We’d been meaning to try this out for years and went as an extra anniversary lunch. The trainees serving us were trying so hard and were utterly charming. The food was very good too, when you consider the price it was well worth it. I’m sure we’ll be back soon.

I recommend this place highly. The food was good quality, well cooked and the presentation was very nice; most importantly it tasted good!. It is also amazing value for money. I am often disappointed by restaurants but I couldn't fault the food here. It was a nice touch that we met the chefs also and were encouraged to ask questions about the ingredients and preparation.

I can't recommend City View highly enough. We were completely blown away by the standard of the food produced. Fabulous value for money and a great opportunity to support these excellent student chefs. We had some feedback for the students on the night, but I have given a 5 star review here, because the issues were minuscule when compared to the level of brilliant food produced by these students. Loved the fact that the chefs came out of the kitchen at the end of the evening to ask us how we'd enjoyed our food. The student working on service needed a bit of a confidence boost, but I could not let that alter my overall view of things because, they are, after all, learning!

This restaurant is high on the hill in the Shooters Hill, Post 16 Campus in Red Lion Lane, Shooters Hill and offers amazing views over the city of London. City View restaurant is front of house outlet for the student chefs and offers a fantastic dining experience. The menus (usually) offer four courses, with a choice of main course. My wife and I have visited many times and introduced friends and family to City View, everyone of them has been impressed by the quality, taste and presentation of the food, with the bonus the of very, very reasonable prices for both food and drink! HIGHLIGHT: at the end of the evening the chefs come out and talk with the diners about which course they cooked and their aspirations. This restaurant is open for fine dining only on Thursday evenings. It is also open for lunch five days a week. Both are in term time, so booking is essential.

It was a real pleasure to go along and eat great food and support two smashing young chefs - they are definitely ones to watch - and the rest of the student team doing front of house. We hope they have great careers ahead of them, we think they'd be great on the telly! We very much enjoyed our food which was great value as well as being super tasty. We will definitely go again. It was dark when we were there but we suspect that there are great city views if you sit by the window. Please go along and support this great initiative.

I’m a bit reluctant to review this little gem as everyone will want to go. The effort put in by the students is commendable, producing some excellent quality, technically challenging dishes which were well presented and delicious. The house wine is very drinkable. Well done everyone.

I went here last night with my husband and had a great time. I love that not only is it student chefs cooking but also student wait staff. The students get a taste of working life and learn first hand experience why the customers enjoy the great customer service and delicious, well presented food. Even better the price is great value for money.

I had a fabulous evening at this great little restaurant. I had reservations as it’s set in a college but was pleasantly surprised to find It manages to attain an atmosphere that is intimate and professional. The food was well balanced and cooked to perfection, I couldn’t fault anything in all 4 courses. As for the staff?.......The young team were polite and attentive and the two chefs were amazing. I will definitely be attending again and highly recommend

What a fantastic 4 course feast! The student did an amazing job with all the dishes and such good value at £20 pp and the alcohol was very cheap too. The only let down was the desserts that weren’t homemade as they didn’t have enough students.

We attended a Thursday night fine dining event (nb only available term time) on recommendation from a friend. Everything is exactly as any good restaurant should be - table nicely laid; spotlessly clean; polite, friendly and attentive service. The set price of £20 per person cover 4 courses. Drinks are additional but very reasonable. A single serving 250ml bottle of wine £2.50. Our food was superb - a wonderful well seasoned veloute, second course of crab cakes maybe a little pasty but that could be the recipe, our skate and pork dishes beautifully cooked and desserts to die for. I overheard one of the other diners ask if the desserts were bought in as they looked so precise and professionally made. At the end there is the opportunity to chat to the young chefs about the dishes they had prepared which was interesting and informative. Finally we were fortunate to have a window seat overlooking the twinkling lights of canary wharf.

This little gem of a restaurant is fabulous. As part of the post 16 curriculum, student prepare fine dining, serve their delicious food and you can also have wine or cocktails.I have eaten here a few times and am returning next week. The food is as good as any I have been served in top restaurants - I have eaten in most of Gordon Ramsay's. We paid a little more than you could pay for a entree for 3 courses and wine.I would highly recommend this restaurant for lunch or dinner - just one drawback - the students are nearing the end of their course for this year so the restaurant is only open for a few more weeks until September!

I have eaten here on many occasions with friends and family. The food is well presented and has amazing flavour and at a more than reasonable price. We must not forget that this is a college and we are supporting students to gain experience and learn their trade. To that end some people need to remember that and tone down their pompous remarks.

Located in a brutal concrete building, the approach is somewhat daunting. And the room cannot escape its classroom past. Our waitress was quiet to start with but she blossomed somewhat as she realised we were not ogres. It has to be said - although it soon becomes apparent - that waiting is not an element of the course the students are on. And it shows. My pigeon breast salad with a mustard dressing was correctly cooked. The fish platter included a crisp and tasty smoked haddock fish cake and an unctious piece of cod. The mushy peas weren't and the flaccid fries were not up to it. The menu promised chips. Does nobody these days know what a proper chip looks like. Mrs J's aubergine stuffed with mince together with bulgar wheat looked and tasted good. We managed dessert. One from the trolley - yes an actual dessert trolley. A somewhat tired looking fruit salad; proper cheesecake and a chocolate tart. Rhubarb is in season so I went off trolley for a rather bland crumble with very good sauce Anglaise. The wine list is more than reasonably priced. Our 500ml carafe of white was room temperature. At least I got one of our best beers - what else but London Pride. And speaking of London, the view from here is mostly bleak Essex but, if you sit at the table nearest the door you might catch a glimpse of the Shard between the trees.City View is undeniably good value but, as you would expect, it's pot luck as to the quality of what emerges from the kitchen. The Vincent Rooms it is not.

Our group of 19 people were booked to enjoy lunch here today, which is exactly what we did! Our three course meal with wine (or soft drinks) was only £12.00 per head. The very reasonable price is because the food is prepared and served by the third year students, thus giving them experience of real-life paying customers! Our meal was well presented, tasted good and was served with a smile. My only criticism would be that the people having the veggie main course had to wait longer for their plates to be put in front of them. Basically just a timing issue that can be sorted.Overall though, a very good lunch.

I've been to City View a few times, and again last night. We had four courses for £20 a head, and the standard was excellent. This is a restaurant where third-year catering students get to show their skills, under the watchful eye of a professional chef. We had soup, mackerel, a main (lamb shank was melt-in-mouth) and a choice of desserts. It's also licensed. £4 for a half-litre carafe of excellent wine. And the view is lovely!

Visited for lunch, with 3 choices for all 3 courses, all served attractively, tasting delicious and excellent value for money. Great view of the City, despite a rather cloudy day. The only waitress did make this fact clear - but she could have done with more help: all tables were in use by the time I lef at 2.30. Coffee is served by default but 2 of my group of 9 wanted tea. They managed to get the waitress's attention eventually - and the (admittedly honest) reply was: 'When I get the chance'. Again - more help needed. Anyway - great visit overall and hope to be back later in the year. The 'fine dining' dinner sounds tempting!!

This is within a catering college. Lunch is served Tuesday to Friday , and each Thursday there is a set 5 course " fine dining " dinner. The meal was chilled watercress soup with warm ravioli, mixed fried fish , best end of lamb, rhubarb crumble and coffee and petit fours. The food was good and the service excellent. The student chefs were presented to the diners at the end of the meal for a well deserved round of applause, and they then circulated to discuss the food and their plans for their futures. All this for £20 a head , and for fellow drinkers, the wine starts at £7 a bottle, but we splashed out on a Chilean Sauvignon Blanc for £8.50!
