My friends and I look forward to our Walk for Health Ramble around Lloyd Park every Monday and then a Tram ride to Croydon and the ClockTower Cafe. We have been using the Cafe for many years now and it is one of the nicest places in dreary old Croydon. The Staff, although always very busy always have time for a chat and are always smiling and friendly. There is usually between five and seven of us and they have never got our orders wrong and the food arrives promptly A large selection of food and teas and coffees and so many many different types of ‘Milk’ We then usually move onto one of the many Pubs in the area or we just stay in the Cafe for a few more teas and coffees A great place to eat and one we all look forward to

Nice clean venue, not much variation on a cooked breakfast, chose the full breakfast minus chips and beans, was offered alternatives and opted for hash browns. With tea and coffee bill came to £22.50. Breakfast arrived minus the sausage, when I told the waitress she said she would get them but would be a couple of minutes.I said the breakfast will be cold so she said stated to eat the breakfast and she will bring the sausage out later, this I refused and she got the hump. Finally breakfast arrived with a sausage attached which was nice however 2 measly dry bits of streaky bacon let it down. For the price disappointing, will not be returning.

I went there this afternoon after my Esol exam at Croydon Library. Some days ago I passed by looked inside and there was just 2three people inside. Today I went in ad had a massive deception. I asked for a fresh orange and beetroot juice and bacon omelette with chips. I paid for my order and informed the lady that I need to go to the toilet and I would be back soon. After 6 minutes a was back and there on the table I had chosen before was my food and drink. The juice was watery, tasteless and the food totally cold. The price £ 9.75. I had paid with gratitude for their work and they gave a rubbish. I believe in karma soon they will feel or will see it.

I have been coming to this library cafe for years. I have had meals, sandwiches, snacks, used self service section and even just had fish and chips on occasions! The fish has always been fresh and very tasty. They are generous with their portions too. Not once did I ever have to complain about anything. I always found the food was cooked to perfection and if you have any preferences they will do it for you. For me it was 'well done chips!' Over the years they have had different chefs and I still enjoyed the meals. Now I am a regular for mainly drinks and I always had tea. I even got them to introduce decaffeinated tea. Since then they have added different flavoured teas etc and I doubt you will not find something that you like. I personally am not a coffee lover, but since I tried their coffee, cappuccino, which is absolutely perfect and tastes lovely, I am now hooked! In my personal opinion the prices here are really no different than anywhere else either. Plus it can't be that bad if regulars, such as myself keep going back. They also do catering for special parties or for regular groups, teas, coffees and biscuits. The cafe has a pleasant ambience, more so when it starts to get busy. The walls are invariably full of Arts and photography etc. Some are by independent photographers like Simon Shaw and John Reeves, who often display their own photographic work, whether it be scenic or abstract. If you have any Art work or photos etc that you wish to exhibit then Simon and John are the two people to see, as they are the organisers. They often have photographic competitions too. What's a better way to spend time having a nice meal or snack and admiring the Art work too, than at Croydon's library cafe? They even have Spring, Summer and Xmas fayres in the terrace part of the cafe, at the back, where the Jazz takes place. The cafe is bright and airy with large glass roof all the way through to the terrace of the cafe. The furniture is mediocre but comfortable enough for a short stay. Finally the manager and the staff of the cafe are always friendly and helpful.

My friend and I visited this cafe on a lovely sunny day after looking for a place to eat in Croydon centre. It has lovely open roof windows, which let in loads of lovely sunlight (when it’s sunny). There is also great artwork displayed around the cafe. The chairs and tables are basic but comfortable. This place was very affordable, it cost just over £10 for a avocado and patched eggs on toast (with added get cheese) meal, iced coffee and a small pastry. Image to see the lovely food. All of it was delicious!! My friend and I said the main meal was one of the best poached eggs and avocado we had. The small pastries were only 85p, but filled with Nutella. I would 100% go back there again. Both staff members we met were also very friendly and helpful.

Went there for a bite but it costs about eighty million pounds for a slice of carrot cake. Also on a Thursday there's free Jazz. Enough said. If you want to spend two hours watching old geezers play every augmented and diminished scale ever conceived then I'm sure it will go with your £20 coffee and flapjack. It's really bright in there too. I like dark corners.

THE CROYDON CLOCK TOWER CAFÉ NEVER FAILS TO PLEASEFor the second time my wife and I went to the Clock Tower Café (which is more like a restaurant) in the centre of Croydon. Obviously, you cannot miss it. It is directly underneath the clock tower of the Town Hall. It is one of the most pleasant café’s you will find in the town. Bathed in sunlight from an all- glass roof that extends over a former courtyard, you are immediately struck when you enter it by lovely flowers at eye level. Looking down, you see uniform round white tables with neat modern mustard and maple-coloured comfortable chairs. They spread out before you like a field of sunflowers. We went down to the self-service bar which has a great array of food and a large display notice on the wall for Fair trade. Around the walls was a fascinating exhibition of digital photographs, mainly of China, by Simon Shaw. There is always an exhibition in here that adds interest to your visit. Everything is self-service. There is plenty of vegetarian food, all freshly prepared. You can get a small hot meals if you’d like one. We decided on just a sandwich each. They came very generously filled with a salad garnish and a good helping of chips which we did not expect. The copy was delicious. We didn’t stay too long because a big school party came in and it became quite noisy. So we went to the modern library next door which you can access without going outside. The staff were very friendly and are always glad to see you. Although it is somewhat hidden away, this café is cosy and spacious and welcoming. You will find it under an archway by the side of the pub in Katharine Street, which is off the High Street. It never fails to please.

Lovely bright and light venue with nice decor, well layed out with good convivial lively atmosphere however let down by food. Chicken breast grilled with tomatoes garlic and butter meal woth cake included. Chicken was overcooked and very dry stringy and chewy. Side salad was wilted and limp and chips were probably at their best an hour before ordered. The cake wasn't the delicious looking gateau displayed on the counter but a wafer thin squashed slice brought up from under the counter. Coffee was good. Overall disappointing, great venue let down by the cooking of what should have been a good and varied menu.

I stopped in for some lunch on Monday (01/08/16) as I had some business at the Croydon Civic offices and had to wait around for my husband to pick me up at 2, I had an hour to Fill along with my tummy. The lady at the offices recommended the cafe as a good place for a "quick snack". Not expecting much I walked up to the canteen to see if I could get a reasonably priced pasta salad or something to keep me going till dinner. I was very tempted by their salads and their choice of made to order food but then I smelt this truly heavenly aroma coming from a very unassuming heating tray right in the centre of the counter. What was in it was a sort of brown and orange mess but It smelt so wonderfull!!! I saw that it was labeled sweet potato and butternut squash curry and it was the vegetarian option, this really is not the kind of food I'm used to and definitely not something I would have for lunch. Their was a Moroccan chicken curry which looked good also (but It didn't smell as amazing). I honestly tried to be sensible but it was just too tempting how could I possibly stomach a smart salad when this smell was hijacking my nostrils and controlling my feet?! Before I knew it I was gleefully asking one of the staff for a hearty portion and already planning an alternative light supper. So enchanted was I that I forgot to even look at the price but couldn't believe my luck when the whole order cost around a fiver! And it was ever such a generous portion, I had it with rice and I must say this was definitely the best curry I've ever ever eaten. The whole thing (like all good curries) broke all the rules but it was Fabulous. It was spicy and fragrant and the texture and flavour was divine!!! I normally avoid spicy food but this was a whole different kettle of fish, from the very first mouthful I could not stop myself devouring the whole thing. As soon as I was done I text messaged my husband to meet me in the cafe and bring his appetite! I shall be stopping in again next month and I really hope they have more wonderful curries. One thing I must say is that it was clear that all the food was fresh and healthy, made from real ingredients in the kitchen just behind and for the quality and clear effort the price, though not the cheapest, was extremely reasonable and you couldn't do better for a working lunch. One point of advice though is that when the sun is out the dining room can get very warm but it was definitely worth the bother and if its too hot they had takeaway containers that seemed very practical. The staff were friendly but clearly very busy and perhaps need to sharpen their attentiveness. All in all though I would walk across hot coals for another plate full of that curry.

The Clock Tower café is a lovely light and airy space serving a range of food - from drinks and snacks to all day breakfasts, salads, baked potatoes Panini's etc. It's counter service - the food is good value - anything cooked to order has arrived without undue delay - and the staff are polite and friendly. With the addition of a regularly changing art display on the walls it's a lovely quiet spot to have a coffee and a sit down and/or something to eat, away from the busy shopping area. Try it and see!

Bad food. Loooong wait both for drinks and food. Waiter (owner I was told) got 2 meals wrong. Brought calamari fritti for my husband and I which he never ordered in his life and I can't stand them as they are like rubber in the UK so would never have ordered that. Waiter insisted I did, not once but 3x! My husband actually asked for whitebait! My husband ordered calf's liver as a main which is soft and succulent in France, Germany and Greec etc. It was thin and like shoe leather. It is supposed to go into a hot pan, then turned over after a few seconds and taken out of pan - served. This is what it should be like "A classic of British cooking, Calf's Liver is succulently tender and fine-grained with a deliciously mild, sweet flavour. More and more people are discovering the delicious flavour of Calf's Liver due to its place on the menus.« I took it home to give to the dog and foxes!! My friend next to me (we were 13) ordered meatballs which were so salty she couldn't eat them. Another lady didn't like how the fish was done. It was mediocre. MY mussels had anorexia. I have photos. They were non existent or if there was one in the shell, it didn't measure more than 5mm. 20 were empty and the sauce was not nice. Obvs they were not fresh mussels, they were cooked already and just heated up. Lots and lots of small broken shells in the sauce. Must have been the last dregs. Just as well I didn't swallow one of the shards. Will I go back? No, I'll go to a real Italian restaurant next time. Bragging about an Italian chef! He needs to go on a cookery course IN ITALY! I lived, ate and cooked there. I know what Italian food is supposed to taste like!!!!! And sooo expensive.

They cook the best skinless cod, away from the seaside, that can be found locally but the CHIPs!!! By the time you sit down to eat them at home, they become dry and shrivelled and there are just so many of them, that we don't have plates big enough. I recommend asking for lots of salt and vinegar in the hope the moisture sweats some plumpness into them while they are wrapped up. The Fish still wins out over the local competition, where some places are still cash only, a disgrace in this day and age.
