Painfully slow service and inattentive staff. Food is ok but not up to standard for the cost

Ordered a mini fillet meal for my Father. Waited 20 odd minutes for it to be cooked . Only to open it and find the batter was not even cooked. It's was all soggy with no colour in it. You pay £10 for a small bit of fish small chips and mushy peas..... wasn't worth half that money.

Just went to Churchills and was served by the lovely Josh. Great service, great chat and was sooo friendly. The place was spotless and tidy and on top of a fantastic experience, I was given a little Christmas present too. Thank you and Merry Christmas!

Slow, lethargic, bored looking staff who don't operate with any sense of speed at all - it's like they're working in slow motion. Whatever time you out to collect, they simply won't begin until you get there. What's peculiar is the deliveroo/just eat drivers seem to get their orders in hyper speed - I can only think they're prioritising them over walk in/c&c customers....which is pretty disgraceful considering it's the walk-in customers where they make the greatest margin.

We are new to area and looking for a new local fish n chip place. We tried Churchills for first time. It was good, medium cod n chips for two was a bit pricey. But the fish had a lovely light batter, tasted fresh and was quite tasty. The chips were good, could have been cooked a little longer and needed a bit more salt and vinegar, overall it was a 4 out of 5 stars. We'll go again on Saturday and hope the food is just as good if not better than last Saturday.

I usually get good food from here. Today it was not good at all. The chips looked under cooked but were almost solid didn't get a chip any bigger than a 2p coin. Hopefully this was just a bad day, and will be alot better if I ever go back.

After being a loyal customer since it opened, we will NOT be going back. It is the most expensive fish n chip shop in the area which would be fine if the service and food quality matched, which it used to do. Having had poor service on the last couple of occasions, tonight we waited 40minutes for three meals, and when I chased it up, it was clear there was no system being followed. The girl serving didn't know where the manager was, and when he finally appeared, he had no idea what was happening, and was blissfully unaware of the chaos his team was in. The hot window was full of food but everyone seemed to have been waiting at least 25-30mins for their food. When they finally boxed it up, the chips were undercooked. We're understanding of a bad night, but it is clear the management and training is seriously lacking, so we'll be taking our business elsewhere from now on.

Honestly how can you send out a fish and chips order without the chips? We have ordered on and off for years and its hit and miss, last month everything was fine (just fine nothing to write home about) , today was rubbish. Ordeed via deliveroo and they forgot to put in the chips and the haddock was really thin, prices have increased and it just doesn't look worth it any more. What are you meant to do when half your order doesn't arrive? They sound completely unbothered about it so it's no wonder - We won't bother either.

Isaac is a very friendly and welcoming face. Lovely Halloumi burgers and chips, quality and *huge* Onion Rings. Lovely history and info on the walls too.

Done via Deliveroo. Was told Tatar sauce would be included. Written on the receipt, but not included. How difficult is it to follow and check your orders??!

Onion rings - in a very thin "batter" coating were very tasty. Only problem was an odd number for a shared portion for 2 of us!

I don’t know what it is with the whole country but no one can cook a chip anymore? I even said make sure there crispy. I got albino, soft on outside hard inside. A lot on menu should just do back to fish and chips and get that right 1st!! The cost of everything these days too, doesn’t match up with quality and value. Avoid sorry

Food was okay, batter on fish and sausages was lacking a bit of crunch but still was nice, specially dipped in the curry sauce. The main issue was when waiting, two of the members of staff serving were just a little unprofessional, flirty bickering, moaning how slow the day is going, and just lobbing peoples food orders around a little carelessly, which I didn’t think is on.

Can highly recommend the 3 piece chicken - just as good, if not better than a well known brand!

Food wasn't fresh and the friers had been turned off for the night. This was at 9pm. Therefore received very dry and cold food

I ordered 2 medium cod and chips and 2 x jumbo sausages at 6:50 pm and paid £42. This is the most expensive take away in High Wycombe. Delivered at 7:33pm and we tipped driver £2 only to discover we had been delivered the wrong order. We got 1 fish cake chips and a coke. We phoned Churchill's and spoke to Francisco who really was no help. He even dare to say we won’t have dinner tonight and someone else got our order. We had a very busy week and this experience has only made it worse. Francisco didn’t care and offered no resolution apart from call deliveroo or the head office on Monday. This is absolutely disgusting service. If they can’t deliver the goods, keep with just collection services. I’m so upset I can’t stop writing about it. I would rate Churchill’s minus 5 if I could.

Great fish and chips, but when you pre ordered food often takes much longer than the collection time given to be ready.

We ordered last minute, we ordered over £40 and on arrival the whole meal was cold, at the start the driver tried to give me the wrong order, we contacted Deliveroo and was asked a fear few questions regarding our food and was given £9.48 in compensation for a cold dinner. I think this needs to be looked at by the shop of how many orders they give the driver as this would limit the amount of cold food in future.

Expensive for what you get and prepare for a long wait even when they are empty

It has happened before and it happened again. Somehow, despite definitely getting each item ready to pack ( I saw him do it) , the assistant failed to put the full order into the bag - which I only discovered when I got home. I suppose I should have checked before leaving the shop - but then again, so should he! The food we had was fine, but enough is enough, I won't be visiting them again.

In the past, my son in law has ordered several deliveries to feed a family group and items were missing from each. Nevertheless, a couple of days ago I went in person to buy and collect 3 items, and despite me seeing the assistant get all three ready to pack he only managed to put two in the bag - which I only discovered after I got home and it wasn't worth going all the way back. Surely it's not too much to ask that the staff always do a final check to make sure all items paid for are actually packed? This is the second time this has happened to me, I should not have persisted. I will never be ordering from, or going here again.

Prices are supposedly discounted for Pensioners, many of whom are housebound. Able-bodied people with transport who don’t like using delivery services try to pick up meals for them. If they, themselves are not an elderly person Churchills don’t believe them and won’t honour the price. There must be some way of proving who the food is for in order to be charged correctly. It’s a big price difference for old folk on a fixed income.

Pretty disappointed as I had high expectations from an ‘Award winning’ chippy. Far too oily for my liking, the fish was drenched in oil and very soggy. Chips were average. I’ve had better from my local takeaway so probably will not go back.

Just had haddock cod and allegedly large chips, there was barely twenty chips in the portion, batter wasn't even cooked through and the chips were anemic, we've been coming here for three years but we will not be coming back, absolutely disgraceful

My disabled friend wanted a hot meal so asked me to get fish and chips from here as the better shop was closed .when I served them up the chips were insipid and colourless I thought they had forgotten the fish but there it was cowering behind a small chip. Ive had some bad meals all over this country and this was right up there with them ,I won't go here again even if was free

We have had several problems with the food from this shop over the years. It’s strange because after we report the problem to the management the quality improves for a bit but then gets bad again. Last night for quickness we decided that we would buy a portion of chips to go with the ham we had just cooked. My wife went down and bought them and was back in the house within a very short space of time. Well we have never tasted anything more disgusting. The chips were stone cold and in bits. We ended up throwing them away. How can this shop keep giving the public rubbish. We are not the only ones to complain, it’s time for this chippie to shut up shop because their offering is just not good enough

I was also very pleased to find that there wasn't a scrap of disposable plastic in the take-away packaging - a cardboard box stopped the fish from getting squished, chips were wrapped in paper, and all kept together in a sturdy brown paper bag. That gets a big thumbs up from me! Nothing went particularly soggy on the journey home, either, which was nice.

Great fish and chips cooked to order. Edit ... Been a few times since and standards have dropped went again March 2022, totally different, £10 for medium fish and chips, fish was dry and chips were all bits, certainly won't be returning.

Good quality food, but expensive.

Very good chip shop - highly recommend! However, be prepared to add salt and vinegar at home - I can’t count the amount of times they haven’t added it to my order despite telling them when ordering.

Lovely fish and chips, very enjoyable. Disappointed that they did not read the special instructions on the Web order and so had to wait a further 15 minutes for my order past allotted order time.

First time trying the GF option ( and actual chip shop ) Used their website to preorder our choices and was able to collect in max 20mins GF fish was plentiful in size ( did not order large) The GF curry sauce was lovely Family had normal chips , pie and sausage All the food was hot and tasty They offer GF OPTIONS every Monday and Tuesday and if you live in a just eat area they can be ordered for delivery too. The GF fish was really nice the batter was crispy and the fish was flakey We will definitely order from again PS The chip portion is a lot larger but I only wanted a smaller portion

Ordered large cod and chips twice, no large cod, so had medium, but for some stupid reason, he didn't think I wanted chips! So got home, and only had half my food!

Don't know how to store food correctly whilst it is waiting to be collected resulting in food being cold by the time you get it home. Senior Management reluctant to act following complaints. Would avoid at all costs!

The double chicken burger was pretty good but a bit dry and the chips were old bottom of the fryer it was horrible. Probably better at other times

This is a very nice and friendly place. I always go there because the fish and chicken is very fresh.

Used it about ten times and usually good but staff seem to have had charm by-passes. Robotic/unsmiling. They do cheaper packages for pensioners, I was told. Cheaper than some others, they said.

Well presented clean chip shop with good internet website for ordering and collection. Nicely packaged and marketed but the food is just so bland. I am not sure why it just has no taste. I would love to give this a better review as very professional set up other than the main event which is the food! Real shame.

Sunday evening, Just got fish&chips fish cake & chips so disappointed not hot, chips were soggy fish cake looked like it been there a month last time I go there.

We are so thrilled to have found this place. In a place where the sea feels so far away, Churchill’s brings a bit of the seaside inland. We like to drive up and look over the valley and eat our fish and chips and we truly love being able to easily, quickly and safely, get our favourite and do just that. Thank you, and see you soon!

Went to Churchill's at hazlemere. Quickly left before ordering when saw that staff were not wearing face masks. No wonder covid is on the rise in this area.

Ordered through just eat, food cold when delivered, price extortionate. It’s wrong to charge delivery per item. When I’ve been in and collected it, it’s cheaper & hot and normally okay!

Here we have Churchills, the chain of fish and chip shop that will not cook fish for a customer. If it's not in the cabinet tough luck. And dont be surprised or disappointed if it's a tad on the cold side. It is also very expensive..... however ......... ....... If you want a real decent fish and chips the Takeaway on the cozy Corner at beginning of the Parade is highly recommended. They cook fresh and nothing is too much trouble. Served nice and hot, really tasty as it should be. Take your pick

Their decor is so on point. The only authentic British Fish and Chips prepared by British lads. Chips were amazing not soggy as most are. Freshness is amazing!

Probably the worst and most expensive chips I have ever had. We use Churchill for a coue of years and had good experiences. Sunday we paid £39pounds got old chips that had been cooked hours earlier could not be eaten We did not get the sauces ordered and no salt and vinegar on the chips very disappointing Whoever owns this franchise needs to train their staff.
