Chulo in Plymouth

Chulo has closed and the premises are being given another makeover. The Signwriter’s have put up the new name ‘Quince’ but there has not yet been any news of what type of restaurant this will be.

We booked a week in advance in for an evening meal and received a booking confirmation via email. When we arrived, we were amazed to see the restaurant was closed. We had received no communication to tell us they couldn't accommodate us that evening. Very disappointing.

We have just returned from a brilliant meal at Chulo. We have been meaning to go for several months and it surpassed expectations. The Baharian Beef Chunk was delicious. Couldn't fault it. The quesadillas were enormous! We saw some customers boxing theirs up to take home due to the size. Great quality ingredients and tasty cocktails too. We will return! My fiancé could have taken more heat in his meal but that's just a personal preference. Friendly staff. Highly recommended!

Lovely food and big portions, we shared a small nachos between two as a starter followed by a burrito each which was delicious but we couldn’t finish it all! Lovely cocktails too.

Went there for the first time in a small party for my eldest son's birthday - chosen by my youngest son not me. Loved the decor and the general ambience of the place, The service and food was excellent throughout. Couldn't fault a thing.

Amazing food, great staff and very tasty cocktails, what more could you want! Give it a go, you won’t be disappointed. Visited for lunchtime meal and cocktails, we had told them it was for a birthday and they put balloons up for us which was super sweet and we're happy for us bring our own cake. It's a really lovely place, nice decor, good music, friendly atmosphere and staff. We started with some cocktails which were so delicious and refreshing, we were kindly waited on by the lovely Barbara, nothing was too much trouble (and we were there for hours). The cocktails are £8.50 but with the lunch being so cheap, we didn't mind, they were all made with top quality stuff as they were amazing! We then all had 2 course, for £9.99! That's it £9.99! We all had our taste buds blown, honestly some of the best Latino food I've had in my life. We all had some of each others starters and I can honestly say it was some of the best calamari, ribs and jalapeño poppers I've ever tasted, the seasonings. You can taste the love and effort that went into the food, for me the perfect starter size too. We all fancied the chicken enchiladas as the main and they were also amazing, so rich, flavour packed as were the chips with their homemade smokey chilli sauce. My starter, the ribs (2 big ribs covered in BBQ sauce) was delicious but were clearly too big for me as I couldn't eat all my enchilada and they boxed it up for me to take home. They then brought out the cake on a lovely decorated board with whipped cream and compote. We were really blown away by the food, the kindness and the hospitality we experienced. All the staff went above and beyond and we had a truly lovely time. Lubor (hope I spelt that right) and Barbara in particular thank you so much! We don't understand why it wasn't heaving, they've been open a year and they are serving delicious affordable authentic food for £9.99 for two courses! I don't leave reviews often but this place deserves to be heaving, the staff made our lunch so special, Chulo is truly a gem, we hope to be regulars. I want to note that I haven't tried the main evening meals which are a seperate menu but I know if they are anything like the lunch, I will leave with a very happy belly... Again! I saw a negative review just before I uploaded from a few days ago, we didn't have that experience at all, we loved it and will be back soon for more!

First time visiting here on the weekend and the food was incredible! Tastes amazing and the portions are so generous. The staff are so so friendly and can’t do enough for you. We will definitely be back

This is literally, the PERFECT restaurant. I was the designated driver for my family group of 12 so this is a totally sober and honest write up. The food is just incredible; the best Mexican I have eaten and we have eaten Mexican in many places across UK and afar, and this was just fantastic. There was an abundance of flavour in every single one of our 12 starters and mains, spices and colour to tickle every palate and really great veggie options. The cocktails were well enjoyed by all the family. The food was presented so imaginatively and for once, enough accompaniment to fajitas!! We had a variety of dishes all huge and immensely tasty. Such good value. The vibe is lovely, very S American, very laid back One of the things that made it so wonderful was the staff hospitality. The staff clearly cared about their customers and went above and beyond without ever being intrusive. We had the table the entire evening and never felt we should leave as I have in other Plymouth chain restaurants. The staff were incredibly attentive and well skilled in their job, and it was such an enjoyable meal. The most wonderful 16th birthday meal enjoyed by all 12 of our party. My recommendation? GO, GO GOOOO!!!!!

Me and my girlfriend have been visiting for the past couple months and have loved it every single time! The staff are always friendly and welcoming, and the food incredible! Really good value for money and is definitely underrated! We will be visiting again soon!
