizes, good prices. We were staying at crimdon dene and had it delivered the first night. Was so good we had it again the leaving night. 10/10 would recommend.

First visit, had a takeout, made to order so ordered a Large fish, what a size, but even tastier, really enjoyed it, a hot day so inside was very warm but so was the welcome & the chatter. 5 stars all round.

Always skeptical ordering from new places. However, the food was outstanding & I’m very fussy! Also a massive thank you to the delivery driver and the restaurant for following the instructions I left. 10/10 keep it up!

As a local resident come here often . But had to write this review following an order of pizza . Plenty chicken but where was the mushrooms and onions,?? Very disappointed ☹️. More like a Margherita pizza with chicken .

I don't normally do takeaway reviews but I'm no stranger to a fish supper and though this place worthy of mention. Very good fish and delicious chips. Fish was flaky, batter was tasty, crunchy but not hard. We stupidly got 2 large fish and chips. (The menu had large or small.) Where we're from they do small fish supper or just fish supper...when Cod on Rocks says large fish they mean it. It was a very nice bit fish but it was huge. I can only think its because they do lotsbof business serving family groups who are holidaying nearby. We could easily have shared a large fish and chips. I'd definitely go back.

Just had the most DELICIOUS takeaway from here! We are currently staying at Crimdon Dene & wanted to try decent local fish & chips & weren’t disappointed. The two gents & lady working in the shop were lovely to deal with, even though I had to nip across the road to Morrisons to get cash out, they kept my order on their till ready to put through when I got back. We ordered large cod (£7), cod bites (£3.80), XL portion of chips (£3.75), 2 sausage in batter (around £2 each) and a large curry sauce (£1.50ish) and every single bit of our order was yummy! The large cod is HUMUNGOUS (we actually all ended up having a bit, hubby didn’t even mind 🤣) and the sausages in batter were perfect… juicy, batter was crispy but not rock hard & everything but the curry sauce was cooked to order so it was fresh & piping hot. We go home in 3 days and I’m already planning on a trip back before we leave! Thank you all so much, as we stay in Crimdon when visiting family up here, we will definitely be back.

Recently tried here twice when staying at Crimdon Dean. The takeaway food here was of good quality. Tried the parmas/pizza/chicken tikka tray/Fish/Sausage and all were of good quality and tasty. The prices were very good too without compromising the quality of the food. Highly recommended takeaway when in this area.

Really enjoyed our fish and chips from here. We ordered a large fish each and a large chips and never managed to finish it. There was quite a wait but worth it. They only take cash. There was a huge menu of different foods here so might try something else next time we stay in area but then again the fish was so good…………

We ordered 2 small fish and chips and a fish for the dog , and 2 tubs of curry sauce, delivery was quick ,to the caravan park , that's the best thing about it , box's were huge ,if u get a large one they must be massive lol , but chips were anaemic could of done with a couple of minutes more , fish was big but tasted of nowt , our curry sauce we can't comment on cos we actually received chilli sauce , who I mean who would actually eat fish and chips with chilli sauce , so after looking forward to this all week the only happy person was Bobby, the dog 🐕 😀.

A++++++ Always good quality. Order a large fish n you get a whale. Loads of chips. Deliveries ard always early which isnt a problem for me. Delivery drivers are always spot on. Well mannered and friendly. My dog is always excited to see them or it could be the food. I have only had to ring the shop once and that was only because i thought id missed yhe delivery. my fajlt. Highly recommend this shop.

Absolutely love Cod on the Rocks. Can't fault the food, it always arrives on time or early and is always piping hot and you get really generous portions. Have been ordering from here for years and will continue to do so.

Been here a few times now and never disappointed.

Seems popular as both visits they were dealing with phone orders which meant counter orders were a little slow.

Ordered 2 small fish and one large chips £12.?? Which were fantastic. Then later looking at menu , the special was 2 small fish and chips £11.50 . So I'll be asking for that next time .

Very disappointed with Fish as chewy / overcooked and not as nice as it usually is.. Price gone up which, given the economy, fair enough, but didn't enjoy and probably go elsewhere now.

The quality of the food were perfect and the portions were way bigger than expected. The fish was amazing and the sausages were really nice too. Curry sauce was lovely and the dog enjoyed her scampi! However, it’s not ideal to have fish and chips without the mushy peas as they were missed off the order, along with a tub of gravy so my meal was pretty dry. Delivery time was great, nice and on time which is a rarity these days from other restaurants. I’ll definitely order from here again!

The 2 small fish and chips are great value and always friendly service. Nicely cooked in the past. Been today and sadly fish over battered and overcooked and chewy. Disappointed. Such a shame.

Love the fact they sell smaller pieces of cod srperate, not just large cod. Service great shame they are CASH ONLY that was only draw back but easily rectified as Morrisons corner shop just up road has a free cash machine!!

I just went for a chip buttie and was shocked £3.45 just for the chip buttie, If I wanted gravy or curry on top it would cost just over £4. There is a fish shop on Middle Street where you can get a chip buttie for £2.50 and with sauce £3

We always come here when we go to the beach at Crimdon. Really excellent fish and chips. Today the batter was a bit soggy but that was a one off, it's usually perfect. They don't take cards for info.

These Chips are not chips if you are lucky you may receive a full chip or two ..but then you get sharp jagged thinly cut wafer thin chips..i know a crisp packet has more potato in them...the grease is is artery clogging..please stay away if you cherish life

My food was delivered on time however tasted and looked like it was old food , paid alot of money for old food , fish was hard and the chips seemed uncooked , should have been a lot nicer for the price , I am very disappointed

Best fish shop / kebab shop / parmo shop around. We travel 30 mins for a treat and never disappoints.

We normally go to Blyth but the thunderstorms sent us to blackhall rocks beach. Amazing! But also this place is excellent. Proper chips and the fish freshly cooked to order, Fabulous batter. Bye Blyth, hello Cod on rocks....

Lovely food every time I’ve been, can’t fault the staff or the service, I would definitely recommend Cod on the Rocks

Didn’t have the salad or garlic sauce that was ordered.

Although the delivery time from placing the order was about 1hour and a half (stated this when ordered) and it was 5 minutes later than the expected time, the food arrived hot and was lovely.

this was the second time using the chip shop as we were again staying on near by holiday park and used it twice this year its a good fish and chip shop called to order for delivery and they ask is it the name xxxx and yes could not belive it still on system from last year so handy and agin the next takeaway name yes we will use again and every time were up that way so frindly on phone

Good value for money, potion size is excellent. Food is good, batter good colour and crispy, my partner recommends the corn beef pattie, highly seasoned especially with pepper, I like the small fish & chips.

Wasn’t the best we’ve had from there. Firstly my husband didn’t get his gravy got mushy peas instead. The chips were awful full of scraps. I ordered the Pattie I’ve absolutely no idea what was in it but it wasn’t nice 🥹

We made our order over the phone and the guy who took my order was really good. He repeated my order back, perfectly, and the food arrived in the time slot he told me. The food was hot, fresh, well packaged and very tasty! The portions were huge! So I advise that if you have a smaller appetite you may want to consider sharing! All in all a fab experience! I/we really recommend this take away! Thank you
