CJ'S Coffee House & Tearoom in Warrington

I love CJ'S I sometimes dine in or takeaway always happy with all aspects, have also had an afternoon tea delivered which was very good as I could choose the sandwich filling and cakes, also had plain scones rather than fruit. XX

What a lovely little cafe, very friendly, warm feeling. Food was lovely and the Biscoff Rocky Road..... amazing! (And made in house as are all the sweet delights).

Today we made our first visit to CJs and we loved it! The food and drink were excellent and the service was too. Its a small place and I'm pretty sure it's often busy but we got a table (plus they offer take away) and were thoroughly looked after .... we'll be back!

My family favourite cafe. Getting a seat isn't always easy due to its size, but it's a very welcoming spot.

It’s been quite a while since I have last visited, and the quality of absolutely everything has not dipped in the slightest. The place is always clean and clear, with a comfortable atmosphere and welcoming owners serving fresh food and kind, sincere service. I highly recommend visiting for breakfast or lunch whenever you are available - you will enjoy the experience. But you may have to schedule your visit if you plan on afternoon tea - it can be busy for good reason!

Run by genuinely great people, sadly couldn't go due to lockdown but will definitely be back in soon!

Nice feel in this coffee shop, no rush food excellent, they go out of their way to look after you, a great couple who work hard and have come through the covid period.

Full disclosure - I'm a regular and a huge fan of CJ's, which most definitely colours my opinion. However, I'm a huge fan for good reason. These guys never seem to have a bad day - the service is always outstanding and the food is delicious. Last week I booked afternoon tea as a 50th birthday treat for a friend. Now, if you want one of those dainty looking afternoon teas with adorable little cakes, this is not the place for you. They do not muck about - when they say cake they really mean it! And OMG what incredible cakes. The lemon cake in particular was to die for. The food was beautifully presented, with a good selection of sandwiches, freshly made scones alongside 3 of Ben's show stopping cakes (did I mention the lemon one?). Prices are very reasonable and the whole place is spotlessly clean - really couldn't ask for more. Oh, and they provide takeaway boxes for the inevitable leftovers... I keep trying but I've never yet managed to polish off one of their afternoon teas in a single go!

We visited for afternoon tea and had such a lovely experience. The quality and presentation of the sandwiches and desserts was wonderful. I really liked that each person got their own individual cake stand rather than one in the middle for everyone to take from. No arguments about who's having the egg mayo! The coffee was wonderful too. The team are wonderful and really looked after us. Their little apprentice is a very hard worker! 😊 Many of our local afternoon tea spots have started to use shop bought produce for afternoon teas but CJ's clearly takes pride in preparing their own sandwiches and desserts which sets them apart from others. The rocky road was especially delicious! Thank you CJ's, we will be back!

Absolutely great little place. Delicious food, lovely friendly staff who made up so welcome. Great prices. Recommend you book as only small. Will be going back very soon.

Probably the best place currently in Warrington for both coffee and a good old English breakfast. Friendly and humble, and the quality of the ingredients and cooking is second to none. I think the coffee is their own blend and it's amazing.

We visited CJ’s for a breakfast after lots of recommendations from friends. Safe to say it more than lived up to its reputation and the service and food was top notch- well worthy of the trip advisor review score. Friendly atmosphere and excellent for value for money. We will certainly be returning in the near future 😊 As an espresso drinker the coffee was as good as I’ve had in a long time.

Was really impressed with the service and food served yesterday. Took my daughter-in-law as part of her birthday treat. The home made scones and cakes were even better than the variety of veggie sandwiches plus unlimited drinks, hot chocolate, tea and coffee.

Great vibe, friendly owners, and best of all - comforting good food! The scones are a must-try, the omelette was just the right amount of fluffy and not too greasy, and we really enjoyed the barm with runny egg. Would definitely go there again for their afternoon tea sometime!

This is a real gem of a café. My partner and I went for afternoon tea, which was not only delicious but great value for money. In addition the staff were so welcoming and friendly. They really can’t do enough for you. I would highly recommend this place.

Being a regular customer and huge fan of CJs, I decided to try out their catering service for my daughter's end of term party. As expected, it was absolutely brilliant. We needed sandwiches with a specific range of fillings which included some vegetarian and halal options, both of which Ben was happy to accommodate. As always, he spent lots of time checking details with me to ensure that everything was perfect. The food was beautifully presented and very reasonably priced (actually slightly cheaper than some supermarket services, with the added advantage that it is freshly made and you can specify the fillings and type of bread you want). We also ordered an entire chocolate brownie... this was not cheap (I suspect because of the quality of the ingredients), but oh my gosh was it worth it. Anyone who has experienced the wonder of a CJs brownie will know what I mean... My only regret is that I didn't get a picture before my hungry party guests fell upon it, but the speed with which it was demolished tells its own story! Would definitely recommend.

The article in the Warrington Guardian featuring CJ's as one of the best places in Warrington for breakfast has prompted me to write another review. SInce my first review in 2019, we have been regular visitors to CJ's, taking our grandchildren there for a treat once a week, and the boys love it just as much as we do. Alison and Ben are delightful, friendly hosts who cannot do enough for their guests. Full English is amazing, and there is a great range of choice for breakfasts, and an amazing selection of food and desserts throughout the day. We really must try the afternoon tea again, as it was outstanding. CJ's is a Warrington gem. See you Tuesday morning, Alison and Ben.

We called in a week ago for a coffee and sandwich over lunchtime. The coffee was so good, I kept thinking I was in Europe, as in all honesty I have never had coffee this good in the UK. The food was good too. So, yesterday we called again, possibly thinking we would be disappointed this time, but no! It was just as good, if not better. Furthermore, my hot sandwich (eggs) were cooked to perfection. So, will we be back? You bet we will!

We are huge fans of CJs, so took some friends there for afternoon tea. As always, food and service were outstanding. Afternoon tea includes a good selection of sandwiches (which they are happy to adjust for various dietary requirements if you let them know when you book), freshly made scones and some of the best cakes you're every going to taste (the lemon and raspberry cake is worth a visit all on its own). Portions are generous too - none of this nonsense with dainty little cakes, theirs are proper fill-your-face-greedy-person size. The owners Ben and Alison are both lovely and go far out of their way to make sure everything is perfect, including providing takeaway containers for your leftovers (we've never yet managed to finish an afternoon tea here, but we are determined to keep trying!). I'm always cautious about recommending places to eat in case they don't quite live up to expectations, but I have no such concerns with CJs. They are unfailingly brilliant, definitely worth a visit.

Nice little place. Nice food but there is a bit of a wait for food. It seems to be popular. The girl serving was very polite and friendly.

I visited CJ'S today and they serve the Best flat white in Warrington. It is by far the best around in my opinion. Also I had the Mexican pannini really good. Highly recomend a visit here. Book in advance to avoid dissapointment. Peter

Visited this morning with my wife and baby, gorgeous food! The sausages were so good my baby ate them and he never wants to have sausages! Very plesent and outgoing owners, couldn't of asked for a better morning there. We enjoyed it that much we bought a voucher for afternoon tea for my aunties birthday. We will Definitely be returning again, thankyou.

Called in for lunch, we hadn't been for some time, so glad we did. The welcome from Alison, who quickly prepared the table just vacated by previous clients, was excellent. The food arrives quickly post orders placed, is very tasty, presentable and great value. The flat white coffee is also the best I've had for a while. Ben and Alison will always make time for a chat too in between taking and delivering orders. Penketh is very lucky to have this coffee shop on the doorstep.

I'm so glad I picked this place as my first afternoon tea. Myself and my mum received generous portions of various cakes and sandwiches, with such a cute set of cups, saucers and teapot for our tea. When I had mentioned we'd come as it was my 31st the previous day, they even popped a lit candle in the scone, which was such a nice little touch (thank you for not singing 😊). The staff were all lovely, so I'd definitely come back in future. Definitely beats any of the franchise cafes.

Booked a table for afternoon tea and could not have been happier with the whole experience! Fantastic food - lush cakes, wonderful sandwiches, huge scones and really tasty strawberries. The bottomless drinks was an excellent touch too. Fantastic friendly service - we could not have been made to feel more welcome from the moment we walked in the door to the moment we left. Fantastic atmosphere - warm, clean, happy, cosy cafe with lovely art on the walls. Fantastic value for money - one of the best value afternoon teas I’ve had. They even gave us tubs to take home the couple of cakes we didn’t manage to eat (don’t worry, they were devoured later in the day!) Fantastic communication - we messaged a few weeks before and got friendly kind and fast responses to our booking request. On the day, a few hours before our booking, we had to make a last minute change due to illness. They couldn’t have been more accommodating and helpful about it. Even boxed us up a takeaway afternoon tea to take home for my wife who was ill and couldn’t make it. Such a nice idea that I wouldn’t have thought to ask for. Whilst sitting chatting and enjoying our afternoon tea experience I noticed some amazing looking food being taken to other tables - breakfast looked sooo good! Definitely 5 stars from me for this little local gem ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This tiny little cafe in Penketh is absolutely my favourite place in the world to eat out. They get all the obvious stuff right, lovely food, reasonable prices, welcoming atmosphere, excellent coffee etc, but it's the extra efforts that make this place such a gem....

Had our breakfast at CJ’s again yesterday. Wonderful as usual, Ben and Alison are such great hosts and the food and coffee are consistently excellent. I know I’ve reviewed before but worth another one.

Forget the big chains.. these guys are the best, their coffee is better, their food is better, when you walk through their door you are greeted as a friend rather than their next order.. Penketh is very lucky to have such a lovely place. If you havent been you really should go.

Ben and Alison are fab. They look after all the customers as though they are friends. Love the coffee and that they have their own blend made. I have had bacon 🥓 and egg 🥚 barm on several occasions and it has always been fab. The scones with jam and cream are some of the best around. I quite often have them as a cake away.

I came to celebrate a birthday, awesome food, great service, coffee divine. Afternoon teas are amazing, cakes are incredible, love this place. Takeaways too, benches outside next door pub are great to sit at as it's closed

Had a beautiful and very tasty breakfast here this morning 31/08/20. Could not fault anything.Spotlessly clean. All COVID restrictions were in place.The owners were very pleasant and friendly.The breakfast was just perfect.We went as a family of 4 and a 1 year old. We had separate tables due to the current situation, which was a very good idea.Yes we will definitely return.

I love this little coffee house. They get their coffee specially blended for them.The cakes and scones are freshly baked every day. Their cherry scones are one of the best around.They can cater for everyone. They even offer gluten free, vegetarian and vegan. Also the milk is not only normal but you could ask for soya, coconut and oat.The service is fab. Everyone is very friendly.
