A nice village style pub in the heart of the village, close to the canal and national trust property. A comprehensive selection of pub classics - sandwiches, ploughman’s, burgers as well as larger meals. Reasonably priced food, no frills but that’s absolutely fine. It was run very efficiently, staff were all superb.

Nice pub in the heart of the village and with good parking. Comprehensive menu with good variety of food nicely served, although my Chilli would have benifited from being a bit hotter and a few more red kidney beans. The pub is worth a visit, and just a stroll away from the very attractive Essex Bridge.

We've been here many times, with family and friends. A group of us from a motorcycle club, around 15 or 20, came here yesterday by prior arrangement for lunch. We've done this numerous times before and have always been made very welcome here. Yesterday was no exception! As always here, we were served good pub food in generous portions; and considering the number of us who all arrived at the same time, we were served promptly. Bar and restaurant staff here are always efficient, friendly and good humoured. In all, it was a very happy experience again at the Clifford, and we will most definitely return. Highly recommended.

Have visited with friends many times never been disappointed. Visited this week with family 20 of us in total adults and children. Had 14 different meals including 2 special dietary requirements, all excellent everyone really enjoyed themselves. Home cooked ham especially good. If you are really hungry try the ploughman’s lunch lots of cheese and ham. Staff very friendly and efficient nothing too much trouble for them. Good choice of beers. An excellent visit would recommend highly

Upon arrival to the infamous "Clifford Arms," located on the main road that travels through central "Great Haywood." Whilst standing outside the ancient establishment, a demonic voice beckoned me towards the old fashioned building; with creamy white stripes which ran down the exterior of the building. Breaking up the white stripes was the occasional pillar of black worn timber framing the building. Entering the building i was greeted by a rather flabby gentleman who was perhaps aged in his late sixties. The Gentleman guided me towards a tree stump with multiple rows of pegs scented like a glorious voyage on the high seas scattered about it, where i deposited my worn and tattered coat for it to rest and simmer amongst the modern coats. However, what i found the most peculiar was a damp and soggy welly rack where i was requested to leave my boots. After leaving my clothing by the front door, I was guided towards a natural table with a slight wobble to it that aggressively and violently flung any glass of liquid across the room. after a noticeably short wait i was greeted by a group of sixteen children who surrounded me and demanded my order. I requested a steak and ale pie from the amazing chef working inside of the kitchen. After providing my order to the children a demonic snarl was heard coming from behind the bar and seconds later a small and bruised child ran out with a plate (made from browned china). the plate was placed down in front of me and spun 8 times until the child was satisfied whit the direction at which the pie was facing. After slicing into the golden pie a foul stench was smelt similar to that of blue-green algae which sits on the surface of the ocean (which just so happens to be my favourite scent). upon stuffing half of the cold pie into my mouth, I bit into a tuft of flavourful fur which got stuck into my teeth and wound around my teeth like wire. After finishing my delightful meal i noticed that the room was of course swaying as if i was sailing on the high seas during a day with a rather aggressive wave pattern; this off course was the pinnacle of my experience and took me back to the joys of my youth when i frequently sailed along the seas. Overall, this was a lovely experience and i would definitely return at a later date. Kind regards, Admiral Shirley

The staff are very nice and service is good but the food is horrid. We had to eat here twice as no other choice. All 4 meals were awful.microwave food. See pic of their chargrilled chicken and Smokey bacon pasta it was literally floating in creamy soup with hard stewed chicken chunks floating in it. Need a new chef with Sone idea of basic cooking and presentation.

We’ve visited a few times for drinks and eaten twice at The Clifford Arms while cruising through Great Haywood on our narrowboat. Our dogs are always made welcome in the bar area, they offer a superb pint of Landlord, nice food menu and also a specials board, friendly locals. On our most recent visit my husband thought the chips weren’t up to scratch, maybe old fat, they seemed a bit overdone on the outside and empty on the inside, but apart from that, we’ve always enjoyed our meals and beers there and will definitely visit next time we’re in the area.

Really good pub, staff and locals all very welcoming, great atmosphere. Six of us eating and everyone felt that they had a good choice on the menu and also enjoyed what they ordered. Specials board too. Helpful and speedy service for both meals and drinks. Spacious bar. Everyone was eating in the bar by preference as there was a good ambiance and banter. At busier times or if you want a quieter visit, there is a restaurant to.

We had two evening meals here (Friday and Saturday night) whilst camping locally. We had to wait a while for a table on the Friday but there were plenty free on the Saturday. (We couldn't reserve a table as we had our dog, so ate in the bar area.) Food was enjoyable, a generous portion of Scampi and a superb Chicken Balti. Service was friendly.

We visited for a weekday lunch. The bar was busy - clearly popular with locals. The menu was fine, plenty of options. Prices are competitive. Food came quite quickly. Most items were enjoyed. However there was very little cauliflower in the cauli curry and a pie's pastry top really should be cooked with the filling. Pleased that physical menus were available as well as the QR codes on tables.

We visited with a 9month baby and when asked where they could accommodate to change the baby’s nappy was told on the toilet floor. When asked can I change in a area that has seats and customers .. the bar maids response was no sorry. I had to leave and change babies nappie outside luckily I had a changing mat. In 2022 you expect family pubs to accommodate baby changing facilities

Really disappointed. We moored up at Tixall Wide and walked into this beautiful and popular village looking for a good pub lunch at 2pm on a Friday. We were told in a single word ‘no’ we are not doing food.. Why not offer simple sandwiches, oatcakes, pasties etc. The toilets were not clean. It comes across as a locals pub with outsiders a nuisance. Could be a gold mine!!
