A really friendly bar, with lovely atmosphere. Cosy bar, great gin choices and was made to feel very welcome (and very fog friendly) 👍

This pub used to have great beer ( Mc Ewans 80/. Now crap strange concoctions. Dodgy toilet for disabled. Steep stair with dirty handrail. No food. Not much going for it except good selection of malt whisky.

Discovered this pub and enjoyed it so much we returned three times! And we were only in town four days. Bartenders were chatty and delightful. Also took the teenagers once and you can order food from nearby restaurants and bring it to the pub. We sat outside on picnic tables. Quite nice!

I couldn’t believe what had happened to the place. The only customers were disparate groups of tourists who didn’t look like they were enjoying themselves. Only one member of staff on and the atmosphere of one of those drab hotel bars that the guests would only go to wait for their taxi pickup along with their baggage. I actually wondered how you could go about doing this to a place with so much previous character and charm. To find out what I’m talking about- go to three other pubs nearby- The Cumberland, The St Vinncent or the little place in Jamaica Mews to get an idea of what Clarks must have been like before it was bought over.

It was in that dead time after lunch (like 4:00 pm) and too early for dinner. Nothing open so we popped into the bar and asked if we could order some G&Ts and food - we were desperate for food. The smiling bartender said "sure, no problem" and brought our drinks over and not long after our sandwiches arrive from The Brioche next door (which was mobbed even at that hour). A couple of G&T's later and feeling full and fed. we gratefully said our goodbyes. Customer service is everything. We felt very welcomed and accommodated, Happy to have this place nearby!

I thought long and hard about putting a review for this once cosy friendly local pub. Its not so much the pub that has changed beyond recognition but the clientele. Regulars have disappeared and have been replaced with loud and in my experience last night, obnoxious customers. We sat for one drink, our conversation drowned out by three people at the bar who had no hesitation in speaking loudly and often insultingly about people and placed. The whole experience left me wanting to shout "Shut up and go somewhere else" Its a shame as we used the drinking hatch all through the Covid restrictions and had become friendly with the staff and Manager. I thought the review just before mine regarding the customers was spot on and made me realise I am not alone in feeling this way. If the Manager reads these review my suggestion would be to have some kind of door policy and to remove annoying and loud customers who are being offensive.

Went to Clark’s with a friend and the beer was poor. Nonetheless stayed all evening and when the bill came it was wrong. Incorrect about what drinks were ordered and more importantly how many. They disagreed so we were charged significantly more than we should have been. Manager Matt said not his problem. Not happy.

We headed along to Clark’s at the weekend to get some pints to takeaway, as they have been offering during lockdown. We were pleased to find that they had reopened seating indoors! This was our first venue into indoor ‘Covid hospitality’ and we felt completely safe and very well looked after throughout. Great selection of beers, seating spaced carefully and some lovely interior updates that they had been working on during lockdown closure.

This is the first time we've visited as we didn't like the look of it previously. When we first arrived the barman was outside smoking, and quickly re-entered as we walked in.Unfortunately there were 2 large groups (assume parties) and one party was waiting for the barman, so had to wait for 6 drinks to be made. Finally ordered a couple of double G&T... reasonably priced for Edinburgh. As the barman was on his own there were uncollected glasses all around the bar. The barman went back outside for another cigarette when another customer walked in...the downside to this...we didn't see him wash his hands as he handled the garnish for the G&T he just made! Not sure if we'll be back.

Popped into the newly refurbished Clarks bar for a couple of pints whilst waiting on my girlfriend finishing work. Only 1 cider on draught and cans of Strongbow Dark Fruits on offer which is poor for this type of establishment, which was very disappointing in my eyes. The clientele in the bar has definitely changed, gone are the older generation and more of the made in Chelsea wannabes, which took away the down to earth type of pub that it had been previously. Possibly a couple of years ago when RBS had their offices opposite this pub type would have fitted in the area, however, now that there is a lack of people suiting the changes it felt a bit like I was in the West End of Edinburgh and not in a local bar. This is just my opinion of the change. The barmaid could have been a bit quicker serving rather than fluttering her eyelashes at the Jamie Laing’s of the world. I will not be visiting this pub again as the change has put me right off.

I went into Clarks Bar this week for the first time in ages, the bar man started to serve me and poured one pint, then decided he'd serve his regulars first, I objected and was told by one of the locals to 'go home and do the ironing', when I objected to his language he told me to 'shut up or he'd punch me in the face'. The bar man who had gone off to serve someone else thought this was extremely funny and then continued to serve more locals rather than myself. At this point I left. I thought this sort of behaviour had gone in Edinburgh pubs, clearly not. I'd stay well clear of this establishment if you expect any courtesy from a bar, there are many other good pubs in edinburgh

Sunday afternoon and the place was pretty quiet but I had a good welcome from the gadgie behind the bar. Footie was on two screens but it didn't feel particularly intrusive. Two real ales on tap and the one I had was just about ok- nothing memorable. It has the Cask Marque accreditation so maybe I was just bit unlucky with the pint I had. There are a few snug type areas so it has some old school character. Authentic places like this are in dwindling supply so pay a visit.

Was recommended here as I am celiac and they have a gf menu. As we were unsure what time we would be going (prior commitment before hand) I did not book. We arrived at 2.45pm and there was a sign outside saying 'bookings only, no walk ins' This was NOT on their website. We went in and spoke to a female member of staff who advised exactly what the sign had said. I then spoke to a male member of staff and asked where on their website it stated what the sign said, he said it didn't. Advised that due to rugby being on, they were unusually busy. The restaurant is large and they were not full to capacity. Asked if there was anyway we could have a table for 2 for an hour, point blank told no. We won't be returning.

We approached the café at 9am with laundry and were greeted by four Scottish Terriers who were apparently running the place, until Graham arrived up the stairs to ask what the heck we wanted...and we knew immediately we were in the right place! I've read some of the reviews, and if you don't understand Graham in the first 5 seconds of him opening his mouth, you don't deserve to be there...and I am pretty sure Graham will know/sense it himself. I think he relishes poor reviews. But we felt immediately at home, and once we passed the "test", Graham was the perfect host. I had to put up with insults on my lack of fashion sense and some uncomfortable history lessons regarding the villainy of George Washington, but my wife and I would not trade our experience for anything! Graham practically did our laundry for us, made us coffee, and even gave me a lovely (empty) can of haggis. Thank you for the experience Graham! I hope you enjoy the US Dollar Bill (with Washington on it)...and I won't forget that American history is really Scottish history!

Booked in the restaurant for our 20th Wedding Anniversary. We weren’t staying at the hotel but did add that we were celebrating upon booking. We arrived early expecting to have a drink at the bar but the table was ready for us. We received a complimentary glass of champagne each on arrival. The staff were fantastic and couldn’t have done more. They even sorted us out with a special dessert to help celebrate the occasion. The food was to a high standard and the portion size was perfect. Altogether a fantastic meal and exemplary service.
