Great atmosphere, friendly staff and well priced good food

Decided to go to Cosy club for breakfast this weekend as it was my birthday. Rang them up to check if they were dog friendly and asked if I needed to book, I was told no need! Today after a 5 mile walk we arrived at cosy club only to be told they were busy so no accepting people without bookings! I said I had rung and was told no need to book! The guy said ah well that's our booking system, they are separate to us! But it was Durham I spoke to directly, not the booking service! Needles to say, I will never go there again!

Great food (buttermilk fried chicken). Long waiting time, even though the restaurant was less than half full. Beautiful interior and views.

Friendly employees, took care really well of my friend with food intolerance. I would recommend Spanish Chicken.

This is my second five star review of Cosy Club. We’ve been several times over the last few years - and we’re yet to have a bad experience. The food is always tasty and well presented - but what stands out the most is how professional all the staff are. Gabrielle took our order this time and, as with all the restaurant staff, was pleasant, chatty and polite!

My hubby and I recently had the most gorgeous breakfast after a nights staying durham. Hands down the best breakfast I have ever had other than my Mams lol. The hash browns stole the show. Definitely be back!

I've been before and really liked Cosy Club - very different to others in Durham - great menu and the food is good. So last night I took one of my Mentees to introduce him and then he could introduce other Chinese students in Durham to a great dining experience. There were 6 other diners There were two male staff on duty one very aloof, one polite (ish) I wouldn't say the warmest of welcomes as we waited far too long to be acknowledged. We sat on the veranda and after some explanations of the menu made our choices. The younger of the two staff returned to take our order and asked for my colleagues ID - as he is 22 I was unsure as to why but the waiter explained he was doing so because of the "high ups" My colleague has digital ID and this isnt acceptable. As we wanted a glass of wine with our meal we left. I was FUMING - I know its not a legal ENTITLEMENT but it is LAWFUL to serve a 22 year old with a glass of wine with their meal. I know its at their discretion but quite frankly its embarassing and ridiculous and I will NEVER EVER go again and I rather suspect word will get around the students in Durham too - We had a lovely Thai meal and a delicious couple of Thai beers thanks to your policy Cosy Club!! Not so cosy at all.....

Nice elegant place with reasonable prices

I visited whilst away on a work trip, the restaurant was dead given there are few students around but I can imagine it's buzzing in term time. My waiter, Matt I think his name was, was very friendly, very attentive and looked after me throughout. I picked 3 of the small plates which were all excellent although they were very rich. It was the most expensive place I ate over the week but I would return due to the lovely staff and quirky surroundings

This was our first time eating here and it was beautiful, the place is stunning. Our meals were beautiful. The service was fantastic the staff are very friendly and polite, we will definitely be eating here more often and bringing the rest of our family too.

I'm afraid for a Saturday night the Sheffield restaurant lacked atmosphere and the service was slow . I ordered the fish pie with peas . I misread the description (my fault ) and thought it came with a side of mash ....! The fish pie was in an extremely shallow dish with a thin veneer of crunchy mash . Yes there was fish under it but really how much seafood can you fit in such a shallow dish !! The peas were over cooked and shrunken but after waiting an age for the meagre offerings to arrive I wasn't going to send them back and wait again for my evening meal . I'm afraid this isn't a place I'd visit again as £18 for what was basically a flat fish pie left rather a bad taste in my mouth .

My favourite place to eat in Durham. I love the decor, the vibe and the friendly staff. The food is always delicious. There is a separate gluten-free menu and I've always had a great experience there.

A group of us were visiting for a leaving do, I wasn’t impressed with the wait at the bar, I know staff are dedicated to making orders for those having bottomless brunch but there were 3 staff not doing anything & I was left for a while so didn’t get off on the right footing, I didn’t participate in the brunch as I’d eaten & you couldn’t change the cocktails for lager or cider so it wasn’t worth my while, food did look really nice & those that dined concurred. Loved the decor!

Very nice atmosphere, you feel like you're stepping back in time in a slightly spooky, Downtown Abbey- ish tea room. Their breakfast menu is really nice with tons of vegans options. It's big on portion, quality of ingredients and taste. Friendly staff and beautiful view on the Castle.

We visited sat am for breakfast - nice venue and friendly staff - coffee came cold and they changed it after a wait, food was wrong order and overcooked - wouldn’t recommend better venues on other side of the river.

Being a very picky eater i was catered to in a professional manner by Rasharn i believe her name was, 5 Stars lovely lady .

Dogs allowed in bar area, first come first served basis so no way to reserve. Dining in the bar area is also an option. The venue is very nice and sophisticated near the river.

Food here is amazing. We always get picky bits like arancini, bread and butter and mac and cheese and they’re all fantastic. It’s pretty quiet in the week and the atmosphere is a bit lacking as there’s no music or anything. The last few times I’ve been the service has been a bit lazy and slow. It’s lovely inside though and the food is definitely worth going for.

Great atmosphere. Server is entertaining and engaging. Lewis had a great sense of humour. The food selection was large and our meals were 10 out of 10.

Went for meal with friends. Food was disgusting overpriced and awful. We were then insulted with £14 for service charge which we were not told about. Service was good but not worth £14 very disappointed. Drinks also overpriced

Lovely decorating been a few times but first for food. Got cluten free menu which I was impressed with. However food was awful portion very small way overpriced. Could cook better myself. Found cocktails expensive. We were ten overcharged for service which they didn't inform us about they put on another £14 on bill for service. Staff were friendly and helpful bur wouldn't trust them after that. Very let down with the whole experience

Passed here numerous times and never tried it but did today after a visit to collect my passport. It was sensational, wonderfully decorated it’s like stepping back in time. All the staff were brill but the star of the show was the food. Superbly presented and packed with flavour. 10/10 the name was what put me off I think!! Weird name, but ace food and service. I had 3 small plates, pulled beef and smoked bacon croquettes, panko halloumi and pork belly bites with chili jam. I’ll be back with the Mrs soon !!

Visited for lunch today and was so impressed with the food. I’ve never tried Cosy Club before so wasn’t exactly sure what to expect but the menu had some real gems on there and things you wouldn’t necessarily see all the time. I ordered duck confit cassoulet and it was absolutely delicious, well seasoned, tasty and the duck fell off the bone. I’ll be looking forward to coming back again soon.

Refused to serve us food because we didn't reserve a table. Yet there where plenty of available tables! Half empty restaurants

Delicious food and drinks, decently priced for the area.

We had lunch here yesterday. To start I enjoyed a fabulous “ Mocktail” followed by Salmon Fishcakes which were delicious, with a perfectly poached egg. Then I had an Affogato with Baileys, the Icecream was gorgeous. The service was immaculate, and I am sorry I didn’t get the Waiters name to compliment him! The other 3 in our party were very happy with all their choices, especially the Desserts. The atmosphere was perfect for a chatty lunch.

Don't get me wrong, this place is most definitely cosy. I love the decor and relaxed vibe. I could literally hang out here all day. Good choice of drinks. Unfortunately, the food was a bit of a letdown. Average food and small portions. It's probably my fault for just ordering a starter and side. Would definitely visit again but just for drinks next time.

Absolutely amazing way to celebrate our 20th anniversary. From the get go we were treated with a free glass of bubbles. Staff were amazing and so welcoming. Couldn't do enough for us. Food was absolutely gorgeous. Definitely recommend.

Our experience at Cosy Club was fabulous from start to finish. First of all, the maître'd greeted us like old friends, and even knew our dog's name from the booking with no prompting. The service was friendly and helpful; nothing was too much bother. Food was great, but almost overshadowed by the overall experience. It was Shrove Tuesday and the waiter offered our little one pancakes for pudding, even though they are normally only on their brunch menu. Everyone loved it, from age 7 to 70. Kids portions big enough to fill a hungry 11 year old. Vegan options also tasty, fresh and filling. Just great all round.

We are on a weekend trip for my mum’s 80th birthday and we visited The Cosy Club tonight 25/1/24. We had such a great evening and the guy who was working tonight was so lovely and made my mum’s night!! Definitely recommend, food was delicious and service exceptional!!

It’s always good to see a Cosy Club - a sure sign of a certain level of quality and comfort, and always in interesting surroundings. We ordered a range of small plates, and while they really are quite small, the food was delicious and we enjoyed it all. The staff were friendly and helpful, although flagging one down when we eventually wanted the bill was a bit of a task. All in all, we had a really good time, the food was excellent, and we’ll be back.

Booked out about 20 people for my birthday and the staff were very accomodating, allowing me to make numerous changes to the total number and providing no calorie menus for certain guests upon my request. We got an area of the restaurant laid out for us a little bit far away from everyone else so it felt a bit more intimate and everything came out correctly and was great. My only qualms were that it was a bit pricey and that the party menu is a bit limited but that is to be expected, I think everyone was happy in the end. I would say the fried chicken and chips is not particularly interesting as an option particularly for a place like Cosy Club which is a bit more catered towards high end. Particularly we all liked the sharing starting platters that were provided, there was enough for everyone to try something without anyone feeling like they had gotten more or less than anyone and the staff were very attentive throughout and had two people going round taking orders. Plus the atmosphere is great here - I will be coming back.

Arrived before our cinema trip staff are so very nice and friendly very welcoming. I chose to have the butter chicken and it definitely wasn’t to my taste it was rather burnt tasting. However the other two meals that was ordered was enjoyed. Would not rule out going again.

Just had a fabulous pre Christmas lunch get together with friends. Food was great and service and staff excellent. Special shout out to Jolie for humouring us 😊

We visited for a Christmas lunch, but our experience was, to day the least, disappointing. The website had offered a two- or three-course lunch, but the first course was fixed (and was mandatory!), and we were not able to have a main course and a dessert instead. The service was extremely slow - after an hour and a half, we were still waiting for our main course, even though the staff knew one of us had a train to catch. Main courses were not all served at the same time, and some of the food was cold when it finally arrived. Although the staff apologised, and in compensation provided the wine without charge, this experience didn't exactly fill us with festive cheer. One to avoid in future.

We visited the cosy club for our works christmas lunch. When I first saw the menu, I was slightly disappointed as on the 2 course menu, you have to have the sharing starters. This actually was the best part of the meal, For my main course, I selected the Christmas turkey and ham hock pie with all the trimmings. I was really looking forward to this but when it came it was very disappointing. The pastry on the pie itself was very hard and overcooked. The centre of the pie was mainly a cream sauce with very little meat, The rest of the meal was lacking in taste and the small sprouts had only been cut in half and I don't think they had seen a pan. For the cost of £29.95, this was not only overpriced but very disappointing. On a plus side the staff were very attentive and the atmosphere was great. I will return to the cosy club at some point to try their normal menu as I have been told it is usually very good

I’m celiac so finding somewhere with good gluten free food and staff that are aware of it all is pure gold. Cosy club does great food full stop and its gluten free menu doesn’t feel like an after thought. Can’t recommend enough. Photo attached is their gluten free breakfast bap and if you’re GF you know ordering anything involving “bread” is a mistake as it’s usually awful. Not at cosy

This is a great favourite of my husband and I, and a regular Friday treat. Everything about it is of the highest quality. First class service from professional and friendly staff, who are consistently excellent. Alex looked after us today and we would like to thank him for a great experience. My vegan breakfast was delicious and my husband enjoyed his bubble and squeak/back bacon. Can’t recommend this enough as it’s one of the best in town.

really hard to find something vegeterian and does not have alcohol ingredient (cider, wine, etc.) at the same time and if you ask for it someone may come and questions your requests.

I've been to other Cosy Club restaurants. There's something reassuringly relaxed and informal about them. You know what you're getting. The Durham restaurant was new to all of us - a group of eight or so friends and colleagues. We had a great evening. Partly this is because of the setting. Although the modern concrete setting wouldn't entice you in, the interior of the place is brilliant - beautifully lit, full of old portraits, a world of warmth and comfort. The service was the second key feature - nicely informal, very welcoming, ever attentive. And the menu means that people can choose mostly familiar dishes: the burger, the fishcakes, the steaks were all very good. So thank you Durham for welcoming me and my colleagues. And thank you to the Cosy Club team for giving us such an enjoyable evening - including a lovely, unexpected bottle of fizz at the end to round off our night.

Dropped by for lunch with a couple of friends. Efficient and friendly service. The restaurant has an excellent location, with some outside seating, and providing a view over the River Wear and Durham City. Menu to cater for many tastes. Food was very good. Will re-vist.

Unreal food. Definitely coming back to try more. The shakshuka was definitely on par with those in London, the pancakes perfectly light and fluffy and the breakfast bun packed with flavour.

This was a treat for our granddaughter and her boyfriend who are students at Durham University. They had said it was a week where you could get a 3 course meal for £20 and were keen to try. We arrived early before them and were given the set menus and a la carte menus. The £20 menu wasn’t really to our taste so we decided to go a la carte. When the youngsters turned up they were keen to try the £20 option. When we tried to order we were told we either all had to have set menu or all a la carte. We questioned it but were told that was what it was. We all had a la carte which wasn’t what the youngsters really wanted. The restaurant was only half full so I’m not sure why there was an issue. Had we been told of the rules when we sat down we would probably have gone else where. Bemused.

We took two friends who had never visited before. They, like us, loved the place. Our server Kyle was very good, explaining dishes and recommended cocktails. We had very good food and the cocktails were well made.

The restaurant and staff were great, but I've got to say I was very disappointed with the size of the full English breakfast and the time it took to get our food.

Having had a long day, the friendly and easy atmosphere of the cosy club (Durham) was perfect! We were met at the door and quickly served drinks, which were very well flavoured, then shown to our table with seamless understanding of when we were ready. Our waiter, Rebecca, was lovely: attentive without being overbearing, thoughtful, and very friendly. I loved the interior decor too! We will be returning.

A lovely bar with great cocktails that are reasonably priced! We visited the next day and had breakfast. The gluten free choices for breakfast are exceptional. Staff were really knowledgeable about cross contamination and allergies. Gabby was our server and she was amazing, so kind and friendly- chatting about our day and what we had planned etc. We will definitely come back for breakfast again as the food was amazing, delicious and there was so much of it. The manager brought the gluten free food over first to avoid contamination which was a lovely touch.

We went there for the first time on Sunday for brunch and we were very impressed. The food lives up to the decor which is grand and of a high standard. I got the dirty breakfast butty and my partner got poached eggs and avocado on toast. My 3 year old Daughter got the English breakfast which comes with a carton of juice. Everything was cooked really well and we also enjoyed a cappuccino and freshly squashed orange juice. There’s also a nice seating area on the balcony with views of Durham Cathedral. Service was also excellent, we’ll definitely be back :)

On entry, you are struck by how classy the place looks. The food was also very good....once we got it. The restaurant was about half full, the waiter warned us that the food might take few minutes more than usual, which we were happy with....

Have dined here many times and always enjoy the food. The views are great overlooking the Wear and Durham city. The decor is very classy with a great atmosphere. Very friendly and helpful staff who generally interact very nicely with our young daughter, keeping her entertained.

First time trying the Durham branch after trying York a couple of years ago.. The food was absolutely amazing, the staff were friendly, provided recommendations and very attentive but not overbearing.. cannot wait to return

Such lovely food and lovely service. I had a young woman I think her name was rebeka ( brown hair and fair skin) and she was so sweet. Amazing recommendation for the desert too, the lemon posset was divine !

If you want to go to a proper bar, Cosy Club is your place. Nice drinks, nicely prepared. Great service and an ambiance that seems like a 30s bar. A totally hidden gem. You must improve your Google maps locations.

From entering the club, the staff were friendly and very welcoming. Service was 1st class: prompt, efficient, attentive and friendly. The food was amazing. The venue beautiful and facilities clean and spacious. This was our 1st visit but it will NOT be our last. Can't wait to return.

Popped in for a mid afternoon drink. Didn't have food but other diners did. Looked really nice. Various age ranges. Lives upto its name as even though it is quite a big venue it had a really cosy atmosphere

Popped in for lunchtime drink before the cinema and was impressed by the look of the place -could have spent ages looking round. Instead had a lovely stout! Not many beers so Daz a little unhappy but lots of lager and cider. For such a big place it was indeed cosy so will come again and try meal next time

Overall a good experience, food was hot and tasty! Dog friendly in the bar area, one of the ladies brought over a bowl of water. Drinks were quick and refreshing. Would absolutely return again.
