Superb Sunday lunch, two roasts available, beef and turkey. Both meats well cooked and moist, served with a lovely selection of seasonal vegetables and fluffy Yorkshire puddings. In addition to the roasts, a range of basket meals, sandwiches and pies also available The Star is a very friendly, welcoming pub. Highly recommend

The Star is one of the best pubs in the area. The real ale is always awesome and well looked after, Liz is really hard working and very friendly, it’s always got a bunch of locals and regulars who are always happy to chat. Pl BTT of parking and a nice gated garden for he kids. Every couple of months there is a charity auction which is well attended and a great laugh as well as helping out local good causes and others. Curry, whiskey and Burns nights are well worth the visit and a lot of fun. What more could you ask for!!

If you’re looking for a traditional chain pub, look elsewhere. The Star Inn is a true traditional pub that does home cooked food, real ales, and a great selection of wines and spirits Guaranteed to have friendly locals at or around the bar and in the winter the fire is roaring! Definitely a good conversation pub as it’s great to have hardly any phone service!

Called in on the off chance, glad we did, the food was fresh, hot and delicious, And home made meant homemade, not like a lot of places which advertise home cooked food, which is basically heated up supermarket stuff, homemade chicken and mushroom pie , homemade steak burgers definitely not supermarket stuff absolutely delicious and plenty of it. We visited for lunch one day whilst staying in the area. The garden is lovely, but we should have been alerted to the fact that the few people there were drinking, not eating. That said, the drinks were a disaster . We ordered three bloody Marys. a rare splurge . They arrived minus the vodka. One of us complained, the owner insisted that the pre mixed bottle from which they had been poured contained vodka. No it definitely didn't . So we paid for three Bloody Marys but they were in fact tomato juice. The food was very poor. I ordered chicken curry which was watery, tasteless and rudimentary. A small portion too, and obviously made with jar sauce. The rest of our party had burgers in a cheap supermarket bun with packet salad. The chips were nice. Lunch was pretty well ruined by then so we left, much lighter in the wallet. A shame, as the garden gave us hope. It was the only bad meal we ate all week too.

I recently visited The Star Inn with friends and their children. Two of us adults went inside to order drinks whilst the others went to the beer garden, which is really nice and has a slide and swings for the children. When we walked into the pub everyone fell silent and just looked at us. There were about 4 people sat at the bar and the barmaid who we didn't get the warmest greeting from, not even a smile. When we were ordering our drinks, each time she asked "anything else?" and I said "Yes..." she rolled her eyes and acted put out. Not the best first impression for a business. Sitting in the beer garden was lovely on a sunny day. Shame it was marred by the 'customer service'.

The Star Inn is probably your typical English Midlands country pub, but everything about it is spot on. It has atmosphere, good beer (even has good wine) and it serves excellent food (not so typically English), very modestly priced. On a cool rainy afternoon this is a great place to spend time with good friends. Note - you can bring your pets if you are just having a drink and a chat - but you cannot bring them into the restaurant.

We stumbled upon the Star Inn, Copmere End on a roaming day out. I did know where we were. The Star is very nice inside. Very authentic and unspoiled. it seemed a popular place despite its out of the way-ness.I had a gammon steak with eggs. Nicely cooked but it wasn't salty enough for me, but that is just my taste. My wife had whole-tail Scampi which she thought to be too mushy. The fries I had were wonderful. We shared a sticky toffee pudding and Ice cream. It was so good we couldn't believe it, the best we have ever had, the ice cream was made locally, it couldn't have been better. We were offered four different home made pies, I seriously believe we should have tried them.We will go back to the Star, you should all give it a try.

My wife and I have visited the Star on a number of occasions and it is a delightful spot for a drink on a warm summer evening. The meal was not delightful however. My Fish Stew was excellent but the Fried fish my wife had was inedible. As nobody came to check on us during the meal it was only when the plates were cleared were we asked if everything was okay. The fried fish instead of been nice firm flakes was just a greasy mush. The waitress apologies and asked if we wanted something else but I'd finished mine so my wife decided it was too late. The waitress passed the comments to the chef who appeared and told us the fish was perfectly fine but as it wasn't to our taste we wouldn't be charged. Sorry but that's not good customer service. In future we will stick to having a nice drink.

We contacted the owners in advance and they kindly allowed us to stay overnight in our motorhome in their car park. We were greeted by the owner who came out to the car park to make sure we were ok and then had a lovely relaxed meal. The food was tasty and home cooked. I had pie and mash, which was great, served with plenty of veg. Husband had fish and chips and the chips were really good and the fish was excellent too in nice light and crispy batter. The food wasn't served super quick, but I presume that was because someone was cooking it! The pub was a typical rural local, but that was fine by us, as we live in a village and are used to everyone knowing each other. I would go back here to eat and if it was our local, we'd probably know everyone too!

Visited here to take my 90 yr old mother to lunch before Christmas. The pub was busy and my mum found it too noisy. We were told to look at the blackboard on the wall for menus but due to people standing in front of it we could not read it. No written menu provided so barman shouted out the options. Food review is mixed. The apple and parsnip soup tasted mainly of apple so was rather odd but garlic mushrooms were good. Although there were not many eating, we waited ages for the food - after one hour we had only had starters. The main courses were good quality but spoiled by the long wait. A nice little pub with a log fire and people seemed friendly but need to provide menus and sort out the service time.

It's difficult for me to be wholly objective here as I've known the pub for a long time and preferred it when Geoff and Cecily ran it. It was less pretentious, more friendly and altogether better. The next owners put the emphasis on food and updated the interior and changed the nature and character of the pub and the core customer base changed somewhat. I know this was necessary in some respects because the place is so small, and to generate a realistic income, the change had to come. But in my humble opinion, the pub lost its soul. I thought Audrey worked very hard and Mike and Audrey made the pub their own and were nice and friendly. Audrey had a good team and worked her socks off to make the food side work. I think a lot of that now has gone. The food is nowhere near as good and the landlord is not what I would call jovial or personable. In fact he can be quite unpleasant and make indiscreet personal remarks and I'm quite prepared to substantiate this last statement should he need reminding how inappropriate his comments have been. I and plenty of others I know will not be returning to the Star until new owners are in. If I spend my money in a business helping that person to make a living, I don't want to be greeted by a rude, ignorant individual. He can keep his poorly-honed opinions to himself. Roll on new owners.

Were going to the Bell in Eccleshall but kitchen closed. Had heard of the Star Inn so gave it a try. Full beer garden and pub hosting several locals with full barstaff attention . Eventually they noticed me and yes still serving lunches. Small menu choice so roast beef and roast chicken ordered.Think they assumed the chicken was for my wife as the portion was small and surprised the waitress delivering who was handing the beef to me.I have never seen roast chicken served in bits pulled from the carcass -- no breast meat & no crispy skin. Surely it is served on the bone and at the price should have been a half chicken . Sending it back was not an option given the time it took to arrive at the table . Both meals were poorly presented particularly the beef which looked thrown on the plate , very soggy and small yorkshire pud and swimming in gravy which for both meals should have been in a boat for the customer to put on what they wanted. Consider the service unprofessional and as always will be advising friends not to go there as by no means well priced and observing other meals served not a lot on the plate either.

This pub is in a wonderful location and has a large beer garden with bowls of water for visiting dogs which is a nice touch. I was also impressed by the original acid etched window in the front door, thoughtfully left where it belongs. The food is not overpriced as some reviewers suggest, you have to pay a premium for quality and location. I would visit again. Maybe it is a 3.5 but certainly not a 3.0 so 4.0 it has to be.

They let us order drinks and a bottle of wine then said they were no longer serving food as it was quiet and the chief had gone home! With no apology or "friendly atmosphere" the only thing I can base my review on is the flat dishwater coke, we took the screw top for the wine and left, never to return! We ended up in a lovely place called The Royal Oak which WAS friendly and the chief stayed on to do us some lovely food with large portions and fresh drinks! The food was excellent, two courses sufficient for me, although the ladies had room for sweet. The beer was of good quality, with Brains seasonal on. The coal fire warmed the place nicely on what was quite a chilly day. The popularity with walkers was obvious by the pile of boots and wellingtons by the front door as we left. We parked the car in The Star car park and got the Jack Russel's leads on and set out for our trudge around the Copmere lake. It take us about 40 minutes to get to Walk Mill then another 20 minutes down the road to The Star and our reward. Just going in the door and feeling the warmth from the fire and settling in to a table with the dogs at our feet is almost reward enough. But there is more to come. The cheerful welcome the, food, the beer and the wine. This day Jim had a Guinness and I had a glass of Chardonnay while we looked at the lunch menu. Our walk had given us a great appetite and it wasn't hard to choose. We went for their famous Game Pie served with a variety of fresh vegetables. Time to load up the dogs and head for home and a nap! Cozy, comfortable and a little old-fashioned; no electronic media of any kind and very little mobile phone coverage! Warm and friendly atmosphere -- the place is usually full of regulars, which is telling. Not roomy, so booking ahead is a good idea, particularly on weekends. Beers and ales are a good mix of local favourites and familiar brands. Wine list shows some genuine concern for good wines at reasonable prices. The real attraction here is the food; it tends to standard pub faire -- lamb shanks, beef & stilton pie, etc -- but it is all fresh, hot and delectable! Not cheap, but portions are generous so overall value is good. This place is a local favourite, and there are plenty of reasons why, starting with the excellent food!
