Disappointing visit this time. Waited 20 mins for fresh fish which was OK as I agreed to this. Batter was really nice, fish seemed a bit dry though. Chips didn't seen fresh seeing as I had been there so long seemed chips had been waiting 20 minutes in their box like I had. Curry sauce was OK but being freshly made hadn't had time to developed.

This chip shop has come on leaps and bounds, fish cooked to order,always hot when you get home (unlike some other chip shops!) Has some good food deals on,especially the kids options! good choice of food ie burgers,pies,sausages and scrumps only 20p per bag! Bang tidy!! .Disabled entrance,parking to the rear (small car park)

This was my 1st visit to Charlie's & I was hungry! So, I ordered quite possibly the most amazing cod & chips I have tasted in a very, very long while. The chop shop is very much welcoming, the staff truly amazing. And the prices are very reasonable. I will definitelybe makinga return visit soon 😍.

Tasty food, large amount of food provided equalling good value, service I found slow with no reason given by staff as to why I was kept waiting, that's just a minor issue in the grand scheme of things

New owners and new services sta waited only about 5 minutes as chips were cooking. Busy so can expect that. Friendly service was a problem at all. Talked to new ower, very pleasant. Chips were like the curry lush. Rice was a tad dry, but tasty all in all. Highly recommend , Irish curry rice and chips. Pickled egg.

First time been there in yrs. Chips were the best chips I've had in long time.lush.Loads of chips ,quick and friendly service.

If your looking for old school fish & chips look no further, (please note for those unaware fish contains bones and skin) and not frozen minced up processed white meat with preservatives and additives. If you want to taste how our national dish should be this is the place!

My sister-in-law bought us all pies, chips curry, etc. Everyone enjoyed.

Ordered haddock and chips, cod and chips, two fishcakes and chips curry sauce battered sausage 3 pineapple fritters. When they arrived the chips looked liked they were dinner times not very warm the fish was ok the pineapple fritters were very greasy my order came last night at 19.00pm. I have had fish and chips from you before the chips was lovely and wrapped in paper not take away boxes.

The food is always fresh & warm. Staff are friendly & we never have to wait too long. They're no shy with the serving of chips either 👍

First visit one evening had chicken and mushroom pie and chips.. Large chips more than enough for two. Nice chips but pie bit tasteless.

Much wider food choice than many a chippie. Good value with generous servings and very fresh.

First visit. The chicken breast was wonderfully generous and moist. Friendly service!

Not used the chippy for years, but heard the new owners were local so popped in after watching the county lose.. great customer service from everyone behind the jump . Good sized portions, reasonably priced… spotlessly clean… just what the doctor ordered after another home defeat.. fish, chips, pies and curry sauce all well received and old skool SCRUMPS !!!..will definitely be back and highly recommend..

Edit:- the chippy now has new owners, very lovely people, not only that, they now have SCRUMPS, back to my childhood. Very clean, food is lovely and staff are polite and will have a laugh with you..its a bonus now that they accept card payments over £5. This chippy comes highly recommended.

What a fantastic chip shop, new owners are fabulous and it was great to be offered a bag of scrumps for the kids to try. Order taking was accurate and reasonably priced. Overall highly recommended to all.

Fish was terrible and chips were mediocre at best

Customer service from the young girl up there is NON EXISTENT. She looks at you like you’re interrupting her life , there’s no please or thank you. Up there tonight and ordered fish and chips and sausage and chips for someone to come in after me and have my fish given to them and left me waiting for nearly 20 mins. Always been a fan but rapidly going off them. Previously mentioned her attitude to one of the other team members to looked at like I swore at him. Really poor service.

So sad to review with such a middle range review. This has gone from a favourite chip stop. To one that I dread. The standard of cooking the chips is rubbish one day and only acceptable, the next. It is so bad that I will only purchase from here once in a while to see if things have gotten better. For a chippy fan, this is hard to write. I don't recommend this chippy to my relatives when they visit. More MISS than Hit lately.

The best fish and chips in the area and cooked fresh

Ordered a large chips and two battered sausages. Good proportion sizes but the sausages tasted dry. Probably pass on visiting this place again.

We had chips from there tonight and really enjoyed them. My husband have told me about this place and I finally got to taste the chips and I would say they are the best I have tasted for a long time and will definitely go back

Wouldn't go there again. Expensive menu and small portions. Ordered a large cod and it was smaller than a small!! Never had so many bones in my life on a cod. Also no batter on the fish and I couldn't eat most of it due to all the bones and making me feel sick. Chips were all scraps and bruised and black too!! Curry sauce was nice though but still an awful meal.

Great, freshly cooked Cod is superb and the chips are quality. Must be one of the cleanest, most hygienic chippies in Newport, they are forever cleaning.

Stopped here for a curry half and half. Fairly standard fare and perfectly acceptable but at £7.95 for a curry in a tray and a can of pop I felt it was a little pricey.

The chips are just rubbish I took them back other stuff just dryed out real poor quality , got my money back , Staff were very unpleasant when I complained , And there covid rules just don't exist that the first reason for not going back people walking in wandering around no Masks on and the staff just stand there and serve them , they are coughing over everything there and staff just let them get on with it

Stopped for cod and chips on way home from hospital. Freshly cooked, piping hot, excellent fish and good chips! Very clean and friendly atmosphere. Would highly recommend.

Chips were very bland no taste to them and fishcakes were hard and dry. Wouldnt go here again or reccommend to ANYONE

On our way home, we decided fish and chips would be a good idea and CJ's just happened to be there. Turned out to be an inspired choice as it was the best we'd had in a very long time. Crisp chips, crispy batter on skinned fish. All cooked fresh to order. We'll done them, we'll be back. Ps car park is a little tight but very forgivable.

Just had cod and chips and a curry sauce.... The chips and sauce were OK but unfortunately all 3 pieces of cod were wet with soft wet batter.... Wish I'd taken the trouble to drive a little further and gone to salt and vinegar Instead

Thoroughly enjoyed the Chicken Curry and Chips. The Chicken and chips were cooked perfect and the Irish Curry Sauce has a brilliant taste. Recommended.

The worst fish I've ever had in my life. Skin left on and literally dozens of bones. Chips weren't great either. At £13.60 for 2 people quite pricey too. Never ever will I return. Shocking

Let down last time by bad chips. Fish was passable. Despite being really hungry, I threw away the chips. At those prices people deserve better.

Would have loved it if the fish was skinned but the batter was superb ! 🐟
