Called in today without booking. The Sunday Roast was beautiful. We had the beef and the pork option. The meat was so tender and the crackling on the pork was spot on. Veg was lovely with mash and roasties. All served with a big yorkershire pub and extra gravy. Fantastic value at £12.95. Service was really quick. We don't usually go out for Sunday dinner but we'll be back!

What an amazing Sunday lunch today. We arrived without booking and had the best pub Sunday lunch ever!! Beautifully cooked, piping hot with added gravy served by really lovely staff. I would definitely be going there again.

First time visit for Sunday lunch with family, fantastic food - probably the most tender beef I’ve ever tasted. Friendly staff giving great service and great value, what’s not to like, will certainly return soon.

Great pub with a friendly, welcoming atmosphere. We made use of the kids play are and outdoor seating making the most of the sun. We ordered 2 steak & mozzarella ciabatta, accompanied with homemade chips & salad which were tasty with huge portions. My eldest ordered a margarita pizza which was devoured in seconds and the kids sausage and chips was thoroughly enjoyed. Reasonably priced and enjoyed all round, we can’t wait to return and more from the menu! Highly recommend!

We went for Sunday lunch after a family weekend away in Yorkshire. Lovely comfort food, good portions and very tasty! They had some new members of staff in who were being trained, they all did a great job and were very attentive.

Had a gorgeous Sunday dinner today at the travellers rest. Very friendly staff and the service was great food came out very quickly and was delicious. We had a standard beef dinner and a small beef dinner and both portion sizes were fantastic the quality of the meat was 10/10 and had a large side of mixed veg. Will definitely be going back again soon for a dinner and to also try their main menu during the week. Would recommend to anyone to go, amazing value for money and lovely food.

Visited the Travellers Rest for lunch for the first time today and I’ll definitely go back. Friendly staff, great service and food was so good. I went for the Featherblade beef which was amazing, portion was huge too. Saw someone else having the Travs burger which also looked unreal so it won’t be long until I’m back for one of those!

Great spot for a family Sunday lunch - traditional roast was delicious, with vegetarian vegan options, and a good kids’ menu. We’ll be back. There is a lot of outdoor space, but it didn’t look geared up for customers (yet?) - hopefully that’s in the future plans. The service was great - really friendly without being too much. And it’s dog friendly!!

Food is amazing, very reasonably priced and a great choice. Very highly recommended. If you're passing by then stop. David and the staff are extremely welcoming.

We are up here from Salford staying at Ushaw which only serves breakfast so we have to fend for ourselves and found the travelers rest. Glad we did Jackie looked after us with some very useful info for the area. Our food came and we were not disappointed very tasty not to much and not to little. We left a good tip promisesing to return later in the week.

We were looking for a lovely traditional Sunday Dinner.We were not disappointed.A lovely selection of veg with additional extras of Cumberland Sauage Stuffing and Cauliflower Cheese.We chose beef and it was beautifully cooked.Gravy was tasty and not runny.Staff were lovely and polite and service was quick.We will definitely be back.

Chose the travellers to host dinner for about 25 people for my parents 60th wedding anniversary. The manager set up an area for us, did the decorations and it looked great. Food was pre ordered and all courses were served by staff so that we were all eating at the same time, absolutely no complaints about the meals, service or atmosphere!! A fantastic time was had by all! Lovely local pub.

Absolutley beautiful food! Friendly staff but not the iver powering kind and cosy pub atmosphere. We went for the first time about a month ago and been back 3 times since, its that good. Tonight we had the feather blade of beef with mash dumpling and honey carrots, and the lasagne with garlic bread and salad both were fantastic. They also have an italian night on a monday 3 courses for less than a tenner, and there not shabby portions either. Deffo recomend.

We had a get together with family and friends to celebrate my daughter’s 18th birthday. Fabulous evening from start to finish. Staff were amazing. Buffet was wonderful, cannot recommend this pub enough. Definitely worth a visit and we will be back. Thank you.

Visited on Monday night for the Italian night - 3 courses for £9.95. Food was amazing and the portions were great. The pizza was really tasty and plenty to take home and have the next day 😂 Absolute bargain and a lovely place - will definitely be returning to try the full menu!

Arrived at 5.30pm was seated straight away by a lovely young lady who was very cheerful and polite. Drinks order was taken within minutes and served. I chose to have sirloin steak chops and peppercorn sauce the steak was beautiful it did have some fat on it but very tasty. The home cooked chips were so nice and very tasty as well as the onion rings. My son had the mince and dumplings with mash and he said it was amazing the best he’s had. We had plenty on our plates that we couldn’t finish it all. The young gentleman who served our meal was also very friendly and couldn’t do enough for us. We had one Coke each and the bill was £43 will definitely return.

Went for Sunday lunch today, 1st Time but we thought we would give it a try!! And sorry but not good Vegetables were all watery and everything tasted the same, I got belly pork which was all fat and tasteless. My wife got the feather blade beef which was cold and also fatty. The roast potatoes tasted like Aunt Bessie’s and not cooked through as tasted of powder. Won’t be returning sorry back to our normal Sunday lunch at the Red Lion on A167 👌👌👌

We have been frequenting this pub for many years as it has always been a good food venue. We visit about two to three times a week with our dog and we are all made very welcome, it's cosy with a roaring fire and the staff are very friendly. The beer is good and on the occasions we have eaten here we have never been disappointed. We will be back.

Visited for dinner tonight, beautiful interior, friendly warm atmosphere. Food was absolutely spectacular for all of us (myself, son, husband and the grandparents). Our waiter Ethan was hilarious and made the visit even more enjoyable, will definitely be visiting again... hopefully very soon!

A favourite local of ours. Since new management took over earlier in 2023 the menu has been much better. The food quality is really good with lots of flavour. Staff are fab and friendly. We really like the atmosphere and food here.

Heard this place had changed ownership so decided to give it a try for a midweek evening meal went with a friend. We both ordered the feather-blade steak. Despite the place being very quiet it took an age for the food to arrive. I couldn’t fault the meal but the service was lack lustre we asked for extra gravy which took forever had to ask twice waitress apologised stating they had had to make it from scratch. The staff just seem to be hanging around the bar chatting. The second round of drinks we ordered also took ages and again we had to ask twice. The management need a rocket up the behind and need train and motivate the staff.

Decided to try after been recommended by friends and it didn’t disappoint the food was amazing! Well done chef! Lots of choice even our fussy teen. The atmosphere was really nice it had a real cosy feel to it and very welcoming! Every staff member we came across was lovely and made all of us feel at home. We will definitely be back as I can’t wait to try other dishes. I believe this could be our new favourite place. Well done to all the staff especially the chefs.

Well a friendly place with excellent and different food. Small lunch times menu but discovered it changes every day. Wish I lived closer. Every thing is made in house we started with black pudding with Guinness ketchup and a fried duck egg. For main I had grilled trout on a bed of mash and fish pie sauce with loads of king prawns and mussels. My friend had a bacon steak at least a centimeter thick with egg and chips.Congratulations to such an initiative chef for such a fantastic meal

We’ve been to the travellers rest quite a few times in the last few months and the food has always been fantastic. Service is great and very helpful.

Our first visit to the area and went here for dinner on the recommendation of our bed and breakfast hostess. The menu is absolutely fantastic, varied and so much to choose from. My husband had the slow cooked beef feather blade which was out of this world and I had the twice baked soufflé. We liked the menu so much we went back two days later to try the small plate selections on the Wednesday night. Its also dog friendly :-)

We haven't been here for some years but was told it was good so we decided to give it a go. We both had chicken Kiev which was absolutely superb, the breadcrumbs coating the chicken was amazingly crisp and light. It was served with creamy mash and garlic broccoli. We will definitely come back

Oh dear, shocking!! Had the lamb kebab!! Stodgy bread, dry lamb, a “drizzle” of the mint yogurt sauce. £15.00 for a takeaway meal!! Mentioned this at the end of the meal but didn’t want to spoil our family night. All other meals were average. Cheese toasted sandwich, dreadful!! Will not be returning.

This place is an absolute star. Not particularly exciting from the frontage the food is fantastic. Super prawns and gigantic scallops. Lovely cheese soufflé. Good prices. This place deserve recognition. Durham has limited fine dining but the quality of the food here fits that category. Inside Decore is dark- maybe a few flowers or plants but the food is exceptional. Fantastic!

Absolutely superb Sunday lunch for our family of 4. We had no complaints at all. The food was delivered looking very presentable and was hot and plentiful without being over the top. We all LOVED every dish .. Beef Featherblade; literally melted in the mouth and the Belly Pork with cracking was sublime. So many flavours going on! No hesitations about returning and all the staff were attentive, friendly and polite and an absolute credit to The Traveller's Rest. Well done. Thanks to Chef. LOVED IT.

Over heavily battered , poor oil . Each dish with Samphire had none . Appears chef is a fan of deep fry . As restaurant owners ourselves please minimise the deep fry and add more fresh greens.

My wife and I stopped overnight in our Motorhome at this delightful village pub. A good range of cask ales and a plentiful, tasty Sunday lunch. The staff were most efficient and very friendly. A delightful and enjoyable stopover during our recent travels. We are sure to visit again whenever we are in the area.

We had Sunday dinner...2 adults, 3 children, 1 dog. Very friendly welcome. Food was absolutely delicious. We were on our last night of a 2 week road trip, where we had eaten out most days.. and this meal was the best by far!! The Sunday roasts were delicious, as were the starters and puds. V generous portions. V good value would definitely come back again if in the area and would definitely recommend.

Cracking find! Staying nearby in an AirBnB, and came here after a day at Beamish. Lovely, classic pub… with fantastic quality food! Cheese & Bacon burger was lovely and juicy with great fries; the Monkfish special was also really nice! Puddings we’re awesome - Sticky Toffee pudding and a brownie - worth saving room for! Service was really quick and very friendly. Would recommend to all!!

My partner and I went to this restaurant after hearing some excellent reviews and we were not disappointed! The food was amazing, definitely some of the best we have had in Durham and the service was brilliant. I informed the waitress that my partner had a but allergy and she was brilliant in going through all ingredients and the menu to ensure this was catered for (even offering alternatives if necessary). We will definitely be back and I would highly recommend to anyone looking for excellent food at a reasonable price.

First time eating here, it was very rustic decor which was really easy on the eye. Went in with the intention of spending a lot more than the final bill. All together we ordered, 2 kids meals, 2 full price mains, 2 starters, 3 soft drinks and 2 alcoholic drinks.Bit disappointed by the monkfish, it was slightly over cooked and that they had ran out of halibut but it must be a popular dish so I can understand.Fantastic choices for the kids, 1 had fish and the other burger. Starters chosen were monkfish and ham fritter (more ham than batter). Mains consisted of steak, cooked perfectly and featherblade beef which just melts in your mouth. I hate fat on meat products, so for me just to be able to eat it and not have to cut the majority of the meant off was fantastic.Staff were so lovely and friendly and very helpful. Plemty of parking and a good amount of outdoor seating.9/10 easy.Didn't manage to get a photo of mains, that eagar to get stuck in!

Met with friends for lunch. Can’t recommend it enough. Great food, well cooked with friendly service.

The Travs is our local, how lucky we are. Can 100% rely on good, imaginative menus (adult and child) not just the usual pub grub. There’s always a warm welcome, for us and the dogs, by landlord and staff. Eating space inside and out, and always clean. But most of all, everything that comes out of that kitchen is top notch.

Definately restraunt quality food. Food was flawless and very nice staff aswell to add to a great experience. I will certainly be back and encourage others to go.

We visited on a very chilly evening in May. Staff were very welcoming and friendly but the service of drinks and food was very slow, which was not ideal given how cold it was outside. When they did arrive, however, everything was very good indeed. We will be back, if only to check that we were unlucky on this particular evening,
