Definitely not papadelle agnello ragu! Chunks of meat (cubes) is tourist food. Worst customer service I've had in a long time - staff were rude and argumentative.

Marvellous food. Cabonara was great. Garlic bread with mozzarella was excellent. Am going back there again. Pls do give this restaurant a try.

The food is very ordinary. I ordered calamari. I felt like I had never eaten sponge. I ordered pizza and pasta with oysters. I fell in love with the oysters in my stomach. They tasted bad. I could not finish a plate.. and I saw that they were giving other tables bread and other things as starters, and we were not 😀

Visited here as it was close by to the hotel myself and my partner stayed at during our stay in magical Edinburgh. Just looking in the window you can tell that the food here is good. Fresh pastries, gelato of delicious flavours and snacks adorn the front window. We had a pastry at lunchtime and decided to head back for dinner that evening. The menu is adequate without being over-bearing. Traditional and rustic Italian cuisine is served on the dinner menu. For starters we had a selection of Antipasti which came with a selection of cold Italian meats and slices of mozzarella cheese and fresh olives with garlic oil. For main course my partner decided to go with the classic Carbonara, which was creamy and the pasta was perfectly cooked. I decided to go for one of their Mare Pizzas, which had cooked Prawns, Calimari and Mussels, along with fresh rocket. This pizza was savoury and full of seafood without that over-bearing "fishy" taste. For dessert my partner decided to go with Banoffi pie which was very rich and creamy and this was a bit of a turn-off but... That wasn't the restaurant's fault. I myself chose two scoops of ice-cream, one Passionfruit Pie and the other was classic Limoncello, which was very light and refreshing after a lovely meal. Along with one drink each of a fragrant Italian red wine and a Gin & Tonic, the total bill came to just under £80, which we thought was very reasonable considering the food was great, and the servers were attentive without being pushy. Overall Rating: 4 🌟

Personally, it was better than the milk bar. If it weren't for the mint chocolate I ate on the last day, I would have eaten it again.

Some friends and I booked a table for 4pm to eat before a show at the Edinburgh Festival. Food was cold, perhaps because the waiter came with the food and then realised that we had no cutlery on the table, had to take food away until he had set the table. Pasta was undercooked. We ordered coffees which had still not arrived 20 minutes later when we left for our show. Over priced for disappointing food and disappointing service.

Little Italy in Edinburgh. Excellent attention from Franco and all the waiters. The food was exquisite, I would definitely return a thousand times.

Festival time so was rammed, created good atmosphere but the service team was ran off its feet - so although friendly, was very slow. Food when I came was fine. Nothing spectacular, but enjoyable enough. Portions, especially pasta, are smallish so you need 3 courses.

I ordered pasta with shrimp, squid, and mussels in tomato sauce, but the noodles and sauce were served separately. I didn't think the noodles were even cooked, but I was still hungry, so I ate it. I guess the sauce doesn't go well on this side, but I heard the carbonara was delicious so I should have ordered that... It was my first dinner in Edinburgh... But the friendly waiter told me to eat quickly and leave even though I was fully booked.

The worst cannolo of my life. No longer crispy and the filling is much too firm. And that for 4.95.

Lovely place, lovely food, lovely people

We went here before a fringe show at the Edinburgh Festival - a really good chance to catch them at their busiest. Most tables were occupied but amazingly we were treated to first class service throughout and really prompt excellent food. The owner’s family just had a complete grip on everything which meant really fresh tasty food including a fabulous Mille fueille from the dessert selection Really had a great time - strongly recommend Thanks to the Family - you’ve really cracked a great fringe performance

The worst minestrone soup we ever tasted. Weird watery taste with massive chunks of vegetables that were tasteless. The bruschetta wasn’t much better.

Great Italian restaurant. The atmosphere was vibrant as it is clearly a popular place. Service was unhurried and relaxed. Very friendly people. Food delicious with good portions. We come every year and will definitely be back.

Three of us came to Ciao Roma for lunch yesterday. We were in Edinburgh for the festival and have eaten here previously . The restaurant was so busy but we were shown to a spacious table. Our order for food and drinks was taken by a lovely waitress. All the staff were so friendly even though they were obviously very busy! Lots of large tables with big orders,all managed so well. The atmosphere was fabulous everyone chatting and enjoying their food and drinks. We all had pasta and shared a focaccia with a lovely chilled bottle of Pinot Grigio. The food was delicious as was the wine! So thank you Ciao Roma for enhancing our visit to Edinburgh again. We will be back soon

It was absolutely slammed when I went, the staff seemed overwhelmed but the food was fast and delicious.

Very good staff and tasty food. Just popped in on way to a show and enjoyed a really nice meal. Just pizza and pasta but both good. Nice reasonably priced wine and to finish a fabulous panna cotta. Will pop in again

This place was delicious. We went there for my birthday on a recommendation. The dessert was so good too. We would go back again.

The Ravioli order was not as expected compared with other Italian restaurants.

Absolutely disgusting service from the owner. We left before we could order because of how rude the owner was to us when we sat down. Won’t ever return, recommend avoiding. Looking at other reviews, the customer service seems to be terrible for everyone. Clear to us why they haven’t won an award in over 5 years…

Had 2 pizza which were pretty bland. Base was too firm and the cheese and tomato base very thin and tasteless.Overall much much better places in Edinburgh for pizza

We wanted to eat cakes, drink some coffee and other drinks, but a man didn't let us inside and didn't let us sit on normal chairs. He said it's a restaurant inside, so we should sit directly next to the door, where it was cold and windy, that's why we went directly out and had a fun somewhere else :) So they lost minimum 50 pounds

Rarely I write reviews of restaurants but I have to review this experience because it was definitely horrible and not worth at all. We had lunch and it was unbelievable, I went with a friend because we read positive reviews of the place but we realized that it was really worst than what we expected. First we ordered a gluten free pizza that was similar or almost the same as a frozen one, with poor cheese and toppings quality, not as Italians normally do it. Secondly we ordered mixed grilled fish and this second dish was absolutely almost uneatable: the squid resembled rubber, the prawns were obviously not fresh and so much cooked that you barely could remove the skeleton from them to eat the meat. But the worst part was the Salmon, supposedly Scottish fresh salmon. What actually we found was that the smallest piece of this salmon stunk as rotten and we barely avoid a food intoxication. The check was ridiculously expensive for what we ordered, so in conclusion if you want to eat in a good place worth the price and enjoy good quality food don't come here!

Nice restaurant. But I have to say some flavors of ice cream are too sweet

The food is fabulous! They have daily seafood outside the menu, I have tried twice! First time, the waiter introduce me the scallop Spaghetti, this one makes me come again in the next day! And then we tired the lobster ‘flat spaghetti’ and the pizza and even the bolognese for kid is also very yummy! You won’t be disappointed in the restaurant

I have to say that was the least tasty Margarita I had so far. Atmosphere in the other hand is just great. Boss seems to be too bossy! Service excellent. Overall will come back and give a go maybe next time I will be more lucky with pasta dishes 😁

Ice cream looks attractive and delicious in the afternoon of a sunshine day, after encountering something stressful. Was about to order and aware of the sign “ice cream is for take away only”. I politely asked if I can order scoops of ice-cream and sit only for 5-10 minutes, before going to do something else. However, my request was notably rejected, despite a number of available seats inside. No matter what the ice-cream taste is, but the service mind is unacceptable. Do not forget to be emphatic human please. Disrespectful and non-empathic service.

We had an amazing dining experience at Ciao Roma. The food was absolutely delicious, and the service outstanding. We were lucky to have the dishes recommended by the owners, which made us try new dishes that we wouldn’t normally have, and they were all fantastic. Highly recommend for anyone craving authentic Italian cuisine

Absolutely beautiful place. The food was very fresh and delicious. The service was second to none, attentive and friendly. We haven't stopped talking about it. The lady looking after us was a star. We will definitely be back when we next visit Edinburgh.

This is the first time I ever came out of a restaurant hungrier than when I went in! The service was exceptionally slow. It took nearly an hour to get our food after we placed the order! When the food finally arrived my serving was quite small. The food was OK, but not amazing. After spending nearly 3 hours in the restaurant, I had to go to a nearby supermarket to buy something to eat because I was so hungry! Don't come here unless you are not hungry and have a lot of time to kill.

Ok, despite too much toasted cheese on the cannelloni, and no tomatoes on the veal ragu for the pappardelle, and the crab ravioli also needing a scotch of tomatoes to complement the fish and ink pillows, the place was fun, brightly lit, with walls full of terrific murals of all the best Italian actors and musicians from the past 50 years. Great memories of Toto, Alberto soldi, claudia cardinale, Sophia Loren, Anna magnanimous, pavarotti, andrea bocelli, and so many more. Just tell them to add some tomato to the ragu!

The service is overall average ! Now the food is a mix of lottery of bad to worst, I'm ask for calaramar a la romana ,was terrible chewy and hard as a rock ,lasagna was average ,the same with the fruito de mare pasta was soo,and my biggest mistake was order canoli and gellato ,ice cream ,and chocolate 7 layers horrible by the way , the canoli old and dry ,the worst od the worst, 23 pounds excessive price , dinner for 2 people 99 sterling pounds ,I'm feel robed and disappointed, don't go ,avoid!

Very friendly service and a wonderful choice in ice cream and Italian desserts.

We recently returned from Edinburgh. During our travels we walked past Ciao Roma and noted the gelato counter and cannoli in the window. As we were full from our dinner at another restaurant we decided to return the next day. When we visited we were greeted by a nice lady behind the counter. We chose our gelato from the counter, which were tasty and nice. I asked if the Cannoli was fresh and if the filling was ricotta. I was advised yes they are made freshly on site and the large cannoli are filled with ricotta and the smaller ones were butter cream. We purchased two large cannolis, one chocolate and one pistachio. There is no eat in for gelato or cannoli so we took the cannoli back to our hotel. When we tried the cannoli approximately 20 minutes later I was not pleased. The ricotta filling was nice, but the shell was soft and almost stale like. Cannoli shells should be crisp and have a crunch. This was just soft and a big disappointment. If you love your cannoli and get tempted by the looks, steer clear is my advice.

The food was fine but the main course took so long to arrive, we thought we'd been forgotten about.

I have loved this restaurant for years and have been a fair few times with friends and family over this time. This would have always been a place I would have recommended to others too, however, after my recent experience, I don't think I'll return. First of all, the food was lovely, as it always is, however, I have noticed such a difference in how staff treat you if you are a solo diner in comparison to a group. When I have came to the restaurant with family or friends, the service is great, staff are super friendly and make you feel welcome, but coming as a solo diner, it feels more like you're being rushed and as if you're not owed as good a dining experience as others. During my recent experience, I felt more like an inconvenience when I came in. I understand that group bookings will make more profit, however, I'm a customer as much as anyone else, and, if I felt comfortable, I would have spent more time and money within the restaurant. It's so disappointing, as I've always loved this wee place, my family and I were planning to book again soon for a special occasion but will now be looking elsewhere. I think it's important to consider that, there can be many reasons why people will be dining alone. They may be doing so because they don't have anyone to spend time with, or they may be trying to build confidence to do more things by themselves. Your actions towards these people will have an impact. And unless people are being rude and unreasonable, there's no reason why they shouldn't get the same level of service as groups. I hope that your staff team can take this on board and are able to reflect on this for future customers.

We both had the lasagne, It was amazing I had 2 beers my partner had 2 cokes. It was £51 but gave them £56 May go back Loved it.

Edinburgh holiday, we check any last minute Italian restaurant nearby and we found a gem! 💎 Food: Carbonara is soooo good! The pistachio thingy dessert is weird, we don’t like it. But the gelato was perfect!! Drinks: Mocktail was okay, just in very small glass. Atmosphere: Proper Italian vibe, love the murals. It’s just odd, the couple beside us were staring at us whilst we’re eating. Maybe because me and my friend we’re food sharing. 🤔 Service: When we first walk-in, they did not greet us at all and did not ask anything. They just stood and chatting, not a good introduction though. We went there around 9pm without any reservation, good thing there’s a lot of tables available. Price: The price is average for an authentic Italian food.

I was in the mood for gelato since it’s getting warmer in Edinburgh and me and my friends walked past this place so I had to get it. I got pistachio gelato and salted caramel cannoli. They both were really good. One of the creamiest gelato I’ve had in the UK. The salted caramel filling for cannoli was quite nice as well since it was not too sweet and also creamy.

So, I have been visiting here for about 30 years. Always reliable as a “solid 50%-er”. It’s not outstanding. It does what it does really well. We all need that. Visit tonight (and don’t judge) haggis ravioli and mozzarella garlic bread….trust me. It’s normally outstanding. Young waiter missed the cheese bit, instead of remaking it the garlic bread went under a heater and came back crisp and dead with partially melted cheese long after the ravioli had been delivered. I tried to mention this - but he’s clearly not a listener!! I don’t care about the money - just devastated that a hing I loved has died. £28 not well spent.

Ice cream tasted really nice and they had a good selection of flavours. However the member of staff that served us was very rude. We asked what flavour one of the ice creams was as there were various labels missing, and his response was very snarky and sarcastic which made us feel uncomfortable.

Superb Italian restaurant. Best risotto I have ever had, even better than ones I had in Milan and Rome. Rice is well-infused with seafood aroma. 10 out of 10. Pasta is freshly made and al-dente. The pappardelle bolognaise is very good as well. They serve cannoli and ice cream as well.

Spectacular ice creams but the Italian man who served us was very unpleasant, he even pushed my little daughter away with a light push when we were standing in line to order an ice cream.

As soon as we entered at 4.30pm we politely asked to sit at a table near the entrance just for a dessert and a coffee... we were told by a lady who welcomed us that everything was booked from 5pm, I would like to point out that the the place was empty and we couldn't even get a coffee at the counter.. thanks for the welcome.. we will definitely be back 👎👎👎

Came across this place while exploring Edinburgh on our way back from the National Museum of Scotland. I craved something sweet when I saw the delicious looking cannoli from the shop window. The atmosphere inside looked nice with interesting wall art. However, I didn't eat in but got a takeaway. The lady at the counter was very friendly and packed a few cannoli for me to try at home. I really enjoyed them all but my favourite flavour was the pistachio one.

suspicious bill Initially, it was supposed to be £125, but when we got the first bill, it was a whopping £425, with a mysterious £300 charge labeled as "open food." We decided to ask the cashier, who seemed like the boss, to explain. Surprisingly, he quickly changed our bill and asked us where that £300 item was. We felt really frustrated and suspicious about this whole ordeal, especially since some of us are tourists.

Chef de Service was very unpolite and also a bit rude. It took very long to take the order. The service of the cheese was not good because we didn't could measure it by our own. Also the table sheet was made out of plastic which was a little bit disgusting.

We booked this restaurant as we were going to see Hamilton the theatre show. It was great and would definitely think of returning

Took my family for gelato following dinner. After taking the payment, the gentleman who served us then asked us to leave, stating gelato is takeaway only. There were two small tables and chairs right next to the gelato area, away from the dining room. He would not allow us to sit there. Had I known we would have had to eat it out in the cold, we would have gone elsewhere.

Superb, authentic Italian restaurant. Excellent service and food. When it comes to dessert, ignore the plastic menu with the pictures and ask for the home-made selection of cakes and cannoli. Highly recommended.

Absolutely excellent evening together with friends from all over the world. I was greeted like Franco the owner as soon as I came in. Absolutely lovely and genuine guy. Drinks were well priced for centre of town and the food was absolutely stellar. The pasta was so fresh and so delicious. I had the Nduja pasta and it was out of this world. I felt really at home and can’t wait to come back, what a great place - highly recommend!
