Called in here on a Sunday lunch time without booking. Place was busy with a whole host of friendly faces and lovely staff. Got a table and ordered a Roast Pork Sunday lunch and extra stuffing and cauliflower cheese. I have to say that it was absolutely fantastic . Everything on the plate was cooked to perfection. Place was spotless . Toilets spotless. Lots of lovely dining areas and a lovely lounge. Find it weird that there aren’t more reviews on here that are more recent cos there should be. I will be taking the family down as soon as possible. The staff were smart and confident and this gave the place a really professional feel.

The experience was terrible from start to finish. The had not got enough cutlery on the table the staff were running around like headless chickens there were only 2 staff to serve the tables when we complained they told us that there had been 2 tables booked in for 15 people at 12-30 clearly the owners do not think anything of the of there staff or for there customers to have an enjoyable time. It took an hour to get the starters and we came out 2-45 after having main course. We were told by the waitress that they were getting the food as fast as they could which obviously means throwing it on your plate.I said to the waitress would you like it if you went to a restaurant and the meal was piled up on your plate like it was and she replied NO maybe the owner's of this restaurant should put the shutters down on this place as they have not got a clue about running this business. There were also other people complaining to you do have to feel sorry for the staff on the frontline you cannot feel sorry for chief obviously he has not got any pride in his maybe he and the owner's need a kick up the backside I would to anyone going for Christmas dinner take a book with you to read between courses or just don't go and save your money

The Shoulder at Hardtoft. What a great surprise, was just driving by after visiting Hardwick Hall and decided to stop for lunch. 2 for £10 deal, good choice on menu. Liver & Bacon was the best we've ever had. Home cooked, friendly people & good service. They told us have only recently taken it over in the last month, perhaps thats why older reviews not good. Booked in for 8.30pmGot taken to our table for 9.15Tapas ordered of which several dishes weren't available. Ordered bread, olive oil with balsamic The tiniest amount of balsamic you've ever seen for 6 people. We asked for more but were informed they'd run out so chef sent out the most disgusting gloop and said it was a 'mix' it tasted like fishy deep fat fryer oil with Sarsons vinegar in it. Even the waitress said she didn't know what it was. We sent it back and suggested the chef taste it. Our waitress said the chef declared there was nothing wrong with it! Erm excuse me 6 customers can't be wrong The other waiter was rushed off his feet -2 waiting on staff for the whole place Still waiting at way past 10.00 pm for our food so we decided to pay for drinks and leave. Then when we said why we were leaving we were told they'd had 2 members of staff phone in sick. If we'd been informed there was going to be a wait that would have been more acceptable than being left in the dark. Do you not have back up staff? Suggest you do so in future and if no one wants to come in at short notice offer your poor rushed off their feet waiting staff a small monetary bonus for coming in. Not a happy party of regular staff who will no longer be regulars Had a lovely meal at Indian Blues just up the road instead and were served immediately

We went out for a drive looking for a nice place to have Sunday lunch, we drove by and saw the Sunday lunch carvery sign so decided to pop in on the off chance they may have a table. We were warmly welcomed and given a table immediately, they explained how their carvery system worked. We had the works all four meats , food was beautiful , piping hot and plenty of it. It was only after we had eaten that while talking to the manager she said that the Sunday we visited 11/11/2016 was their first Sunday as they had only just taken over. You would not have known as service was extremely efficient , everything was organised we were impressed and will definitely be going back.

Lunches are huge and delicious and Sunday Carvery is perfect... absolutely mouth wateringly gorgeous! The environment is ambient, snug, a tasteful mix of contemporary modern and olde worlde, with stone fire places, exposed beams, candles... very relaxing and comfortable. Plenty of choice behind the bar. Very child friendly too. This is one of my favourite places to have a cozy, relaxing, leisurely lunch.

After buying a voucher on the Peak Fm website we thought this would be a great alternative to the coco bar bistro in Chesterfield. How very wrong. We observed the menu online and tapas it was, upon arrival we were told that they had a new menu- instantly disappointed as the new menu was terrible. Limited choice and basic at that. Service from the young girls was ok. We had jack daniels chicken wings to start which were ok. My mum ordered the steak pie, just gravy and puff top. The meat was extremely tough and she left most of it. I ordered quorn chilli, it was ok nothing to write home about. My partner had the ribs and chicken...ribs were mainly fat and grissly and the chicken tasted microwaved, most of the plate were chips which I enjoyed, others werent as keen. We suggested we didnt know about the change of menu and the young girl insisted the website had changed. Photo evidence below. We told the waitress of our disappointment of the food to no array and no offer of discount. Would definitely not return. A waste of money. Such a shame for a nice country pub to serve such bad good and combinations.

Mentioned that we couldn't eat the steak , waitress gave 10%off the bill. Didn't eat any of it. The Staff were all sat together on their phones in a corner. When finally told it was ready was still potatoes missing. The meat was nice but the Veg was under cooked could loose a tooth eating it, the yorkshire pudding had the consistancy of a wet sponge and the mash, well how can you get it so wrong, it tasted like they had poured all the fat out of the meat into it, it was disgusting. This is the 3rd time i have tried this establishment and has been terrible everytime. I only returned because it is said to have new owners. Like in the title avoid avoid avoid

How wrong could we be! walked in and told they were only serving carvery, this was fine we had small children so meant we could get our food quickly. Carvery was empty! so we had to wait for it all to be topped up, but then to be told it was topped up but no roast potatoes. i went up anyway to get the childrens food and said we would pop back when the potatoes are ready for ours. Having tasted the childrens dinners were decided not to bother, all veg was under cooked, the potatoes tasted of fat and the yorkshire puddings soggy and awful, it was terrible. Even the children didnt each much of it. We paid for them 2 meals and left never to return again.

Terrible service, we waited 50 minutes between starter and main (even though we only ordered burgers) and I am certain it only arrived because I went to the desk to enquire. The food was not worth with the wait.. burger served on the cheapest bun imaginable, both my husband and the gentleman on the next table left their greasy bread, not great considering the price. We ordered onion rings for side which arrived anaemic and on a saucer when we had virtually finished our meal...bear in mind the restaurant was not busy having only four tables seated. All in all if you want terrible service, below par burgers and vinegary potatoes masquerading as patatas bravas this is your place. Hugely overrated and extremely disappointing

After pre booking our food for our meal I thought the service would be speedy and everything would be correct. My starter of halloumi was barely cooked and the courgette was raw and bitter. Then my veggie burger main course was not good at all. The burger was a frozen one anyone could get from a supermarket, it was very dry. My sweet potato fries were swimming in grease and were very soggy. I asked about a pineapple chilli relish that was supposed to come with the meal but was told the order for it hadn't come in. I assumed this also must have been the case with the Parmesan, ciabatta bread and beer other members of the party ordered and didn't get. To say it was a Friday night and we had already told them what food we wanted, they were not prepared at all. I was extremely disappointed, as were other people at the table. And unfortunately I will not be returning. However, the servers were polite and friendly the whole night, I couldn't fault them.

The side plate stuck to the table when we tried to move it. Cutlery was dirty could have done with a polish. Food was bad, oily and tasted very bland. My husband went up to pay and waitress was sat in bar (on break maybe?) on her phone and didn't notice us and there was no other member of staff in sight so had to interrupt her to pay our bill. Went up to the carvery station and the food was Luke warm Yorkshire puddings were cheap ones from farm foods. All of this costs us nearly £25. Wish we had gone to Mcdonalds. Like the first Coco making basic food look good with branding but behind the brand its still over priced ego hyped basic food.Plates you find Iceland doing on a party menu with a real Ale to make it cooool... yeh most of us who have tried for business meeting or with partners at our Business come up with the same feedback, do they think real Ale makes it cool? It doesn't make it cool, another ego burning marketing fad.Now we have a Bistro lets now design Ale, lets design Pubs.... instead of concentrating on what people want more "good food".As a Brand if you did deeper its also a rip off and would not stand up in a city because there are to many competitors that would expose it for what it is. Over ambitious move out of town, little big for its boots, thinks it is something it is not sadly. If you here some say try Coco its a alert they wouldn't know good food if it smacked them in the dial or have no choice being Chesterfield has never stood up well with independent restaurants and users go for convenience.

Coco is best enjoyed when you are in no rush, want to savour great food and relax. We have dined here with many friends over the year so far and cannot recommend it highly enough. The portions are well presented and very generous. You will not leave hungry.Advisable to book at weekends, especially Friday and Saturday nights as the popularity is growing and sadly (for those who have enjoyed this gem for a year or more) it will not be long until there is a waiting list of a week or more for a table.

The restaurant was cold, there was a log fire but no heat was being generated. Apologies from the young man who told us we had to wait for menus as the chef was deciding what to prepare! Three of the four chairs around our table had ripped seats. Limited choice when photocopied menues arrived, poor presentation, veg not trimmed, stalks still on beans, slug holes in roast potatoes. Having visited several times up until 1 year ago we have found the service and standards have dropped significantly. The steak and ale pie's were cubes of chewy meat in a very salty gravy served in individual ramekins with an almost uncooked pastry lid. The potato and veg accompanyments and gravy boat were good but I was unable to eat the pie and my partner ate only half of his. No alternative was offered but one of the young staff said we could have something complimentary but didn't state what. I ordered a dessert with another member of staff and explained I will have it complimentary but was charged for it on the bill. The bar staff member was quick to deduct it off the bill without a fuss. There was a children's party in the main room which seemed to be the cause of our long wait for food. The table next to us wasnt cleared at all whilst we were there either. Such a shame as we visited at least once a month up until about two years ago and was hoping for even better as it looked like it had a revamp. Unfortunately it was better before with its rustic charm. Also where we were seated in a smaller recess it was very cold and drafty next to the (closed) patio doors on a cold day. Previously there had always been a couple of open fires but neither were on. The draft actually made the card wine list on the table move so I put my coat on half way through to keep warm.

This is not the first time we have visited Coco at Hardstoft and after the last time and the review I have added on here we unfortunately decided to give them the benefit of the doubt and try one last time as its so near home:What a mistake! The debacle started in November when I rang to book for the 19th December for both my husband and sons birthday celebration meals with the rest of our family. The booking was taken and all was well. I then received a phone call to say could they send us menus by email to ensure the meals would be served in a timely way and that due to the busy period they would be assured they would have our requirements met. Two attached emails were duly received and we chose our meals and emailed this back to the manager. I then received an email back from them to say there had been a mix up and actually they would only be serving from the set Christmas choice menu and the person that had chosen from the ordinary menu would have her choice met by the chef but they would not be able to serve the chocolate cupcake dessert but if we wanted a chocolate dessert they could provide brownies: I thought this odd (they could have gone to Tesco to buy the chocolates cupcake dessert!!) but went with the cupcake option. We arrived 5 minutes early: No atmosphere as per usual from our last visits and hardly buzzing with Christmas cheer: We asked what fruit beers they had at the bar and the young man just waved his hand dismissively at the bar sign for fruit Cider - He obviously didn't know the difference between beer and cider! We were shown to our table very quickly and the starters arrived; My soup was just Lukewarm, the pigeon starters were very poorly presented but the worst of all was my sons crab and prawn cocktail - It looked shocking, served in a cereal bowl and basically a bowl of salad with the crab and prawn cocktail sauce just dollops on the top - It really did look like someone just couldn't be bothered or had absolutely no idea how to present food. There was nothing decorating the table to make you think it was Christmas. As the table was cleared my son saw a caterpillar fall from his plate (picture below) - This was it for us as we all then felt quite sick and wanted to leave. We called the Waiter across to look at the caterpillar - He said that can't be right and went into the back of the restaurant: he came then and picked it up with a serviette. There was no manager apparent and no one in any authority it seemed who came to us to say anything. We then stood up to leave: A young waitress asked if there was anything they could do!

Visited CoCo @The Shoulder at Hardstoft, for a 60th Birthday meal. We arrived with some trepidation, as there are some scathing reviews....we need have had no such concerns. Opinions are clearly a personal thing, however I wonder whether some of the reviewers of CoCo have even visited the establishment. This is a restaurant that has a bar, NOT a pub which serves meals, so should be judged as such. I was part of a party of 12, who took the time to ensure that our expectations of this special celebration were met. We had sight of the menus before visiting and were therefore able to give the restaurant staff a "heads up" on our preferred meal choices. We were given a table in a quiet part of the restaurant complete with a wonderful open log fire. Our variety of starters were delivered promptly and were all without exception totally up to expectation. The staff were particularly friendly without being intrusive and totally focused on providing an excellent service. The main courses were cooked to perfection and delivered such that all 12 meals arrived pretty much together, including the 3 child portions, which were matched to the children's preferences. Everyone should ensure that they make choices from the dessert menu, as the options were particularly enjoyable. Before making judgement, reviewers could perhaps consider that large, diverse orders take time, when cooked to order and therefore any perceived lengthy wait should be accepted with good grace. Our experience today, was that the very short wait was worthwhile. There were two very inconsequential minor glitches, which did not justify any sort of criticism or complaint, however we were given a not inconsiderable discount which was far more than reasonable. It would not have mattered if this action had not occurred. We will most certainly be revisiting CoCo @The Shoulder and look forward to once again experiencing the wonderful hospitality. Merry Christmas!!

Went for Sunday lunch on 30th November and will most certainly not be going again. We didn't mind the long wait for our table,as we hadn't booked, but the wait became ridiculous when we finally got to our table. The waitress took our drinks order, then promptly forgot to bring them. Then when the food finally arrived it was very cold. I asked for some extra gravy to warm it up and instead of offering to warm my food, they obliged with the gravy! The staff could see I wasn't happy,so proceeded to ignore us totally. We had to go to the counter to pay and when the young girl asked if everything was ok,I said no. To which she choked out a 'sorry'and nothing else!Shocking service. I suggest you get some experienced staff who can actually be bothered to deal with any issues. Shall not be going back and certainly won't recommend it to anyone.

Great atmosphere and love the real fire. I will be going back for sure ASAP. Wish this was my local!!!!!

Hubby and me decided to call last night at around 6pm after visiting friends near by...Shown to a table and given a menu and placed a drinks order. Rose wine was heaven in a glass, best I've tasted in long time! So full marks there but for £5.95 for a small glass it should of been. I ordered Brie and bacon burger and hubby had the sirloin steak, hubby don't like mushrooms or tomato so asked for these to be swapped for a fried egg. Food arrived around 20 mins later which is good! Waitress asked us if we needed anything so we placed another drinks order and asked for salt and vinegar and also some mayo...the drinks arrived after hubby had eaten his meal (around 15mins later ) and still no sign of our condiments! Pointed this out to be told sorry I had forgot! To late by then..the fried egg that hubby received was absolutely shocking my 11 year old son cooks better ones, totally burnt on the underside. The burger I had was delicious until I got to the middle, it was red/pink in the middle Upon the waiter clearing our plates we was asked if everything was okay which we told and showed him the egg and raw burger...his reply was sorry and that was it! Off he went with out another word! By this point I was getting ready to blow my top so hubby went to pay the bill. No offer of an apology or a discount. Needless to say we would not come back here if the food and wine was free. If you have never been here don't bother save your money and go to the other one in Chesterfield! Oh and I do have photos of our poor food but for some reason it not let me upload them!

Read the reviews before booking but I always prefer to decide for myself by trying places.this is a simply decorated, classy bistro with friendly attentive staff and huge portions of tasty food.as a newbie to eating steak the waiter kindly listened to my odd way of describing how I wanted it cooking without laughing! When my dinner arrived the portions were huge and I struggled to finish but the sweet potato fries were gorgeous.theres always a little room for pudding though so I managed to squeeze in apple crumble and ice cream served in a little casserole pot on slate - very stylish! If you want somewhere comfy with a roaring fire to enjoy an intimate dinner at decent prices then trust me and ignore the negative reviews and see for yourself.i can only assume the venue has read the previous reviews and acted on them as I thoroughly enjoyed my visit and will return

I have been to Coco in Chesterfield on numerous occasions and never had a bad experience, so my friend and I decided to try here for a change. To say it was Friday night it was not very busy which sounded warning bells immediately. We ordered 5 Tapas dishes and then had to wait 40 minutes for them to be served when there were only 2 other people in the dining area. The dishes were then very average. We were asked if we wanted to see the dessert menu but when it was presented there were only 2 items plus ice cream!! we were surprised to say the least and needless to say we didn't order anything. Two couples then arrived and one man proceeded to behave in a very strange manner, swearing and constantly walking about inside and outside, this was very disconcerting and very distracting - in my opinion the staff should have asked him to leave.Due to the situation and disruption we were eventually given 20% off the bill and a voucher to use again but I would not go there again I would stick to Coco in town

I went here 2 nights on the trot as I was staying up the road. The first night there was only me eating and it took 45 mins for my meal to arrive with apologies from the chef personally (not quite sure what the problem was). The meal was ok hence the 3 star review. I had steak. After my disastrous first night I nearly decided to go elsewhere but as it was convenient I tried again. This time my meal came promptly and the food (steak again) was delicious and would definitely recommend the sweet potato chips!! This place is very nicely done out & the staff were very welcoming & helpful. If I was to visit the area again I would still try here despite my first night. I do think however that the menu needs to be a little more varied there was only one pasta dish.

Every so often we get together with some old work friends. This time it was our turn to arrange the meal. So after looking up places in town and also having already been to quote a few. We decided to give coco a try.I was a little apprehensive based on previous reviews but you have to give it a try and form your own opinion. So here's how the night went...Drinks and service were excellent before we were shown to our table so that's a great start...The starters - we decided to pick 5 for £20 and share them between the 6 of us, and we were not disappointed they were lovely. The main courses 4 of us had steaks all of different stages of cooking and all were cooked to perfection!I had the bbq pulled pork topped steak burger and it was indeed very yummy. All of these came with chips and salad which were all perfect. 1 of the ladies in the group had sea bass and this is the only down side of the night it was just slightly small it looked more like mackerel than sea bass - but she did say it was very tasty. Desserts - they had run out of cheesecakes but the restaurant did have several big parties in on the night so I guess that's reasonable. We had chocolate brownies and they were great. All in all the only bad element and why I didn't give 5 stars is because the sea bass being small. I would recommend people give this place a try - the staff and service we received was very welcoming and friendly. They did there best not to have you waiting too long between courses even though they were busy.!! We shall be attending again anyway.

This is a local pub/restaurant to us. Visited twice before - visit 1: was ok - visit 2: service not great and food not bad - Visit 3: tonight-ordered Tapas for sharing after being told a list of 5 menu items that were not available; this is Friday night at 7.15pm! Not a full menu on one of the busiest nights of the week? Poor - the 5 tapas were not sufficient for 2 people and for £20 I thought this quite pricey - 2nd drinks orders 'forgotten' and dessert was half a small wine glass of mousse for £4.95: all in all then £39 for not very much at all in a place devoid of atmosphere. Had a good laugh with the 2 couples at the table next to ours who had an even longer list of items missing from the menu and had been waiting for their meal for well over half an hour when we left and the party who had arrived 20 minutes after them were receiving their starters! We offered them an order to be sent up to them from out local chippy! Oh yes and worth noting that the two meatballs we had on our platter for sharing were raw! We told 2 different waiting staff who both said 'oh, sorry' in a very unconvincing way and walked on. Won't go back but feel it's such a shame as the place could do well and be really nice if managed correctly.

Booked here for an old friend's get together. Luckily, for Coco's I didn't want to make a scene but had the occasion not been so special I would have complained. We arrived and were offered the option of being seated at our table or going to the bar area. We went into the bar which was empty apart from an employee sat on the next table eating. The tv was on which added little to the ambience. The waitress came and told us what was not available from the menu. This was a lengthy list which I'm not sure how she expected us to remember. We were eventually seated and ordered. Food was cold when it arrived. It was of very average quality. The other customers (which weren't many) had left by 9.15pm and the background music was turned off. This meant that the place was lacking all atmosphere.I went outside to ring for my lift as the signal was poor inside and saw perhaps 8/10 employees in their black tops congregated in the bar area laughing, playing about on phones. I wouldn't chose to go there again. Poorly run, lacking atmosphere and over staffed.

The 2 rump steaks and a bottle of house wine for £29.95 deal is good value. The steaks were cooked exactly as ordered, were tender, juicy and had a delicious flavour - we enjoyed. On the other hand, I feel that, generally, the prices are overly ambitious, e.g. a bottle of house wine at £17.95 or a glass of Pinot Grigio and a pint of Lager at £9.95! This place is a pub, admittedly with revamped decor, that has prices more suited to upscale dining at a restaurant. Perhaps the owners should decide if it's a "restaurant with rooms" or a "country pub with rooms" . At the time of our visit the pricing and the offer were at odds.

Our booking was for 7.30pm, on arrival we ordered drinks and sat on the chairs while reading the menu'sA member of staff gave us a very thorough run down of what we couldn't have!! as the menu is limited anyway, to have it shortened by poor stock control is unacceptable. While we were waiting I went to the bar to get more drinks, the ladies wanted gin and tonic, to which I was told we could have them, but in pint glasses as "we don't have any more clean glasses", I said fine as we could pour them into our existing ones, when the bartended put them on the bar, I pointed out that the size of the glass wasn't as greater a concern as the 3 lipstick marks on the rim and the general filth all over it, he apologised for this as he "hadn't noticed!" I returned to our table to fetch the existing glasses which were then washed and hand dried with a tea-towel before being handed back to me.Upon ordering our food the waiter then returned to tell us that some of our already limited options, weren't in fact available as they had also run out of those, bear in mind this is 7.30 on a Saturday!Myself and the other guy in our group ordered the brie and bacon topped burger, when they were finally delivered we were given stilton burgers! at this point I was getting a general feel for the futility or raising the issue and decided to just eat it, to be fair the food was ok.When we ordered dessert it was the same affair, a brief list of what we couldn't have!at this point the staff were milling around in the bar area, as no one else was in the restaurant it was clear they wanted to leave and we were somewhat inconveniencing them!We then decided to order coffee while waiting for a taxi, I went to the bar and asked for 3 Irish coffees and one tia maria coffee, the response was "irish coffee, whats in that mate?!"After a brief explanation I returned to our table to be told, you guessed it, "we don't have any Irish Whisky or Tia Maria"To be fair, at this point I had given up and could actually see the funny side of all this, so I went to the bar to order a final round of drinks.ok, to the management, you have an understandable policy of employing young people, but young people need training and direction, you are clearly giving your staff neither of these, they simply don't have a clue what is expected of them.I travel all over the british isles with work and have stayed in all manner of restaurant hotels, I take no pride in saying the worst service I have ever received is in my home town! You need to address this and quickly

We both chose ribs, they were tasty, sticky, and served with homemade coleslaw, could have been larger for 4.50.We also struggled with mains, burgers, steak, or 4 alternative option, lamb chops, tuna, etc.I had Stilton burger, crumbly soft meat, with large slice of stilton placed on top, cheese would have been better melted, the bun crust was very hard, and difficult to eat, suggest they change them, so i eat the burger and left the bun.At 9.95 ok in price, and is served with homemade chips, and a couple of lettuce leaves.staff were pleasant, service good, but only people their!Overhall nice atmospheric restaurant, suggsst menu could be better!

We've been to the Shoulder in each of its reincarnations over the last 15 years. As it's local and we pass it daily, it's always in consideration. We waited for the change to Coco (which is pretty good in Chesterfield) to settle down, primarily, based on the reviews, to give the service a chance to improve. We went midweek with two friends, for a Steak night offer. As we were the only diners, there can be no comments about service. Food was average, but not exceptional. Each previous time we have gone, it has been a case of "never again!" Memories are beginning to fade: the Italian restaurant with the bizarre interior decor, the Maitress d' at the carvery (her fag ash dropping into the beef as she served), then the last incarnation with poor service and cold food...Will we be back this time? Probably yes, but only when we don't want to drive further afield.

OK we live locally and had heard good and bad about Cocos so decided to give it a try for ourselves. We went for Saturday evening meal and found the place very quiet on arrival (but it was busy when we left). Now first impressions are everything and we were not greeted or made welcome on arrival. The head waiter instead kept his head down while he sorted someone's bill, when he could have glanced up and and at least said hello, before having a long and pointless argument with the barman in front of us about a drinks order... After around 5 very awkward minutes, he blamed his lack of civility on the till playing-up and we were shown to our seats. The place has been nicely done-up in a black and while theme, but a few minor repairs are needed already. (My seat base was torn and the adjacent brick wall pattern wallpaper was peeling off in the alcove). Pace of service was about right, but I personally prefer smart and polite where staff are concerned! Both the head waiter and barman need teaching how to address customers at the table. The food was nicely presented and was good, rather than great in my opinion and that of my 2 companions. My glass was empty half an hour before we finished eating, but there were no follow-on drinks orders being taken at any table. We opted to return home for pudding and further drinks... Had the service been better, we would have spent another £15-£20 between us on puddings and drinks. With the Hardwick Inn doing it much better nearby, I am not sure we will be back.

Had a nice meal however: drinks were slow arriving and we weren't offered a dessert menu or Bill (it seemed we had been forgotten!) it wasn't busy and there seemed plenty of staff so really don't know how! We were offered 10% off the dessert price when we caught the waiters eye which was an attempt to make amends - the 45p saved (10% off one dessert only) made little difference tbh! Anyway overall a decent meal and generally decent surroundings

Really a let down. Wasn’t worth coming. Had a meal in the cafe and feel robbed. Wasn’t worth the price paid. £21 for two mini breakfasts, charged extra for toast and a pot of tea. Not to mention by the time you have got through there stupid ordering and queuing system to pay it’s cold! I really won’t be returning here!

Came to Bolsover for the day on my wife's birthday to have a pub lunch and to visit the castle. Having read the positive reviews we went straight to the Blue Bell. Walking into the beer garden at about 11.50 we saw that the view on a good day would be spectacular. Unfortunately the weather was bad so in order to eat inside we went to the door marked ‘Entrance’ which was locked. I checked on line and saw the opening time was 12 am (??)  so we waited. A few minutes after 12 the back door opened and we entered only to be told there was no food (no reason given). Although there was a sign at the bar, a notice outside would have saved time being wasted. Fortunately there are other places to eat so we went elsewhere.
