Visited for a pre theatre supper……excellent new offering of two starters and 2 sides for £15.00 per person. Great choice of options….really fun and different menu.

Excellent roast lunch. Beef cooked to perfection and belly pork melted in the mouth. Great Yorkshire puddings and cauliflower cheese well worth adding. Service very efficient, friendly and knowledgeable. Highly recommend.

My husband and I popped in here for a drink, which turned into two drinks, which then turned into a long leisurely lunch! The ambience is lovely - very relaxing; the food was delicious and the service could not have been better - Phil (the Manager) really looked after us…We will definitely be coming back and we would definitely recommend this place!

This is my third visit to dine in the restaurant in the past month and every time it gets better. The food is always perfect, really friendly and assertive staff. I would highly recommend and will most definitely be returning.

My partner and I spent a great evening at the townhouse, we had the valentines menu, I had the steak and she had the cod and it was fantastic. Not only was the food great but the service was impeccable, we were served by the red haired bearded gentleman who made us feel like we were the only people in the room and suggested a perfect wine for my steak! This was our first visit but we will definitely be back!

We arrived without reservation but were met by a charming young waiter called Eddy. He said he would try to find us a table but before he returned an older guy called Danny approached us and barked “do you want a table?” We said yes and he took us to a table right next to the serving hatch when other tables were available. When we came to order my wife asked for the vegetarian option and he just shook his head and said no! There was an awkward silence until I said “ have you run out?” Only then did he say they had but didn’t offer an alternative! My wife revisited the menu and chose Salmon. No apology or explanation from Danny! Food came and we were very disappointed. Salmon overcooked and my braised beef looked anemic and was tasteless. Mine was supposed to come with Tenderstem but I only got soggy red cabbage. We normally have more drinks and dessert but couldn’t wait to leave this place. Eddy thanked us for our business and was very attentive so we tipped for him but will not be back. Some people are just in the wrong job.

Disappointing. Arrived for a booked table for lunch. The liver pate was tasty but there wasn’t enough toast with it and the plate was too small. The ravioli was also good but there was no Parmesan- we were offered grated cheese instead. Service was poor. Would not recommend

Stayed a night in this charming, quirky place with an old world experience of a country inn, pub, tea room all rolled in one. Conveniently located, it is walking distance from all important tourist spots. We had a relaxed dinner, and the complementary breakfast was good. All in all we had a great stay in this quintitential English small hotel.

We enjoyed a lovely meal here the first evening in Stratford. We hadn't booked and the restaurant was quiet but both the food and service was great, nothing was too much trouble and the young man who served us was excellent, we will return next time we are in the area

Things started well with a good value”pre theatre” lunch at £15.95 for two courses. The baked Brie starter was crisp and hot oozing cheese and with a fresh side salad. The fish and chips, unfortunately was a disappointment. An insubstantial piece of fish with plenty of batter served alongside copious quantities of over salted fries-not chips-that were a little too al dente. The server, who was pleasant and hard pressed to cover bar and restaurant on her own, asked how the meal was and was told. Her reply was a smile and “ok!”. A fellow diner was heard to complain that her meal was cold and was also greeted with the same lack of interest. No acknowledgment whatsoever was made that we hadn’t been satisfied with our meals. Mistakes happen everywhere and we all make them-it’s how you respond that counts and a response of any kind was distinctly lacking at this place. I would not recommend.

This was our first trip away together, and followed a very tough couple of years, and we could not have been more pleased with the hotel. A very warm welcome, and personally taken up to our room. We loved that there was a little fridge to keep fresh milk in (in a little jar) and the bathroom was huge with an amazing roll top bath! I had to visit Lush to make the most of it! The continental breakfast was good, and Sally was happy to provide non dairy milk and GF bread on request. She even remembered the next day too! Everywhere felt clean and comfortable, and the atmosphere was lovely. Thank you for a great stay x

We had an excellent Sunday roast which we ate in the little courtyard garden. The vegetables were of a high quality and delicious.

Visited Townhouse with my family and I didn't disappoint! Main menu is really simple but really good, well presented and taste just great. Sunday roast looks amazing and gravy is home made so win win there. Decor is amazing and staff always chatty and happy to help. Definitely highly recommend.

Came in for Sunday lunch and after having a few pints of dome lovely Erdinger had probably the best dinner in a long while. Had the scotch eggs for starter and they were gorgeous and then followed by a pork dinner which I can only describe as magnificent and probably the best Sunday dinner I've ever tasted. Missis had beef and she said the same thing so special thanks to chefs waiters and managers for making our day which was accompanied by a lovely lady singer 10/10

Unless you want a pub, there's not much open on a Sunday after 7pm for dinner in Stratford. However, you can't book online (despite them saying you can) and we couldn't get through by phone to book a table either! The dining area is well decorated, if the service a bit slow. The steak and chips were perfect and cooked as expected. The salmon dish nice but not sure why it's the only dish on the menu not served with any carbohydrate. Husband wouldn't order again because of this. They'd run out of cheese and biscuits too which we thought was a bit poor. Desserts were good though.

Really pleased I booked this place and had a lovely table for four pre theatre. Warm service and professional staff team and chef who really know what they are doing and worked hard. A very minor hiccup in bringing the wrong food out for one guest but the staff member impeccably rectified and resolved, without us needing to ask. I felt the food and wine to be really good value. Enjoyed the set menu. The fish cassoulet was delicious and generous portion of freshly cooked fish and shellfish. The venue itself was very comfortable, historical and interesting, with a a great spot in the town.

Fabulously situated close to absolutely everything in the middle of Stratford-upon-Avon. Staff were fantastic and couldn't do enough to help. The room was clean and very comfortable. We had dinner one evening and it was extremely good. Definitely recommended

We chose the Townhouse because their website said they made a vegan roast, and made a reservation which stated one of our party was vegan. We entered the building by walking past an outdoor blackboard also advertising the vegan roast. However, as we were seated we were told they'd run out of the vegan roast, but were offered a meal based around all the trimmings instead. We sat down and ordered drinks including a mocktail from their menu. After the other drinks were served, a member of the bar staff came over to declare they didn't "carry" one of the ingredients. This was reiterated several times in such a way to make it sound like we had ordered something ridiculous, as opposed to something off the bar menu. When it came to ordering the food it transpired that the trimmings-based vegan option wasn't in fact an option. The only other vegan option was a fregola sarda, which was advertised as coming with roasted squash, sprout tops and salsa verde. What arrived at the table was some giant couscous swimming in oil with a few tomatoes, some artichokes and a lot of salt, not what we were expecting. The meal was left half eaten and when clearing our plates the waiter asked if everything had been ok with the food. We explained the issue with the vegan dish and he said he'd pass it on to the kitchen. The staff made no offer of apology at any point. Cannot recommend if you're hoping to order any of the vegan options.

We enjoyed a wonderful evening at the Stratford Townhouse celebrating a family birthday. The food was excellent and the staff were very helpful and friendly, particularly Carolina! Just before midnight we asked if it was too late to order coffee, and the lady behind the bar obliged, even though she had just cleared away and cleaned the coffee machine!

This is my first visit to The Townhouse in Stratford-upon-Avon and I am super impressed! We came for breakfast, the surroundings are comfy and clean. Our waiter Tristan was superb....friendly, efficient and on the ball! Nothing was too much trouble and he also had lots of excellent banter! We also feel the need to mention the food which was super tasty! Adrian the chef needs a cheer! Will definitely visit again!

Lovely Sunday dinner with 4 adults, toddler and a newborn. The restaurant couldn’t do enough to accommodate us and Tristan our waiter was fantastic. Really tasty lunch but also a warm and inviting atmosphere, looking forward to returning. Huge thank you to Tristan for taking good care of us :)

From the moment we arrived at this amazing establishment we had both incredible service and amazing food. Our server for the night Tristan was amazing having casual banter with us tableside but also being knowledgeable about the menu and drinks on offer. He was very accommodating and friendly providing top notch service and brilliant atmosphere throughout our date night. I would definitely recommend this as a casual date spot,business meeting or just a good lunch.

The buffet food at my party was really fresh and very tasty - the staff brought it out in stages to keep all the food totally fresh which kept the guest very happy. All the staff were very attentive and looked after us all fantastically.

My girlfriend and I had a delightful meal the other night at The Townhouse. The food was consistently excellent, the atmosphere was warm and humble and most of all the price was not extortionate (something of a rarity nowadays in Stratford). I must highlight the service; our waiter, Tristan, was chatty but not intimidating, attentive but not intrusive and elevated the evening even further. I can only hope that when we return - which we definitely will - our second experience lives up to this.

I'm not sure whether we chose the wrong night for a meal but we were very disappointed. We chose sirloin steak with bottle of wine which was on special offers menu. We were given rump steak which was very chewy and not cooked as requested, even after going back to kitchen for a few minutes under the grill. Also, the chips were pale and dry. We were presented with the bill before we'd finished drinking our wine and almost immediately were given the card machine to pay - were not even asked if we wanted a dessert. It was most disappointing as we had been previously about a year ago and we had a lovely meal.

Six of us ate there on the 18th Jan. The food was amazing. Best pie I’ve ever had (and I’ve had a few). All of the food was great, friendly staff and good choice of wine. Will be back!

I go weekly with a group of friends as well as on an individual basis we {the friends 24 in all} have our post Christmas lunch here and have never been unhappy about the arrangements, food, presentation, price or staff all of whom are very efficient and do their best to be of assistance - Neil, the Manager, is a very nice, informative and extremely helpful. Well worth visiting for, coffee, a meal, a function or even to stay in one of the rooms/suites {I do hav to say that I hav never stayed there as I do live in Stratford-upon-Avon.

Every year in the last six years, thanks to my job I could enjoy an average of five-six Christmas parties each year. The Townhouse was by far the best location to celebrate ours -- what impressed me more was the impeccable service. Do not look any further, this is the place. And, do not forget to ask for Carolina, she was the one who did the magic for us :-)

Booked a meal here for my husband's 60th birthday. There was only one other occupied table at 8.30pm. Overpriced for a steak that was cold. Peppercorn sauce and Bernaise sauce was also cold so asked for it to be reheated. Told that Bernaise sauce is served cold. Never before have I had cold Bernaise sauce. Basically paid £104 for 2 starters (these were very nice) and 2 steak meals that were cold, a bottle of wine and water priced at £3.75. Chef went home early and we left just over an hour after arriving. Paid £9.40 for a service charge. WHAT SERVICE. May I add that all staff we dealt with were very pleasant. But food below average. Will not return. This should have been a special occasion but it was ruined. We have been in stratford for the last 2 nights and eaten at a variety of restaurants but I am sorry to say this was the worst.

Great food and service in a lovely venue. All the staff were really friendly and had character rather than just taking an order and serving food. Came to Stratford-Upon-Avon for the day and the building looked lovely so came in. The food was amazing and the staff were very helpful. Will be coming back in a few weeks to stay, the rooms look great.

He estado en este restaurante varias veces y esta será la última. Quedarse sin eglefino, patatas fritas y Guinness. Ok, era el día de las finales de rugby pero aún así. . así que no podía tener una comida o bebida favorita Mesa de seis y pagó 40 por cabeza sin postres y solo unas pocas bebidas. Prefiero ir a algún lugar con más variedad y ambiente para comer a este precio. Está bien ir a tomar una copa, pero el restaurante realmente no es para nosotros.

We decided to book here last minute as were going to the theatre and were not disappointed. We have been once before and the food was good. They have a pre theatre menu which you choose off the normal menu but we decided to have the fish sharing platter to start and was not disappointed.

We love to eat and drink here, with family and friends, good choice of beers, great atmosphere and dog friendly in the bar and library. They have seasonal menus and the Sunday lunches are very good. We had a wake here for my mother in law, they put on a great spread and we had the library to ourselves, the team did a great job and a big thank you to Natalie.

We met friends here for lunch. It was very quiet generally. The food chosen was ok but not especially warm. I had noticed it come out but no one brought it so had to tell the staff. There was some form of heated discussion in the kitchen, clearly overheard by ourselves, not really what was needed.

Food is always well cooked and plentiful and tasty.

The restaurant is in a hotel pub and very popular with locals. There is often live music on a Friday/Saturday night playing in the background. We have visited several times. Sunday lunch is very good value for money and one of the better places in Stratford Upon Avon

In our long quest to find a great Sunday lunch we finally did ! Roast Pork and beef with all the trimmings, great service , good wine and a lovely restaurant , will definitely return .

Just arrived home from a four day stay here. Where to start ???? Fabulous, fabulous , fabulous. In a great location, only five minute walk from RSC, shops and restaurants on your doorstep. Room was excellent. One of the comfiest beds we’ve slept in. Bedding crisp and clean. Everything you needed in it. Coffee maker, kettle, selection of teas and coffee. Even a hairdryer, iron and ironing board . Selection of toiletries in bathroom , which was huge ! Roll top bath, plus walk in shower. Could not fault them on anything at all ! Breakfast was well cooked and delicious. So substantial we never ate again till the evening ! And last but not least have to mention the staff. A joy one and all. Helpful, friendly, nothing too much trouble. Caroline in particular made mornings a joy. She was always there with a beaming smile, and so very friendly. We will definitely go back. This hotel is a jewel in the crown of Stratford .

I brought my fiance here as a treat because we always walk past and say we should go in. But somehow we never did. After eating at you fantastic venue I can see how much of a mistake not coming in was. The food was incredibly good and looked fantastic without being pompous or over the top the scallops that I had on the cauliflower purée were incredible like eating them of a cloud. The dining room looked great loved the rustic feel and great colour pallet made the room pop. Our service was brilliant my finance was a little cold but didn't want to say anything. But she picked up on it and put the heating on just for us. Felt very personal and special. The atmosphere was incredibly welcoming and tbh I'm not usually a fan of live music but it was very nice and tasteful. Overall I was very impressed and will definitely be back thank you.

We stayed here for a night and had the breakfast in the morning. The breakfast was lovely and the staff really helpful and friendly. We chose to have the avocado and quinoa which was really nice but would say it needs just a little more avocado but very tasty. There was fruit or cereal to chose from and coffee and juice. So wish I had an evening meal here and would defiantly have one when I return to the area.

Firstly we stopped in one of the hotel bedrooms as well as eating here. The bedroom we had was the disabled room which was lovely in size with a wet room which covered the request i had for easy access to a shower for my mum, so off to a great start. Room was clean and bed was comfortable. The drain in the bathroom needs cleaning as i was having to switch off the shower every now and again to ensure I didn’t flood the bathroom. The cleaner came to do the room at 4pm which at the time we was getting ready to go out for food as going to the theatre later that day, so had to turn them away. So the £130 room only price i would say is a little expensive it should really include breakfast. Saying that the food we had on night one was lovely cannot fault it and same with the breakfast. The main plus point to this hotel is location it is brilliantly central to everything.

“The Townhouse” was recommended by the Tourist Information Kiosk when I asked for a recommendation for a restaurant for lunch that wasn’t “touristy” and had good food! This was the first name out of the guides mouth. We were greeted and seated promptly by Lee and both Carolina and Lee acted as our servers. We started with the Pigs in Blanket and Chorizo starters, both were delicious! I had the vegan burger, which was probably one of the tastiest non meat burgers I’ve ever had. My husband had one of the pies of the day (there were two) Chicken, Ham and Leek. Both meals were excellent as was the service! Highly recommend and would definitely go back if ever in Stratford-upon-Avon!

Nos dijeron que no había cerdo disponible. Pedimos bebidas que fueron olvidadas y después de 10/15 minutos tuvimos que recordarles, aunque ciertamente no estaban tan ocupados. Mi hija se ha mostrado muy interesada en comer de manera más saludable y, por lo tanto, principalmente vegetariana, por lo tanto, antes de hacer la reserva, revisé el menú para asegurarme de que tenía una opción (había 3 en la sección principal del plato). Came to the Townhouse and stayed for dinner, been back for a drink and a lunch time bar snack since too. A few too many negative comments in other reviews if you ask me. The food is clearly of a high standard and the menus are vast, I get the impression you cagoule ask for what ever you wanted and they would oblige. We will be back.

Vine aquí para cenar con unos amigos que viven en la zona y tuvimos la peor experiencia en Stratford. Pedí el linguini de gambas y chorizo que era soso, aburrido, sin sabor, y en 16. 50 fue un timo. Lo envié de vuelta y luego me dijeron que así era como normalmente lo servía el chef. Bueno, si así es como lo sirven, no es de extrañar por qué murió aquí. También nos sentimos apresurados para hacer el pedido y pudimos escuchar al chef presionando a la camarera para que tomara el pedido si quería irse a casa temprano. No volveremos otra vez!

Solíamos amar este lugar y nos disculpamos por no haber escrito una crítica positiva anteriormente. 8 de nosotros comimos anoche, las otras tres parejas estaban bien conectadas con los lugareños. El servicio es bueno, pero la comida es realmente de segunda clase. Todavía nos divertíamos como siempre, pero tristemente a pesar de la comida.

Nos quedamos un poco decepcionados con The Townhouse. Supuestamente 400 años pero demasiado moderno internamente. Sólo visitamos para bebidas pero encontramos la zona del bar y el personal funcional pero decepcionante.

I’ve tried on occasions to forgive The Townhouse for such poor customer service to the point that on Mother’s Day afternoon we called in for a few drinks after lunch out.

Dos de nosotros fuimos a buscar comida: aceitunas y hummus compartidos para comenzar, los dos comimos solomillo de bistec para los platos principales y en total solo tres pintas llegaron a más de 90. . . Nos sentamos en una mesa cerca de la puerta de entrada, en la vía entre el bar y la cocina; la zona carecía de ambiente.

My new wife and I have just returned from our wedding celebration at The Townhouse and I have to say we were mightily impressed as were all of our guests. Rachel and I chose the Townhouse for its proximity to the Stratford upon Avon registry office in the first instance, the fact it had an intimate room which was just the right size for our party for our wedding breakfast (23) with the ability to break out into the bar for our evening guest (approx 65) was really important as was the availability of some exquisite rooms on site for us and our guests who were travelling from far and wide. To be perfectly honest the build up was far from perfect with a change of manager and arrangements that had been previously agreed not passed on which caused us some unwelcome stress. But I can only say that on the day the team lead by Natalie went well above and beyond. From the moment we walked in they were 100% attentive and looked after us magnificently. The food was unbelievably good every plate on all three courses were polished off, well with the exception of the chocolate brownie deserts which were huge !!!! Even the cones of fish and chips in the evening were scrumptious and they accommodated my daughters celiac with ease. The next mornings full English was the best breakfast I have had in many a year and helped with the after effects of a 12 hour celebration. ALL of our guests had nothing but praise for the venue the food and the staff we HIGHLY recommend this venue for that special celebration

Really cosy place, right in the middle of town. I ordered a coffee from Imy, who was extremely welcoming and makes a great latte! Would definitely visit again!

The food is always good at The Town House but I have send in this review because of the appalling behaviour of the waiter who partly looked after us and took our bill. Really rude. He was clearly upset over something but he seemed so angry with us that we left the restaurant bewildered and upset. This was my birthday dinner, a special occasion. It was ruined. At the last this fellow made it seem like we couldn’t leave the room quickly enough. Not a pleasant experience.

I’m really not sure where to start, trying to get any staffs attention was hard enough. They all seem to congregate in the kitchen like it’s a social gathering.

We live in Stratford, and have enjoyed going to the Townhouse for a meal marking a special occasion. It has been at the top of our list of places to go for a meal. No more. We were treated rudely by the apparent manager on duty. We have always found the food to be exceptional, but, service skills matter, and those are now sadly lacking.

We’ve been here a couple of times now for dinner but sadly whilst the food is great, the service has much to improve on.

Cannot fault this place at all. Classy, relaxed, good value. Great service. We have eaten there in the presence of families as well as couples. Great for a romantic date or a family breakfast.

We enjoyed a superb evening of wining and dining in the Library last night. Our parfait and chateaubriand was the best we have eaten in Stratford. My fussy cheffy husband was in foody heaven. Wonderful service from happy, well trained staff.

Wanted to try this out, really regret it. This is the second Brakspear restaurant I have visited, the other being The George, Shipston-on-Stour. They have the same issues, need a decent manager to hire good staff and serve good food. Such a shame because both venues could be great.
