Opted for the Sweet and Sour Special…,,, Absolutely disgusting and inedible. Sweet and Sour dishes are usually a vivid red/orange colour… this was far from . Just a pile of congealed brown mess 🤢 Shame on Chung Ku for serving up such an awful meal. The Salt and Pepper Ribs were equally as disgusting.

Always lovely food and they’ve just got a 5/5 hygiene award which is always reassuring. I have noticed the prawn toast is suddenly another 5/5!

Bought a meal of seeet sour prawns and sweet sour chicken. Prawns like shrimps. Very poor quality.

I don’t know what has happened, maybe new owners, Bought 2 meals on Sat 9th March, King prawn sweet &sour , the sauce was just like vinegar and prawns asked for King Prawns but they not at all a king size prawn, small. Black bean sauce it was just like a beef in gravy, Very disappointing we have used this take away for over 20years, but will not use it again

I have eaten at so many Chinese takeaways over many years and this has to be by far the best ever. All dishes have been delicious and never failed our expectations. Highly recommend this place

Best Crispy Shredded Chilli beef around!

Hard dried out chips, and no meat in the special fried rice. Is it a real shop? if you know what I mean.

Very disappointed to say the least. Crucial item missing from order and no way of rectifying it bar having to travel back to venue or collect with next meal which could be years.

Order meal advised no mushroom as allergic to them, when got meal it was full of them . Rang and ask to speak to manager and the young lad said he was too busy cooking food in the back and won't come to the phone I advised I was allergic to mushrooms and made a point of it and the lad confirmed the ticket said no mushroom This place is an accident waiting to happen as the manager could give a monkey except getting his money

I ordered the roast duck Chinese style, the meat was nothing like duck , it was more like Char Sui pork very dissatisfied

Food quality was amazing, especially the chicken satay which is the best satay I have ever tasted. Would definitely Recommend.

Ordered a banquet 24/5 which included chicken satay. Unfortunately this tasted of vomit, I even took it back for the manager to taste it, only to be told there was nothing wrong with it. If this had been a restaurant I would not have paid. How sad there is no such thing as customer relations here, even sadder is thinking that vomit tasting food is acceptable to sell

Food tastes great but awful time estimates ruined our saturday night meal. Told it would take 20-25 minutes and much closer to 50 minutes after I'd picked up an Indian and some chips which were ice cold. I asked for the manager who came out and instead of being apologetic instead had the nerve to explain it was busy (as would be expected on a saturday) and didnt seem to understand the issue about was the estimate we were given rather than the time taken to prepare the meal.

Had a gluten free mean from here, it was decent enough, not great but quite expensive overall. No prawn crackers despite spending well over £20!

I have used this Chinese takeaway for a number of years... however never again. I ordered the salt and pepper ribs and the sweet and sour special with fried rice. The ribs were burnt to a crisp... and I can’t even begin to describe the main meal 🤮 Sweet and sour dishes are always a vivid red/ orange colour with lots of fresh veg mixed in. This was just a congealed’brown’ mush.... couldn’t identify what was actually in it. It made me feel sick just looking at it. 🤮 Too late to take it back, so obviously got served the dregs at the end of the evening. Not acceptable 🤬 Shame on you Chung Ku. Absolutely disgusting. I am compiling a report to the food hygiene regulators.... hopefully they will take this on board and close you down.

Been here twice in two weeks after non visiting for more than 10 years. Staff are excellent, service is speedy and the food is outstanding. I’d just completed justeat within a 5 miles radius for Chinese and decided nothing was worth my money. Thank you Chung ku for being a genuinely grade a Chinese take away - ps the hot and sour soup is a must

Great range of gluten free food, will absolutely be back!

The food from Chung Ku always has been, and still is, consistently the best. Whatever your dietary requirements, the chefs are always happy to advise and accomodate, whenever possible. The staff are really polite, helpful and professional too. I'd definitely recommend this take away, although that term does it's fantastic food a disservice, to anyone.

Tried this place as i was in the area first impressions were it looks ok i, I went in and placed my order which they said would be around 10 mins so i sat back in the car, Went to collect my order girl asked for my order number no politeness just like kevin off kevin and perry so she went in the back and came out with someone else’s order so i sat back down and she says again whats your order number (i just gave it you ffs) so i gave it her AGAIN she came out from the back with my order and just handed it to me no thanks, No enjoy your meal nothing , The meal was terrible i ordered fried ribs in blackbean sauce they were knuckles of grease on a bone not like the long ribs you get at any other chinese takeaway i threw them in the bin and will not be returning to this poor takeaway

I ordered Spare rib in Chilli bean sauce. What I got was small grizzle covered knuckles bits of bone covered in grizzle. It was disgusting food. I have ordered all of the other type of Spare ribs & they all come as a standard type meat on a rib bone. Gutted will never return as if this was meant to be a different Spare tin from the standard spare ribs it need to identified in the menu. Disgusting meal collected & this place is to be avoided at all cost. Threw the food away

Got to the Chung Ku at 9.35pm to find the door locked but staff at the counter. Website and door state closes at 10pm. Very disappointed!

Special,was right. Never tried this before but I'm hooked! Opted for chips with my meal. The only down side ... the chips were far too good to be covered in curry sauce. Try finding better chips anywhere. There's a challenge! Served by a very friendly guy called Ricky. Will definitely call again.

Had a big family get together this evening and ordered lots of different things. Every single thing was well cooked and tasted amazing. Best take away for miles!

Manager needs to learn some manners!!! The service is appalling i’m not going to go into detail as many reviews have already covered them. This business will eventually be closed down - the sooner the better before it seriously affects somebody or at worst their ignorance resulting in a fatality!!

Ordered a takeway and made it EXTREMLY clear that my partner was allergic to certain foods which was completely ignored! The owners attitude in a nutshell was TOUGH and was only able to deal with the situation by telling my wife to F*** Off! great vocabulary. Unfortunately he has started a fight with the wrong family as my wife is a solicitor and wont let this drop. We have already contact the Food Standards Agency, and will be contacting the Food hygiene, environmental health and the local council. And also highlighting this as per the Consumer Protection Act. Just be very careful - this takeway should be shut down before it kills somebody!

Went here when my local Chinese takeaway was closed, and I must say it was very good quality. Happy with the prices, portion sizes and waiting time.

Just had a meal from Chung Ku at Rainhill asked for Beef Ginger and spring onion GF no MSG. They have done this in the past so well. When we got home meal was wrong, got chilli beef strips instead. We live 15 mins away, thought the beef was just poor quality. When phoned to ask about the quality of the beef we were told that we had asked for that meal, chilli beef and manager refused a refund and was rude. Anyone can make a mistake but to be treated so rudely is totally unacceptable and we won't be going back again.

Worst takeaway I’ve ever had, 2 curry’s asked for no mushroom but I got mushroom with, we asked for the 2 mild curry’s but we got 2 spicy curry’s one of them was extremely salty and I couldn’t eat it because it was that revolting neither could my daughter. This explains why it’s always empty. WOULD NOT EAT THERE AGAIN!!! £19 for something horrible.

Also had a “ free spring rolls “ card - told needed to inform at time of order ( not happened previously) Just confirms that “ the customer is always wrong” philosophy Had enough Won’t go again or recommend

Awful. Satay sauce just like gravey. Fried rice just ordinary soggy rice could not eat.

Great food, really fresh and good value

Ordered a takeaway and it wasn't too long to wait even though they were clearly busy. Staff friendly and good amount of space between people so felt safe. Got back home and the food was still lovely and warm. It also tasted great. Really lovely meals and thoroughly enjoyed them. The only reason for not giving 5 was that I had mushrooms in my hot and sour soup which I've not had before. All the places I get it from it's got no mushrooms in it which is good as I really don't like them. Usually I can't eat anything that's had them in as I can taste it but this soup was different. Still tasted yummy and mushrooms big enough to pick out. We will definitely be going again and at least next time I know to order it without mushrooms.

Chung Ku has some of the best recipes and the food quality is very high. Also has 5 star hygiene rating

One of the best Chinese takeaways in the area. Little pricier than some, but the quality justifies it in my opinion. Staff are friendly, service is fast, and the only downside is the lack of delivery. Definitely recommended.

Tried this place tonight, easy to order on phone, ready in 15 minutes, big portions, good value and great flavours, we had: Special chow mein, singapore chicken fried rice, sichuan ribs, crispy duck with pancakes, will be coming again

Delicious food! This was our first Chinese takeaway since lockdown and staff were wearing masks and screens were installed. Would highly recommend if you want a great takeaway where safety measures are in place.

Tried this place last night for the first time. Placing an order was made very easy by the fantastic female staff member that took my order. I wanted to collect and was told that the food would be ready in only 10 minutes. Turned up and sure enough the food was being packaged bang on time. Got it home and already the smell had my mouth watering. Excellent food. Excellent service. Will be eating from here again. Highly recommend.

I got a takeaway with my husband on 22/11/19. I was eating my meal when I started choking on a piece of wire. I live in rainhill & usually go Jung wah but as by Chung Ku thought would try. NEVER AGAIN. I tried to ring them at 10.15 for half an hour & just ringing out. I suppose not answering as not long till closed. I will be contacting them as soon as possible I'm lucky I didn't give to my children.

The salt and pepper ribs we got were batter over fatty bits and not much meat. The curry sauce is very sweet. Singapore fried rice quite good.

This place often has nice food but when things go wrong, don’t expect any joy from management. Ordered a meal that I’ve had multiple times from this takeaway, never come in a sauce before however this time was in a sauce and full of things that had never been in there before. Rang up to ask about it knowing I had the wrong meal and was told it had always been like that, despite me knowing that I’d never had it look like that before, asked if there had been a recipe change to which I was told it had always been like that. Instead of offering to do it dry which would’ve resolved the situation I was told that I had to ask when I came in next time...funnily enough there won’t be a next time thanks to the management’s shocking handling of this matter. Although the girl on the phone seemed nice enough, it was all being handled by her manager that has no customer service skills whatsoever and clearly can’t handle a customer complaint. Normally lovely food but after this treatment I won’t be visiting again, there’s more than one good Chinese in this area

Visited this restaurant for a take away meal for my family. Telephoning order straightforward, staff pleasant and knowledgeable of dishes and prices. Quick turn around for order. Good food at value prices.

If I fancy a Chinese takeaway this is the place I go not just because it’s local but because it’s the best Chinese around the local area the food is always spot on and service is fast. I usually order over the telephone and collect within 15 mins which I’d recommend rather than waiting around but there is a seating area to wait if not and lots of parking right near if coming a little further away.

This is one of our local restaurants and is our favourite of them all. Return here very often and the food is always great with no complaints.

The food here is good however the manager really does not value his customers and has a very bad attitude when things go wrong...For 2 weeks mistakes have been made with our order, the first week we couldn't be bothered with the 20 minute drive back, the second week we decided to go back to let them sort it.As our food had now gone cold from the 20 minute return journey I requested some warm rice, this was blatantly refused by the manager in very bad manner, citing that we would have to return the rice (at home) for a replacement. Having explained that would entail another 20 minute return journey to fetch the rice off the plates, his response was "thats how refunds work"...A petty attitude to take for something of such low value, when asked would rather lose a regular customer over some rice his response was "Yes". Really unfortunate that the establishment has been let down by this guy.We'll be taking our custom elsewhere in the future.

They make the best chicken satay west of the far east. Local parking in village good service by staff.

I’ve not lived in the area for 8 years now, and have still not managed to find anywhere which serves Chinese food as good as the Chung Ku!

Terrible food !! Salt pepper king prawn was done in thick soggy batter !! Same with spicy fillet steak(beef) done in batter, I've never had anything like it...awful. Ribs awful and sweet sour chicken was just plain chicken (not crispy) the only thing nice was prawn crackers !! Almost everything we ordered was put in bin!! The chef needs to move with the times and stop using batter on his salt pepper dishes!!

Best Chinese take away in the area. Fast service, good food, reasonable prices. Have ordered most things from the menu now. You can't go wrong.

We usually visit Chung Ku every few weeks or so with no complaints, however I feel the need to write this review following my most recent visit.

I have never ordered food from Chung Ku until last night as a number of friends had told me how nice the food was! They was not wrong, beautiful food, huge portions and a speedy delivery service- would definitely order again!

Nice food and friendly staff lovely chicken wings

Three times this establishment has forgotten to put certain items of food into our pick up order. This has resulted in our food experience being overshadowed by the fact we have to return to pick up the missing food. Once you maybe can forgive but 3 times-no way. First crispy duck had no pancakes, then twice no noodles on a special chow mein (certainly special lacking in the main ingredient). There is no proper acknowledgement of their error or any compensation for the journey back and forth!! We will not be eating here again.

I have used this place quite often and can say without doubt it is up there with the best. cannot put my finger on why I dont award 5 stars but i have never been let down. The food is tasty and the service is fast.

Always a good choice! Ricky and his staff are so welcoming and accommodating, the food is great quality, always fresh and plentiful.

Staying in the area for the night so decided to give it a try. Could not believe how expensive. Ordered prawn toast as a stater £5. This was just for person so portion far too much. Not particularly good either. Then a prawn main with noodles was £7.50. Again was just average. Definitely won't be rushing back. Could have sat down and eaten at the Vic over the road for that price!

Great place, modern an clean waiting area, nice attractive and helpful service with a smile, food was spon on, will defo go again if I'm in the area and worth the diversion if I'm near by.

We do love the food here, it's always top notch and the fried rice is really tasty. Not forgetting how good the Chow Mein is.

We ordered take out for a friends birthday. Reasonable waiting time, good menu choice & polite staff...food is always piping hot/enjoyable--good portion sizes too. Place itself appears very clean & well presented & always busy.

Living in the village i am aware that there is a number of Take away outlets. Recently i tried this take away and have discovered that it is possibly just a cut above some of the others. My curries have been cooked and presented to a reasonably high standard. The addition of mushrooms to the curry added to the taste. The beef was very tender and required no chewing. The fried rice was done to perfection, i.e not greasy.On the meals i have had from this Take Away i would certainly recommend it. I will certainly return.

Went to Chung ku Saturday tea time got two hot n sour soups never seen a soup carton so small.also got a portion of salt n pepper ribs we got 5 ribs followed by beef curry with fried rice the curry and rice were half the size we get at are local Chinese takeaway and it was very bland. We won't be going back

Only had a simple meal but was a little disappointed to be honest, chips were ok at best, salt and pepper chips with carrot? Curry sauce a bit watery. Just OK overall hence 3* rating

Good extensive menu, reasonably priced. Just make sure they give you correct order if you've telephoned it in for collection; Chicken curry does not equal Beef curry when you get it home! Grand daughter not impressed

Have been going here for years and the food is fantastic. Would not go any were else for Chinese food. All staff are great and nothing is to much for them. Love this take away.

Would rate 5/5 but there's been a few occasions the staff taking orders have been sat there eating meals infront of the customers which I think is unprofessional, regardless of that the food here is lovley, been going here for over 4 years now and has always been clean, consistent, lovley food.

I have used the Chung Ku as my Chinese take away of choice for at least 15+ years and other takeaways have never been able to compare however recently the quality of food has started to deteriorate in particular the chicken used in the meals. The chicken appears tough and chewy when this fort happened I was shocked but considered it a one off. As I'm such a loyal customer I have tried to bear with it and try different meals to see if that was the problem but after having a takeaway on Wednesday that didn't seem right and then being violently sick for the last few days I have decided to give up and go elsewhere. I do say this with a very heavy heart but I have been completely put off. I've never mentioned this in the takeaway as I have seen the owner shouting at people very loudly when they have complained and I don't want to be humiliated like the other customers.

I visited here last week for the first time and have to say I'm very impressed. Service was prompt and the staff polite. I would definitely recommend.

First visit to The Chung Ku for a few years. Meal was really good.still nice and hot when I got home. Staff very friendly. Will go back soon

After phoning an order through and walking down to pick it up we got home to notice we had one wrong meal. The chips also seemed like reheated ones, not fresh like normal and the duck veg (cucumber / onions) were sloppy and not crunchy like they normally are. Overall a poor visit.

Been several times, always good unlike some others nearby. Great chicken chow mien , ribs and chicken cashew nut. Never had a bad one.
