Churchill's Fish & Chips Beaulieu Square in Chelmsford

For the second time, Churchill has forgotten an item in my order. When I called the shop to let them know, they clearly didn’t care. They told me I had to come back to collect it, even after I explained that I didn’t live close by. No effort was made to fix their mistake, so I had to drive back myself. By the time I got home, my fish and chips were stone cold. This has happened twice now, and I’m done giving them chances. As for the food, it’s gone downhill. Once upon a time, the quality was decent. But last time, the portions were smaller, and the food was soggy. This time, it was even worse—greasy fish with oil dripping everywhere and soggy chips. For what they charge, the quality of the food and service is unacceptable. I won’t be going back. Very poor overall.

This was the first time I'd had churchills for about a year, and I'll definitely be returning! Delivery on time, cod was piping hot, fresh, crispy, absolutely delicious...as were the chips! Left me yearning for more! Yum!

BEWARE This fish and chip shop has seriously gone down hill. Having had a takeaway on a few occasions we decided to have a Sunday lunch with friends. Having collected our order we were back home in under 4 mins. The haddock was ok if somewhat meatless but the chips……absolutely disgusting. They were rock hard and inedible…possibly re cooked. At the prices this establishment charges you expect perfection. It used to be great….now it’s one of the worst if not the worst in Chelmsford. Avoid and spend your hard earned cash somewhere else.

We fancied a snack, ordered lge chips and curry sauce. We received a very inadequate portion of chips and watered down curry sauce and they had the audacity to charge us £7.40 for the privilege. Never going back. The shop is a 2 minute walk from my house but in future I will going 3 miles away to martellos in chelmer village. Portions are much bigger and freshly cooked!

We’ve used the delivery service twice, first time was late so a one off but second time late again. Such a shame as food is quite good when picking up but it’s not good enough to charge for delivery and fail to meet the times stated. Won’t be ordering here again.

We use Churchills as it’s convenient being a few mins walk away but tonight was the last time as we are fed up being ripped off. We ordered two cheeseburger’s which were supposed to come with chips but when we got home……no chips. How can the staff forget such a fundamental part of the order. It’s not like it was a huge order, there would only have been five items ordered in total so how could the staff preparing the order not realise something was missing. We cooked our own chips but by the time these were ready the burgers were cold and not very nice We also ordered two portions of onion rings at £2.95 per portion……and the portion size….6 onion rings……so that works out at 49p per onion ring……extortionate. This is the last time Churchills mugs us off…..we have given them too many chances and they repeatedly failed……never again.

Not enough staff to provide a service. Staff didn't even try to acknowledge customers waiting to order. The preferred to service the Deliveroo orders that were coming in. Very very poor. Waited 15 minutes to order. God knows how long we'll have to wait for the food

I have been ordering a small portion of fish and chips from here all through the pandemic and since and always been happy. Last night I was really hungry so ordered a standard cod and chips. I am not sure who's 'standard' this was meant to be but it seemed no larger than the Senior portion I usually have. I even went back into the shop to ask if they had given me the correct portion as it was almost £10 and was told it was portioned by weight. If this is the case then the weight should be given on the menu (I didn't check so maybe it was???). I told them that I cannot come back again as very expensive for what it was. I had a slice of toast about 9pm.....No wonder the shop was empty at 5:20pm....also, it could have done with slightly longer in the fryer as the batter was quite soft and wet but that wasn't my complaint.

ThisTakeaway has now become a No go for value for money fish and chips. Arrived and there was No que, and when we ordered they had nothing ready to go. So had a fair wait for our food. On getting home and opening the bag. The fish was so small it could have been a Childs or an OAP meal. At over £11 per meal We won't be going back again. This takeaway used to give good size chips and fish. Now they are ripping people off with the same prices, but much smaller portion sizes. There are far better takeaways to use nearby. Sorry Churchills you lost our business.

My Husband and I used this take away fish and chip shop for Dinner, My Husband had medium Cod and I had a medium Saith We enjoyed a regular portion of chips between us and our plates of food were a delight having been all cooked to order. We look forward to having another fish and chips take away very soon.

Normally very good, our go to local fish & chips. Last night not up to scratch though, cod didn’t seem fresh, kind of chewy…..

Good fish long queues so must be popular. good service with a smile for customers .Worth the wait for the food
