We were here for an 80th birthday party and the food was delicious, well presented and very reasonably priced! The service was brilliant and staff were very friendly and funny! I was amazed to learn the staff were all volunteers who run the restaurant and upkeep of the house - which has been beautifully decorated. We were gifted a voucher for afternoon tea for our 50th wedding anniversary and we were very impressed. The food was absolutely brilliant with four varieties of finger sandwiches, warm sausage roll, scones with jam and cream, trifle in a tea cup and four varieties of cakes. We visited here for afternoon tea by recommendation. The buidling is close to the centre of Great Harwood and is quite impressive and set it attractive grounds. The staff were attentive and involved and the food quality was quite good. I would have liked to have been able to to choose the composition of the sandwiches as I am not fond of salmon. There were 4 finger sandwiches pper person however there was little attempt to providing appropriate accompaniments, with just an attempt at a small piece of quiche that didn't work. There was an ample amount of cakes plus a trifle in a cup. I was pleased that hot chocolate was available as a substitute to tea and I was impressed by the attractive and distinctive crockery.

I have been meaning to call in here for years as the cheese pie has such a great reputation. I reserved a slot and wasn’t disappointed. The pie was one of the best I have eaten away from home. We visited Churchfield House recently and enjoyed fantastic hospitality. We were visiting Great Harwood for a Christening at St Bartholomew's Church. We had arrived a little ahead of time and were looking for somewhere for a hot drink and a light snack. When I first approach the restaurant (via the rear door it transpired) I was politely advised they didn't open until 12.00pm. As I began to walk away to update the rest of my family, a lady asked what we wanted. When I said a drink, she very kindly told us to walk round to the restaurant and they would be happy to serve us. Once inside the restaurant, the welcome, hospitality and service were absolutely first class. I feel terrible I didn't ask the lady who served us what her name was, but she was brilliant. Even though we had initially asked just for drinks, the lady offered toast or cake as we had explained we had travelled up from the Midlands. We were served a big pot of tea and told to ask if it needed topping up, followed by a big plate of toast with butter and jam. We were made to feel very welcome even though I believe the restaurant wasn't actually open to customers and were if fact preparing for lunch service. In fact, looking at the lunch menu, I was sorely tempted to miss the Christening and stop for lunch !! Highly recommended, just a real pity it's so far away.

Visited with my mum and sister. Lovely place to dine, everywhere was spotlessly clean and old-school chic. We had sea bass plus homemade meat pie, all with fresh vegetables and it was fabulous. All in all we’re looking forward to going back again soon, would highly recommend this great venue.

Home cooked food has become a widely used phrase which used to convey that the food was wholesome and taste, just like grandma used to make. Nowadays it is used more as a catchall marketing term with no real meaning. Not at Churchfield House in Great Harwood. The food is homemade by a team of trained volunteers. This makes the exceptional quality of the dishes even more remarkable. The price is is as remarkable as the quality. We had a starter (Prawn Tempura), maincoursr of pan fried fillet of sea bass with a superb plate of creatively cooked vegetables, finished with a coffee all for under £12.Excetional. The service was also excellent, again all provided by great volunteers.

We are regular customers for lunch after church on Sunday. The staff do a splendid job with limited facilities. There is always a wide choice of Specials including a roast of some kind. The choice may be too wide to provide a slick service, however, it does allow time to digest the sermon. Carol our normal waitress is usually on hand to explain what's available and save a slice of custard tart for pudding. It's a charming little gem which I hope remains secret.
