We have been going to this great restaurant for years but today was disappointing. The portions were small but very expensive. The drinks costs was outrageous. The maths as far as the bill is concerned needs some work. My tip of so called 10 % was completely wrong. The service however was good but not its usual high standard as we were never offered bread rolls and felt a little underwhelmed. It’s a real shame for such a great restaurant

Had a meal tonight at Coach House in Ruxley Garden Centre Friday 10th Nov.... food was quite bland to be really honest... Vegetables and Steaks not seasoned at all and Wife had the Duck which was totally over cooked and so dry ... I asked for a mixed grill and they said they would do me Lamb Culet/Ribeye Mixed Grill but failed to mention that they would be charging me for x2 Main Meals at £53.90... we was also given bread as we started our meal which they called covers... which included 1/2 of a piece of bread each = £7.20 so £1.80 for 1/2 a piece of bread.each... a whole slice of bread would cost you £1.80... so if you bought a full loaf of bread based on x14 slices a loaf it would have cost you £25.20 a loaf 🤣😅 We was told Vegetables came with the meal but was charged £22 we then had Irish Coffees to finish and they was £10 50 each = £42... and then an optional service charge was added to our bill of £43.80... leaving us a grand total bill of £394.40 for a meal for 4 people in an Italian Restaurant in Kent in a Garden Centre.... it's cheaper to eat up London. They also offered other tables a complementary drink at the end but left us off their favourites list, and considering we hadn't been there before doesn't make us want to rush back any time soon.... overall... below average bland food, average service with daylight robbery prices.... 😢 have they not heard the rumour ... cost of living has gone up but come on... 😡

So so disappointed with this restaurant one of the worst meals I have had in years and the bill was an absolute shock. Let's begin...tables were very close together, being bumped all night. Offered half a slice of bread but we were not told there was a cover charge..it worked out to be £1.80 for half a slice!!!! My starter of asparagus was nearly cold with the tiniest bit of butter. The other starters seemed OK (there were 4 of us). Then the mains came...when we ordered we were told they came with vegetables (not telling us that there was a charge for them) 2 duck mains...dry and tasteless...had cherry sauce...non existent. Hubby asked for a mini mixed grill...two lamb chops and a small steak. The other steak my friend had was ok ish. Then the vegetables came up...4 small sautéed potatoes, 1 piece of cauliflower each...so bland looked like it had just come out of the saucepan. My friend and i had the cheese and biscuits which was very nice. with 4 irish coffes. BIG SHOCK the bill came to £395.00. Will never visit this restaurant again. To be honest the staff were nice tho. Not a good experience. The 2 bottles of wine merlot were good. 61.00 for two bottles.

It had been 7 years since I last visited this restaurant following what had been a very bad experience one Christmas. We decided to give it another try and booked for a mid-week birthday meal. On arrival we were greeted and remembered by the head waiter and shown to our table. The menu had changed very little (if at all) since our last visit, but that was not an issue as it had been so long since our last visit. We started with the mushrooms and fillet beef in red wine and chilli, and the avocado, mozzarella and tomato, my only complaint was the sliced mushrooms far out numbered the strips of fillet beef. For main courses we opted for the skate wing and fillet steak, these came with a variety of fresh vegetables and sautéed potatoes. The main courses were both served hot, were well presented and very tasty. Overall, the meal was okay but not exceptional, the wine expensive, and they must be one of the few restaurants that still charge a cover charge for the roll and butter. Price wise expensive, but I was not surprised.

Terrible all round. Over an hour to get starters. Failed to bring the bottle of still water requested. Moved us from our original table (next to toilets). to the bar area and didn’t notice the lack of crockery on the table (insufficient bread plates). Poor service and a total lack of customer awareness (other customers coming in after us and getting served before us). My wife had Fillet of Sea Bass, complete with bones, soggy fish implying being cooked from frozen. Vegetable selection poor and appearance bland and unappetising. Messed up the steak orders (well done, medium) giving the wrong steaks to those that had ordered. Service charge £40, laughable. We overheard other customers complaining. Will never, ever go back - life is too short and there are so many better places to eat

Eaten here many times over the past thirty years, including my parents 40th wedding anniversary when 20 of us ate, but what a disappointment last evening. Avacado, salmon and prawn starter had no taste. Skate wing had a very strong smell and taste of ammonia and dessert selection being very poor elected not to have one. Such a shame as the desserts are generally good. Coffee was weak and tasted cheap. At no time we’re we asked about the skate which was returned virtually as it came out. The vegetable selection consisted of two pieces of carrot each, four French beans, one piece each of broccoli and cauliflower, again needed seasoning. Always expensive in here but when good you don’t mind paying for it, this however was not the case and feel this is one restaurant off our list.

Went today with my fiancee. As an Italian living in UK, I struggle finding proper Italian food, cooked the right way. I found service was very friendly, attentive and welcoming, like the traditional Italian restaurants in my country (a table cloth not just paper napkins). Atmosphere was authentic too and relaxing, you can talk to your partner without loud music or screaming kids around. Food was very well prepared and tasty: they serve dishes not easy to find at other Italian restaurants in UK, we had funghi all'emiliana, swordfish and saltimbocca alla romana, all excellent. Tiramisu was too dry, and I gave feedback to one of the waiters (all of them nice, smiley and attentive). Yes it is pricey, but quality is expensive in UK. I recommend (especially if you go visit Ruxley garden centre nearby) and will surely return.

Ate here on a Saturday lunchtime with my wife and parents. The welcome was warm and we were swiftly shown to our table. We were given the menus but no wine list. Asked for the wine list which was given to us on the second time of asking after waiting 5-10 minutes. The waiter then seemed a little irritated that I asked again. Ordered the food and waited in eager anticipation. My crab and prawn was a little sparse but my wife's salmon looked good as did my dad's mussels in white wine sauce. I then opted for the fillet steak medallions while my wife went for the halibut and my parents both went for the stroganoff. We each had a side of vegetables. To say the veg was lacking was an understatement. Half a dozen slices of sautéed potatoes, 3-4 green beans, a floret of broccoli and a floret of cauliflower each at £5.20 a portion. Please!!! On a more positive note the food was OK with the halibut nicely cooked. Ended on a nice dessert of millefeuille which I will admit was plentiful. Overall the service was very erratic, portions variable and generally over-priced which was a huge shame.

They are all elderly men which made their patronising attitude to one of our party, a lady of 90, even more puzzling and offensive. We won't be back.

Went for an early dinner. Was told on arrival that table would be needed back in two hours - even though we had booked.Positives:Massive menu selection and all the food was lovely although quite expensive.Neutral : staff friendly, although a tad pushy and were unimpressed when my wife wanted diet coke after trying to push her into wine or sparkling.Negatives: The restaurant needs to be more transparent with charges. £3.60 for olives that were on the table - which we didn't ask for or eat and two bread rolls. Embarrassing- that should come in with the price of the meal - the rolls must cost 20p max. Also charged £10 for two sides of vegetables which consisted of two florets of cauliflower and broccoli, and two spoonfuls of green beans and potatoes. Again this should not be an extra. Also 5 of the 10 cold starters had avocado in - far too many. The decor is very quaint and tired.Such a shame - as the food is good, but let down by the greed of the restaurant and pricing.

We went to the Coach House to celebrate my husband's birthday last Tuesday. As usual we had a wonderful meal and fantastic service. Yes, it's not cheap, so we save it for special occasions, but it is always worth it.My husband said his filet steak was 'the best' he has had, and we eat out a fair bit. My meal was delicious as always, very generous portions, on very hot plates.A table of 7 had 3 waiters doing the silver service of their meals and vegetables. The atmosphere was great and we are always given a very warm welcome.

This restaurant appears to have been given some critical reviews but I can't understand why. We were visiting my sister who lives in the area and who has always enjoyed her meals at the Coach House, and I'm right behind her on that. The Coach House has an old fashioned atmosphere and we felt very welcome in the place, which is family run and where the staff obviously enjoy their work. The service was very attentive but not obtrusive, and while others have mentioned that it might be a little too swift, I've no complaints on that front, particularly since my previous review of a restaurant a lot nearer home focused strongly on the fifty minutes it took to serve a burger. There was a dish of very good, fat olives on the table and we were offered rolls and bread sticks from a basket. True, no one mentioned that these were not included in the cost of the food (if indeed that is the case). Maybe we were charged for the carafe of water too - but I don't think so.We each ordered a different main course (no starters as my sister had warned us that portions were generous, and the sweet trolley was clearly visible) and we were served very quickly. I had entrecôte steak and the others had calf's liver (cooked perfectly) and veal. All of us pronounced the food marvellous and the portions were more than large enough for the two ladies. There was an extensive wine list and I floated the boat a little for a very good bottle of Montepulciano d'Abruzzo, which my wife and I shared, my sister being the driver! Sauté potatoes and vegetables were served with the main courses. Our plates were cleared quickly after we finished and we were given a few minutes before being offered our choice from the sweet trolley. I was torn between the chocolate cake and the profiteroles, and the latter won. The waiter must have sensed my enthusiasm for them and piled my plate, but they were light enough not to sink me without trace. My sister enjoyed her poached pears in red wine sauce and my wife could not resist the lemon tart, a favourite of hers. All of us said yes to cream ...My wife and I were impressed when our espresso coffees arrived in heated cups. It's little touches like these which make all the difference, and little touches abounded in this restaurant.I have to admit that I didn't look through the bill item by item and I couldn't say for certain whether the stories of extras being piled on to the bill without being requested are correct. All I can say is that the number at the bottom didn't come as a surprise, and I would gladly pay the same again (roughly £50 per head including a good bottle of wine) for a meal of this quality with great service and in a cosy environment.

From the moment my wife and I entered the restaurant we were greeted by a lovely waitress then taken to our seats and welcomed by a waiter who was very pleasant. The venue is quaint and full of character. The starters (grilled sardines and king prawns) mains (spaghetti carbonara and beef lasagne) and desserts (canolli) were divine and I felt like I was on holiday in Italy again. This restaurant is in a class above the rest. Highly recommend!

We lived in Sidcup for years and frequented this restaurant very regularly. We though it great. Service spot on, and friendly staff. Prices a little high though. Then ten years ago we moved away, but came back from time to time if we had a celebration. Then last week it was my husband's 75th Birthday. We decided to go back to the restaurant we had loved. There were just the two of us. We hadn't been back for about five years, but what a shock! I didn't recognise any of the staff except one.Maybe the restaurant had changed hands in that time, we don't know. The Maitre 'D' we can only describe as surly. We were shown to our table and given the usual bread rolls and drinks. Then a long wait for our starter order to be taken... 25 minutes. Our booking was for 12.30, and about 12.45 more people came into the restaurant. These were obviously regulars, as there was a lot of hand shaking and chat.It seemed we were forgotten. My husband had to leave his seat and ask for our starter to be taken. The starter was good, but The main meal was -in our opinion not as good as we remembered. My Lemon sole was dry.We saw the sweet trolley, and even this didn't have the variety it once had.We abstained from the trolley and refused coffee. We were glad to leave. What a sad end to a once exceptional restaurant.

The food is lovely, comes out fast (almost a bit too fast tbh) and the ambience is good. The staff are friendly and service is good albeit a little pushy. One gets the sense they want to turn the tables over even if the restaurant is not full. I will go back again.

The food was very nice and worth the money. However, the extras are not included like, bread & olives and at the cost of the starters you\d expect this to be. Was recommended this restaurant by family and was very shocked as the place is rammed packed with as many tables as could possibly fit, ruining the ambience and peacefulness making the meal not as enjoyable. Very noisy, staff rushing about and bashing into each other. Had the sweet trolley parked next to our table for the majority of the night and nothing is covered. My mother in law had several near misses of being covered in plates of vegetables and was knocked several times on the arm from waiters rushing by not very nice for an 83 year old. Will not be visiting again for these reasons but did notice there are many regulars to this establishment, as I said the food could not be faltered.

Booked this for my mother and father-in-law's 50th anniversary for 14 people. I was extremely disapointed as i have been fortunate to eat all over the world and I have never be priveliged to have the 14 starters served 10 mins after ordering, I was so disapointed. I ordered the entrcote pepercorn steak medium and it was the texture and consistancy of a fipflop my partner had the chicken and this was boiled, the side order of veg was just thrown on the plate by the staff. I wouldn't recommend the sweet trolley as this was by the door not covered where every one was walking past all night and who knows what germs were transfered to the deserts in the time we were there. It was such a shame as we were looking forward to this night but I think the food ruined the evening for all of us.I should also mention that four of our party were children and two were young adults so six of us were not drinking alcohol. We were only at the restaurant for 2 hours as the meals were served so quickly. Not exactly the relaxed atmosphere we expected. The bill came in at £765 which per head we could have eaten 5* in Mayfair not a Garden Centre in Ruxley with sub standard food and the atmosphere of a restaurant straight out of the 70's.

First visit for lunch. Cosy looking place. Lots of choice on the menu. Staff very welcoming and friendly. Went straight for mains and ordered drinks. Spaghetti with clams was tasty. Lots of it. The fish also looked very nice. Dessert trolley is a lovely idea. Fudge cake was very light and went down well. A really nice lunch. Would happily return.

Here is a restaurant that many locals just don't realise exists. Situated in a corner of a local garden centre car park, it occupies a listed building way off the main road. Having last been there many years ago, I was taken for lunch recently and was pleasantly surprised to find that the quality of the cooking (and especially the range of fish available) had not changed. Food is just excellent, and it's good to be presented with a fish section in the menu listing the range available, but then to be given the choice of how you want it prepared. I had bacon-wrapped scallops followed by the skate, which was perfectly cooked with noisette butter and capers. Portions are not small by any means but prices (including the wine list) are relatively high. Even so, it's well worth splashing out occasionally to make use of this local gem.

We had a great meal, lots of choice who would think a good restaurant could be hidden in a garden centre. There were hot or cold starters and portion sizes are generous. The mains were perfect we all enjoyed our choices. How can they do such a wide menu. We also endulged in the desert trolley. Not cheap but really tasty and will go back again

Visited last night with 5 friends. I'm a regular at the sister resturant Du Amichi in Chislehurst and visit Coach House only a few times a year. As usual great food and hearty size portions. However, evening was spoilt because they refused to serve the crapes we had gone for. The explanation sounded reasonable, that the resturant was too busy. However 15 minutes later they made them for another table near us - that hurt more than the £80 a head bill for the 3 courses, half bottle of wine & coffee.

Having been to this restaurant a few times before, I or my friends never realised there is an upstairs! We felt the ambience much better than downstairs and our Portuguese waiter and the lady working upstairs were spot on with service and friendliness. There were six of us dining and we all thoroughly enjoyed our choices of food. We also all agreed that the service was exceptional. Would highly recommend this restaurant and ask to sit upstairs

First time visit, were taken out of the main entrance, up what looked like a fire exit metal stairs. We were shown to our table, waiters were friendly but had the radio on listening to the evening news, had to ask them to turn it off and put music on. There were olives and breadsticks on the tables already which we expected to be complementary but NO - we were charged at the end of the meal for them . Meal went well, food was ok , service was good and then the bill came. We were charged over £50 for side vegetables! This was for 6 people and consisted of one florets each of broccoli and one of cauliflower, and a table spoon of potatoes and zucchini. Now I think this is very unreasonable and this is the only way to have any vegetables with your dinner as they are not included in the dishes. Will not recommend this restaurant as their sneaky charges for olives and breadsticks on the table and extortionate vegetable prices are a complete rip off!
