One of Chepstow's finest pub. A lovely roast beef Sunday lunch beautifully presented and supported by an excellent pint.

Halfway meeting point to meet my son, had lunch here... Quiet in the pub, so no atmosphere but the service was spot on, as was the food... Good honest food at excellent value... Nice place.

Myself and my autistic son stayed here for the night, and I can honestly say I couldn't fault any of the stay. We received a very warm and friendly welcome, the twin room we booked was just lovely, plenty of room and clean. I've stayed in Chepstow before in a b&b of the same price, which I won't name on here, and this one knocks it out of the park. We had a goujons basket meal, which they made gluten-free for my son. The breakfast was plentiful, and you can see the owners/ people working there will go above and beyond for you to enjoy your stay. I'd definitely book again without hesitation. It made our little break just perfect when visiting this lovely quaint town. Thank you 😊

We stopped here yesterday for lunch after visiting the castle and had a lovely meal. The staff were very friendly and made us feel so welcome and although the menu doesn’t really cater for a light lunch they did have basket meals which were very good and well priced. Bonus they are also a dog friendly pub. Would happily stop here again for food and drinks.

We had a wonderful night thanks to the good beds, coffee and tea in the room and an excellent shower. What made it special was the owner: he was very hospitable and told us about the history of the pub and the local disputes between England and Wales.

Comfortable and I was lucky to get a room as rooms on event weekends fill up very quickly. Amenities were readily available and price for the night is fair and if you add extra includes breakfast £60 without or £70 with breakfast. So can't ask for a better price tbh

Oh Dear... dont be fooled like myself, this is not a place you want to be. Sunday evening, no other place available to run away to. Run down old pub, the smell of the place and the corridor and the room hits you as you move through the place. I slept in my hoody and covered the pillow over with a towel. The bed bugs weren't getting me. In the morning I pulled back the sheet to reveal monthe/yrs of sweat, bodily fluid YUK!!! The plastic plants and flowers thick with dust. Horrible. As I said it was Sunday night nowhere to go. The place closed at 8pm, Chepstow on Sunday closes at 4pm. Nothing to do apart from tough it out. It is Not one of the top 5 places to stay.Landlord and owner in the morning was nice and I feel dreadful giving his place a bad review but customers pay and you deserve the truth. I did mention that I felt the building was oppressive. I think he may have misunderstood. Tea cups and saucers chipped. The whole place is a health hazard. It's a Shame as this place is steeped in history.

Stopped off here with friends in need of a good pub lunch and this place exceeded expectations! A really good menu with lots of options, I had the award-winning pie and mash, and it was excellent. Great dollop of mash too. There were several things I could've gone for and been happy with. Cheesy garlic bread was also lovely. Special mention has to go to the lovely young woman serving yesterday lunchtime for being so professional, yet bright and welcoming at the same time. A definite asset to the place!

The food is v good for the price, the rooms may not be like premier inn but have more character and all the basic facilities. Good location for the town and close (within 1km) of Offa's Dyke path.

I had a good stay here. The bed was small and the bathroom down the hall but it was warm and the host was quite friendly. They let me keep my bike on the back patio overnight.

Resident of the area. Walked past the pub many a time…. Decided to go in for food yesterday didn’t book although it was midday (opening time) A warm welcome awaited us & nothing was to much trouble food was awesome and simply excellent value as in struggled to eat the pie mash & peas in gravy I think this pub gets left out a bit as it’s to the right of the main car park and town is to the left. Please use this as I don’t think you will be disappointed.Well done girls 5 star rating from me a down to earth pub!

My wife and I and two friends were planning to visit Chepstow on a day out and wanted somewhere for lunch. I looked on the Internet and noticed that the Coach and Horses had great reviews. I had a look at the menu and it looked good and was fairly priced so we booked it. Was not disappointed, good range of drinks, the Pedigree was lovely, clear as a bell. All meals were well portioned and really tasty and you were allowed to chop and change mash for chips or rice for chips whatever, they were most obliging and couldn't be more friendly. The landlord couldn't have made us more welcome and and was extremely friendly, amazingly he also lived in Clevedon where our friends are from. I would highly recommend the Coach and Horses, whether for just a drink or a meal, you can't go wrong.

The food is always good. When it was first set up it was shocking but now it is class. The only downside is the staff. They are rude and impatient. I had a delivery and a dominos worker rang me and was shouting at me that the driver was outside my house, why wasnt I there, over and over again. the driver was at the wrong house and I was standing in my porch, not even able to see them. the delivery drivers are lovely, cannot say a bad word about them but the fact the worker shouted at me down the phone that I was ignoring the delivery driver is a put off. if the food was not excellent I would 100% slate this place but its a good meal

Nice little independently owned pub in the village of Mathern. Food is exceptionally nice compared to chain pubs but can take a while to come depending on the size of your party. Outdoor covered patio area offers a dog friendly seating area, also for those who just generally prefer to sit outside, even on a rainy day. The interior of the pub is very presentable, too, and toilets are very clean. One of the best, if not THE best, independent pubs I've eaten at.
