Staff very friendly and approachable. Attended Christmas event. DJ was good and enough room to practice some dance moves. Hog roast cob was awesome and the salad was fresh and full of flavour. Overall the experience was positive. Didn't like the layout of the venue and the lane up to the House is awful with pot holes galore.

We married here last year and the venue and staff were perfect. It’s always a worry when choosing a wedding venue but based on our experience I would recommend cockliffe house to all. The staff were fantastic, friendly, helpful and really entered into the spirit of the day. The food was beautiful and served with style, our rooms were clean and comfortable and the breakfast the next day lovely. We had originally arranged drinks outside but the weather didn’t play ball and things were moved indoors and out seamlessly. Thank you for such a wonderful day!

We had our wedding here last month and I cannot sing their praises enough! From the initial walk around, to the actual day itself we cannot fault it. I sent a few questions over in the week running up to the wedding and all where sorted quickly. The food was amazing, even better than on the tasting evening that we went to a few months before. The accommodation was just perfect and the room where we got married was so lovely, with views out on to the pretty gardens. We had a guest list of 52 and it felt just right size wise for everyone. Not too big or too small. All our guests were made to feel welcome and I felt we were in capable hands with the staff. I would like to give an extra shout out to Sasha who we liaised with via zoom in the weeks before the wedding. She was amazing!! Truly great at her job, she personally made me feel at ease and when I realised I had a make up mark on my dress, she took care of it and I really felt that all would be fine ( and it was ) She checked in on me and the bridesmaids, brought us drinks, etc and explained what was happening and when. THANK YOU SO MUCH SASHA!!! I would really recommend Cockcliffe as a venue. I just wish we could do the whole day over again!

Had our beautiful wedding day here last month and it couldn’t have been more perfect! The staff were so professional, helpful, friendly and prepared for everything… we didn’t have to worry about a thing! All of the rooms had new carpets and were newly decorated and looked even nicer than when we first visited. The grounds were just lovely for our outdoor games and photo opportunities. Loved the layout of the venue with lots of different sections to make use of as well as lots of outdoor space. Ceremony room was beautiful and intimate. Food was exceptional. We had several comments from guests saying it’s the best wedding food they’ve ever had. Location was spot on with easy transport links and not too far out of Nottingham. Plenty of parking available and rooms for guests all with en suite. Would definitely recommend this as a venue for your wedding if you’re looking.

Looked around with a view to a wedding venue must first say staff were excellent. on this occasion it wasn't for us though. one or two things didn't mesh with what we wanted first impressions are of a well used location that could do with a bit of tlc carpets in both bridal suits were stained in one the 4 poster bed was coming apart on the base toilet seats in a couple of the apartments were chipped. thought it was just me being overly critical but bearing in mind there's a damage deposit having a looked at a few other venues on a similar cost Cockliffe could do with a little maintenance to put a bit more of a finish on it

We attended a wedding there last weekend and stayed over night. The negatives are that not enough places were set for breakfast, even though it was precooked, then breakfast came out different to ordered, our chalet floor had spill stains not mopped and there was no welcome pack to explain heating or breakfast times etc etc. But aside from that it is a beautiful venue, the staff were friendly and stayed professional under pressure, and to the guest, the whole wedding ran smoothly. Our bed and main room was clean and warm with plenty. The kettle might want a little notice to keep the spout facing out from the mirror as the steam is damaging the frame. Thank you for a lovely event and visit.

Although we have given it 4s - 4 and a half would be more accurate. Went for Sunday lunch. It was good and have already recommended it. Tucked away - hidden from passing traffic: so it's very quiet and perhaps not easily found. Plenty of parking rural location. Separate bar and impressively spacious wedding facilities. Criticisms: more toast with your excellent pate please, online menus perhaps a little too "cheffy". All in all - go for a morning coffee and book an enjoyable meal!

Stayed for one night in an Executive room, a Christmas present from our children . As you can see from the pictures this is most definitely not what I would expect from a 4 star hotel. I have given the manager plenty of time to address the problem and was offered a free night as a good will gesture. Why on earth he would think I would want to spend another night in this hotel is beyond me. I asked to speak to the CEO and was told that there wasn't one! I have been refused a refund and although I don't like to give bad reviews on social media, I feel the manager has given me no choice.Stains on the sofa, wind blowing through the window and unpainted. Mould in the bathroom, holes under the toilet seat. I could go on very very disappointing. On a positive note the breakfast was excellent.

Organising a funeral is never easy and especially when in an area you don’t know. I had very little time to arrange things and with people flying in from all over it was tricky to find a hotel local to the burial ground with good food and rooms. 11 of us arrived on a Monday night, staff were fabulous. Niala and her colleague were amazing, we were a big group and a little noisy, but they accommodated us for dinner and kept the bar going. There was only one other table for dinner, so I’m sure the chef appreciated having some hungry people to feed. The following morning on check out, prior to going to the funeral, I was asked about the extra room I’d reserved. Unfortunately I had reserved an extra room and then forgotten I’d done so, with a huge amount of emotion and stress that comes with the lose of a sibling, I just completely forgot. I was charged the full amount, as per their cancellation policy. I understand the policy and why there is one. I just thought under the circumstances they could have even offered me a small discount. The food is magnificent, the rooms are great, the staff that looked after us in the evening were brilliant. Super setting. Although basic and slightly dated, it was clean, friendly and pretty. It just left me with a real bitter taste in my mouth prior to going to my sister burial. The added expense I can’t afford, just made my even more distressed. It possibly could have been handled better. Would have rated them 5 stars but the way I was charged the full fee was a bit mean especially as I’d filled their hotel, Resturant and bar up on a Monday night. The chef needs more acknowledgment.

It is such a shame that we were the only people in the restaurant for Sunday lunch as it was one of the best Sunday lunches we have had in a very long time. The food was of very good quality, hot and plentiful. Compliments to the chef. There was a wedding fayre taking place on Sunday and there were lots of people looking around, several of which came into the restaurant for a look around whilst we were eating but i don't suppose that could be helped. And as we were the only ones in the restaurant with no background music there was no atmosphere. So I would encourage more people to go which would resolve this instantly.

Just had lunch here. Driving up to the Hotel - the setting is pretty in rolling countryside. Food was mostly good but let down by undissolved gelatin in the Chocolate mousse (they did sort a new dessert which was lovely) and the poor ambience. Lighting was dodgy in the dining room - the bulbs flickered so much one party had to move. The staff member serving our table did not know the menu so had to go to the chef to answer questions, took ages to get a cushion for my wife and seemed not to understand basic instructions like a request for tap water. I can see it could be a great place but I doubt we will return.

This is a lovely location and an unexpected - you may think you are going down the wrong road (esp at night) but keep going. The hotel is mid renovation which is worth knowing (esp if you wanted a lie in, as they are building a new function room) That aside, the food was excellent and the service, nothing too much trouble, It is a tired hotel waiting to be regenerated but it is a great character and potential. I am pleased to say, it seems speaking to staff that it is not another hotel waiting to be made into a boutique but that that they want to work with the character and bring it back to life. I look forward to another visit and to see how it progresses. My only comment is that if people are made aware of the renovations, they can make a choice of alternative venues and expectations can be managed.

We attended a wedding here 2 weeks ago and the hotel was a lovely venue for their wonderful day. The setting was cosy, the staff were excellent, and the rooms used for the wedding were just perfect. The wedding party had the use of the whole hotel including all the rooms, and this made it a perfect setting for the family and friends. The food was very nice indeed, with a very good selection for all the guests. The bride has decorated the venue with her own unique touches. The room where the marriage ceremony took place was made magical by the bridal party with amazing dried flowers, hand painted decorations and quirky twists to celebrate their day. Later the same room was transformed into a dancing area, and there was plenty of room for all the guests, whether they wanted to dance, chat at the bar, or wander around the lovely grounds. A truly lovely wedding.

All that said, the food was excellent - there wasn't a vast array of choices on the menu and we all ended up ordering the same main course - but it was one of the best steaks I've eaten in a while...everyone's steak was cooked just as they asked for it to be, which isn't always the case, and the steak was so tender - they clearly have an excellent butcher too.

We went to Cockcliffe Hotel on a Tuesday lunch time for mine & my husbands birthdays with 2 friends. The place is clean but quite shoddy & run down & in need of a lot of tlc. We arrived at 12.30 for a pre booked lunch. There was no one on reception but we only waited a few minutes before a young lady appeared & seated us in the restaurant which was empty at that point. She was very attentive; taking coats, bringing menus, etc. After reading on review sites that people had enjoyed set lunch menus we were disappointed to discover that there was only the a la carte menu available, and not a lot of choice on that. We didn't have starters as, of the 4 choices, there was nothing we fancied. There was 4 or 5 choices of main meal & our chosen mains arrived after about 15-20 minutes, by which time 2 more couples had arrived & been seated. I had salmon, the other 3 in our party had the chicken pie. There were no vegetables or potatoes with the pies, these had to be purchased separately for £2.50 each. My salmon came with a selection of veggies & potatoes. All the food was delicious: hot, perfectly cooked & served and, although there didn't appear to be much on the plates containing the pies, (which were home made & full of filling, and came in individual dishes) there was enough for my companions together with the extra dishes of fries they had ordered. Had they been big eaters they would have needed to order dishes of vegetables as well. None of us fancied the poor selection of sweets that were on offer. Overall for the 4 of us for a 1 course meal, bottle of wine & 2 beers we paid £65.0. Although we all enjoyed what we had, I won't be returning until the place has been decorated & the menu has a better choice so unfortunately I couldn't recommend Cockcliffe Hotel at present.

This is a very fine building and the gardens are very pretty. I only visited to have a look but we were made very welcome and will probably go back when we have a suitable event to celebrate.

The Cockcliffe Hotel is a really quirky. Each room has their own distinctive style. My colleagues and I stayed here for a meeting and it was lovely. The food was amazing, the portions were extremely generous. I understand the baked cheesecake was fantastic but I was too full from the 3 course lunch to try it! The staff were very helpful and always available when we needed them. Do give the Cockcliffe Hotel a try, you won't be disappointed.

Hired this hotel for a professional development event for 9 colleagues. It was the perfect size and setting for us. We all enjoyed the distinctive and comfortable rooms. The staff fed us with excellent pastries, cakes and three-course hot buffet lunches (with some lovely puddings). The three course evening meal was delicious and beautifully presented. All the staff were always on hand and very helpful.

Great value lunch in December - 3 courses and a large glass of wine for under £15. The cheese board was exceptionally good. I was a little bemused and disappointed that i could not take my cheese home with me as i was too full to finish eating it and i was declined a doggy bag.

Really enjoyed the three course meal.Attended early evening on the 22/12/2015.I would rate the starter and desert as 5 out of 5 and the main as 4 out of 5.My food choices were caramelised onion and goats cheese tart, sea bass followed by chocolate Torte with rasberries. All the dishes were full of flavour ,i have rated the seabass as only 4 out of 5 as did not enjoy this quite as much as the other courses.
Service and food excellant,we attended the restaurant at the same time of year the previous year and found it equally enjoyable. At £25 for 3 courses i think its good value when you consider the quality of the food , the excellant service and ambience in the restuarant. We will definately be returning

2nd time here, this time for the lunch menu. 3 courses and complimentary wine for £12.95. Even if it had been awful, at that price who cares? As with the first time I went food was stunning. Each course clearly cooked fresh, was full of flavour and perfection. Not usually a fan of bread and butter pudding, but this was light and fluffy with a beautifully creamy custard. The salmon, and beef was perfect, and full of flavour, as were the seasonal vegetables. Choices of complimentary wine, not just the one. What's not to love???

Was in the area so thought we would try the lunchtime special menu. Very good value 2 courses £9.95 three courses £12.95. Beautiful day so sat outside. Service was good for the first two courses then no one came to take our main course plates away. After half an hour we went to find someone and ordered the dessert. Neary didn't bother after waiting all that time but well worth it the dessert was excellent but because of the length of time waiting did not stop for coffee.

absolutely awful food and useless staff! EVERYTHING is to much trouble had to wait 2 hours all together for ONE YES ONE afternoon tea! the afternoon tea was terrible the bread was stale and rock hard! bird poo on the table and never once did the waitress offer to wipe it when it was very visible! waitress put her hand round the top of the glass when putting our drinks down leaving greasy finger marks on the glasses! even sitting outside was a problem when the resturante was empty, so there again the waitress had to go and ask the manager which took 10 minutes to ask whether we could sit outside when there was tables there for the resturante?? does that even make one bit of sense?? and every single time we needed something just the simplest thing she replied "let me just ask the chef"! i would not waste your money on this place even the manager didnt care when we complained and just asked us whether she wanted to take more sandwiches home.... stale sandwiches! spend your money elsewhere or stay at home! the most awful meal ive had and would NEVER EVER go there again!

I arrived at this pleasant looking hotel to be greeted by young happy to help staff. I was taken to a nice sized room with a comfy bed jacuzzi bath and nice sofa area. In the room they delivered and small plate of chilled fruit that on a warm day was pleasantly refreshing. I went down to the bar for a snack and enjoyed every mouthful of the pulled pork topped burger. This is a surprisingly good excellent value for money hotel.

Afternoon tea, not as advertised, we were told it was a blueberry muffin, no blueberries manager asked the kitchen and they took the bag from the freezer to show him, it had Red bits inside? & from frozen, the chocolate brownie was not a brownie more like a cheesecake off cut, Only 3 sml sandwiches, not freshly made no salad crisps or anything else, We got mini mince pies, should have been treacle tart, I hate mince pies. 1 sml pot of clotted cream for 3 people, Complained to the manger who was useless, he stood there looking dumbfounded then went to the kitchen to ask about it and came back with a lame answer said it was a "seasonal change" It was called the "Winter Warmer afternoon tea" the season is winter...... He stood there looking awkward offered no change of food or no way to help, we sat waiting for a response as he went off to ask more questions. Nothing never heard from him again, asked for the bill got charged full price £12.95 per person, the manger was helping serve a Christmas party and walked past us 3 times and never even acknowledged we were there. Asked the young lady if the owner was there oddly he was out, paid the bill and left. I spent my wedding night at Cockliffe and loved it many years ago, i have been back several times over the years and clearly it is dying a death, the room is grubby with paper coming off the walls and damp marks. I paid my bill of £38.85 and left never to go back again. check the attached photos, I love afternoon tea and this is by far the worst and the fact the manager could not care is mind blowing, he needs sacking.

I had dinner here with three other friends. The waiter was professional and attentive. We had three courses. The first course took almost an hour to arrive and was quite meagre in portion size. The other three courses weren't unpleasant, but I'd expect far better quality for the prices.

It's usually only people with a gripe that leave feedback and those satisfied don't realise the overall negative effect on a business through those who were well satisfied failing to say how well they enjoyed their experience in these reviews.
Without doubt from my experience, this restaurant does not deserve the negativity that I have read. Sure the place would benefit from some money spent on the décor but the warmth of the staff, their service and quality of food does the Cockcliffe proud and I would recommend to anyone.

Stayed here for the weekend with hubby and it is difficult to understand what was going on. The building is shabby but reasonably furnished although a few tables and less slippery chairs in the bar would be useful when you are trying to eat. Didn't use the restaurant in the evening as I thought the prices were rather high, but both nights had bar meals and they were excellent with reasonably sized portions and very tasty. I would have liked to have seen more variety for vegetarians but there was a token dish on the menu. The breakfasts were good with a good choice of cereal, fruit, yoghurt and cooked breakfasts.

We arrived just past 7 O'clock for a booking at 7:30 pm, and no-one was about to welcome us for about 15 minutes. When taking our pre dinner drinks, I ordered Pimms and was asked if I would like a mixer with it, so I had to explain that Pimms came with lemonade, fruit and mint leaves.
We then had a limited choice from the menu and were not informed of the Specials which were available. The wine list was extensive but we were told to choose and they would see if they had it as they were running stock down. The meal was lovely ; but not enough and the price did not reflect this. On receiving our bill, it was incorrect and needed returnng to be checked, all in all we would not recommend this place.
