We pulled into this pub on Monday lunch for a pint and a bite to eat. The barman immediately asked us if we were coming in for food, to which we replied, “yes, for a sandwich perhaps”. “Oh no, sorry”, he said, “we can’t do any food today”, despite the signs visible from the road saying they did. No wonder pubs are going bankrupt everywhere. With this attitude to customers, this one won’t be around very long. If you’re heading south, try the Fox and Goose at Coombe Bissett; they were happy to serve us good food and drink.

Called in for lunch as we hadn't visited before. We weren't disappointed as the food was good and the staff friendly. Very relaxed atmosphere.

Abbiamo fatto una sosta qui durante un viaggio in Inghilterra: cibo ottimo, personale cortese e gentile ... consigliatissimo. Personalmente, se possibile, ci ritornerò.

I decided to nip in for a couple of pints to see if the place has improved. I didn't even finish the first pint. When is West Lavington going to have a pub that is good for locals. Fewer locals are using this pub. It's a pity.

After a day at Longleat this pub was the perfect stop on the way home. We enjoyed spring rolls to share as a starter and good honest food for mains (lasagne and scampi and chips). All food and drink was reasonably priced and staff were very friendly and helpful.

My wife and I with our son decided to stop here for lunch on bank holiday Monday, staff are very helpful and kind, food did take some time, but after this came we could tell that it was fresh cooked food and very tasty. Would recommend as good place to eat.

After a visit of Stonehenge we found this lovely place on the main road for a lunch break. We had starters: fried cambert cheese and large champignons stuffed with goat cheese - great! The main was fish and chips, with some cider. Unfortunately we did not stay near this village - I would love to go back for other meals! Interesting was the aquarium: inside a model of a shot down German plan, patrolled by a dog - watching it ...

Without being too melodramatic, the roast i ordered last sunday was dreadful. The beef was so dry and overcooked it was curlin up. The parsnips were like wood shavings and the potatoes tasted as if they d been hanging/ drying out in a hot cupboard for a few hours. On the positives The broccoli was good, i never ate my meal, nor did my mother as her pork was also very dry and over cooked. Service on the other hand was good and noted we had left our meals, offered us complementary desserts / drinks which we declined. To their credit they did not charge us for ONE of our meals, when we paid.

We stayed at La Motte B&B in West Lavington, which is nice but does not offer evening meals. There are several pub restaurants close to the village but the Churchill Arms across the road serves good pub food and real ales. Recently under new management, it is a traditional English country pub and restaurant, serving un-fussy food and real ale; try the Swordfish. Bitter, that is... The young staff are attentive and friendly and the food is plentiful and freshly cooked. Good value for money, too. It is just what one would expect of the English countryside; oak board floors, open fires and Jack, the pub dog to welcome you - and perhaps scrounge some of your leftovers, if there are any.

We were a bit early for dinner but the staff were very friendly. They welcomed us and offered to open the dining area for us, but we opted to stay in the pub area, specially as I noticed some cute dogs. The food was served quickly and was very delicious. I loved the friendly local people who came in to have some drink and how they were all like friends. Unlike many other pubs we've been too, the music wasn't loud, and actually was very pleasant. Also I loved how dogs were welcomed in there.

New management has transformed this, my local village pub, into a warm, welcoming environment. All the food is home-made by Alison - even makes her own pasta, now that's dedication! The Sunday Carvery is not to be missed & home-made sticky toffee pudding is hard to ignore. The landlord, Mick is always around to welcome you & the staff are all regulars so service is exactly as it should be. If you're not local there are so many things to visit near by: Stonehenge, Salisbury, Bath, Devizes with the famous Caen Hill Locks, Avebury, Bowood, Salisbury Plain - to name a few. Try the village web-site: http://westlavington.info/out_and_about.html

The homemade pasta with mushrooms dish - me and my partner were eating that over and over again in our sleep, it was THAT good! Great service, willing to help with everything and every penny or pound well spent!

Aware this has been recently opened having been closed for many months - I sadly feel if they don’t improve this pub it will close again it has the potential to be a lovely homely pub but at present it’s very tired & need of some TLC as it’s looking very tired & old and says something when it only offers two very basic gins

For a quick bite to eat, it was okay. Table service was a little abrupt. Food was good and filled a hole. Would return if in the town again.
