We had been for afternoon tea in the past and remembered it very fondly. However our meal this time was not good. Very loud environment. Couldn’t have a conversation. Nosiest place we have ever eaten at! Didn't really feel welcome. Despite having booked a table of 6. Our table also kept getting knocked by the slamming doors. Our food took ages to come well over 45 minutes. Staff just tried to push more drinks. The food was ok although some we would have sent some back (the bbq ribs) but we couldn't bear stay any longer. we didn’t stay for dessert etc Never again!

The food was nice but not much of it for the price. The staff never offered and condiments and to be fair - the portion was small enough that it was gone before you could catch their attention. I have the buffalo chicken wing main ….. the chicken tasted so good - but it was 5 tiny wings, a very small pot of coleslaw and the rosemary chips were plain and dull fries. Not one hint of rosemary any where near them. My other half had the 3 meat roast - he ate every bit and enjoyed it …… but for nearly £21 for one plate of Sunday roast - you would bloomin need to !! Nice - but not worth the money

Came to stay at cliff hotel for a few days with our children to spend a few days in great Yarmouth, Upon arrival could not get a car parking space so had to leave our car on the side of the road, Went to check in at reception which was full of drunk people shouting and swearing, wasn't told the hotel had been booked out for a function, unable to eat in the restaurant as this was also being used for the function along with the outdoor seating area. Rooms dated, no kettle in the room, uncomfortable beds, rude uninterested staff, really poor for the money we paid. Definitely would not return!

Tried again after disappointing visits last year. After a nice greeting and being shown to a table in the garden we were deserted. No one took a drinks order so my husband went to the bar himself. Then nothing, couldn’t even make eye contact with any of the staff and our calls for attention were totally ignored. We never ordered and left our drinks to try somewhere else.

Came to look at hotel last year to book for November this year. Looked very impressive. How wrong was I. Booked for two nights. Arrived 4-30pm. Room was nothing special and was very cold. Went out for a meal and retuned at 9-30pm. I booked a twin room as my husband has many health problems which I won’t go into. Got into my bed and had quite a shock. The mattress was lumpy and the buttons had been covered with material held down with a metal staple . So uncomfortable.Think I fell asleep at 3am. Woke up at 6am. I had to put my jumper and scarf on, was so cold. Had a lovely breakfast and staff were very nice. Spoke to the manager about the mattress and the cold room. Went out for the day and came back early as I was absolutely shattered. Same mattress and still freezing cold . Went to reception and asked for the manager and was told they where fully booked and could do anything about it. He followed me back to our room to look at the mattress. Which shows he did absolutely nothing to help . He had all day to do something about it but obviously couldn’t be bothered . He said our choices were to sleep on the same mattress or leave. Now I’m nearly 74 years of age and paid a lot of money to sleep here. Told him again I couldn’t sleep on it so he told us to leave. On a very cold night and pouring with rain ,we checked out and not knowing the area we just sat in the car . He did mention another hotel In Yarmouth which we ended up at and I want to thank him for that as it was so much better then the Cliffs We got a full refund . Didn’t make up for the horrible experience.

Pre Booked high tea for 12 guests in October for November baby shower,Google search took us to Cliff Hotel Gorleston, site price stated £17.95 per person when we all got there setting was beautiful but that’s as far as it goes food was woeful for me personally I never ate a thing nothing looked appetising bread finger sandwiches felt stale. To top it off when it came to pay our £17.95 ,high tea was £22.95 but this was never stated when pre booking less than four weeks earlier for 12 £17.95 high teas. We did speak to management showed him exactly where are info came from but to no avail. Thankfully it was a great crowd so we had a brilliant time but all very disappointed with the supposed high tea.

Sitting on the terrace, overlooking Gorleston beach, beautiful warm sunshine. Our food was lovely and service great. No complaints there. My complaint? A group celebrating a baby shower complained that they were cold, (it definitely wasn’t cold), so staff out the heaters on. Myself and a few other patrons were then roasting hot. Sun beating down and heaters, I mentioned this to a waitress who said there was nothing she could do as “the group” were cold. Another couple got up and left, composing they were too hot. Honestly ridiculous, if you’re cold then go inside, unsure why the rest of us had to suffer - can only assume that “they were a group and paying more than the other guests” wrong attitude there as The Cliff had no idea if we were sussing it out for a wedding venue. Disappointing.

The location great. We ate outside but under cover the seats nearer to the half windows were wet due to rain. It was cold asked for heaters. The Sunday lunch was tasty if somewhat pricey. The waiter was a bit slow. Whilst you allow dogs in to this part of the hotel it's not very nice when one selfish inconsiderate disrespectful dog owner let their dog go to the loo on the artificial carpet and left it there for someone else to pick it up. You know who you are It's a bit off putting in fact we should have refused to pay. Its all very well to appease the dog lovers but what about people just wanting a lovely Sunday.lunch. I expected a slight reduction but I doubt if our waiter even mentioned it to his manager. Unacceptable would not recommend this to anyone.

Had family meal last night, table of 9 and food was very good and all enjoyed.. Disappointment would be the toilets, I had to report mens toilet mess (which could have been there for least an hour). Then my wife had to report that there was no toilet roll in ladies, maybe a toilet rota would help? To finish on a high the staff were very apologetic about the state of toilets and during meal were very attentive and happy.

We arrived with family (grand parents, grandchildren, etc.) for a drink and nibbles after enjoying the beautiful Gorleston beach and were immediately made to feel unwelcome. Despite the terrace having lots of empty tables, we were told they were fully booked for that area and sent to a table in the cold/windy shaded space away from the terrace which incidently was completely deserted. Maybe the terrace was fully booked but it certainly didn't seem that way. It felt like our party including young children was a problem best kept out of sight. When approaching the bar to buy drinks, we were aggressively and rudely told by no less than 3 waitresses (simultaneously) to go back to our table and to wait to be served. I've never been a fan of table service for drinks at supposedly informal establishments but that wasn't the problem, it was the utter rudeness and contempt with which we were spoken to. We left promptly as I wouldn't dream of gracing The Cliff Hotel (or any establishment that treated people this way) with our pressence. We then went to the Pier Hotel and the difference was the polar opposite as their staff were friendly and welcomed our family with open arms. I can only presume The Cliff Hotel is trying to go for an exclusive VIP vibe but it fails at that too. The menu was very 'try hard' and the drinks list was basic and limited. But ultimately it fails to fulfil even the most essential objective of all hospitality establishments, to welcome its guests. If you have any self respect, avoid this joint.

This restaurant is now not up to the standard it used to be .We had to wait 40 minutes for the food to come out .If it had been another 5 minutes we would have left .The hand cut chips we paid extra for were greasy ,chunky and unpeeled .They were more like potato wedges The waitress asked what sauces we wanted ,I had a chicken burger .I had just come back from Portugal and I got a taste for peri sauce .There was a mention of peri sauce on the menu .I asked for peri sauce ,The waitress said that would be extra . Fair to say that we won’t be going again .At the time if writing the review this restaurant was rated 30th out of 32 restaurants locally .I’m sure it will get the 32nd spot soon

We booked the carvery set meal on Boxing Day When we were seated, the girl asked if we wanted drinks then disappeared for ages. In the end we decided against starters and went and got our dinner. The girl then finally came over with our drinks and said "oh you don't want starters then" - we were half way through our dinner when she came over with our drinks, and the reason we didn't order starters is because she was too busy standing at the bar rather than attending to the diners. She didn't smile or even try and interact - it was an awful service. We get its Boxing Day and she probably didn't want to be there but that's not our fault, we are paying customers, it wasnt very busy and she should be more professional and not act like a sulking teenager. We will not be rushing back anytime soon, which is a shame because the food was nice but the poor service spoilt it

Then asked us if we had booked I said no we just wanted a drink, shoved a tablet in front of us and told us to book..the place was three quarters empty so why? Then had to be seated where they decide..we said no thanks and left, found a much nicer place right next to the pier so won't be going in here again.

Decided to book late afternoon for AT, good choice as the Terrace was quite empty with no loud people around. (Makes a change!) When we arrived we were offered a table near to where the staff operate from, so we asked to be moved near to the windows so we had a better view. The staff of young ladies were polite, friendly. Food arrived in good time and was of good quality Cost £40. Compared to some afternoon teas we have had, this was good value and tasty and certainly a lot less money than some establishments we have been to. We would be back again as we were in 2021.

Our first time at this hotel and our first time to Norfolk. After reading some recent reviews we were a bit apprehensive. We stayed last week and we loved the hotel, from arrival being greeted by a nice friendly and professional receptionist ,our room was spotless on arrival and cleaned daily all Covid 19 regulations in place, we ate at the hotel and the food and service was good, the breakfast in the morning was brilliant great choice and service. All staff were very friendly and considering they were all quite new they were a credit to the Hotel, just need to mention a few people by name,Rob the manager took time out to sort out our dining requirements and made a point of chatting to us when he saw us, a mention to Harriot one of the waitresses who made us so welcome on our first day and the days she was working always made a point of smiling and letting on again considering she had only been there a few weeks was very efficient and friendly. The receptionist who met us on arrival as I said previously was excellent,we also had to speak to another receptionist and again she was very helpful,on checking out it was again a different receptionist but she was really nice, asked if everything had been ok and had we enjoyed our stay.Well we can honestly say we did enjoy our stay and thanks to all the staff keep up the good work.Sheila and Philip

Booked a table for 2 for a meal in the restaurant of the Cliff Hotel Gorleston at 8pm 0n 11th August 2020 to celebrate a birthday. We turned up early at 7.30pm and faced initial confusion in finding our booking. Had hoped to sit on the covered terrace but regrettably people were smoking there which doesn't work for us. We eventually were seated in the bar area as opposed to the Muse restaurant. Ordered the meal at about 8pm, a starter and a main. The starter appeared about 8.20. Then nothing. As 9pm approached I had already asked several waiters for an update re our food. At 9.15pm I managed to speak to the restaurant manager. He checked and informed us that a meal would definitely arrive in 15 minutes. By this time we had drank our bottle of wine, most of a bottle of water and just couldn't wait any longer. I believe the restaurant was supposed to close at 9.30pm. We weren't charged. I'm afraid it spoiled my fiancees birthday and the first meal we would have eaten away from home since the Covid outbreak. I have to say the worst experience in a UK restaurant since the 1970s for me. I don't know if the kitchen couldn't cope or if our order had been lost. Extremely annoyed and disappointed. Cannot recommend.

I really don’t know why this place has such a ‘posh’ status. I went for lunch with my daughter, and due to Covid we were told to choose a table and wait for drink orders. The waiting staff looking after us was very straight faced and no charisma at all. Didn’t even crack a smile. Ordered sausage and chips from kids menu for my daughter and a jacket potato with cheese for myself. Whilst we waited all I could hear was a young Norfolk gobby loudmouth bloke down two tables from us (you get that type in there a lot because they think it’s flashy) but that’s not the restaurant’s fault - just thought I’d pre warn about the type of clientele it attracts. Food arrived, order was wrong. No chips, but mash. Lumpy. My potato was alright, I had a better one when i stayed in hospital. Cheese was obviously mozzarella grated out of a packet so it’s bland as anything. You would think of you were working in a kitchen of such a nice place you would want to impress? Stuck some cheddar in with the mozzarella maybe? Make it taste nice? Not worth the money at all.

On the night we went to go for dinner I had booked on the website , was called open table where I had made the booking I did this around 5.30/6pm. I booked it for 8.15 that night for the MUSE restaurant as i liked the look of the menu and we were eating in the pier the day after so wanted to try both hotels. We got to the restaurant at 8. So we were slightly early. A young girl came to us and asked if we were ok. She walked us to the muse restaurant . An older lady about 45 years of age ina red sleeveless top then came over and she questioned have we got a reservation , kinda rudely if I’m honest. The man with the reservation bookings then said I don’t have a ‘Hunter ‘on my list flipping through his pad not even giving any eye contact to us , not even bothered about us !, (Like we hadn’t booked) . His mannerisms weren’t friendly at all. We were dressed quite casually. So it felt like we were being looked down upon by both of these senior staff members & we didn’t fit in there( we felt very awkward wasn’t nice at all ). She then took us out of the restaurant to the reception area and I showed her my booking on my phone for the muse. She then said oh did you book it through open table ( as if that was the error ) like it was our fault. I said yes. Then the receptionist confirmed that we did have a booking with them. The last didn’t even apologise to us. She said I will have to look into this ! But then only offered us a seat in the conservatory part of the other restaurant and said we could have the same menu if we liked. My partner then said he wasn’t happy with us following them around like idiots and said everyone’s looking at us now. Which they were. She then said to him it’s only because you raised your voice - which he didn’t - he talks loud and wasn’t rude at all. She then passed us off to a young girl as she didn’t wish to help anymore. For a senior floor manager or whatever she was she made us feel so uncomfortable and unwelcome. We just left and one of the poor young ladies was trying to get us to stay and apologising ( the first apology by the way we had there ! ) for what has happened. We will never return and was such a shame but for 2 senior staff to be unfriendly the manager of these restaurants should look who his employing as if my staff behaved like that they would be i a warning for bad service. After reading other reviews people have had similar experiences. Look at the service as you won’t get people coming back again. When people go out for dinner wherever they go they should be made to feel welcome & not awkward. My partner lived in Gorleston-on-Sea for a large part of his life and shocked at the level of service in a well known hotel has.

Wrong menus on tables that were admittedly from 8months ago, didn’t explain this until food had already arrived. Ordered a bacon flatbread only to find out when eating it, it was chicken! Chef just made it up as went along. Drink arrived pure soda water that was meant to be a mojito, still awaiting the actual drink still now... no apologies from unenthusiastic waiters. Refused to pay at end and finally got some compassion from the person on till who did say I’ll just sort it. Such a shame the glass front balcony looking over the beach is fantastic but let down with over priced menu and poor poor service.

Initial disappointment that the restaurant was closed for a private function, we were invited to eat in the Bar / Restaurant instead. The food was excellent, the staff extremely proficient and helpful.Only downside was the door to the pavilion balcony near where we were sitting was constantly opened to allow entrance and for people to smoke. Allowing itto keep getting very cold.So don’t sit at that end if it will spoil it for you.

Stayed for one night - room was on second floor, yes it had a sea view, but the window is so small only one person can look out at a time. Room was clean and bed was OK but it was unbearably hot even though the radiator was turned off. The shower had two settings, scalding or freezing.

Service was okay. Sat out on the terrace. Not particularly clean, just slightly grubby. For breakfast we ordered smoked haddock and poached eggs. One egg okay the other was under cooked. The haddock was cold, still swimming on a pool of water and bland. Eggs Royale did not fair any better, poached eggs one good the other over cooked this time. The salmon was too thick and not the freshest and the hollandaise was lukewarm. No one asked how the food was and when we left staff very disinterested.

Arrived Friday 4th October for two night stay lovely open hotel nice eating and drinking area. Staff very helpful room small but had coffee and tea facilities. Sadly our bed was not as firm as we would like but we did get some sleep. Very fresh looking Hotel with nice views overlooking the sea would be great in Summer season. We had breakfast which if you dont have the full one its half price for porridge/cereal toast and fruit which suited the ladies. All in all would return.

The reason I've only put this as average as the last time I had this it was wonderful, the food was but the service was not, there were plenty of staff but they didnt seem to know what they were doing we asked for coffee and tea two coffees came no milk and no tea spoke to one staff and they said they would bring it,they didnt so had to ask again by the time it was brought and the milk for the coffee it was cold.We had to ask again for the cream for the scones and once again asked three different staff before we got it.Afternoon tea with prosecco is expensive for what it is but very enjoyable all the same except the staff didnt know what they were doing and it wasn't that busy so disappointing as I took people who had not been before and had to keep apologising

We could see the terrace from the beach as we walked with our dogs from Hopton Holiday Village to Goreleston and thought it would be perfect to have lunch and sit and look at the view. We read in the reviews to make sure the dogs didn’t go in the hotel so all walked up the steep steps as we had two dogs wit us. We found our seats and quickly realised that you needed to go to the bar for service. We had cocktails and a fabulous lunch. The food was delicious and the view made it the perfect place to stop before walking into town and getting the bus back. We were even given a bowel of water for our dogs

We popped into the Cliff Hotel for an afternoon snack. The service was chaotic and our food/drinks turned up 15 minutes apart by different staff. The coffee was revolting. Possibly the worst bought coffee I’ve had in my life. Chips were good but too salty and scone was warm and fresh. Best bit was the Colman’s Mustard and the View.

We didn’t stay here, but I wish I had looked into it. We came here to eat one evening in the restaurant and food was good (not brilliant, but probably the best in Gorleston). What they did have though was a really nice covered outdoor terrace area outside overlooking the sea and a children’s playground which my daughter loved. Made the eating experience great.

Was so excited for this day a high tea with 6 of my friends to celebrate my 40th birthday. But I came away very disappointed the cakes wasn’t nice also not many sandwiches to go round also the fillings wasn’t great. I came home hungry which is a first for me. Definitely wouldn’t recommend the high tea not worth the money.

We booked in for High Tea on a Sunday afternoon. We arrived in the bar but it was at least 5 minutes before we were acknowledged and then the waitress (Team Leader) had the cheek to say we were late!! We were seated at our table but then had to wait a while to be served. When she finally came back we decided to have our glass of Prosecco first but then there was a bit of a mix-up because apparently we hadn’t booked the High Tea with fizz (we had) so would have pay full price for a glass rather than the extra £3!! Seriously?!! Anyway, the High Tea (when it finally arrived)was delicious and we really enjoyed it. Unfortunately the service was really poor, so much so that, after waiting 15 minutes for someone to come and take our order for a bottle of wine to finish off our afternoon, we decided to just pay the bill and decamped to the Pier Hotel where we enjoyed a bottle of wine. We have been to the Cliff many times before and when it has been much busier so were disappointed on this occasion that the service was so poor.

Booked afternoon tea which looked lovely however on eating the sponge cake I found a big hair going right through the middle of it, which put us off eating the rest of it and it make me feel sick to see it as it was well and truly stuck in that cake. I gave this to the waiter who said the cakes were bought in so he would speak to the supplier. When the waitress asked if things were ok as she could see we left the cakes, obviously he hadn't spoken to her I told her we didn't want to take the rest home due to the hair in the cake, she said they are all baked on site and she was sorry...so who makes the cakes? It was such a shame as it spoilt the experience and it was a birthday surprise for someone so also slightly embarrassing as I had said how lovely it would be. It has put me off going back there again.

We were told about this place while catting with someone in Norwich. After a (blustery) walk on the beach we went there for lunch. The place was nicely busy (Friday 2pm) and service was good. The food was nice and generous servings. We only had a flatbread and a sandwich so can't talk about more main courses. They were fine - not breath-taking but good and tasty. We had a very interesting time watching ships come in and out of Yarmouth which was a great backdrop to lunch. You can take a dog in the outside space which has a roof, blankets and a great view.

Fantastic clean large rooms, we were staying here as we were attending a family funeral. My young grandaughters came as no babysitters. Staff found them colouring to keep them amused whilst adults chatted and bonded with previously unknown family members. Our dinner and breakfast were very well cooked, once again staff accommodated the requests of the children. Would definitely stay again when in area.

In short, the food is overpriced for what you get. The prices are toward the top end of eating out in fine dining establishments. It’s nice but not great - especially when they charge £9 for a scallop starter for one large and one very small scallop which wasn’t perfectly cooked.

We like the cliff hotel mainly becuase it caters well for our kids with food allergies and a good play area too. The carvery is superb, best in the area. The reason why we are rating 3 star is because yesterdays meal wasnt the best, the food order placed for our table came out in bits not all together so we ate at different times, my cod and chips was ok the fish was lovely but chips were burnt and cold. The bar man taking the order didnt know that an egg allergy wasnt part of dairy, as when i asked if the sausage contained egg he said the kitchen advice the sausages are dairy free, i had to make sure he knew that egg isnt classes as dairyin allergy terms. Got there i the end though. The coke tasted of detergent. not great. The dessert id give a miss at £7 phew!!! Sticky toffee pudding, resembeled dried up bath sponge!! and the ice cream had iced crystals in it!! wasnt fresh! urgh. I didnt eat the dessert, but the waitress very politly gave refund. We shall return but probly only for a carvery as that always seems a lot better.

A hotel with dining and accommodation with free Wi-Fi everywhere. Some rooms have a sea view and a small balcony. The building overlooks the Gorleston-on-Sea beach and sea and is situated at the northern end of the lovely long promenade, well over a mile long. The promenade has walks at both beach level and on top of the cliffs with amazing views. Also there are tennis courts and bowls and at the southern end there is an 18-hole Links Golf Course.

Well how disappointed we were with the service today. So very slow. There seemed to be lots of staff but poor organisation. We waited 25 mins for a round of drinks. The food was ok but then we were overcharged! Took a bit of sorting out! Eventually got a refund. The ladies Lois have never been updated in donkeys years and are scruffy and poorly functioning. We will not be returning!

Went to haven for the week and tried this pub the burgers was still raw and got free desserts for this. So we tried again as hoped it was a one of and had the Sunday roast which was very nice really enjoyed it. So we went a 3rd time and had the burger again and I'm sorry to say it was raw again and the family we went with there chicken was raw. It seames the manager is happy to apologise and offer free desserts but they need have have words with the people cooking the food as its shouldn't happen again. And raw chicken is a big no

Food was nice and on time, but not all the items were available. I ordered food for myself and wife and only my wife’s drink was delivered. I had no contact by just eat or costa to give me the chance to order something different. I just had a note on the receipt stating they were unavailable and to claim my money back through just eat which will be reviewed in the next 7 days…. Overall not great.

Just ate with my wife and her dad and his wife. The food was absolutely fantastic, we came for breakfast which is reasonably priced uses good quality ingredients and wasn’t greasy at all. One of the best cooked breakfasts I’ve had and certainly the best in the area.

From the moment we walked into this restaurant we were greeted by very friendly helpful staff. Karolina, Sam & Jennie, thank you for providing us with first class service! The restaurant was well presented and there was a great choice on the menu. Our food arrived promptly, presented well and was delicious. The staff were attentive throughout. We even returned the following day for breakfast which was also well cooked and delicious. We would highly recommend this restaurant.
