Chutneys in Gateshead

Been going to chutneys for years and we ordered again the other week (after we hadn’t for a while) and it was amazing as always! Would totally recommend to everyone! A must try! 🌟

We have been a few times since lockdown and had a few take aways with friends. Lovely food and excellent service. The staff are so helpful and ensure all of us have everything we require.

First time ordering here will definitely be back good prices, lovely flavoursome food (not ridiculously spicy like some curry houses) if you fancy a curry please give it a try.

just really bad innit wont ever go again there was also pubes in my curry and then one of the staff spat in my food it was disgraceful.

We were one of three couples in the place - took ages to get served. Staff seemed to very carefully "not see" us. Food okay but nothing special. Would not go bak.

I came here this past weekend and the food was fantastic. The waiters were very attentive and helpful and it was a lovely setting! Would definitely recommend, I will be returning for sure.

Great little restaurant, the staff are always welcoming, friendly and attentive. The food is well presented and really tasty and we are always given a free dish to try which is a nice little touch! The food is reasonably priced and I would definitely recommend going to Chutneys if you haven’t been before.

We haven’t been to Chutneys for a few years but decided to book a table. The meals were delicious & fresh & staff really efficient & friendly. I had garlic chicken tikka for the first time & it was so tasty. Will definitely go more often!

Really nice food friendly staff always bring a free dish out for you to try. Nothing is a problem to the staff, will go again

Although this is hidden round the back of the high street, its a very clean restaurant, staff are friendly and very attentive. Food is excellent, we have been at least 5 times now trying different things & never had a bad meal. We never waited long for our food. Would highly recommend Chutneys.

We ordered a meal for 4 people with starters etc...we were told it would be delivered to our home within an hour.. It wasnt we phoned and the lovley lady on the phone appoligised and said it would be with you soon.. after a while the owner came with our delivery and would only accept half the cost because of the delay..he couldn't have been nicer or more apologetic... Like all things in bussines people make mistakes and it's all about fixing the problem.. Chutneys certainly did that.. and the food was beautiful everyone loved it (10 out of 10) The moral of this story is good (great) things come to those who wait.. We would deffenately recommend them.. It's still the best in Whickham. Thank you

There are a few curry houses in Whickham, this one is hidden a little but it's well worth a visit. The food was very nice and didn't take long to arrive even with a few bottoms on seats. No complaints from us.

Went for a late tea last night and was very happy with the food. The prices are reasonable and you get an awful lot for your money. I'm not very adventurous when it comes to curry and the staff were very helpful in helping me choose something a bit different but that I would still enjoy. The service was good and the restaurant is modern and clean. I'll be going back!

Although this restaurant has been on my patch for years I only got around to dining there recently. I was actually surprised that this diner was still operational, situated as it is on a back road directly behind one of the finest Indian restaurants in the whole area which faces the busy main street. In this respect, Chutneys deserves some credit and it suggested that it's not a bad choice as a place to eat. Indeed, this proved to be the case. It is pleasant enough inside and the manager is an amiable type. The staff were very attentive but this can be slightly annoying when the place was almost deserted; it meant we were prey to the efficient waiters who walked around waiting to swoop and remove dishes as soon as they appeared to be finished with and topping up glasses a little too regularly. The food was good although I was thankful I hadn't risked a Vindaloo as the Madras was far hotter than is the norm. I do prefer this type of restaurant to have some sort of heat source to keep dishes hot instead of just serving food on hot plates and was pleased to find Chutneys do this. Another plus is that there is parking nearby. Overall, not a bad experience and I would return.

Have regularly used this restaurant /takeaway and have recommended it in the past but very disappointed with this evening's meal - poor in fact. Ordered two main dishes, madhop pur and tikka masala. Both were disappointing compared to what we've had in the past. The madhop pur sauce resembled a watery tin of tomatoes with something in to add extra sweetness. The masala sauce was also much thinner and watery than usual and almost tasteless. Neither seemed to have as much chicken in as usual, either. What was going on? Impression is that they're either cutting costs or have somebody different in the kitchen. Whatever, won't be rushing back as there is plenty of choice for this style of cuisine in the area.

Really good service, food fresh and well prepared with a vast selection for all tastes, nan bread a favourite for all, would recommend

We where recommended to try this restaurant and i have to say it was as good as any indian in the area (that I have visited and it's a lot) the food was delicious and service was spot on I will definitely be back with the family

I'm afraid I can't recommend this place. We were seated quickly, and the food arrived promptly. Appetizers were OK, but the waiter was a bit rapid in snatching away our plates without asking whether we were finished. The main courses were mediocre, with dry chicken...

Visited Chutney's on numerous occasions. The food and service was both fantastic on my recent visit. The restaurant seemed more...

Waited an hour and 50 minutes for a delivery. Was told 45 minutes to begin with and then had to deal with constant it'll be there soon. Was eventually offered that it would be free if not derived with an hour and a half. It turned up stone cold and we we offered a discount on our next delivery only. Now eating an Asda microwave curry

Been a few times now and each one as good as the last. Very friendly and helpful staff. The restaurant is tucked away behind The One Eyed Stag. Well worth a look. Enjoy food fans!!

Mi esposa y ahora lo hemos visitado Chutneys en 3 ocasiones como alternativa a la Jamdani. Cada vez que hemos sido tan impresionado con la comida y el servicio.

Siempre vamos a chutneys cada vez que estamos en el noreste. Había sido un año anterior habíamos estado en. La comida es excelente, pero no creo que el personal no sólo se acordaba de nosotros pero preguntamos dónde estaba mi otra hija y recordaba lo que nos gusta comer. Excelente servicio

Not our first visit but the first for a while. We have had some enjoyable nights here in the past but this was our best yet. When we arrived the restaurant was quite full but we were shown straight to our table and our orders were taken quickly and this was the standard for very good service throughout. The food was of a very high quality, with all dishes well spiced. I had a fish starter which was cooked to perfection, followed by my favourite Chicken Balti. The others had a varied selection of dishes and there was lots of head nodding going on whilst eating. No fault found by any, a unanimous thumbs up.Just to round things off, whilst we were having our coffee, the waiter brought out a tray full of complimentary glasses of Baileys. Its little touches like this that make the difference between the wheat and the chaff.Although we like to vary the destination for our society nights out, Chutneys is one we like to come back to. We will be back!!!

Had a superb meal yet again last night . It was girlfriends birthday and along with onion bhaji starter we opted for fish starter which to my surprise was delicious . The mains were the same and nan great . We have learnt over years how consistent the quality here is , keep it up

We went here as we've been before a few years ago and the food was always good...5 of us on a Saturday night and the place was packed...we were seated around the corner away from everyone for some reason so didn't really see the restaurant environment. We all had poppadoms and chutneys to start (whixh were vey nice) and mixed kebab starters which didn't have much flavour. Gutted as they came out sizzling on a hot plate. Main course I had the chicken tikka bhuna which was totally bland and tasteless as other reviewers have said the same. It's a generic popular dish so they need to get that right...very flavourless! Nan breads were just OK....I paid 30 for what I had after having two large cobras too ... the staff clearly can't handle having a full restaurant and it's a shame because I've always told people how good this place is...very disappointed...won't be going back...SORT THE BHUNA OUT PLEASE ASAP ...cheers

Visited recently with family on the spur of the moment after reading some good reviews about it and checking out the menu. The place itself is easy enough to find and the sat navigation took us straight there. It's up,a flight for stairs, so no good if you are not so mobile, but luckily, we all are. The restaurant itself is fine, and in keeping with others in the genre. We were well looked after by an enthusiastic waiter, who was very helpful and happy.The food was delicious, and I noted there were a few dishes I was unfamiliar with, which I think is always nice, so I tried something different. We all had a little taste of each others dishes, and they were all lovely. We did try quite a few things, and had a complimentary dish given to us, which we though was a nice touch, along with a baileys night cap. All in all, we had a lovely evening, and will definitely be making a return visit soon

There was eight of us and just as well we pre booked only this place was heaving this was my first visit to chutneys and I left very happy and will defo return they coped very well with the crowds and we was all very satisfied with our food well done all the staff we will be back thanks

Love this place, Always top notch food and staff are always brilliant and polite. The food in this place is that good I reckon they could up their prices and people would still happily pay.

We visited in a large group of 18 friends on a Friday night. The ordering of various meals was loud and delivery of the items even louder, but all agreed the food was delicious. The bill was reasonable and we will be visiting again.

Decided to order a takeaway from here as a few of my friends have been and said it was nice. Not sure if they were having an "off nite" but was very disappointed with my take away meal. The chicken tikka starter was Ok, nothing special, then I ordered onion pilau rice which had absolutely no taste whatsoever, very bland. My main course of chicken bhuna also had no taste and seemed very watery and lukewarm. My garlic nann bread was undercooked bordering on raw, so didn't eat it. Certainly will not be ordering another meal from here.

Have to say first that Indian food is my favourite and was recommended this place by a friend. It's location was a bit hidden but now I know it's for a great reason. Definitely a hidden gem ! We didn't reserve and we're lucky to get a table as it was a Saturday night and was pretty full. The menu had all the usual meals as well as speciality and chief specials. We ordered chicken chat / onion Baha'i to start. Special chicken balti / chicken chilli masala for mains.Rice and nan. When our mains arrived our waiter brought us a complimentary dish to try ! Which was delicious and a lovely touch. Have to say the food was amazing. Couldn't fault a thing. The house wine wasLovely and not expensive as other restaurants I've been too. After our meal we were given a complimentary liqueur .. have to say this place deserves 5* all day long and can't wait till I go back .

12 went midweek food and service great not one complaint would definitely go back ,we ordered too much food as portions are quite large,but doggie bags were provided, so nothing was wasted

love chutneys but tonight was not good, popped in for a quick meal, as you do. Wanted something different, so took time over choice, asked for small cobra, waiter asked for meal choice, said onion bhaji but hadnt decide on the rest, Two mins later onion bhaji served up without ordering the rest of my meal. Felt really pressurised to order. Its not like they were busy, one other couple in a 35 plus restaurant. I was not happy to say the least, paid for bhaji an cobra, but bearing in mind I visit 4 or 5 times a month, bit bad to rush loyal customers.Will not be back.

Had not been there in last year. To be fair the food was good as was the service. Will certainly go back again!

My friend and I used to go once a month because we enjoyed it BUT the last 2 times was horrible. Luke warm and not tasty at all so we haven't been back. There are a lot of stairs to get into it so not suitable for disabled people. You can try it yourself and then you can do a review to let us know what it's like now.

wow, what can I say, after walking down the bank to what looked like the back of nowhere we entered the restaurant which was full of people. our company consisted of nine. drinks were ordered along with meals, we decided to just have popadoms as starters and pickles. we all ordered varying main courses. mine being lamb madras with lots of garlic and coriander. wow it arrived and it was absolutely fantastic, the lamb was tender the garlic was in cloves and I was in my element. definitely be back to this little tucked away restaurant

We've been here before but also use the takaway service too sometimes. The restaurant itself isn't on the main high street which makes it an unobvious choice but it's nicely decorated, the staff are very attentive and nice and most importantly the food is excellent! Some great chef specials - Recommend the honey chicken. Reasonably priced too. Good for couples or bigger groups. Not as well known but would certainly advise people to give it a try.

This is an excellent Indian restaurant - you feel welcome from the moment you walk through the door.There's always a pleasant atmosphere. The food is so good. There's an extensive menu - we're working our way through the chef's specials. The lamb Karahi we had on our last trip was delicious (and they are happy to put any leftovers into take away cartons for you). You can see their menu on their website.If you haven't been before it can be a bit tricky to find - it's tucked in the lane behind the china village takeaway. The best way to find it is to turn down School street next to the school and take an immediate right along the little lane (Back row). There's some parking on the road outside, or there's parking behind the Gibside hotel.

4 of us ,last minute decision ,not been for a year or more ,so glad we chose Chutneys .I had forgotten how good the food was ,great number of choices ,beautifully cooked,fantastic attentive charming service .Not the cheapest nor the most appealing venue but easily made up by the quality of service and food .A great night out ,you should try it .We will be back and within the year .

Wow. What a meal. I enjoyed every mouthfull. We started with poppadoms and pickles. Skipped starters. I chose king prawn tikka mossala. The portion size was enough for two. I managed all of the prawns and half of the sauce. The rice was just enough. The nan bread was big enough for the three of us. I would recommend this place to anyone and will be back x

Dropped in for a quick meal, they know me so made the assumption that i had a madras, decided on Chicken Rogan joshand other things not had before. It was a beautifal meal 10/10 for me, alwayz a good experience for me

I used to be a regular here a view years ago, but declining standards stopped me visitingOn return from a holiday we decided to visit after dropping luggage of at home as both hungryIt was Tuesday night, we entered an empty restaurant, a bit off putting.We noticed a guy in whites fixing his taxi outside, again off puttingWe ordered, the guy in whites outside was summoned back inside the restaurant, 5 minutes later our 2 completely different orders were presented, i could not cook the rice in that time let alone the dishes.The head waiter then came up and said all the staff would not be available for a while as they were breaking their Ramadan fast.Both dishes were bland and very similar in taste, a difficult achievement when 1 is chicken rogan and 1 is lamb jalfraz, but I suppose this is what happens to pre mix microwaved food.The bill showed no allowance and was high for the presented ( and left) food, luckily the chippy was open.

As soon as you walk in the place it is oppressive with no windows except at the door. The noise level in the place was through the roof .. That said the place was jammed full & I mean that I could hardly move my arms to eat my food so I thought to my self the food must be good. We were with six friends my wife & I orderd onion bhaji to share .. I must now say I love my food probably too much. I only ate half of mine I didn't like the taste of it at all. For my main I had lamb rogan josh again I didn't like it & only ate half of it, my wife had tandoori prawns & there was not many of them & she didn't think they were anything special & the salad that came with it was abysmal !!!!Now to the service if you like being screamed at you will love it, I have never been served food where the waiters literally screamed your food order across the table, I suppose they had to to be heard over the noise in the restaurant. !!!!

Decided to take my family including two grandchildren to the restaurant for an early evening meal. Went for a 6pm booking for the benefit of the children. I have been here on many occasion and always found the food of high quality. Tonight turned out to be rather different. One of the staff who has been here for many a year seemed intend on serving us as quickly as he could and ensure the table was vacated ASAP. As we ended the meal the gentlemen concerned seemed intent on removing dishes on the hot trays without asking. Eventually plates were taken away even though one person had not finished their meal. I guess it did have the desired result as I timed the whole event at 62 minutes which was pretty quick for a meal involving 6 people. Do I go again....maybe,if the person concerned reads the review he might appreciate that his manner would be regarded as officious by many people!

Food was delicious, we ordered 3 meals between 3 of us plus one nan and one rice, We were given an extra dish on the house, so ended up with loads of lovely food. Very tasty! We also had a bottle of wine and water, and we were given liqueurs on the house also. so a very good night at a very reasonable £76 between us.

This was our first visit following rave reviews from friends.The restaurant is hidden behind Whickham Front Street, there is free parking outside. It's family owned and run.The restaurant is a good size, nicely decorated and the tables are well spaced, which is always a plus as I hate being crammed in like sardines.We love Indian food and eat it regularly, we have tried every Indian restaurant on Ocean Road in South Shields, but are creatures of habit and rarely experiment with new dishes. Tonight we decided to be more adventurous.A delicious range of pickles accompanied by popadoms were followed by a special starter platter with samosa, onion bhaji, tikka chicken and lamb, chicken pakora and chicken chat. Served on a sizzling platter everything was delicious.For mains we shared a range of mild to medium lamb or chicken curries including lamb achari, chicken tikka masala, sag aloo and aloo gobi, mushroom pilau, egg fried rice and the most stunning chicken Madhop Pur Murgh, a new dish to me this was absolutely delicious, warm spices in a smooth sauce with a touch of honey- my new favourite dish! The naan breads were perfect, we really couldn't fault a thing.Unusually for us in an Indian restaurant we chose dessert, delicious creamy pistachio kulfi and a coconut ice cream.The meal was rounded off with coffee and mints.Quiet when we arrived at 7.30pm it was full as we left just after 9.00pm, it's obviously wel, known and supported by the locals.The staff are delightful, friendly and efficient. They were genuinely thrilled with our compliments. It's an absolute gem and well worth a visit. Excellent value for money.

Visited on a thursday evening and were the only people in. Food took an age to arrive and we were extremely disappointed to find it was mass produced package sauced fodder. NO taste to curry . Bill came to £50 fo two courses each. Will not return

This Indian restaurant is tucked away behind the main road of the village. I have been before, but was never particularly impressed, not so much by the food, but by the slow service. However, this time, the food was nicely cooked and the service was quite prompt. We are well served by restaurants here, but Chutney's was never on my list. After my latest visit, I will certainly move it up the pecking order!

I visited for the fiorst time having been recommended - it was all I had been told and mnore besides - the chefs special I tried was one of the best tasting (for spices not blowing your head off) dishes I had ever eaten. The host was lovely and friendly only critiim was you felt like you were always being rushed !

Had a early tea with % off as first weekday evening customer, also attended regular for family birthday meals

I have reviewed this Indian restaurant before but had to leave another review after the amazing meal we had on Sat night with friends. Staff were friendly and managed to squeeze us in as we booked quite late. The restaurant was busy but food was spot on we all agreed it was up there with the best curry we had ever had (after sampling a lot!) not only this but service fab and the price very reasonable.

Lovely food, excellent staff - always choose to go here! Much busier this month than January and December. Great with children to.

This is a much over looked and underrated restaurant. Have been quite a number of times but recently went just after Christmas with friends from Aberdeen. No reservation but they took us straight in and got us sorted no problem. The food was as always excellent. Service great and it's a shame it sometimes gets missed as it is tucked away round the back of the front street. Please pay it a visit you won't be disappointed.

A fantastic charity night hosted by the staff. Exquisite food that's tough to replicate but easily eaten. A menu to suit every palate and an ambience. Efficient service enhanced the atmosphere.The cherry on top was the value for money. Takeaway service also available and as it's quite a small venue this may be your best shot at food if visiting ad hoc. Book early and book often. Enjoy!!

Visited this little restaurant and came away very impressed!The chicken was very fresh intact all the food was! We were recommended to come here and it is a great restaurant! The staff were all so friendly will be back again

We go to Chutney's regularly now - it's one of the best in the North East and I've tried a lot of them - food is always top notch and so is the service - give it a try I'm sure you will be back.

We have visited this restaurant four times now and the food is consistently excellent. There are many choices on the menu and the staff are also happy to advise.The staff are very friendly and welcoming and very attentive to your needs. I would heartily recommend this place if you like Indian food.

Decided to try here as the place we had booked had over booked us and I am so pleased they had the manager was extreamly sorry and apologetic but these things happen from time to time The service was quick and professional and nice decorated The food was of good quality and generous portions and massive naan breads Served piping hot and extreamly tasty You can't go wrong here for quality and value for money the best kept secret in Whickham village

I've been here both sitting in and takeaway. It's a lovely little restaurant, staff friendly and food delicious. The takeaway portions are a good size. Definitely recommend.

Fab food and fab service. Staff can't do enough for you. Every time we've been they always bring an extra little taster over for you to try. A simple little touch but makes a big difference. Love this place

Tried to go here for a birthday meal with wife and daughter. Only 3 tables were in use and we were placed next to the ladies toilets, after asking for another table we were promptly placed next the the gents, even though the were at least 8 other tables. So we promptly left.We will not be visiting here again.

Food is to die for , even gt freebie off chef to try and that was gorgeous aswell , first time been here wasnt even supposed to come here but another restaurant in whickham who shall remains nameless but starts with a p ,decided they didnt want my custom ,their loss chutney and my gain . Will defo be coming back here it is a gem

The only reason we went to Chutneys is, it opens at 5.30 on Sundays, the service was pretty good, not the usual Indian restaurant set up, too many waiters pushing and shoving to get you in and out as quickly as possible, just the one, everything came together no complaints, mixed reviews on the food however, the Biriani was an odd colour and the sauce was tasteless, the two vegetarian dishes,korma and Dupiaza were rich and both full of flavour, the baby, 16 month old, had a Malayan very fruity and creamy, she loved it, and her nan bread, they even gave us a complimentary chefs special, it was a bit sweet for me, but, the others who tasted it said it was ok, the price wasn't to bad either, give it a go,

Having lived in the village for 3 years now. I've only just discovered this place exists!! Rather than go to the massively over hyped one people rave about. I took a chance on this one. I wasn't disappointed. Really tasty, good size portions and value for money. I will definitely be returning.

I have visited here on several occasions mainly for food to take away and the choice and quality is very good. I have a cold beer while waiting which is very nice and the staff helpful and friendly. Price wise it isn't any more than you pay elsewhere in the long run if you don't compare with special deals that other places do,usually Thursdays or Sundays.On the down side, it's situated upstairs and there doesn't appear to be any access for disabled or wheelchair users.The other point of note was that the last time I was waiting for food to take away there was some sort of crazy Indian rave music playing which was quite loud and would certainly be off putting for many diners including myself.

Had a fabulous meal tonight. Service was excellent. Given a complimentary chicken dish as well as tipple at the end of the meal. Definitely worth a visit. X

We have visited the restaurant twice. On both occasions we have been disappointed, no atmosphere and the quality of the food was not to our liking. But we thought we would give them a second chance On the second occasion the table clothes were dirty and had not been changed from other dinners , which was rather off putting if they cannot get basic standards right. Sorry we will not be returning

Visited on a busy saturday night.Welcome was warm, friendly and efficient and service on the whole was good (see below)Varied wine choiceStarters good although the sharing platter dish was swimming in oil (samosa pastry ended up soaking up alot of oil and was nearly inedible).Menu varied and curries as described for both heat and flavours.We were full so declined dessert and were automatically presented with our bill without asking if we wanted more drinks / coffee etc.Overall good Indian food and will be back again (despite some service issues).TIP for ManagementOne of the waiters was getting very angry and argumentative with the kitchen staff through the serving hatch, slamming down plates etc and whilst we didn't understand the language used, the tone and manner/temper of the waiter crossed all language barriers.This kind of display is not condusive to an ambient restaurant environment and quite amazing to observe, as it is rare to see a staff row played out in full view of the diners.

I have eaten here many times, and had many takeaways, and have never been disappointed. Most people rave about the 'other' Indian restaurant in Whickham village, where they have become complacent about their popularity and the food standards have slipped, and now the food there is just,well, bland.On the other hand, Mr Choudhury and his staff go every inch to make you feel welcome, and you are appreciated as a valued customer rather than just a number. The food has taste, flavour, and the curries are a perfect mix of sauce, meat and spices. Everything tastes freshly cooked, the decor is nice, toilets spotless, cold beer, and lovely staff, who are very attentive. You only have to go there once and you are remembered. This restaurant deserves success, its No.1 by a country mile in Whickham as far as I am concerned, don't let anyone tell you otherwise. I love indian food, have been eating it for 35 years and this is as good as it gets. Highly recommended.

Went there last night for a friends birthday. We all had starters,mains only 2 of us had a desert. The food was really lovely with lots of flavours. staff were very attentive but left you alone. I would definitely recommend this Indians and will go back in the future. We were given an extra dish and an Irish Cream liqueur each on the house.

Went in with 5 others on a Thursday night not too busy as we were early and had not booked . We all had different meals and they did something special for the youngster that did not like spicy food. We all enjoyed the meal and I have never had a bad meal here. I used to get takeaways from the owners previous business years ago

This Indian restaurant in Whickham is great, the food is lovely and the staff and service are wonderful, we eat there on most special occasions or just when the fancy takes us, we have often been given a free chefs special to try and on one occasion my husband had commented to one of the staff that it didn't matter where he ate he could never get coconut ice cream for desert ( a favourite of his ) within 10 mins a large decorated bowl of coconut ice cream arrived. :) Thanks Chutneys for never disappointing.

Our Indian takeaway of choice - the starters, mains and naans are fantastic. Many Indian restaurants seem to be much of a muchness, but the dishes from Chutneys stand out from the pack. My only gripe, and the reason I haven't given Chutneys 5 stars, is the pickle tray with popadoms is limited. I'm sure it's great in the restaurant but not much of a selection with deliveries.

Ate here for the first time last weekend. First impressions were good and the starters very enjoyable. Unfortunately things went downhill when the main courses arrived. My Balti dish was fine but my partner's dish, which was advertised as having fresh green chillies, was disappointing. He found one very small green chilli and the sauce was overpoweringly full of tomato paste. His tarka dhal was stodgy (looked like thick porridge) and had been reheated in the microwave as had the plain white rice. Last but not least his paratha was undercooked. A plus point was the pickle tray being automatically replenished.Although we had an enjoyable evening the standard of some of the food did spoil what was a celebratory evening.

Very good Indian and very good service.... just unbelievably good :) will go back soon. We had 2 started and 2 mains and they were incredible. best curries I've ever had

Tried this Indian after being unable to book at our regular restaurant, I have to say that everybody in our party were not disappointed, great food and great service, we couldn't fault a thing will definitely book here again

A good if not great curry shop,the Biryani Chicken was good,but lacked chicken,the naan and rice were good,the wauter was attentive,maybe overly so,but I still enjoyed the food.

First time was ok. Felt a bit rushed as the waiter was very quick to clear stuff off the table. Second time the spicy poppadom was actually rubbery. Sent it back and got a better one but still a little soft. Food generally pretty average.

Been here many times - the food is always great as is the service. All very reasonable prices too - can highly recommend !

We were given this place as a suggestion by the lady in Hedley hall and were not dissapointed. Though it looks a bit tired the food was very good indeed. We both had different dishes and enjoyed them very mich, all washed down with a cool pint of Indian Lager. Great prices as well. Parking is just up the road a bit but not very far at all. It is a bit tucked away round the back but the sat nav led us to the door.

To sum it up,food was delish from the lovely presentation from the starters to the mains all was really lovely meat very tender sauce was delicious and I have tried jashn,jamdani, I shouldnt have left this so long to viist.... Got a table right away just turned up on bank holiday Monday at easter.We will be back and we must say attentive staff who really do look after u and not be too obtrusive. Also we had a free chefs special taster and some baileys which was a nice touch thankyou..

Had a smashing meal for friends 40th. We had a wide range of dishes between the 6 of us and each were lovely. Service was impeccable even though it was extremely busy, we were not rushed. Its now on our list of favourites.

Armed with a voucher for a free bottle of wine decided to go to this Indian restaurant. Been to this restaurant on many occasions but never written a review.There is plenty of competition in Whickham so this restaurant needs to look to its laurels. From our standpoint there is always a warm welcome from the staff and you are quickly seated and invited to have a drink while you look at the menu. I have never had to take issue with any starter or mains and just regard this establishment as a very well run restaurant. The decor looks "sort of 1970s" but I am not big on this aspect rather the substance of the meal and never been disappointed.

friendly staff serving great food in a cosy environment. If there is something out of the ordinary you want don't be afraid to ask, the chef will probably make it for you.

From the exterior Chutneys does not look great but dont let that fool you, the food was amazing and service was excellent, this really is a little gem.

Surprised there are so few reviews for this place. Lovely food here and polite and friendly staff..However, parking is poor nearby! But don't let that put you off going. Food more than makes up for this !!
