The hotel has a good ambiance and comfy seating for a casual drink. We went with family for a prebooked dinner. The Sunday roast was the worst I have ever had tbh. Very little meat, horrid gravy which took the natural flavours of veg away . The Yorkshire puddings were probably made hours before and were so hard you could hardly cut them. Most of the meals were only partially eaten. At £35 a head it was a total rip off. Used to call in there often but won’t be going again

We’ve eaten here many times but this visit was awful. Although the staff are nice the ambience of the restaurant was poor. There was no music playing and it felt like you were eating in a staff canteen. The food was mediocre for what they are charging. What on earth has happened to this once classy restaurant. Such a shame.

We went for an early lunch , hadn’t booked but were given a nice table for 2 in the window Lovely decor and a quiet ambience. Service was reasonable although the waiter forgot to bring wine which had been ordered with the food. And had to be reminded Starter of humous and flatbreads was good Mains were French onion soup and cheese and onion pie The soup was ok but a bit sweet and had to be corrected with salt. Small portion with unimpressive small bread roll The pie was full of medium size cubed potato. With very little cheese and contained stringy indigestible onion (the outer parts that you’d usually throw away) Very disappointing for enormous charge of something like £18 Who puts lumps of potato in cheese and onion pie ?? Nice place. Poor food. High prices Needs much improvement

9 of us visited the restaurant for a family meal to celebrate a birthday, we will not be returning. It is a beautiful hotel and the patio is really lovely but the food was very mediocre, we don’t mind paying for quality food but this was not worth the hefty prices, the chicken and lamb were very dry and bland and the portions were very small. The biggest issue was the service, it was practically none existent! We had to keep asking for drinks that they forgot to bring us, the staff didn’t seem to know what to do! We were celebrating a birthday but there was no acknowledgment of this from anyone! We had taken a cake which they took from us but then didn’t bring out, we had to ask for it back as we were leaving! They couldn’t even make a margarita as they said they didn’t have tequila! We questioned the service charge that had been automatically added (around £50) and basically the waiter was extremely rude and actually said “are you leaving a tip or not?” We were all extremely disappointed with the whole situation and would rather spend our money at venues that make you feel valued.

Sunday lunch. Have been many times before. Disappointed in choice of starters nothing wowing us. Roast dinner was superb as usual. My starter was cold but was rectified straight away. Also main could have been hotter but okay. Most of the young staff are not being trained or supervised. At the end of the day you are supposed to be a top class hotel & restaurant.

Lovely place with super friendly staff. Generally mature clientele, immaculately clean and tidy. We last came on Valentine’s Day and the bar area had a singalong and got shown some dance moves from an energetic 70 plus lady that was as glamorous as you like. Great atmosphere!

We payed £300 to stay in a classic double room for one night, booked 5 months in advance due to Lytham festival being on. We explained upon booking that it was my mums 60th birthday so anything they could do to make it special would be greatly appreciated. We paid £100 deposit a couple of weeks prior and got an email to say that price was changing to £320 per room. This was rectified after a phone call. Upon arriving at the hotel, the parking situation wasn’t ideal. Cars were straddling 2 parking spaces, which obviously isn’t the hotels fault but the receptionist wasn’t at all interested in this issue once I’d notified her. There was no advice given on where else to park, just that they were busy and had a large lunch party in. Classic double rooms are a mixed bag, our room was very small but my mums room was better (after they complained). Hotel rooms are in desperate need of updating. The attitude from management on reception was less than friendly. Nothing was done for my mums 60th (even a small gesture like chocolate on a plate would have been sufficient). I understand that the prices inflate due to the festival being on but £320 for a classic room, without guaranteed parking is absolutely outrageous for the quality of the hotel. One good point is the lady that served us for our meal was fantastic, very friendly and highly comical. Unfortunately, I would not recommended this hotel to stay but I would recommend it for a bite to eat or a drink.

We had a lovely recent stay at the hotel. The food quality throughout was high quality and we particularly enjoyed dinner. The hotel is in a lovely location overlooking the sea and the facilities are excellent, particularly the restaurant and bar area. The staff were the highlight during our visit and were all very freindly and professional throughout our stay. If we were being ultra criticial we didnt feel the bedroom decor matched the standard of the rest of the hotel but it was still very nice and clean. When we mentioned this to reception they did advise that refurbishment work of the bedrooms was currently being done which was nice to hear. Look forward to a return visit.

Booked for a late lunch, having dined here previously. We were advised when we arrived that service would be slow as there were minimal kitchen staff in, which we accepted. However one starter arrived and was eaten before the other started appeared. We then waited 50 minutes for our main course, with one further apology and to be told the kitchen staff had been paid the day before and "gone on a bender" so hadn't turned up for work. We ordered dessert, but after another 45 minutes - and nearly 3 hrs after arriving for lunch - we gave up and asked to cancel our dessert and asked for the bill. Overall a disappointing experience as we had looked forward to time together to celebrate our anniversary.

The service was excellent, all staff were friendly and attentive but the club sandwiches we ordered were made with poor quality pre-packed cooked sliced chicken and bacon. Far too much bread and very little filling. The toasted sliced bread was basic and dry. Not at all enjoyable. The fries were better. Not quite the lunch experience we hoped for. Could easily be so much better with a bit of imagination.

Unbelievably expensive drinks now . My elderly relatives regularly visit and have always had a very pleasant time. But their last experience was very off putting. They ordered a glass of beer and a medium rose wine. The bill was £19.50. Beer £3.50. Medium rose wine £16.50. Maybe there are cheaper options but be aware of what you are ordering as they did not have a drinks menu and were unaware until served. It’s put them off what use to be a favourite trip out.

Went for lunch and had a fish finger sandwich and Caesar salad sandwich with fries and chunky chips. Both were really delicious and filling. The youngish waiting staff on the terrace were really friendly and helpful. Lauren and a young lad both seemed happy to be serving and keen to help. It was a pleasure to sit on the terrace in the sun. What a shame then that the older chap with an accent who initially greeted us in the restaurant was so grumpy. He really didn’t seem to want us there, even though we’d booked and it wasn’t busy. He asked if we wanted the menu for inside or outside. We said we wanted to sit outside. Yes but do you want this menu or that menu he said, jabbing at two closed menus. Er, I don’t know, depends what’s on them really? Tell you what, we’ll take this one and then come back if we need any more help. Harrumph OK, says he. We did end up going back - for a wine list as we hadn’t been provided with one - and he took the opportunity to say “that’s what I said!” even though we weren’t asking for the other menu at all. But it made us laugh more than spoil our lovely relaxed and delicious meal. Highly recommended.

We had our vow renewal celebrations at the Clifton Arms on June 5th and it was absolutely amazing!! We did our ceremony at the wedding Chapel and the headed to the hotel. We were greeted by a lovely lady (I can’t remember her name unfortunately) but she was so so lovely. We were a little stressed as our daughter was upset in the car ride to the hotel and the photographer was stuck in traffic which meant we couldn’t get the arrival photos we had hoped for, the lovely lady that was waiting for us made us feel so at ease. She handed us (and our family) a glass of bubbly and asked if there is anything at all she can do. We decided to carry on with the photos when the photographer arrived. The lady took us to the talbot suite where we had canapés and more bubbles. The staff were so attentive and friendly and nothing at all was too much trouble and this carried on the entire day. A few hiccups that we encountered (nothing that the hotel had done) the staff were on hand to help in any way they possibly could. The food was delicious, the drinks were amazing. There was a gentleman serving us all day and he was absolutely amazing!! He made our day even more special, he looked after us all so well. I cannot thank this lovely hotel enough for all that they did and Chelsea for bringing our wishes to life and answering all my 100s of questions in the run up to the renewal. We also had family stay at the hotel and they said that everything was perfect!! Thanks again. The hotel will always hold a special place in our hearts. <3 x

A disappointing meal. Most of the food was only warm on arrival. I think it had been waiting in the kitchen or elsewhere as I had gone in to complain about the delay. It arrived moments later! It took an hour from ordering our meal and after starters. The waiting staff could not have been nicer and offered to change the meal. However, I could not afford more time. I doubt we will go again. The meal? Fillet Steak. Their constant excuse was that they were busy! One unhappy customer.

The hotel itself is a beautiful building and the decor is tasteful and up market. Our room (116) did not have the best view but it was a good size and very comfortable. There is a kettle in the room with tea, coffee, milk, sugar, and biscuits. Soap, shampoo, and shower gel are provided. Staff are welcoming and chatty. Breakfast was plentiful but fried egg and hash brown were very oily. The hotel is well located - just over the road from the sea front and behind the hotel is the town centre with shops, cafes, pubs, and restaurants. Within a 10 minute walk is Lytham Hall which is well worth exploring. The cafe and garden shop is a great place to visit too.

Our visit was for a birthday celebration. The staff were indifferent (apart from the lady who has been working in the restaurant for many years). We were seated next to a door that frequently opened automatically, blasting us with cold air. Our chosen meal was delivered incomplete, lacking the dressing included on the menu. After requesting the dressing, we were provided with two tiny and inadequate jugs of it between three of us. We were eventually given an adequate amount of dressing for our superfood salad which was mostly made up of quinoa... and thoroughly underwhelming. Our concerns were addressed with a reduced bill, though that didn't, in any way, make up for the disappointment of the experience. Despite patronising this restaurant for more than 20 years, that was my last visit.

Booked a table for eight and travelled from Manchester for lunch and a walk around the town. Arrived on time and were asked if we wanted drinks - we did but getting them was something else. 45 minutes later they arrived. Starters? add another 45 minutes. We asked for something to eat in the meantime and were provided with stale crisps, some olives and - bizarrely a plate of chips! The starters eventually arrived and presentation and taste were laughable - although the price wasn't. The main followed - 3 steak frites ordered - they only had one steak! Burgers at £15 a pop were incinerated and returned and the ham on a substituted sandwich was like a piece of plastic. The salads were passable as was the fish and chips. We didn't risk a dessert. We did have two rounds of complementary drinks and an apology and I'm guessing there had been some kitchen disaster but if told we could have gone to one of the smaller restaurants in the centre which were well frequented and looked inviting. If you enjoy Fawlty Towers then give it a try - otherwise steer well clear.

Sadly cannot comment on food or drink, as we left before either arrived. We had booked in advance, on arrival we were given the choice of 3 tables, table chosen, we sat, ordered drinks then food.Whilst waiting for these to arrive a couple asked to go onto the terrace, the doors were opened and locked open so they could go out, possibly wouldn’t have been a problem on a pleasant evening, but whilst it was comfortably warm, it was quite breezy out, consequently quite a draft was blowing directly on our table, the waiter opening the doors appeared oblivious to our discomfort. We mentioned the locked open door to our waitress, who suggested we move table!, offered choice of 2 tables, and left us to decide, fine!, not quite the service you expect though. Both of these table were still in the draft!, by which time we really didn’t want to spend what would have been a significant amount of money, in excess of £1100 for 2, to sit in a cold drafty spot, we advised the waitress to cancel our order, whose only response was, oh, we left. Will we return, NO, not if this is the standard of care/service given.Consideration should have been given to diners, not just those wishing to go onto the terrace, especially when another terrace could be accessed via the front entrance, without causing discomfort to other patrons.

I booked online telling the restaurant it was a special occasion meal and requested a table on the terrace. When we arrived all dressed up, there was no record of our booking even though I had received a confirmation email. The waiter said’ ‘ oh that’s because you booked online’ which surprised me because if they don’t know you’ve booked then what’s the point of having online booking? Needless to say it was therefore a very clinical process and not at all celebratory for us so I was quite disappointed. We initially received a glass of Champagne and shortly afterwards we were asked if we wanted tea or coffee and ordered tea. After a further short period our afternoon tea arrived and although the sandwiches were small they were very tasty. As usual the rest was scones, cake and a dessert and all were very nice even those we took home. My only observation is that it would be better nowadays to include more savoury items and less cake or at least offer this option.

We have stayed at this superb hotel on a number of occasions recently and on every occasion our expectations have been surpassed. The bedrooms are large and airy. The lounge and restaurant spacious. The staff are happy, friendly, well trained and attentive. The food is superb and the overall atmosphere excellent. I can not recommend more highly we will definitely be back at the earliest opportunity.

As a family member was staying at the hotel for the weekend, we ate several meals in the restaurant and bar. It was all very good. We especially enjoyed Sunday lunch, which was actually very good value at £25 for three courses, coffee and mints, in the beautiful restaurant overlooking Lytham Green. We also had some of the bar food on another occasion, and the sandwiches were simple but fresh and tasty. The staff were very accommodating and friendly.

This is a lovely seadside hotel set right on the sea. Our visit started in the bar (whwre else?) where we had drinks and very tasty club sandwiches. When we got to our room, we were a little disappointed because the room was cold (the radiators had been turned off). Also although there was plenty of space in the room, the walls of the sitting area looked a little bit sparse and could have benefitted from a picture or two. It's also not a good idea generally to cover up radiators with big curtains!

This is the second year our club have visited the Clifton Arms for our Christmas lunch. Catering for 60/70 people is not easy and with 2 other functions going on at the same time, a daunting task. The staff were wonderful, service very good and the food excellent. Thanks to all for a lovely meal . We will be back again next year.

As a family we have been having numerous celebrations at the hotel and have found the whole experience to be first class. On the 30th December it was our 50th Wedding Anniversary and we celebrated with 20 friends and family having a 3 course meal in The Clifton Suite. All I can say is that the whole day was amazing. Every member of staff who we came across went above and beyond to make the day special. The food was of the highest standard and the service was outstanding. Can we particularly mention Gareth Marcus and Rob, their attention to detail made the day more pleasurable and we would highly recommend your hotel to anyone

After a walk around Fairhaven Lake I called in for a quiet light lunch in the bar. The menu was soup and sandwiches. I had the smoked salmon sandwich, which came with a small salad and a small bowl of crisps. Beautifully presented with almost no wait, complete with knife and fork and linen napkin. I sat in the bay window looking at the Green and the Estuary. A large espresso served with three delicious shortbread biscuits followed. A most enjoyable hour.

The Clifton hasn’t changed in years. Very traditional with a reputation of polite and efficient service. Our Sunday Lunch (first time we’ve had lunch at the Clifton) was extremely well cooked and presented although the choice was rather restrictive). As expected the dining room was well patronised, mainly in appeared with regular customers with an average age of 70 plus who dare I say were as traditional as the hotel itself. A very pleasant and leisurely lunch which we all enjoyed and which we certainly recommend,

We recently stayed at The Clifton Arms for a weekend. The location is excellent and we had a large room overlooking the green. We ate in the restaurant one of the evenings, which was very good. There was a good choice of breakfast menu, which agains was very good. If I had to make a criticism, it would be that our particular room was a bit 'tired' and could do with an update on decor and furniture.

We have dined here several times whilst on holiday in the area and always enjoyed the food, service and ambiance. This time, unfortunately, the bar and restaurant were empty when we arrived - hence no atmosphere. The duck on noodles was pretty salty - as folk who don't use salt in any cooking, or on the table, it really was far too much. The creme brulee was superb.

Ryan was attentive and provided a great service for us. We had haddock and chips twice. The food looked and tasted great. The chips tasted home cooked and the fish was perfect. We had a gravy boat with spicy curry sauce, which was not too spicy, but just right. Both of us thoroughly enjoyed our meal. No concerns regarding cleanliness. A strong recommendation from us.
