After waiting over an hour for meals we ordered we were told the order had not been passed on to the chef and told that there would be another long delay as they had to complete a big order. No apology, no intent to prioritise our order and we would just have to wait or have a refund. We left and went to the nearest alternative Pub restaurant, the Peacock Inn who although busy were much more obliging. Full marks to the Peacock, zero to the Coach & Horses. Derek Hambleton

Bit disappointed with our Sunday lunch. Lamb shank so tough we had to ask for a steak knife to cut it. It was swimming in gloopy gravy. The accompany dish of veg was the blandest selection I’ve come across. Daughters nut roast was better she said and at least she got roast potatoes. The staff were very busy and even if we had complained I don’t really know what they could have done. The girls on duty were doing their best to serve everybody and clean up. To finish - The coffee was undrinkable and we all left most of it. To be honest we just wanted to pay and leave.

This pub has a great history, not so much a great future, maybe cos of a select group of clientele and their dogs. An aggressive dog greeted us and then continued to 'snot and 'snarl' at all that entered the bar area. As this is a smallish bar which locals and their dogs frequent, this proved to be a very uncomfortable experience. We have a young dog that is socialised and well trained that was on edge constantly due to this large angry dog going at her if she moved. The friends that we were with chose not to bring their dog due to past experiences with said angry dog. The owners simply looked and continued to drink. My husband has been frequenting The Coach for a long time, with happy memories that sadly now have been marred by this experience. Pubs should be for all, not for the select few with poorly behaved dogs. Also as an addendum please sort out your toilets, yuck is understatement.

13 of us arrived at 6.30 and we were greeted with a surprised look even though we booked the table 2 weeks before. I was asked to pre order the food and send it through via email. I sent the email early that morning. We were handed a few menus and it soon became clear they hadn't had our pre order. The waitress said she would go and check if they had the pre order. We then had to ask for a drink at about 6.50 when someone from the bar came over to ask what we wanted. The lady who served us made us feel like we were an inconvenience. When the drinks finally came, I still wasn't sure whether the kitchen had received our pre order. I asked the waitress and she said "Oh yea we've got it". The food came after 7.30. It was around 7.45. We had 5 hungry children in our group and this is why we booked for 6.30 (and pre ordered). The restaurant wasn't busy at all so we were confused why there was such a delay. One of the children knocked over her glass of water and the waitress was asked 3 times for a refill. She didn't get one. At all. Whilst we are talking about drinks, we were not offered another drink after the first one. None of us had a drink with our meal. We asked the waitress for a drink in the end and she said "I'll get someone from the bar". By the time the lady from the bar came, we were about to ask for the bill so we didn't bother. The food was ok but no one checked if it was and we weren't offered any sauce. The vinegar was on the table but it had run out. We were out to remember my dad as it would have been his birthday and even though we had a lovely evening spending time with our family, the service was shocking and we wished we hadn't tried somewhere new. Really disappointed!

Went for sunday lunch and it reflected the pubs aim of being really honest, tasty, home cooked, no frills food. Friendly staff, perhaps a little under staffed on a busy Sunday which meant that service was a little slow and I had to clean my own table as it had been re-set but not wiped clean after the previous occupants and the lack of staff meant it was quicker to do it myself,

We had a thoroughly enjoyable lunch, unhurried and in pleasant surroundings with very friendly staff. I had the gourmet burger with extra cheese and it was huge but not only that it was tasty and freshly made. Each of our party (4) had a different meals and the kitchen managed to get all four ready at the same time so they were all on the table together. Each of us commented on just how good their choice was. The only disappointment was that there was a lack of their own real ales. Having promised myself a couple of pints of Cofton Common it was disappointing to find that they only had one of their own brews on tap, the Icknield Pale Ale. I guess that on a Monday lunchtime they had not been able to restock after a busy weekend. I forced myself to have a couple though and it was a passable alternative. Ivbeen before and I'll be going again. What more can one say.

My wife and I visit the Coach & Horses for lunch, with two friends, every few weeks. We have always had good food and good service until our last visit on 24 July 2023 We both ordered the Fish & Chips for our main course and it arrived fairly promptly. Sadly, we both had to return our meal as the chips on both plates were almost cold. Shortly afterwards, the meals were returned with fresh hot chips. Unfortunately, although my wife's food was fine, my fish was almost inedible. There was almost more batter than fish and the fish itself was grey, dry and overcooked. It appeared that it may have been refried more than once. Having returned the meals already I decided not to do so again. Afterwards I messaged the Coach & Horses both by email and on their website to say how disappointed we were but would not post a damning review as 'anyone can have an off day'. Sadly, I have had no response or acknowledgement - hence this review :( Will we visit again? Time will tell !!

The good was piping hot and delicious. The waitress was a young lady and she took our orders for drinks straight away to drinks as well were seated. She was very attentive. We saw other food coming out to diners and from ours to salads, faggots and peas etc and they all looked very appetising and good portion sizes. We will go back at sometime. Would recommend.

I'm afraid I was a bit disappointed with the food. The website says that the Sunday roasts are cooked from scratch in house. The 2 thin slices of pork did not taste or look as if they had been carved from a roasted joint of pork and I think the mashed potato and the roasters were bought in. Shame, because the service was good, as was the excellent collection of ales.

We went to this pub because we had been before & had a good meal. This time we were confronted with the main access road being closed due to road works but after a chat with the road crew we were let through to our destination. We arrived to find it all but empty, due , no doubt , to the problems with getting through the road works. So we had no trouble finding a table ! I chose the rump steak which duly arrived looking very appetizing. However on tasting it was coated with what I assumed was garlic ( which I abhor ) I questioned the waitress & she assured me it was a mixture of spices but no garlic. My cousin's wife sample it & she said she could taste garlic. So the only solution was to cover the whole thing with brown sauce but I still left a fair bit uneaten . I cannot understand why many chefs, these days, insist on masking the flavour of a perfectly tasty bit of steak with with spice infused oil & garlic. A good meal ruined ! I would point out that my cousin had the fish & chips which he said was excellent

We were not rushed to order and did not wait long for food once we had. Having several young lads whose stomachs never fill, we hoped meals would suffice and were not disappointed. In fact none could quite manage all of it! The food was all brought out at the same time , veg was fresh and meat well cooked. Staff friendly and polite. Could not fault the service or quality of food. Would recommend this venue for any group of people wishing to have a good quality meal in comfortable surroundings. Came here with family for grandads birthday. Service was very slow and we ordered our drinks. Waitress then later came back to take our food order, we ordered 10 meals and we were booked in so the place knew we were coming. Food must've taken over half an hour before it was served. We had two curries that were both served with chips even though we asked for rice. We then asked the waitress why we had chips and she exclaimed that they had ran out of rice however we were not informed of this and would've ordered something different if we knew. We then saw the same waitress take out a curry and we asked why that was with the lady who took our order. She claimed that the owners were the ones who had the curry which is why they got the rice on their plate. We then had a refund for only one of the meals. We then ordered desserts when we had finished, ordered a bunch of things and then about 10 minutes after being ordered, we were then informed that they didnt have any crumble. Desserts were served rather quickly after that and were delicious, a shame that my banofee sundae came with hard, crunchy bananas on top instead of fresh ones as the menu said. Me and my partner both ordered the roast. We had to wait a while before asking a waitress would it be much longer, the young waitress was very nice about it and went to the kitchen. She explained it wouldn’t be much longer, it was nearly an hour before the food came. It was cold, rubbery and very unpleasant. The bar has a roaring log fire, always a bonus, comfortable seating and old tiled floor. The only problem and complaint is, despite a notice telling dog owners to keep their dogs on a lead, this is completely ignored by some less than considerate customers, and the otherwise very nice bar staff, make no effort to implement this rule. It is a shame, it knocks the shine off an otherwise great pub.

Really disappointed with the coach and horses .Our family has had Boxing Day lunch here for 10 years .The staff were dismissive and wanted to put our family on separate tables but did not notify us before hand when we complained they said the decided it that morning .It was sorted in the end unfortunately the service and food was not the standard it used to be .

Came here recently and the restaurant was just about to shut; however because we had a small toddler and an elderly relative with us that struggled to get in, the very kind lady said they would be able to still serve us. The food was lovely too. Will definitely be coming back.

A dead fly was underneath the batter, embedded in the cod!!!! Manager’s response -“these things happen”. NO THESE THINGS DO NOT HAPPEN. DEAD FLIES DO NOT JUST TURN UP IN YOUR FOOD! DISGUSTED.

We were there for lunch. There is a bar area where you can eat and a more formal, spacious restaurant. There is an a la carte menu with meals at various prices and a more limited menu of mains at 7 quid. Service was quick (it was lunchtime) and we had a lasagne and fish and chips off the cheap menu. Both were freshly cooked, very tasty and the chips were like crispy roast potatoes - delicious. We had puds of crumble with custard ( 3 quid) and a chocolate torte with ice cream a fiver I think. They brew beer on the premises and it was excellent. I like this place, the food is good pub food sensibly priced and the beer is great. For us at lesat, service from a middle aged man was excellent.

We arrived for Sunday lunch and were greeted by a lovely gentleman who told us we were sitting in the corner by the window, and made a gesture with his arm towards the seat by the window, to which a very rude waitress aggressively grabbed his arm and went “no they’re not!”. She then explained we were sitting in the ‘pub’ area, well, my father is physically disabled and has dementia, to get to the table my father would have to either get up some steps, or down some steps. We chose to exit the restaurant door and walk round, we then got to the steps that my father had to climb, luckily there was a nice customer who helped him up with his trolley, no staff assistance to be seen anywhere. We walked to the nearest free table and were told “I’m sorry you can’t have this one it’s booked”. (We had booked in advance but informed the restaurant we were going to be late and they said it was fine and we had arrived within the time I had said, you don’t expect them to not have reserved you a table after travelling all the way there). So myself and my parents just stood in the middle of the pub, the staff had left us, luckily this kind couple moved and had to sit on a table with another couple so that we could have something to eat. Rather than have table service we had to order at the bar which is not the level of service I had expected but I was almost glad because I just wanted to get out as quickly as possible. The Sunday lunch itself was quite nice, but I would never go back to this pub. My father is now in a home because of his dementia and doesn’t get to leave because of his physical disabilities and was really looking forward to his outing. I am shocked that a person who’s sole purpose of their job is to give good customer service treated my father with no dignity or respect. It was actually very saddening and I would never go back here again. Oh and funnily enough, the table that was “booked”, nobody sat there in the two hours we were there!

Went here for a team lunch. Table was booked for 1 o'clock, and we pre-ordered the food so we could sit down and eat straight away. Only that's not what happened. Our food didn't even start to come out until 1.55, with one person having to wait a further 10 minutes to get her meal. We had to rush down our food, and then just up and leave. It wasn't as if the order was complicated - 12 of us at the table, 6 of whom had fish and chips. I was told this was mediocre. I had lasagne, and the middle of it was just that - 3 layers of lasagne stuck together, no sauce. The chips were very greasy.

Visited the Coach and horses at Weatheroak yesterday for Sunday lunch. When I phoned prior to our visit (at late notice!) I was told they were fully booked and were very apologetic but sensing my disappointment offered us a table prior to the full opening time at 12 which I gratefully accepted. We had a lovely family lunch, all of us choosing different options. The food and service were excellent only to happy to please and was enjoyed by us all. Thank you!

My better half wrote a review which was not terrible, the 'management' wrote back saying she was a ex member of staff which trust me she is not! We are both 32 and have no need to play silly games! Instead of spending time reading bad reviews why don't you start reading CV's and employ some staff!

Myself and my partner thoroughly enjoyed the evening we spent here in cosy surroundings. We didn't sample the food here, but we were served our drinks by pleasant bar staff and felt welcomed as soon as we arrived. An ideal place if you are in a couple who just want to chat without interruption or disturbance. Like it. A lot.

I hadn't been in years and I was SHOCKED! The carpets were worse than a disused social club with huge stains all over the floor and the general cleanliness was hugely off putting. The toilet was old and smelly and our table was right outside the toilet door.

We come here almost every weekend since, especially during the summer as they have a beer garden, since 6 years. I dont even know why it took me so long to write this review but this lovely and friendly pub serves beautiful food. A winner every single time, starting from their baguettes and ending on main dishes and desserts. Sunday roast is just yummy. They offer kids menu as well which a big plus. All the portions are very generous.Everything is cooked from scratch and only from fresh, locally sourced produce. This place is never a bad choice. You can chose to eat in the pub side or in the restaurant part.

Came to the Coach and Horses Restaurant on the 19/08/18. Ordered Brie & Squid to start, was insanely good, amazing flavours, cooked to perfection, and served with a smile. My friend ordered Pork & I ordered Beef, cheekily asked for crackly which wasn’t a problem for the incredibly accommodating staff. Main arrived, Yorkshire pudding the size of my head, and with plenty cauliflower cheese and vegetables to add to our perfect roast dinners. Dessert, we ordered sticky toffee pudding and chocolate torte, both served incredibly quickly & with AMAZING presentation. On to the service, the 3 front to house waitresses, Harriet, Tash & Charlotte, accommodated our every need, topping us up with prosecco as we we went! Compliments to the Chef Matt & his team, and thank you to all the waitresses and the food runners, especially Sarah!

Stopped here en route to the Wythall Transport Museum which is close by. In an attractive location, the Coach & Horses is a traditional old pub with a quarry tiled floor and real fires, with a modern restaurant extension built onto the side. There are two menus: a main menu and a 'specials' menu, the latter featuring a range of 'value' dishes all priced at £6.99. Dishes on the main menu, which is not overly ambitious, are mostly priced around £10-15. I chose the homemade Chicken & Leek Pie from the main menu, priced at £10.95. It was a very good proper pie, but I would have preferred it served with a selection of fresh seasonal vegetables, rather than chips and peas which were almost certainly frozen ones, even if this would have added an extra pound or so to the price. The best feature of this pub is undoubtedly the ales, from the on-site Weatheroak Hill brewery; about four to choose from, all priced at £3. They also have a few 'outside' ales on offer, although these are a bit more expensive. For me, a pint of their own brewed Icknield Pale Ale went down very nicely on a hot sunny day.

We visited on a Tuesday evening to a pub which has been a favourite of mine since childhood . The location of the pub is fantastic. My two fellow diners ordered off the cheaper menu and I ordered off the main menu. My fellow diners ordered cod and chips and the beef and onion pie and for just over £6.00 each were good value. However my chicken and leek pie at £10.95 was ordinary at best and very over priced. The other main issue was the wait. The pub was no overly busy but we waited 45 minutes for our main courses. The final ssue was the flies in the restaurant of which I appreciate not much can be done but they are still very annoying whilst your eating. Overall I admit to being a bit underwhelmed by the dining experience but it is a beautiful pub in lovely surroundings so it may be just a drink next time.
