Clarence Pier Brewers Fayre in Portsmouth

First time been, the carvery was beyond disappointing, only two of 3 meets available to what was on the menu, on a Sunday when they have bookings your'd think more be prepared. Lack of vegetables. Yorkshire dry and awful. Roast potatoes disgusting. I did eat the meat my partner ate none of hers. Spoilt evening for our daughters 11th birthday. Staff weren't very apologetic. Not alot of alcohol available on tap. Would not return!

A little slow on service. A typical brewers fire but a pleasant place to dine. Would recommend you book in advance, as they usually are unable to accept walk-in's.

Great for family's went on Sunday and the carvery was good. Downside softplay area not supervised and older kids allowed to run riot knocking over smaller kids.

Very busy on Sunday lunch. The buffet roast is great value for money.

Food was good and fast service from the classic ‘order from the bar’ scenario. Not the place however for those who want a chilled and quiet environment as it is very much a family establishment although it seemed the younger customers are well cared for.

Friendly staff but I hate to say , poor quality and service for food unfortunately, for a basic burger and (watery )chicken salad waiting time was an hour and restaurant wasn’t busy !

Went in the other day to meet with some friends, got served by Charlie and esmae, great staff!!!

We both opted for burgers without the buns, but with a lovely salad instead. Tom, the chef obviously used his imagination as its was one of the best that we've ever had. Very friendly staff made it a really good experience.

It's the little things here for me. The food is reasonably priced for what you get. But then again, I am of the opinion that if I'm paying for it, it should taste good regardless of the charge, it might just be low quality or limited menu. After all I'm a big fan of wetherspoons and would probably recommend that over this particular brewers fayer. While my food arrived warm, cooked throughly and tasted good, the plates felt unclean. After inspection they looked clean but they had a rough / strange feel to them, as if they had dried on old food stuck to them. I have no doubt they had been in the dishwasher though. The bathrooms were however, filthy. The walls, floor and pipes by the sink had damp and mould growing from the water spilling and no one cleaning it up and there was a strong ammonia smell. The baby change was really filthy, dirty nappies and wipes left out and the bins were really full, the smell was unbareable. Tables felt sticky to touch and staff were slow to clear plates away. The children's menu was really good value for money and had fresh fruit and salad options. There is a children's play area, that if you have a child, you will be seated.next to, making for a very loud and distracting eating environment. I went with my 8 month old and trying to get him to concentrate on his food with all the children running around was hard. I fully support the children running and screaming, rather them let it out here and burn the energy than screaming at home and deafening their parents! But I feel it should be something that you are asked if you wish to be seated next to. I think overall the kitchen is good but the front of house needs work.

Really well cooked food . Was quiet on a Saturday night which I don't understand as great views over the Solent and great food .

On arrival, lady manager arguing with a customer at the bar,we were shown to a table close to the kids play area,we sat right in the middle of a very large family party,with kids running around. We did ask to move but were told they cant. The floor around our table had loads of food that previous guests had dropped,staff just left it,if we could see it so could they. Food was average at best. When we ordered the young lady behind the bar disrespected the guy we were ordering from, she was very rude and condescending to him,very unprofessional, hence me leaving this post. We saw so many tables that hadn't been cleared and cleaned,I counted 11 as we left, on a Sunday. Seams there's very low standards here, and I'm not going back.

Really good value for money. The food is really nice and we enjoy having breakfast there. The sofa play is great for the kids to burn off energy.

Really not impressed decided to visit during our Victorious festival day out as it seemed cheaper than eating in the event but unfortunately the portion sizes were poor and the service was shocking waiting for multiple new arrivals to be served whilst I waited patiently at the bar for my desert well past my main meal. Really disappointed as the breakfast I had only a week before couldn't be better!

Loved this place, there was a soft play for the kids, very friendly on arrival, staff great but only one criticism the barman was not very happy, looked as he was feed up 😧. Apart from that great place.

Very understaffed, staff then become rude , managers take note, Try picking up a flimsy pint plastic cup to take outside with out obviously pinching in the sides and beer all over ya hand and pub floor,,,,, ridiculous

Tried this place again yesterday after a awful experience a few months ago but can honestly it's got worse not better the food was awful again and also I've read it might be closing down hopefully very soon

Went there for lunch the manager Patrick very rude sarcastic wouldn’t listen to me told us all to get up and leave and give us a refund ordered chicken wings to start four tiny chicken wings come out they look like sparrow wings no garnish just on a plate when I asked him about it it was very sarcastic and just said just leave. I’ll give you a refund and then get the refund. He was laughing. Very unprofessional would not recommend this place stay well clear !!!!!!!

A lovely walj arond different gardens. Under £10 to get in. Its also has a gift shop garden centre shop too

The place is nicely set out, but very basic food, my children meals they loved. But I had the chicken tikka curry was very runny like a soup, and handful of rice. Get a microwave meal in supermarket thats more tasty and only cost 4 pound.

Had a carvery today and the potatoes tasted like they'd been sat out for hours, the meat was dry, the gravy watery and very small selection of veg. The veg that was there was very dried out too

Food is good definitely recommend for families etc

Service was great , waited a while to be seated however staff made an amazing cocktail , food took a while but was nice 🙂 parking is freee for 3 hours so don’t pay by machine

Great selection of different items for breakfast. Staff were great at keeping up with diminishing items, I think they needed a spare pair of hands at times. All in all, I will definitely revisit. Staff were amazing 👏

First impressions, pretty good. Great breakfast, cooked perfectly tbh. Has on site kids facilities and play pen. Clean toilets, good customer service and plenty of large areas to seat your family. Pretty impressive and the waiter/bar staff was really friendly. When we visit Clarence Pier again we will definitely be spending the few hours on the morning here before the rest of the attractions open.

Lovely fish and chips by the seaside

We visited the Clarence pier Brewers Fayre for drinks and something to eat. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. The food and drinks was good quality and reasonably priced plus the place was very clean.

With The Brewers fare, you know what you're getting, generally cheap food. I stayed here, well at the Premier Inn next door. You have to pay everywhere for parking, here you get 3 hours free, which is great when my son visited me for breakfast. The area has lots to do. Breakfast buffet was good for a buffet, the second day the hash brown seemed very dark, but soggy, so a bit different on the weekend, compared to the week. Staff were friendly.

Nearly all unoccupied tables dirty/uncleared when we arrived and still same by the time we had received our meals.food was very nice

Food was cold a sloppily presented there were a lot of drunk people in the bar area where we were shown a seat to eat. Will NEVER visit again worst meal in a brewers fayre

Had the buffet breakfast, it's nothing special, can't complain for the price but average review for this reason. Black pudding is always soggy. Maybe the way they've been told to cook it so it's uniform across all sites.

The girl at houst Vicki amazing and welcome in, burger chef Andy amazing burgers, rest of food phenomenal. Dog friendly if u have a passport, fully recomended.

Situated right on the sea front. You can sit in or outside. You have to go up to the bar to order food and drinks but good service and lovely food. Especially enjoyed my nachos

Had a really lovely meal, the customer service by Des and Mia was excellent, the pub was really clean and maintained. They were really good with my dietary restrictions. 100% will come back again!

Stayed at the adjoining Premier Inn, paid for a meal deal thinking it was good value how wrong we were . Sunday evening noisy, uncleared tables,food on floor, we were eventually seated, myself and hubby both chose a mixed grill, onion rings and chips over fried hard and inedible as was the gammon and steak which was bloody and tough also inedible. Very poor quality meats. No one came to ask if the meal was ok,complained to the waiting staff , basically shrugged their shoulders not interested.what a waste of money,£55 for a meal deal. Checked out of Premier Inn the following morning as we were getting a ferry to the IOW. Receptionist asked if everything had been ok, our premier plus room was ok, no problem. Explained about meal in the restaurant,we were told we would get a refund on our meal deal,but surprise surprise we never received a refund, Will not pay for a meal deal again. Food wasn't too bad, just made the mistake of sitting in the area near the indoor play park, which was a bit chaotic

Thought this had had a refurb?? Staff unhelpful,coffee from machine Luke warm..no cups/mugs out, toilets dirty..same as it always was!!!!!

The blonde female receptionist was very unwelcoming when she saw i had a discount voucher & she said there were no tables available but to our left was a table with dirty plates on it & I said we can sit there which we did . During the course of the king carvery a couple left in disgust & were shouting at her saying they were going to get her the sack . All the other staff were friendly except her ,she clearly doesn't have " customer friendly skills", she put a dampner on the day.It was on Sunday 9 June 2024.

Well. If I could give 0 stars I would. As a local in Portsmouth with a young child we have visited many pubs in and around Portsmouth with very little issues. But this place is nothing short of a joke. If you have a child below 11 you will be victimised, not child friendly in the slightest. Staff are rude obnoxious unprofessional and you can seriously tell they don’t want to be there, this is made clearly obvious by their attitude and approach to customers 7am - 11pm are their opening times, however be prepared for them to change these hours as and when they see fit dependant if they can be bothered to serve customers or not. Arrived at 11:50am one Saturday morning for a quick drink & snack with my 1 year old daughter. Doors wide open, people inside eating and drinking, so clearly open would you agree? Nope clearly not. Based on there obvious ‘can’t be bothered to serve you as you have a young child’ attitude they tried to convince me they were open for breakfast closed again then open at 12pm again despite the doors being wide open, no clear closed sign displayed or display of this statement anywhere on site. The ‘manager’ if you want to call him that proceeded to then argue with myself saying ‘this is the case we’re closed end of’ but then proceeds to serve a member of the public who arrived after me.. If you have a young child and are in Southsea I would HIGHLY recommend you don’t go here as your service will be based on if you have a young family or not. Many other local pubs around a 5 min walk away around the area are much better than this dive. Avoid at all costs staff and company are a joke!

Busy evening , so as expected, a little wait for food. No problem with meals. Came out hot. We sat in the soft play area due to our children and about 6 children were just running riot. Turning machines on and off and thumping and kicking them. running around people that were eating. In and out the toilets , while the parents sat oblivious to it all. The toilets need checking more often. There was no toilet paper in 4 out of 4 female toilets, instead it was all over the floor or thrown around on the sinks.empty paper towel dispenser. Couldn't leave my children to play because the other children were so manic and didn't care who they knocked in to or knocked over. I did report the toilets and the lack of staffs visual check on the soft play area .

Food not good,saw 3 other people complaining about food whilst we were there,it was dealt with very swiftly,but shouldn't of been sent out by the kitchen staff in first place,as its the waiting staff that has to deal with it! Its a lovely place,but I won't be gong back!

Really enjoyed the ease of being able to grab what the kids liked to eat, without having to wait. Fantastic price for a breakfast, and the soft play at the back is really handy.

Booked a table in advance to celebrate a birthday only to find out that there was no gammon , hotdogs,smothered chicken burgers etc and no vodka for cocktails . Management need to get the stock ordering right ,theres no excuse to run of vodka ! Piss poor performance and won't be going back .

Lovely place, the drink refill machine is great. My meal was really nice too, great value lunch menu. The car park on the right is council run and the prices aren't up to date, free parking from the Clarence is round the back of it. Didn't find that out until we went in and I'd already paid. 😩 At least I know for next time!

I come quite offen but to day was a disaster food turn up with out the chips and no knife no salad was told it was comming but didnt turn up all round me people was sending there food back and complaining to the staff

My partner and I came here as a cheeky 'why not' but sadly we did not have a good visit. I will start off stating that the staff were very good & friendly, however, the food could not say the same. My partner had the cheese & bacon burger but they must have ran out of bacon as it didn't come with it. I ordered the 'new' chicken fajita burger. I have to say it was not edible. It was infact far from it. The chicken was overcooked & chewy, the avocado was soft, smelt & tasted sour, the sauce at the bottom smelt very funky. Not even remotely fresh. And lastly the lettuce, the scarcity of it anyhow, was bruised and soggy. It's a real shame as I expected an similar great experience than to the counterpart business. I could not raise any issues with the staff as they were too busy tending to other guests. It's a shame to say it but I will not be returning. It's a good thing I saved 25% with my Meerkat deal otherwise I'd have been more upset - FYI that does work fabulously to those who dine there. Terms & conditions apply.

Socking service, after waiting 10 minutes at the till to order and pay for the breakfast buffet not a staff member in sight. A customer had to go into the kitchen to find someone. When he returned his answer was he dont know where he is. After finally paying for the food. Nobody asked us what we wanted or if we had any allergens so i went to find him to explain we didnt want so and so but he was more than intrested in getting through the kitchen door to the kitchen. Then he came out with 2 full English breakfasts with half of the stuff we don't like. Another couple came in 10 minutes later and was sat down and order taking correctly. Will not be returning to this place again. Management need to sort this out absolutely shocking. Service

Ordering our food took a while as there was only one member of staff taking the orders during a busy Saturday night shift. The gentleman that took our order remained pleasantly cheery and helpful never the less so can’t fault him! When the food came it was missing some ingredients which were shown in the menu description when I questioned this I was told ‘oh sorry we’ve run out’ but it wasn’t pointed out beforehand. I had a chicken burger which was charred on the top but the middle was pink and completely raw throughout. I did receive a refund and the waitress was very apologetic but food wise it was an absolute shambles.

Unfortunately asked for a beer, was given a cider (was not busy at the bar) when I advised it was wrong and asked for him to repour the man behind the bar was adiment he had poured a beer and begrudgingly poured correctly this time. Have been previously and no issues but common that *not all* staff are welcoming, some staff are actually very nice. Children's food was a good price and the dinner portion was a good side. Children's spaghetti Bolognese was surprisingly flavourful and was a very large portion, 10/10 ! Starter of garlic bread was one very small slice (a little overcooked) so bit of a waste of money. 3/10 However a showstopper of a Pudding with the brownie and ice cream ! It was a fantastic size, and was a 10/10 from them ( and dad ! ) presentation, was also a solid 10/10 no complaints there. Food was brought out very fast (chef mike?) Staff collected dinner and brought out pudding and we weren't waiting with empty plates Infront of us. Children's play area was clean and tidy and not sticky, so attention has clearly been paid by the staff cleaning it. There's a £1 vending machine with small toys, and a 'prize every time' claw machine for £1 a pop. There's a toddler area and also a "older" child's area. Lovely little indoor play area as long as parents are supervising The floor and tables and fabric chairs in the 'family' seating area really did need cleaning (why put carpet and fabric seating in the family area?) As various vegetables and foodstuffs were mashed into the floor and beans in the crevices of the chairs. It wasn't for lack of staff as three were chatting to eachother casually, definitely felt uncomfortable asking them to come and wipe the table and use the broom on the floor, and the response was like it was an inconvenience (Shouldn't have had to ask really, they definitely had time if they were chatting) The hotel door into the restaurant is in the family area and if you're unlucky enough to be seated by it you may just get people walking in and out. The toilet is between the family area and the children's play area, so you can often get people coming by. The baby change toilet isn't wheelchair accessible. Didn't feel like the positioning of the tables and chairs in the family area were considerate of a wheelchair user or had accessibility in mind and would likely need to stand up to mind out the way if a person with accessibility needs wanted to use the bathroom, go to a table, or supervise a child in the family area. Will definitely go back again, we just know we have to keep an open mind about staffs mindsets about working in catering/ hospitality. It's giving : Charlie Chalks

We like staff was an amazing, very serious about allergies. Everything was good and tasty view next to the window was nice, clean and tidy dining area. I missed a bit more options to eat like hams or something meat ..

We stood for about 4 or 5 minutes before anyone sat us down and after ordering I can believe how quick the food came out. Most of it was cold so it was as if someone else ordered it but didn't want it. Its impossible to cook that quick and go cold in 10 minutes. Never go here again it was ridiculous. 1-10

Good location with free parking. Beside the sea. Good pub food. Main menu not served till 12 however, but breakfast earlier.

Busy bank holiday but still good food with great service and atmosphere. Always good value for money.

We are always looked after by Dez, Patryk and their staff. We come back nearly every month to enjoy great food, banter and hospitality. Even when things do go off keel, a speedy solution is always offered. Lovely to enjoy a great meal while watching the ferries go by.

Went down the beach with a few friends and came down here for a few drinks afterwards. Great service from Ryan who made it all even more worth it !!

Went here for lunch early march. Cold soggy chips and warm wilted side salad. Man who took my order who I believe was duty manager was rude. He asked how we wanted the steak done. I said well done and he made a face and said yuk. I had the unlimited hot drinks and decided to have hot chocolate but only hot water and milk came out so I spoke to same man again. He tutted and told me I have to add chocolate powder myself from a tub that was nowhere near the drinks machine and no sign on machine telling you this. How are customers meant to know this? I did contact brewers fayre on line but as usual no one replied so I wrote a letter of complaint and posted it but no one has bothered to reply. Very bad company.

Nayan is extremely helpful; go this restaurant once for the beach vibe.
