Good food , friendly stuff but because they been dressed up as normal people no apron or at least tag with the name was hard to recognise who is working there. Nice and clean place.

My friend and I both agree this was genuinely one of the nicest experiences we've had eating out. Staff were extremely friendly, attentive and the overall service was excellent. Cocktails were delicious and a bargain at 2 for £14, we stuck with raspberry daiquiri's 🙌🏼 We both chose the set menu - again BARGAIN for a 3 course meal at only £15.95 per person! We couldn't decide what starter to have - either the chicken tacos or beef koftas, so we each got one and shared. So glad we did because they were both absolutely incredible! Very tasty and flavourful! For our mains, my friend chose the smash burger and I went for the chicken schnitzel. No complaints with either of them, cooked perfectly, taste was amazing and decent portions, my friend didn't want all her chips so gave me some also 😝 For desert we both had the sorbets, my friend having the elderflower and I having the raspberry. Very yummy and the perfect end to the meal. The restaurant was lovely, clean and with plenty of seating. We visited on a Tuesday at 7.30pm so it wasn't as busy as it might be on a weekend but I'd advise booking a table just to be sure not to be disappointed. One thing I love about this restaurant is the 'open kitchen' all the gorgeous smells of the food cooking waft throughout the area and honestly, if you aren't massively hungry when you arrive.. the smell alone with have you eager for your meal to arrive - which you wont have to wait long for, food arrived in good timing, no need to sit wondering where the heck your meal is, also a super cute touch having a candle on the table 😁 This was the first time (for both of us) visiting and it will not be the last. I can't wait to go again! No issue with the service charge being added, it was well deserved! 10 out of 10 from us! 🫶🏼

Tierd family, kids aged 9 and 7 needing a comfortable place to eat. This was ideal, firefly helpful staff. Menu is limited but its enough.

Very happy to have chosen Coal for a meal out to celebrate my daughter's birthday. We brought a cake and the staff members couldn't have been more helpful. Food was excellent. The set menu is a great choice too. The children's menu was unanimously endorsed by the 2 with us. As was the lemonade. Good value. Great food. Lovely, welcoming staff.

Nice place great atmosphere super friendly service and staff. The food was not the best. The burger is dry and small. The appetisers was okay, I would probably come again and try another dish to give it another try.

Nice food, nice place and very friendly staff. We ordered food, it arrived in a timely manner, but unfortunately there was some spice in one of dishes which my wife could not eat, but manager was very nice and changed it free of extra charge.

Stopped here for breakfast and each had the broshie roll deal with coffees etc (Hallumi, BLT & bacon and egg). It was a very good deal and food was very nice (even cripsed the bacon like we asked). Was a little disappointed that a service charge was automatically added to the bill (I feel you should leave a tip if you want and taking your order and bringing out your food should be part of the cost on the menu (just add it to the cost on the menu if you are going to automatically add it on instead of it being a stealth cost)).

I'd give no stars if I could. Chips were good so that possibly deserves a star. We wondered whether we should go to McDonalds or somewhere in Cabot. Oops got that one wrong but everyone makes mistakes. Please don't repeat ours!

COAL hosted us for an amazing Christmas dinner. There were over 100 of us but the evening went very smoothly. The food was amazing, as was the service. We will definitely be back.

Nice atmosphere, perfectly good service and the food was okay - but the menu is a poor shadow of it's former self. I guess increasing costs has forced them to reduce the size of the menu (I remember when they used to have a BBQ ribs, multiple steaks, many more burgers etc). I had the old fashioned cocktail which I remember as being one of the best I have had. It was now just okay! as they have changed the recipe (I think they used to use a cherry liqueur now they just use maraschino cherries). Despite the drop in quality the prices are all the same. Pre COVID It used to be one of the restaurants we would go to as a treat (birthdays etc) - now I would opt for somewhere else that offers a more interesting menu.

In the centre of Cabots Circus, a welcome break from the shops. Great, but slightly limited menu, that being said there is something for everyone. Cocktails were nice but slightly overpriced. Relaxed, informal atmosphere with friendly and accommodating service.

The front of house was extremely rude - my friend and I arrived early (about 10 mins), to which we were told that "if we couldn't name the booking name" then that's it basically. The waitress with the plait was horrible. We weren't served consistently enough despite us paying for bottomless brunch. Won't be going there again. The only decent waiter was the one with the nose piercing.

9 people I booked for 7 of us eat on time, 2 waited way after we all finished mix up with steaks being cooked correctly

I love this place , we visit it every time we are in Bristol , had a full English breakfast yesterday and it was excellent , all cooked to perfection , service was quick and staff very polite , smiley and pleasant 😀 . I will be back again soon 👍👍

Went there last Saturday, had burger from the lunch menu .The service was great, our waitress was Anita who was very polite and helpful. So overall had a great experience!

When we entered Coal Kitchen, we were guided by a very rude server (bearded man) to sit next to the toilet entrance. When requested for a change of table, he moved us with quite a cold response. The chicken tacos were good, although small in portion. However, the Tagine Chicken Wrap was very bland with barely any seasoning or flavour. Wasn't a pleasant experience and won't be going again.

Zsofia was fantastic. Food was incredible. Will visit again very soon!

Went for the set price menu and did worry a little about plate sizes but although perhaps slightly less the size of the normal menu, the starter and main we had was just enough. Unusual ginger beer mocktail but plenty of other drinks on hand. We were well looked after by Zsophia with lots of smiles and checks things were okay.

Lovely food and atmosphere. Zsofia looked after our table beautifully. Will be back again for more Negroni's!!

Red seats were covered in sticky stuff. Even people in other boothe complained about the seating being sticky. So that was rather a turn off. Took away from everything else that was good. What a shame!

This is maybe a harsh review so please read all of it, the food was decent, I had a burger with skin on fries. They have a lunch time deal of £9.50 for this with a drink which really isn't bad for a place/location like that. But what really annoys me is when restaurants add a service charge onto the bill as default. That's not right, either increase your advertised prices or let the customer choose if they want to tip. Edit: We were eating with friends and the overall bill came to about £90 therefore the service charge was around £9. But its more of the principle of selling something at a set price and having the option to leave whatever tip you want to leave. I actually gave the service 1 star as he couldn't even muster up a smile on his face let alone put a smile on ours. If you feel that your staff are worth more money then pay them more and increase your prices but what we are going to get charged for the meal should be clear and upfront.

Overpriced, small portions disappointing overall. Beef skewers that were supposed to be pink on the inside were cooked through and were tough as a boot and had lost all flavour. Chips and side salad were ok but nothing special. Staff was friendly and helpful however it was really disappointing to find afterwards that a 10% tip was added to the bill without our consent.

Not sure why so many negative reviews, our experience today was exceptionally good all round - late afternoon on a Saturday. Ordered a couple of mains between us - steak skewer and the pork chop. Was a slight mix up with the lack of potatoes with the pork (one of a few dishes that comes with the side as standard so can see why it happened) but was rectified very swiftly by the waitress. The service was great, really unhurried and relaxed which was nice instead of the usual high turnover at most places on a busy Saturday afternoon - it was a nice oasis of calm at the end of a shopping trip in Bristol before heading home. Pork chop was amazingly good, tender, juicy and perfectly cooked. The mini roast potatoes - well seasoned, hot and delicious. Even the side of green beans there was plenty of - enough for two people I would say but again cooked just right and maintaining some bite to them with just a nice touch of seasoning. The star for me was the peppercorn sauce - certainly one of the better ones I have had at a restaurant and couldn't get enough of it! All in all, a great experience, lovely attentive staff, unrushed dining experience and delicious food. Will be back!

Really nice place, just walked in and got a table, 2 course meal was about £14 each which wasn't bad, food was quick, varied tasty . Latte wasn't great , lemonade was good. Convient location in Cabot circus.

We came for drinks before heading elsewhere, ended up coming back for more drinks afterwards. The staff was very accommodating and let us stay slightly longer. We'll definitely be back.

Came in with 6 people for bottomless brunch. Amazing members of staff took good care of us, we were all very happy with the experience. Lovely waiter was very attentive and came over frequently to get us new cocktails. Very good staff, and great professional service

I'm giving 3 Stars because the staff was very nice, great service! However the food is just not it....the design of the menu card looks great so you kinda expect some modern and fresh food but it was really underwhelming. Plus the portions are tiny...the kitche really needs to step up it's game! All in all I payed around £30 for a glass of wine, a starter, main and side dish.

Good point staff were very friendly. Food average. Beef kofta tiny and overpowered by raw red pepper. Steak ok. Cocktail god awful. Salt rim was cheap table salt made cocktail difficult to drink (but did for £9 price tag). Will not rush back.

Where do I start.. the ‘chicken tenders’ are just 3 little bits of chicken on a stick; the surprise is that ours came out raw. The salmon was swimming in a pool of oil oh and another surprise, it was raw in the middle. The prawns were questionable and based on the chicken and salmon, they were probably raw. My partner ordered the chicken pitta with over cooked chicken and burnt pita; salad tasted like it had been sat out all day. Service was average.. best part was having the bill cleared and leaving. Slice of lemon in the water was a nice touch *sense the sarcasm* Won’t be visiting again.

Eaten here before, but never a breakfast. Me and my wife both went for the full english. The menu makes it clear the produce is local and boasts about the farms they are from. This was surprising for a chain restaurant in a busy shopping centre. The service was very quick, no long wait for the breakfasts. It was probably one of the best breakfasts in a cafe/restaurant i have ever had. Sausage was the best, bacon was great, poached eggs cooked to perfection. And for less than a tenner each. I will certainly be returning in the future.

Food was not great, very small portions and then to top it off they added a 10% service charge to our bill! Just another way of the company getting more money out of you without telling you, would not go there again or recommend it.

Visited this so called restaurant last evening, it was minus one outside and warmer than the temperature in the restaurant, the quality of food was poor, had the lamb steak, it was overcooked sat on cubed potatoes swimming in lamb fat, but the service was very good, its never worth what they charge

My partner and I used to come here for breakfast quite a bit and have had no problems in the past, on our last visit we were handed a breakfast menu and were told half the meals weren't available. I ended up ordering the full breakfast, what arrived would have looked more at home served on a saucer! Along with the missing items the rest of the portion size was laughably small, if I was the waiter I would have been embarrassed to take this to a table! I know everyone is trying to cut costs at the moment but this was beyond ridiculous.

Can't fault food or service, but they've taken away the comfy sofas and installed a tv, which changes the whole relaxed vibe of the place. We always relaxed in the bar and then usually decided to eat. May nor be our default place any more...really sad. If its not broke why fix it. New tables in bar area are tacky too.

Food is overpriced and is below average , like I ordered a salmon plate for £13, I had a small tiny portion of salmon, next to a very small plate with kebab style salad, that's it, who puts kebab style salad with pickled chilli next to grilled salmon? Ordered humus for starter and it tasted like Supermarket humus, drinks come in a thin tall glass with loads of ice, so amount of drink in the glass is very small. Other order on the table was half a grilled chicken for £12, again with nothing but a small plate of kebab style salad. Staff were friendly, but overall I don't think I'll be returning. The place has no identity, random food thrown onto a plate.

Not been before but certainly want to visit again. A really good experience.

Food was ok but not incredible. I had the shoulder of lamb and it was a little dry, a little underflavoured and the entire dish consisted of a small piece of lamb atop some chopped up new potatoes and diced olives. Would have been nice to see some form of sauce or something to liven it up a little. I reckon £15 for a piece of lamb and a couple of potatoes is on the steep side. Corn on the cob was also a little dry and a touch burnt rather than seared. The chocolate fondant just tasted like a standard catering brownie with a weird flavoured gelato. Overall the food wasn't bad but it wasn't anything special. I had a main, side and drink which came to £30 and I think it was a meal that should really have been £20-£25
