It’s normally amazing, but wasn’t on recent visit with my wife. Butter chicken was well below par and the cheese naan didn’t taste of cheese.

I did not have food with them, however, I had an amazing experience with Benito from the Bar Team. His attention to detail with me was fantastic. Also, hands down for Mr Singh, who is the General Manager, he has the best costumer service I have seen in a while. Looking forward to have food here soon. Thank you all!

Went there. Was spoken to politely by the bartender and receptionist. The manager gives off a weird vibe and was asking me who allowed me to use the permission to use the restroom. When I asked if he had a problem with me and the need to use the bathroom, he shut down the conversation and had someone escort me out of the hallway. The food might be great but racism is never acceptable.

Lovely and beloved place with adapted, but still original and super-tasty Indian cuisine, with its elegant and romantic interiors, attentive personnel and nice drinks-list. I would outline venison samosa & lamb small-plate and baby-gosht-biryani for main, as well as any other dish, both peculiar and tasty. I would also like to separately thank Ronny Costa (forgive possible spelling-mistake) - the friendliest and most intelligent waiter. All the best and see us next time in Chutney Mary!

Experience at Chutney Mary – Disrespectful and Racist Treatment I have always considered Chutney Mary one of the top Indian restaurants in London, and I’ve enjoyed dining here multiple times. However, my recent visit was beyond disappointing due to the unacceptable behavior of the staff. I simply requested a cola in a bottle, but it became clear that the restaurant does not serve it in its original packaging, seemingly to avoid showing the brand. When I asked about this, the waiter became extremely rude, raised his voice at me, and treated me with clear disrespect. What was even more shocking was the obvious racism—he spoke to me in a condescending and aggressive manner, completely unjustified, and proceeded to kick me out of the restaurant in front of other guests, humiliating me publicly. What made it even worse was that our food was already on the table when this happened. The waiter even went as far as patting my shoulder, physically touching me to force me out of the restaurant, which is completely unacceptable and unprofessional. To make matters worse, the waiter refused to give us his name despite his unacceptable behavior. However, I urge the management to check the security footage, as the incident was clearly recorded on the restaurant’s cameras. This kind of discriminatory and unprofessional behavior is completely unacceptable for a restaurant of this level. I demand that the owner takes action and holds the staff accountable for this disgraceful treatment. No matter how good the food is, no one should tolerate such behavior. Until this issue is addressed properly, I will not be returning, and I urge others to be aware of how customers are treated here.

A very classy Indian restaurant He says that his food is halal, and when we asked for the certificate proving that the food is halal, he said that the certificate is specific to the store and he cannot tell anyone about it, knowing that it is not written anywhere that the food is halal. The prices are very expensive compared to the amount of food, in my opinion.

We went for the weekend brunch to celebrate my wife's birthday. The ambience and service is nice, but the menu options are very limited and its way pricey for what it offers. We took the 2 course meal priced at £50 and for that you get onion bhaji/chat for starters and biryani for the mains - no way can that be £50. Previous to that we went to Amaya and the options, pricing and taste of the food was so much better, will go there any time. I don't think I can justify paying that much for the food we had, so whilst I loved the ambience, I just don't see myself going back there or recommending it to my friends and family."

Sure, this place has won some accolades, and given the decor and vibe it makes total sense. However, in London, where you can get delicious Indian food everywhere and in abundance, the overpriced and somewhat underimaginative offerings leave you wondering where the rest of the food is that you just paid all that money for. It is very good, but with amazing Indian offerings all over the city, very good is not worth your time and money.

Don’t go unless you think paying GBP 8.50 for a small Diet Coke is not extortion. The food is not bad, but certainly way off being excellent. It’s a decent venue, staff were polite, the food was OK. We paid 600 for dinner for 5 people, should be half of that max. I’ll post the Bill here. I live in Hong Kong, one of the most expensive places to live on Earth, I’ve never paid GBP 8.50 for a Diet Coke. Or GBP 8.50 for a small tonic water. It’s an insult to my intelligence. My advice, don’t go, no where near worth it. There are so many better options for you to spend your hard earned money on better Indian food and ambience.

Came here a few days ago for my friends birthday meal and considering we had scoured through recommendations and TikTok video reviews on the place it was not what was sold to us. The atmosphere and general decor of the restaurant is stunning and the drinks we had were fab but that’s where it ends. We ordered a variety of things to eat, mixture of bits from each section of the menu to get a good gist of it and we were highly disappointed. From the tandoori bbq section we ordered the prawns, we were so excited when they came as they were huge, however, they lacked flavour and were very chewy. For £60 for 4 of these, felt like a complete waste. The paneer tikka was okay, the dhal was very dark and was over seasoned way too much. Raita came with no cucumber inside. And the Indian salad… £7.50 for two sliced onions, some rocket, tomato and a couple of sliced bits of cucumber? Ridiculous. I ordered gulab jamun for dessert hoping this would save it, it came cold for some reason. So, no, it didn’t save it. I’ve not written many reviews in my time and I’m really sad to of done this, but I won’t return here due to sheer lack to flavour in everything, mediocre food and the prices not matching the value. If you are someone who orders a chicken korma, you’ll love it. If not, don’t bother

The atmosphere was really great. The staff and service was definitely exceptional. We felt very welcomed and well taken care of. The food was absolutely confusing to me and as if it was done in 2 different kitchens by 2 different chefs. The appetizers were stunning.. I ordered the winter lamb soup and the grand platter. The soup was so heartwarming as if it was cooked by a loving mother. The platter was a festival of testing experiences.... Full of balanced flavors and up to perfection. The the main course which was butter chicken and Mangalore prawn curry with bread and rice. They were sooo OK. Wasn't impressed at all.. You could find these dishes better in many other places. I ordered gulab jamun for dessert and it was OK as well. So if you ask me how would I rate my appetizers experience I would say 5/5 I am living unforgettable experience. If you ask about the rest I would say 2/5.. Food was OK but the price is unforgettable for it. If I come back again I will only order appetizers.

Horrendous Manager - Unfit for Hospitality I visited on December 29, 2024, for lunch, and the experience was absolutely disgraceful. The manager on duty was beyond incompetent, rude, unprofessional, and clearly has no clue how to treat customers. What’s worse is that I remember dealing with this same individual two years ago, and shockingly, nothing has changed. It’s unacceptable that someone this arrogant and disrespectful is still allowed to ruin the dining experience for paying customers. They lack basic decency, let alone the skills required for a managerial role. This establishment should be ashamed to have such a person representing them. Avoid this place if you want to be treated with even a shred of respect.

I am extremely disappointed. I received the worst treatment of any restaurant in my entire life at Chutney Mary on 24th of December 2024. Our experience was highly distressing and unbecoming of the standards expected from a renowned restaurant like Chutney Mary. I had booked a table the day prior, I received my confirmation and everything was set. Upon arrival at the restaurant, we were informed by members of the staff and the manager whose name is Sasha that our credit card had been declined. They told us that our reservation has been cancelled. I never received any email cancellation. Subsequently, we were told that attempts had been made to contact us, but the only call received that afternoon was from a number labeled as "No Caller ID." which they said was indeed them. This raised doubts about the legitimacy of the communication, considering the reputation of Chutney Mary as a prestigious 5-star restaurant. When I asked the manager, would you pick up a random “No Caller ID”, he didn’t know what to say. His demeanor throughout this interaction was not only unprofessional but also downright disrespectful. His dismissive attitude, coupled with phrases like "I cannot help you" and "thank you and goodbye," left us feeling marginalized and unwelcome. The lack of empathy and courtesy displayed by the team was deeply disappointing and does not align with the high standards of service that Chutney Mary is known for. Furthermore, the insinuation that we were being untruthful and the abrupt manner in which we were asked to leave the premises was unacceptable. This treatment not only tarnished our evening but also left a lasting negative impression of Chutney Mary as a whole. I’ve had many friends and family telling me about Chutney Mary and was excited to try it for the first time but after this terrible experience, I doubt I’d be back and I doubt any of them would be back too.

Very unfortunate experience for Christmas Eve. So yes, the dishes are good but not incredible either (we also eat well in the Indian district of BrickLane where we stayed) But that evening, what a lack of respect towards the customers! A December 24th anyway… Reservation at 9 p.m., we were welcomed by putting pressure on us to order because “the kitchen is going to close”. 3 people come to see us in 10 minutes to take orders. The starter arrives before my cocktail which we would have liked to drink quietly before eating. The red wine ordered was hot. I had it iced but it was definitely not what I expected afterwards. 2 minutes after the dishes arrived, and I've never seen this, we were handed…the dessert menu so we could quickly choose our dessert! 9:45 p.m., the music is cut off. At the end of the meal (faster than fast food), we are asked if everything went well. Obviously I say no, and I tell them my entire way of thinking about their reception that evening. “We’re sorry sir, but transport etc etc…, you’ll see next time it will be better” The bill falls, no offer, we pay full price, or 300€ for 2 people with a catastrophic experience, recognized by management at the end, but not a gesture. Which explains why, even though I never do it, I leave this review because it is simply shameful and unworthy of the reputation that this establishment seems to have.

The restaurant requires a reservation, and the day you book you pay 60 pounds, they say they will return it or not! The food, may God bless the blessing, is not that food. Chutney Mary used to be my go-to for comforting, authentic Indian good, but recently, they’ve innovated so so much that their classic Indian dishes are unrecognisable. For example their samosas are now an architectural cone stuffed with corn and an overwhelming sour molasses aftertaste. The Afghani chicken is cooked well but lacks the depth and spice you’d expect from a good chicken tikka. The aloo chaat has as well changed to make it look more artistic, and less flavourful. The saving grace was the butter chicken, which until now remains unchanged. Would I go again? Yes but less frequently. Would I enjoy it as much as I once did? No. Sometimes, the best way to move forward is to stay true to what you do best.

This restaurant has proven to be uncooperative for the following reasons: I faced an unavoidable circumstance that prevented me from honoring my reservation. Unfortunately, I failed to inform the restaurant in advance about canceling the booking. As a result, a fee of £120 was deducted. I reached out to the reservations team and was contacted by someone who introduced himself as the manager, named Sajjan. I tried to negotiate either rescheduling the booking or receiving compensation in the form of a new reservation date. However, he rudely and dismissively refused my request and instructed me to send an email instead. Despite sending an email to the reservations team, no action was taken to address my concern. This experience has revealed their exceptionally poor customer service and lack of care for their patrons. I strongly discourage dining at this establishment, as their customer service is exploitative and unprofessional. My overall rating for this restaurant is exceedingly low.

This restaurant delivers more than just food—it offers an experience that feels a cut above. The standout dishes for me were the Fried Prawns, Lamb Chops, Butter Chicken Masala, and Bengal Lamb Curry. The Mango Chili Daiquiri was a lovely cocktail, and while I didn’t try it myself, the Apple Halwa Tart came highly recommended by a colleague. The service was impeccable—easy to get attention by a number of staff without being intrusive. Located in one of London’s nicer areas, it’s clear this isn’t your average Indian restaurant. Owned by the same people behind Veeraswamy and Amaya, this place is obviously known for delivering quality dining experiences with a modern twist on Indian cuisine. While the prices reflect the quality, it’s worth it for a special occasion. Definitely a memorable dining experience, perfect for when you want something more upmarket without being pretentious. Looking forward to heading back to try more of the menu! Expect to pay around £175 per head for a couple of starters, a couple of mains, accompanying naans, a dessert, two cocktails and service charge.

Trying way too hard. Firstly, it’s a lovely setting, which I think is the primary draw from my experience. The food was decent but far from the best, comparable to Dishoom or similar. Also a little pretentious trying to be quirky rather than good. The ‘popadoms’ were silly little crackers with some fairly tasteless sauces. Lamb chops were very good. Biryani was very good. Stand out was the roti, awful. More like a stale tortilla than a light and fluffy roti as they should be. The service felt very forced and borderline snobby. Didn’t feel welcoming at all and felt like a pastiche of high end. Could/should be great, but feels too forced.

I recently attended a wedding at Chutney Mary, hoping for an authentic taste of Indian cuisine, but unfortunately, it fell far short of expectations. The three-course vegetarian meal lacked both spices and even basic seasoning, with no salt or pepper mills available on the tables. Water was scarce, with only a glass provided after asking, and overpriced wine sold at more than triple the retail price. While the ambiance may cater to those willing to spend generously, the experience offered a watered-down version of Indian culinary tradition. Sadly, this restaurant missed the mark on delivering the vibrant flavors it should have embraced.

The food is delicious, but the service is very bad. There is a 60-pound charge for dinner Honestly, I will never repeat the experience

Chutney Mary provided an unforgettable birthday celebration, thanks to its fantastic blend of great food, atmosphere, and service. My sisters treated me to a meal there, and it couldn’t have been a better choice for the occasion. The food was truly a highlight—elegantly presented and bursting with flavors. Each dish seemed thoughtfully prepared, with a modern twist on traditional Indian cuisine. Whether you’re after rich curries or delicately spiced appetizers, the menu caters to a range of tastes, and everything we tried was absolutely delicious. The atmosphere was equally impressive, offering an upscale yet welcoming vibe. The décor was stylish, with subtle touches of Indian influence that created a warm and inviting environment. It felt like a special place to celebrate, with the perfect balance of elegance and comfort. Service was another standout. The staff was attentive without being overbearing, making sure we were well taken care of throughout the evening. From thoughtful recommendations to timely service, they enhanced the experience, making it feel even more personal and special for a birthday celebration. Overall, Chutney Mary provided the perfect setting for a memorable birthday meal. Whether you’re celebrating or just enjoying a great evening out, this restaurant delivers on every front—food, atmosphere, and service. Highly recommend!

Beautiful restaurant, good service unfortunately Quantity is very small for the price. Taste wise ill say 6/10 on sampling 5 starters and 5 mains and desserts platter. All I can remember is the scallops and lamb shank.

Too expensive. Have to spend a minimum of £60. If you are by yourself, this task is impossible.

Food was fantastic, great flavours and generous portion size. Ambience was spot on, as was the service. Very attentive, friendly and knowledgeable staff. We sat in the main restaurant for dinner before having a nightcap in the bar after our meal and the atmosphere in both areas was good.

Chutney Mary offers both an amazing environment and food. From the very moment you near the building, the door man Salah makes the all the difference; he always welcomes me with kindness and professionalism, as well as a great attitude. I highly recommend experiencing chutney mary for yourself.

Dry pies, microwaved veg, rubbery parsnips, beef gravy served with both steak and ale pie and stodgy chicken pie. Flat beer. If that is what you want from a pub then by all means go here, if not, give it a miss. We were just across the road from here and only visited once and regretted that.

Been a regular and loved it for two years now but the prices, food, and beer selection has gone downhill after the sale to Young's. £16 for a burger without fries? Outrageous to be charging more than burger joints like Five Guys and Shake Shack which have several locations just down the road.

Stumbled into the Coach and Horses by pure chance whilst waiting to go to the Theatre. A tiny pub with a big atmosphere. Singha lager on tap, a nice selection of spirits and space for only twenty seated patrons. Really enjoyed spending a couple of hours here and will definitely call in again.
