Small 'house' restaurant very very friendly and attentive staff. Excellent menu choice and very well prepared food. Didn't try the pub area as it was closing soon. Good amount of parking and a small outdoor seating area. Draft IPA by Grand Central was a pleasant addition.

My Uncle recommended The Blue House and I will say we would come back again. There was 7 of us, and when we booked the table they asked if we would pre-order so we wouldn't be disappointed if something wasn't available. The portion sizes were generous to say the least, piping hot and very tasty. We will be back the next time we are back up in the area.

The food was red hot and tasty. The serving was more than ample. Staff were pleasant. We returned and had an amazing meal staff went out of their way for us the chef was amazing. Highly recommend.

Looking for a new house to move to in the area, getting peckish after a 3 hour drive, then looking at houses, needed refreshments , didn't know the area just entered local pubs near to me into google and the blue house came up, am I glad it did, what a meal my wife and I had, Steak & kidney pie with veg for the wife and battered cod with chips for me, absolutely brilliant meals, more than enough for us, luckily we were hungry, very tasty and so fresh. I would recommend this place to eat, reasonably priced as well, excellent service from the waitresses, hopefully our house hunting will end with us getting a place near this restaurant. looking forward to eating there again.

This is a pub not to be missed, myself and colleagues visited after looking at reviews and were not disappointed. The pub was full when we arrived and we assumed it would be a bit of a wait to be served. This was not the case at all, the fantastic staff were amazing and very helpful. The starters were great and were followed by a course of mains which were excellent. Great staff great chef great food

The menu is extensive, very generous portions, the meals are always cooked to perfection, and good value for money. You never have to wait very long before your food is brought to your table. The staff are friendly and helpful

Absolutely lovely food was amazing

Wow! Visited for a family meal and each of us were massively impressed. We were seated quickly and shown the drinks menu, lots of options including some tasty cocktails. The food was outstanding, really great home cooked grub that just put a smile on your face 🙂 I opted for the mince and dumplings which was unreal, presented in a really pretty way and tasted amazing. So pleased I went for a dessert too, the lemon tart was outrageously good! The staff were all really friendly and done everything to make sure we had a lovely evening. We can’t wait to come back again!

Good food. Booking a table is advised. Quaint eatery converted from historical stables or suchlike, on it's own out of the way on crossroads from Haswell not too far from Durham. Can't mistake it when in sight. Its Blue. Ample car park to rear may be crowded at busy times.

Katsu Chicken. Sauce too much chilli 🌶 in. So bad could not taste the rest of the meal. Had stomach issues all night & for several hours the following day.

Went today, four of us, 3 pints Birra moretti, bottle of merlot. 4 great, delicious mains and 4 lovely desserts. Lovely friendly staff, quick service and at £23.50 a head you cannot go wrong. We shall certainly be back.

The service was excellent. We went for Sunday lunch at 2.45pm and I think service finishes at 3pm on Sunday. The staff were really friendly. Sunday lunch had a choice of beef, chicken, pork and roasted ham or you could have 3 meats for £15.95. Plus extra gravy is 50p per jug. The lunch was lovely, hone cooked food. I had pork with a gorgeous and light crackling. Mashed potato, roast potato, roasted parsnip and a separate turin of carrots and savoy cabbage (make sure to carefully pick out the separate veg because the bowl was full of water). The food was really tasty and the meals were served very quickly. The heat in the main room was Insanely hot, which may be an issue for some people. We would definitely recommend.

I would prefer not to recommend "The Blue House". It'll make it more difficult for me to get a table, but these people deserve to be known. The food here is INCREDIBLE. Service is a delight and the atmosphere in the restaurant is like sitting in a friend's dining room. It's cosy and relaxed, drinks promptly served and just wait for the food... Steak and Kidney steamed pudding, whatever potatoes you like, chips are marvelous, mash is smooth and creamy, REALLY fresh veg and a pudding big enough to move into. Meat that melts in the mouth with wonderful gravy. Desserts! 4 different cheesecakes, syrup sponge, sticky toffee pudding, meringue nests - what to have????? YOU MUST BOOK!

Perfect chilled environment for catch up with friends, staff were polite and helpful, ordered the burger and chips and wasn’t disappointed, really enjoyed the flavours of the burger and the homemade style chips were cooked to perfection, will be going back and recommend to friends and family to go.

Having visited here for a lot of years, previously I would have described the food as average pub grub and dismissed this as an option as we usually go for food which is a bit more special or interesting. Recently we visited as we were hearing a lot of good comments from people we know so thought we’d give it a try. I must admit I was very pleasantly surprised at what we were served - it was amazing and not what we were expecting. Afterwards I got the opportunity to speak to the chef and he was telling me that he was getting more free reign to be more creative and keep looking out for the specials as this is where he could do his thing. We went again last night and I had the duck. Again this didn’t disappoint - presentation was amazing, tasted amazing, cooked to perfection. I don’t usually write reviews unless I’m warning people about bad experiences, but I would really urge people to go here and try the specials, you won’t be disappointed. Well done to the owner for letting the artist in the kitchen do his thing, and well done to the chef for transforming my opinion of the place. Top marks, see you soon

Sunday dinner is amazing. 3 meat load on plate

2 of us visited here recently and won’t be back in a hurry. Ordered jacket potato with salad and a steak and ale pie. Jacket potato was the size of a small garden potato and the pie was as dry as sticks. Both plates of food took ages to come out as well. Tables and chairs have been crammed in so there’s no room to move your chair if you need to either. It’s far too crowded. Not impressed at all.

Food is always amazing here and plenty to choose from, great if you’re wanting a real ‘pub grub’ meal. Prices are fair and service is brilliant.

Has another amazing meal here tonight. The specials menu is outstanding. Last week my husband had the venison and it was delicious, this week he tried the cod lion and it was equally fantastic. Staff always friendly and happy to go the extra mile. Highly recommended!

My wife and I visited this establishment for a mid week lunch for the first time, and were pleasantly surprised at the fantastic food , good service, and very reasonable prices compared to other restaurants around the area. We will definitely be visiting this place again soon.

Been to the blue house lots of times and it never disappoints. Never had a bad meal here so far and the standard is always consistent, really good prices for the quality of food you get. There is a great atmosphere, it’s always clean and tidy! The staff are so polite and provide great customer service, could not recommend the place more!

There was a few of us went for a meal. I didn't really enjoy mine but everyone else's looked delicious, would go again but have something else .

We were on holiday and spotted this pub thought it was going to be average but it was anything but. Great menu great food great price and great staff. Booked to go the following day for lunch 2 main courses for £21 again expected small portions but biggest yorkshire pudding 6 slices of beef lovely veg and thick tasty gravy partnel had the home made fish cakes they were perfect. Pity we our holiday ended .

It's truly, honest-to-god food, cooked perfectly and served with a smile. I would have given it 5 stars, which it deserves, but I have to keep something in hand for eateries that exceed this quality. Haven't found any yet though!

Absolutely fantastic! the whole experience was wonderful, the staff were lovely and the service was top notch! The pub/restaurant is beautiful and homely.The portion sizes are immense! despite my greatest efforts I just couldn't finish the mixed grill, which was cooked beautifully,my partner had the southern fried chicken, sadly the coating was burnt on the outside, but redeemed itself because the chicken breast was lovely, definitely coming back to try more of the extensive menu selection very soon

Excellent service. We had pie and chips, the pie dish was full of succulent beef and gravy with puff pastry top and hot beef sandwich, we had this before. Lots of roast beef in a roll with a jug of onion gravy. I would recommend both meals

Went to the Blue house for daimond wedding anniversary what a experience. Staff, meals, service, parking, this place cannot be beaten. We have dined out at several places over the last year on special occasions but this the best of many. 9 meals and 9 highly satisfied customers. Thank you everyone at the Blue House for a excellent meal we will definitely be returning.

My partner and myself ate here last night I can honestly say it was the best food I ate in a long time I opted for the slow roasted belly pork with scollops followed by crepes with ice cream, my partner had the monkfish and prawn hanging kebab followed by crunchy toffee pie which we both said was absolutely delicious and large portions. . The girl who served us was really helpful as were the other staff, nice friendly atmosphere, good parking facilities couldnt fault it at all..looking forward to our return..
