Great service and good choice with options other than roasts on a Sunday.

Stopped here for dinner after a very pleasant walk along the river. All our food was lovely , sea bass, fish and chips, cheese burger and chicken Kiev. Pleasant efficient staff. Very dog friendly. Lovely to sit and watch the river on a beautiful evening.Very enjoyable first visit to the area

Food and the service were excellent. The menu had a good selection as was the wine choices. The pub itself is a great venue with views over the river.

Not like our usual visits at all. Understaffed in kitchen and table service as everything was slow and mostly miserable/hassled. The chicken Kiev must have been bought in as it was unattractive and dry. Very disappointing that the good weather appears to have caught them unawares. The Swan is now far superior and our new ‘go-to’.

I recently dined with friends and had an exceptional experience. The dishes were absolutely delicious and of high quality. It had been a long time since we had enjoyed such exquisite cuisine. The chef has an excellent sense of taste. Nothing was overly salted, and everything was perfectly seasoned. We were all thoroughly impressed. We give it five stars. We highly recommend it and will definitely be returning.

Food was delicious, and the service very good, fabulous ambiance, they didn't rush me. The fish and chips were on a visit to England in late September 2023. The lamb was from a visit to England in late June to July. Everything was so fabulous I just had to go back again. I hope to go back to the City Barge next visit and have the Sunday roast and also have a walk along the beautiful waterfront.

Pubs that only take payment by card should have this writ LARGE on their door and on their menus! Why wait until it comes to time to pay the bill to say "I'm sorry, we only take payment by card"? Well I'm sorry, I only make payment by cash. I understand the benefits of only taking card payments but they should make this clear before they take orders otherwise it leads to an embarrassing experience at the end of an otherwise pleasant afternoon. For this sole reason I will never return and I will never recommend.

Cosy little pub, great view of the Thames out the front and another seating area in the back, with a really good amount of weekly events. Good selection of ales, ciders, and spirits too.

Guests of a local friend. Lovely setting back and front with tables in the late afternoon sunshine near the entrance. Riverside table was a perfect spot to view eights and the tube line running west over a character bridge. Could be on a mooring. Food okay But why put sage into a pomme anna. It's such a strong herb so bound to incur a reaction.

Good roast dinner with my 3 boys on Father’s Day. A bit pricey at £35 for the set menu for 2 courses but kind of expected given the day.

Food is amazing esp the Fish & Chips + Sticky Toffee Pudding! Except the Raspberry Tiramisu was unfortunately not good. Service could be improved. The waitresses rarely made eye contact so it was hard to get their attention.

Been going to this pub ( on and off ) for many years. As a Beatles fan this pub is significant to me because the Beatles came here in 1965 to film scene's here for their Help! movie. When they re released Help! on DVD we held a party here to celebrate that event and we invited actor Victor Spinetti ( he appeared in virtually all the Beatles films) to come to our party. And he did. So yes I do love this pub

Overall, it was not a pleasant experience. All the staff seemed to be having a bad day, not a smile in sight and just poor service.

Me and my friends had a lovely meal at the City Barge, the food was delicious and the atmosphere was perfect. We willi be back

Service was decent enough and the atmosphere was great, as one would expect on a lovely sunny evening by the river. HOWEVER, the food was a disgrace. How they can justify serving a burger with a patty full of gristle, served with a slice of tomato and one gherkin, with a small side of bland frozen fries for £18 I’ll never know. We paid £60 for two glasses of wine, a pint and two burgers (after the Chiswick calendar card discount had been applied). Le Vacherin restaurant the other side of Chiswick offers a 3 course menu for half this! Pubs complain they are losing business and struggling to survive, yet they seem to be the creators of their own demise.

Very unpleasant rude dark haired man behind the bar. Made me and my 11 year old feel very unwelcome. Unnecessary when you just want to order a beer and some chips. Other staff apologised for his behaviour which was nice. Won’t be back though. Shame as it’s a lovely location.

Food terrible. Chicken kyev overcooked & dry, tiramisu was so hard it was hard to grt your spoon into the desert so i didn’t eat it. Service good & the waiter comped my desert without being prompted

We held my mum’s 60th birthday party in the private event room upstairs and had the most wonderful experience. Ian was fantastic leading up to the event helping get everything organised and answering numerous questions in a really helpful and speedy way. Then Reggie was fantastic at making sure we had everything we needed on the night. The food (canapés from the buffet menu) was fantastic and loved by all and the staff were all super lovely and helpful. Thank you so much for helping to make it such a special evening!

Had an excellent staff member who I believe was a manager called Reggie. It was my first time in awhile in a pub and I was immediately made to feel like a regular due to the warm welcoming atmosphere. Reggie recommended me a lovely French Chardonnay. Before I left, I ordered a coffee And it came with a pleasant surprise of a bear design in the milk of my flat white! Would highly recommend and will definitely be coming back.

I used to love this pub. The past couple of times I came they mixed up my order. It feels like a two tier service. Regulars get well looked after while the rest of us have to wait.

I staged my 70th birthday party here, booking the whole pub exclusively - indoors and outside - for 6 hours last Saturday, noon till 6pm with a pay bar. The City Barge team were fantastic and cooked a delicious meal for 125 people. Everyone had a great time and I would highly recommend the pub in every way. Many of my guests stayed on till closing time after the pub had re-opened to the public.

Still like this place but menu has recently gone downhill. Still visit, still like it, but now just a cheap burger or fish and chips instead of restaurant fare. Hope it improves.

Hi Ian I just wanted to thank you and your team for helping me enjoy a wonderful birthday afternoon the other day. The room was just right, the food excellent and the service brilliant. It was terrific to have somewhere we could share with our kids and my 96-year-old dad that was comfortable, interesting and accessible. Great also that you offer such tasty and varied options for the vegans in my family (although I notice my “vegan” dad went for fish and chips 😃).

Loved it as always. Food is great, staff are friendly and always fun to talk to, location by the river is spectacular and Ian’s sommelier background always ensures the best quality wine and drinks.

A great place to be 'stranded' by the high tide in. Their own 'Argy Bargy' session ale in VERY quaffable!

The service was exceptional, swift, and efficient, complemented by delicious food. We indulged in Sunday lunch, savoring ample portions of both pork and beef, accompanied by a generous serving of vegetables. Without a doubt, we'll be returning for more.

I've been here for meals a couple of times and must say that the food has never disappointed. Every dish is packed with flavour and the staff is friendly and helpful.

We met friends at this riverside pub for lunch and watching the 6 Nations. It's a big place and full of life with tasty & wide menu, good service and good selection of beers & wines.

Took my elderly parents who have challenges with mobility. The restaurant staff were great and very accommodating. Food was good. Bar staff were very helpful. Whole experience was very comfortable and stress free. I will be returning

The welcome was warm and our pre-request for a quieter table had accommodated. Unfortunately our wait between starter and main course was not acceptable (nearly 30 mins). We were told as our starter plates were being cleared that mains would be right along. Nobody let us know differently and I had to track down a server to ask what was going on. They were really busy, but it was a Saturday so I’m sure that’s not unusual. No apology or deduction from the bill. I would go back as long I don’t have other plans, and not with elderly parents who can’t do such a long lunch.

Authentic pub from the old days. Excellent service and great food. I had the roast beef sandwich and it was very good with a dab of mustard and some Mayo. The fries that came with it were top notch.

On top of its game. Exquisite squid starter beautifully presented and a pan fried hake dish par excellence. My daughter liked her Caesar salad with charred broccoli and the mushroom risotto was excellent. Nice atmosphere and always easy to get a lunch table before a Brentford match…as I regularly do!

Apart from the fish an chips all our meals were not good. Ciabatta and chicken hard and chewy with one slice of tomato and small bit of lettuce Hake, the leeks were hard and there was no additional veg The pavlova was hard and very dry We have had much better sticky toffee pudding elsewhere The service charge of 12 1/2 % a bit too much for mediocre service The bill of £190 was a lot of money for very poor meals. We have been here quite a few times over the years and it’s been fine. Definitely gone downhill and won’t be recommending or returning

Great pints and friendly service

Initially thought this place was a fullers pub, beer flat, white wine warm, food very average, later after speaking to the very nice girl that served us, was told it was Greene King, all was clear after that revelation, owned by the serial murderers of the British pub and restaurant scene.

Fab situation on a sunny day with sunny tables on the footpath. Staff initially a bit slow at reception but service at bar was good and the rest of the service was great. Extensive wine list and good white burgundy for £40. Food great and all in all a good experience

It’s a nice pub overall and nice Sunday atmosphere. I think Sunday menu can be improved we had a member who usually likes fish and there was no fish main course option which is pretty standard these days. Also the Sunday roast was ok I wouldn’t go back for it I have definitely had way better. I think the beef can be improved. Thank You

Great Sunday roast in a friendly pub by the river. The roasts weren't cheap but I had lots of meat and it was very tasty. My friend is fussy about having well done beef and the kitchen got it right.

Great food. Great location. Service couldn’t have been friendlier or more more efficient. But as a result of ‘the rugby on the TV’ that afternoon - not flagged at time of booking online with Open Table rather than by phone - slightly off putting to be placed under a loud TV when there were lots of empty tables (albeit ‘reserved) elsewhere in a room still largely empty when we left an hour later. Quite understand the challenge of filling a room efficiently on special event days. This is as more a reflection on the limitations of online booking than on the team at City Barge, who were very warm, welcoming and on the ball. So a thumbs up overall .

This place! Always a hit with us. Great atmosphere, attentive staff ( always visible and helpful). A cozy pub that hits higher with its atmosphere and service. Lots of seating choices, including outdoor.

We had a Saturday lunch in the dining room at The City Barge. Food was very good and service excellent. Only drawback was the sound of the Rugby game on the television which was very loud but it was a Six Nations Game and customers come to watch the game.

This fabulous historic pub on the Thames has a great modern menu and provides great service. Go for the view and stay for the irresistible dark chocolate mousse.

Once again, a great meal and, although busy, no pressure and relaxing. I really loved the cauliflower soup, really good flavours. Certainly will return again!
