Great food at a great price, second time using them and will go again. The place is not much to look at but you go for the food not the waiting area

Had a range of things to takeaway and enjoyed them. Chips a bit too salty (pre salted). Sweet and sour sauce a bit weak and too vinegary. But otherwise pretty decent.

We picked up a Take away , nice and fresh , medium portions, decent prices. Will use again when in the area!

Ordered a takeaway whilst on holiday in Bude. Definitely wouldn't use Chung's again. The meals were totally tasteless. Battered chicken was thin shreds of chicken, with lots of chewy batter. Wouldn't recommend at all. On the plus side the guy serving was polite and friendly.

Does exactly what we hoped it would do, a nice chinese takeaway for the family on our holiday in Bude.

We have come to Bude for a New Year Break and decided to have a Chinese takeaway .We we’re rather worried because the reviews were not good . But we decided on Chungs and we were not disappointed , so please don’t be put off . We did have to wait a bit longer than expected but it was New Years Eve . We ordered the duck with pancakes honey spare ribs mushroom chow mein chicken satay sweet and sour chicken Hong Kong style chilli beef all of the dishes were lovely fresh and hot would really recommend Chungs if in Bude . They only take cash though .

Takeaway for 2, just really Poor quality, sauces thin, ribs tough and barely any meat, chicken balls tiny and not much chicken inside. Haven’t been here for years, thought I’d give it another go… now I know why I use silver river. How people rate this over the rivals is beyond me. Must improve chungs!

Delicious! Really hot food freshly cooked and very tasty. We aren’t from the area so wasn’t sure if to try it but we were certainly glad we did. Highly recommend

I would highly recommend this takeaway. We were on holiday in the area. So it was difficult to choose where to go as you don't really know their reputations (Apart from TripAdvisor reviews) We were really impressed. Great, friendly service. And most importantly delicious, mouthwatering food. Clearly labelled and reasonably priced. We will certainly go here again when back in Bude 😁

Ordered and collected within 25 minutes. The food was very good and for a reasonable price. We have used Chungs every year that we visit Bude and have always been impressed. Special mention for the Fried Chips with Chilli & Salt. Overall we would highly recommend Chungs.

The food was amazing and at a great price. So tasty! We had it several times whilst we were on holiday in Bude. The prawn toast was incredible, I loved it.

Very good food. We ordered at just gone 5, and we’re able to pick up at 25 to 6, so not a long wait at all. The food was piping hot, and was all delicious.

Great take away meal - fresh ingredients, piping hot and tasty, no huge wait, would recommend crispy duck and chicken with ginger and spring onion.

Chungs has always been great, well cooked and very tasty. We can reccomend the Singapore vermacelli, Salt and chili chicken, Sweet and sour king prawn and chicken, fried rices are all good and the ribs are great as well as chow meins. We live locally and use Chungs frequently

Put a order on the phone, was very nice on phone , went to collect the food thought the place felt a bit scruffy and wished I didn’t order then. Got food home and well I never taste crap like it it’s horrible please don’t ruin your tea or a night of your life or holiday going to this place ... don’t Waite your money at this takeaway please

Came down and ordered without phoning prior, food was ready to go within 15 minutes. Very tasty food and generous portion sizes too. Sadly they don't accept card payments so make sure you have cash ready, price is average but not overpriced. Would be my recommendation for a Chinese in the Bude area.

Do not eat food from here. It is disgusting. No wonder it only has a 1 star rating with the filth it is serving. Cash only too.

The food is totally inedible. So full of salt you can’t even eat one mouth full. Don’t eat here, absolute waste of money.

Awful takeaway we were informed this was the best Chinese takeaway in Bude!Virtually NO meat in chicken or duck dish and very sweet, horrible!Save your money and get a supermarket version got to be better than this food, otherwise a long drive to another town!

Phoned to order to be told would be an hour and a half wait but if came in would be around 30mins so that’s what we did. An hour and fifteen minutes later the food was ready!! So so slow!! In terms of the food it was nice but tight portions left us all still feeling hungry!

Chop suey ( no beansprouts just frozen veg. Not much' beef' in black bean sauce. Portions smaller than most Chineses Generally uninspiring. Previous visits had been good. The quest for good Chinese in this area continues!

Ok except for frozen mixed veg in our satay chicken which we thought was a bit random. The rest was nice. Spare ribs in BBQ sauce were really tasty. Singapore fried rice was really good too.

I love Chinese food but I am used to eating it in China or Hong Kong (where I regularly travel for work) so tend not to get it from a UK Take-Away. However whilst spending a few nights in a caravan park between Kilkhampton and Bude we went to "Chungs" in Bude for a take-away feast. It was a Saturday night at 7pm so it was busy and we had to wait 25 minutes for our order, but that was okay and at least we knew it was all freshly cooked. We ordered 1/2 a Crispy Duck, 2 Large Spring Rolls, Sweet & Sour Chicken, Singapore Fried Rice, BBQ Honey Spare Ribs, Chicken with Spring Onion & Ginger, Egg Fried Rice, Crispy Shredded Beef and Prawn Crackers (I did say we had a feast!). The food we ordered more than satisfied 4 hungry adults and it cost £56 which isn't bad for the food we had. It was all pretty good. It is surprising, and a shame, that when you are spending £56 they don't throw in a few fortune cookies, which sit in a jar on the counter selling at 10p each. Note: Payment is by CASH ONLY which caught a couple of people by surprise as I waited for my order to be prepared. Whilst I have had better Chinese food in Asia, we did enjoy our food and I would visit Chung's again if looking for a Chinese take-away near Bude.

Chungs one of a few chinese takeaways in bude, bit out of the way from the town centre but if you have a car or live in the flexbury area a great local chinese.On our latest visit we were left to look at the menu which was nice not being pressured into ordering as soon as arriving.There was a good amount of dishes to order from all of which what you would expect from a chinese takeaway, only issue being was the menu had no prices on so left us wondering how much it would cost but we proceeded to order a few dishes, we got a chinese chicken curry, a vegetable fried rice no mushrooms, dumplings, sweet and sour chicken balls and a mushroom side.The counter assistant was helpful and friendly, I had asked about the mushroom dish wondering if it was a side or just extra mushrooms she proceeded to tell me It was cooked with onions and carrots and that it was more of a side dish then an extra portion.So the meal came to slightly over 20 pound pretty good value for money.Getting the food home it was still pretty warm and all tasted good, wasnt greasy like other Chinese meals I've had and did taste freshly cooked, felt the chicken was slightly over cooked in the chinese curry but the chicken in the chicken balls was cooked perfectly but the balls had bit to much batter on them losing the chicken slightly, the dumplings were a little chew but had great flavour with slight hint of a fresh ginger after taste, the mushroom side dish was great nice sweet taste but had a lack of onions and carrots was looking for a bit more crisp from them to balance out the soft mushrooms but flavours were very good.All and all very good meal, good value for money and good service received but very standard chinese takeaway dishes and bit confusing when it came to ordering of the menu to how much we will end up spending

We haven’t lived in the area long and decided to try this place as it was fairly nearby. Ordered on the phone, went to collect and was informed it’s cash only...ok fair play but it would have been beneficial to know this before arriving rather than be looked at on arrival like we are from another planet (which we are, London :)) and then having to go and find a cash point.On opening the food back at home I was pretty shocked to find everything populated with what looked like packet frozen veg!! You know the stuff with little chunks of carrot, green bean, peas and sweet corn. This stuff was in everything. Sweet corn in chow mien! In curry? I also had hot and sour prawns. I was expecting Chinese vegetables, mushroom, Chinese leaves etc but instead it was bulked out with pure Birdseye! Grim on all levels. I wholeheartedly resent paying 40 quid for something that has come out of a supermarket freezer. On the upside the sliced Chinese roast port was really nice even tho the sauce was like water but it will be the last time I pay 40 quid for 5 slices of pork.Urgh and urgh!

We wanted a Chinese takeaway whilst in Bude on holiday and after several recommendations we decided on Chungs. We ordered several rice dishes which were pleasant and also chicken satay and Lemon chicken as main dishes. I picked up as they do not deliver and the food was plenty hot when I got back to the caravan site. The lemon chicken was rather soggy and served on a bed of pineapple which was the first strange thing. When we opened the Satay chicken along with the normal Chinese vegetables was diced carrot sweet corn and peas which tasted a little odd with the spicy sauce. It wasn’t unpleasant but probably would try somewhere else on our next visit

Best Chinese in the area, never had a bad meal. Keep up the good work. The crispy chilli beef and the Singapore fried rice is a great combo, good portion sizes, great value for money.

Was staying in the local area and looked for a close by Chinese take away had my usual and remember commenting how it’s not bad and would be a place we would choose all the time if it was closer to where we live, the food was dry not overly oily like some the fried items were crispy, the only negative was the menu was a bit small and lacked some of the more specialty items you find, also tracking down an online menu was difficult a simple website would aid the type of custom a holiday area would attract

We ordered from here after looking at the reviews and deciding as it is tucked away it must be good to survive...how wrong were we! We ordered; - Pancake roll. This was okay but nothing special.- dumplings. They tasted like they had been reheated and had no real flavour to them, the pastry was quite soggy and chewy. - crispy squid. This was over cooked and far too chewy. - Egg fried rice. It was fine no real comment. - special chow mein. This had two small prawns, the pork on top was all very uniform and appeared processed. Overall it was just okay. - Satay chicken. This was absolutely nothing like any satay chicken I have ever had before. This was awful! It didn’t taste at all like satay or look like it. It had bamboo shoots and mixed frozen veg in it and the ‘sauce’ was tasteless. We were really looking forward to this on the last night of our break away but we were left massively disappointed with most of it going in the bin! We both said we would have preferred to have gone hungry!!! £26 wasted will not be visiting in the future or recommending.

Pre-ordered by telephone, service was great. All dishes were good, especially lemon chicken. Would recommend -although currently closed Tuesday

Ordering on the phone was clear and easy, the food was ready for collection promptly and it was of very good quality.

Really good menu with huge variety, all at a good price. 16 of us phoned ahead and we were told that it would be ready to pick up in 15 minutes, and it was!! Excellent food. Recommended.

We stayed in Bude for a few nights holiday and wanted a Chinese and elected for Chung’s and we were not disappointed. It’s a good job I don’t live in Bude else I would be in there every day! Food was tasty and hot. Absolutely no complaints. Staff were very friendly as well. They do only accept cash though so make sure you take some!

Been meaning to try the legendary Chungs for a couple of years - wasnt disappointed. Authentic chinese food, good size portions and good value

After waiting 15 mins more than quoted initially, chicken was processed, no flavours in the sauce and the portions are small,if yoy want to enjoy a chinese, go somewhere else.

As I was on hols in the area we thought of having a Chinese meal on a Friday! We drove passed earlier in the week. First there was a young lady couldnt even break a smile. She's front of house and good impression would a greet with a smile, even though you don't want to be there.

As a resident of Bude we use this Chinese regularly and always enjoyed it. Tonight however, the food was dreadful, overcooked rubbery chicken, everything VERY greasy , stodgy rice. Wasn't even busy in there tonight, but seems like the chef really couldn't care about producing quality food. Even worse though was the shocking customer service from the girl behind the counter. When I complained about the food her response was "I;m sure we are not going to lose any customers...." and promptly put the phone down on me.

After going around different restaurants in Bude we ended up at Chungs.The food was amazing,delicious noodles and lovely sweet and sour king prawns.

We usually head for Cheungs on our first day of arriving in Cornwall and have the house special chow mein, not overloaded with gravy but just enough,most delicious/

Ordered a takeaway on Sunday evening, quick service and great food, spicy chicken with cashew nuts and chicken curry were stand out dishes. Definitely visit again. Don’t accept cards so have cash ready.

Portions a little on the small side but great quality , will get takeaway from here again , better than cooking in a caravan

Ordered a take out, spent £30+ and the food was very good although having spent that much I would have expected something thrown in for free, most places would chuck in some prawn crackers etc. That aside, all dishes were tasty, no complaints with the quality of the food.

This is by far the best Chinese I have had their house special chow Mein is so tasty the barbecue ribs fall off the bone and the special fried rice is to die for also the portions are huge. Be prepared to have a bit of a wait though as they are literally run off they're feet from the time they open till they close it's best to call as soon as they open and book a time slot for when you want to pick it up. I wish they would open a restaurant I'd eat there every night. Enjoy

We were towards the end of a great family week, staying in Maremchurch just outside Bude, and really fancied a Chinese takeaway. Just like you we looked for reviews, and decided on this one.

We've tried all of the Chinese take aways in Bude and this is by far the best. Freshly cooked, full of taste and friendly staff. Will definitely be returning.

Really quick! Pancake rolls are HUGE! Chicken lovely and juicy. Generous sized portions. Would go back.

Chungs is famous to the people of Bude, and the food lives up to its reputation. If you like Chinese food this is the place to go for it you won't be disappointed. Downside is that it's so popular you need to order early . Upside is the food is very good and reasonably priced.

I've been coming here for several years, and the food has always been top notch. I've tasted various dishes from Chinese takeaways in both Scotland, and the United States, and yet Chungs still remains my favourite so far.The staff working there late at night are always cheerful and friendly, despite me typically ordering right before closing time. (sorry!)If it wasn't for the fact I'm trying to diet, I'd be here every single week.

After reading a few review's gave Chung's a call and wasn't disappointed chow mien superb, chicken balls quality, the sweet and sour sauce was spot on and the pawn toast was top notch , 10 min drive from Widemouth was ready to collect straight away its just a shame I live 300 miles away or this would be my new local Chinese takeaway.

Chinese is my favourite take away so I know when I get a good or bad one! Chung Chinese was amazing, not greasy and very good portion sizes for the price you pay, definitely make sure your hungry! I live in Dorset and there is only one Chinese take away that I like where I live and I found Chung Chinese was definitely on par!

It was the first Chinese I have had since I moved from Essex in April, and I was not disappointed.The Lamb in ginger and spring onion was superb would highly recommend

The Chinese member of staff seemed put out that I had ordered food, he was rude and had no manners. It was my Birthday and all I wanted was some nice sweet & sour chicken balls and chips and a large BBQ sauce. I asked for a small box and was told NO. (I left with a box in the end) (stability when driving with take away alone) THE STUFF, Chicken? balls were cooked in old and burnt oil which not only reeked, the bitter vile taste was not taken away by the bland, watery sweet & sour sauce, Not even the BBQ sauce could mask the rankness! I had a very little nibble out of every ball and it just made my stomach bad. Even the chips were like wet cardboard filled with rank oil and taste like gone off hops! (I should imagine) This was truly the worst attempt of food I have ever tried. I strongly suggest you go somewhere that serves food. The BBQ sauce was bitter and funny tasting and everything went in the bin. I'll call it a £7 learning curve. NEVER AGAIN!!!!!

I've tried a couple of Chinese restaurants in Bude but this takeaway is better. Good chips and pawn crackers. Good spicy curries and a good selection of rib dishes.

Nowhere near as good as it has been in past visits whilst in Bude on holiday over the years.. Virtually non existent sauce in the sweet and sour chicken. Much too salty prawn curry, and crispy beef, you could break your teeth on. Only decent bit was fried rice. Off to try the other Chinese in Bude tonight. And we had to wait 45 minutes for it. So nope, unless you up your game guys, you are gonna be losing quite a bit of custom, but hey we're only tourists so that doesn't matter does it!!??

We were on holiday and noticed it was busy everytime we drove past so pressumed it must be really good.Satay chicken was average and my vegetable fried rice was terrible, looked like a frozen mix of peas, diced carrot and sweetcorn had been boiled and burnt (black in places) and mixed with a couple of pieces of onion & mushroom.

Whilst staying in Bude we got a takeaway from chungs. As a family we have tried lots of different Chinese takeaways and I have to say this is one of the best we have had. All of the dishes were tasty, the meat was good quality and the food tasted fresh and not greasy. The food was completely polished off and we all enjoyed it that much that we went back on another night of our 1 week stay. Would definitely recommend it.

Got a takeaway from here while on holiday. Have to say that this was the best Chinese we've eaten in a very long time. Service excellent, food even better.

Food was tasty - ordered on a busy Saturday evening so took a while to be ready - a very popular place it seems.They don't deliver and don't accept card so you need to pay by cash.The lady who served us was very friendly. Sweet and sour chicken was good and the satay chicken was delicious!

Visited this establishment recently while staying in a local holiday park.Although they don't deliver, trust me when I say going to pick up the order is well worth it!Ordered for myself and 3 adults and everyone loved their meal. I ordered Kung Po Beef, as I tend not to order chicken from a Chinese I've never ordered from before as so many places seem keen on using that cheap, square pre-processed "chicken" in their dishes. But my partner got the chicken balls and they were absolutely delicious. My beef was tender, melt-in-your-mouth and piping hot. Lots of veggies in it, which I have never had in my Kung Po from anywhere else, but I preferred it to my normal dish. So much so I actually can't stop thinking about how tasty it was!!! Will definitely be visiting this place again when we revisit the park :)

Staying at wooda camping and had a look on Google for a local Chinese. We choose chungs and chungs was a very good decision we made! The food was nice and the lady that served us seemed very friendly and polite. Chicken chow Mein was so nice we may be going back tonight for more!!! Highly recommend A++++

Had a meal from here when on holiday after checking on trip advisor we decided to give it a go rang the order through and wasn't disappointed, service was brilliant and the food was outstanding and could easily say and recommend the prawn toast was one or if not the best I've ever tasted as was the rest of the food highly recommended

Holidaying in bude and wanted a Chinese. Was not disappointed. Prawn toast extra thick and scrummy. If your looking for a Chinese takeaway chungs is the one to go to food lovely and hot.

Have used Chungs for years and always had excellent food and service but on this occasion both were dreadful The Chicken Curry seems to taste different so tried a second time with the same result so thought I mention to the staff member and was told because I had mention to much salt in my last order they reduced it in this order which somehow makes the curry sauce weak and very thin in texture anyway a got home and it tasted revolting so throw away called in to Chungs to tell them what happened and just got a shucking of shoulders from the lady behind the counter Time for a change of takeaway I think of that's the serviceI receive as a long standing customer

Our family stayed in Bude area August 2015 and before leaving home we looked at trip advisor for good eating places. We saw Chungs received good reviews so one evening treated ourselves to a takeaway. When we arrived at Chungs we were surprised how many people were waiting, still coming in, and how often the phone rang. We thought we might have a long wait but 15 minutes after ordering our food was ready. Their prices are very reasonable and I can only say the food was probably the best chinese takeaway food I have had.

Great chinese! Food was lovely. Great portions. We had a 15 minute drive home and it was still piping hot when we ate it. Best spare ribs we have had in years!!

Fantastic tasty food at a reasonable price! We ate there twice during our holiday stay. The food was so tasty, we tried different dishes on both occasions (four of us including a fussy eater) and was never disappointed on either occasion or with any of the dishes.

In a word "fabulous". We have come back to this little Chinese takeaway again after having a spectacular meal last year, it may only be a small shop but by god the food that comes out is fabulous, don't miss if your on holiday in Bude, you won't be disappointed.

Went after seeing reviews... Definitely worth a visit. Good quality, reasonably priced takeaway food as good as any I've had before. I'm vegetarian & though the choice was limited, the dishes were lovely. My carnivorous family loved everything!

The appearance of the takeaway does not reflect on the quality of the food they produce. We have been coming to Chungs for many years when visiting Bude and the food is really tasty and prepared to a very good standard. Although the establishment looks tired, this is no reflection on the food and clearly as it is always very busy this would confirm that the food is very good for a takeaway. We haven't found anything better in Bude and would recommend a visit.

Both my partner and I have lived in London and have had many a Chinese takeaway. But so far, in the west country, most of the Chinese takeaways that we've had haven't seemed to know what a Chinese takeaway was - until this one. The food tastes right - a chow mein tastes like a chow mein. We travel 20 miles there and 20 miles back to get a takeaway that tastes like a Chinese should. The chips aren't all that fantastic, but who goes to a Chinese just for chips!? On occasion, the person taking our order has been a bit like a rabbit in headlights, and we've had to repeat what we wanted several times but genuinely, the food alone is worth it.

Collected my takeaway tonight, the food was very nice, the chicken was tender and cooked perfectly. The big let down was the service. I entered the restaurant, to be ignored by a young man who was playing on his phone. Whilst in the middle of serving me, he stopped to tend his hay on farmville! Was extremely unprofessional poor service, and will make me think twice about visiting Chungs again.

Just collected our takeaway and got back to our holiday Park 15 minutes away only to find that one of our meals was missing! I phoned straight away only to be told that it must have been a misunderstanding (in other words my fault) because they hadn't written down the mixed vegetables and therefore we hadn't been charged for it. But joy of joy they could cook it for us now if I made another 30 minute round trip to collect it!! Not the slightest whiff of any apology that they might have made a mistake. Can't quite understand how when you ask for a mixed vegetable chow mein, they forget the mixed vegetables! And unlike most takeaways they did not recap the order when I collected which would probably have avoided the 'misunderstanding' in the first place! So might be an idea to double check your order when you collect, especially if you have a long journey. Shame about the service because the food was quite nice.

Although being a little worried that there was going to be a problem that food would be missing from our order,we decided to give it a try any way as Friday nights at home are really busy and you wait ages for a delivery so we took a walk, on arriving the lady took our order and gave me an order number and we took a seat, the shop started to fill up with customers, we waited bout 15 minutes for our food, when we got back to our holiday accommodation we dished up and oh my god the food was divine no issues with missing food none with the temperature with the food even after a 8 minute walk to get it back it was still hot, I would recommend this little treasure takeaway to everyone.

After reading the reviews for Chungs we were a little wary of the "missing meal" scenario as mentioned in other reviews. Anyway after arriving in Bude for our holiday we found ourselves in Chungs and we were not dissappointed whatsoever....the telephone constantly rang (a sign of it's popularity) and the door regularly opened to admit customer after customer (another good sign) the meals themselves were delicious and we cannot wait for another excuse to pay chungs another visit. FANTASTIC FOOD!!!

First of all, the quality of the food and the price is pretty good. The food is fresh and tastes great, plus we didn't have to wait too long, about 15 minutes in the middle of July, which we all thought was pretty good. We did however, have one dish short and after reading a few of these reviews it seems to be a little trick of theirs! We didn't bother to call as we were all really hungry and just got by. I guess the best way to get over this is to check your order before you leave the shop. At least then, they can't argue with you. Good food though. :-)

great food fresh and tasty , may have to wait in peak times but worth the wait.chillie chips are worth the trip alone

we travel devon and cornwall extensivly , we have found it to be the best for a whole area from plymouth to bude and surrounding arealovely owners and staff

Ordered take away on a Saturday night whilst visiting bude and sent a taxi to collect it (recommended by chungs themselves). We received the order with one dish missing explaining that we were ok holiday and all they could offer was a credit note! I explained AGAIN that we were on holiday and going tomorrow but I was speaking to the rudest girl and she had such an attitude on her and told us they were too busy and that's why our order was incorrect! My friend rang back 5 minutes later and the same girl told us that she was glad we were on holiday so that they didnt have our custom again and then hung up! Food was poor quality too. I don't recommend anyone orders from here.

I never write critical reviews, but this has to be the worst experience in Bude. Moral: Check your order - they won't accept that they're wrong.Just ordered 4 dishes and arrived home to find only 3.Phoned and they checked with their kitchen who claimed to have packed 4. No apology, no refund, just told I shouldn't be complaining and, as the kitchen staff pay her wages, they must be right.Decent ribs, standard fried rice, ordinary chicken with cashews, NO beef with ginger and spring onion.
