My friend and I ordered baked potatoes- I had chicken Mayo and cheese ( a tiny sprinkling was all that was in it) and my friend had prawn ! I emptied the pot of coleslaw over my potato…. Well it turned out it was off! After telling the waitress she then got me a chicken n bacon sandwich ( my friend wouldn’t eat anything else) …. I couldn’t believe it when the bread was stale!!!!!! I was too embarrassed to say anything about it - not that anyone asked!!!!! We ( wrongly) paid up and got out of there!!!!! DISAPPOINTED!!!!

I attended the deli for what I assumed was a very easy order, A iced latte. Firstly the length of time to make one coffee was excessive . Staff were all over the place and I was asked 3 times by three different staff members what cake I ordered where they were in the the same 3 meter space. The woman made the coffee in the back and yet again I was asked twice about my syrup. She hands over a cup with lukewarm “ice latte” . Firstly there was no milk it was the colour of espresso. But so watery ! They also seemed to miss out the main part , ice ? Could see particles dissolving in this drink. Quite clearly a sachet or something similar . Very poor

Having been told about another food place which was closed, we were at a loss as to where to eat, we didn't want to go to ASDA and we were told about the deli. We arrived just before the lunch rush and my aunt, nanna and I all had paninis (they had soup and panini). As a vegetarian, it is always good to have mozzarella, pesto and tomato as a panini which I love. So many places are just cheese and tomato. It was nice to have something I love and there were plenty of options for alternative milk. When we finished our dinner, the place was quite busy with people. Will go here again.

Went for breakfast and ordered avocado toast with poached eggs and tomatoes . When meal arrived I was given two very overcooked fried eggs with a few halved cherry tomatoes on side and a scraping of avocado . When I asked about poached eggs I was told by the member of staff that they couldn’t make poached eggs because they were using the pan to make soup. Very poor quality and service.

Met friends for coffee etc. It was busy. Nice scone and coffee. I believe the soup was nice. We popped onto gift shop and found it quite pricey.. some of the items were a bit samey and some of the items were more expensive than other gift shops. Used to love the garden centre but it caters more for the younger people in the large play area and disappointed in selection of plants.

On my receipt it has this establishment as "The Deli, 4 Southfield Drive, Elgin". Pleasant staff, a good layout, clean toilets and a fine ambience. Our soup of the day, with oatcake, was enjoyable at under £4 each. The thing that stuck in my memory of the place, was ordering a glass of milk, expecting for £1.80, a large glass, not a tiny one. You can buy over 2 litres of milk for less than that! Shocking! Just because of that, I won't be returning to The Deli.

My son was in doing his theory test. I popped in for a coffee and bacon roll. The bacon roll was delicious... cooked to perfection. No fat. TOp marks. This was followed by a latte and chocolate and orange scone.... then my son had a panini. The Deli had a lovely atmosphere and it was very comfortable on the leather sofas. The staff were very friendly and helpful and happy. Out assistant was Janna. It's a cafe I would highly recommend and this is now going to be somewhere I make a regular visit to. Value for money, a great selection in the menu. Be back soon.

Came here after being recommended it by a friend. Waitress really friendly, but ordered a scone and was served a shop bought one, served with a small tub of margarine!! Not even proper butter and no jam either. Cheeky when they are set out in cake domes making them look like home made ones. Grudge going out for a fly cup and paying over the odds for something I could have had at home

We used to love this place. Always a friendly welcome, great food and decent quantities. Not so now. The quantities are paltry and embarrassing. If you're going to put coleslaw on a plate with salad, a teaspoon is not enough. This place used to be great, but now it's very low quality and you don't get a welcome. Won't be returning which is sad because we've been going for years.

I often go to Christies for lunch when I am working in the area. I have been consistently impressed with their sandwiches (wraps, paninis etc) which are made to order and always very tasty. They have LOADS of filling choices. The portions are generous and the coffee is delicious. They do good soup and filled roll deals and a wide range of cakes and scones, including gluten free. I tend to takeaway but the cafe is really nice to sit in. There is free wifi and the staff are friendly and helpful.

Having visited this Deli on a few different occasions I feel it only right to write a review. On each visit we have been left to feel very unwelcome by poor service and rude staff. Christies Deli was always a busy, good quality food deli but since the new owners have taken over (it is now called ‘The Deli’) it has gone downhill massively. Went in and didn’t get greeted by the waiter, just got a point to a table where we sat and got our menus. Ordered and specified no butter but seen the waitress put butter on so went up to the counter and said that we specified no butter so she rudely acknowledged it and went to take off the filling and put it on a fresh bit of bread even though the filling was all covered in butter. Unhelpful and unfriendly staff, basic and expensive. Also, they started packing up their sandwich fillings and cleaning the fridge which is a unusual, weird thing to do for a Saturday lunch! The previous owners were always rushed off their feet but still managed to produce great food. New owners were standing doing nothing (very quiet on a Saturday lunch) and still didn’t manage to produce a decent lunch. Bring back the old owners!

My colleague and I went out for lunch on a Friday, told to take a seat and they’d be right over with a menu. 10 minutes later we had to stand up to get a menu ourselves. Another 10 minutes later the table who came in after us gets their order taken and we are left to wait further - at which point we stood up to place an order to go. When I finally got my flat white the coffee was very disappointing and more like an instant white coffee I’d have made at work than a barista made flat white! The only saving grace was the delicious salted caramel muffin. Won’t be rushing back.

Went in to get a takeaway on my way to visit family who live along the street and will definitely be back. I always thought this place looked small from the outside but I was wrong, what a lovely setting inside. I have noticed it does look busy anytime I've passed so I went in quite early and I'm glad I did as I think the lunchtime rush was just starting. Plenty selection of fillings for sandwiches, panini's, wraps, rolls, baked potatoes etc and a selection of cakes too. I got a panini which was a good size with plenty filling and tasted great and my sister got a baked potato which was a good size also with plenty cheese and tuna and a lovely side salad. She couldn't even finish it all. I couldn't help but pick up a couple cakes for us too they looked far too tempting and I'm glad I did! The chocolate brownie has got to be a favourite I know I'll be popping for more sometime soon. Glad we finally decided to try this place the prices were good, it's exactly the type of place we've been wanting to find and it's basically right on the doorstep.

I have been now a few times to this small cafe. Everytime I have gone, the food has been excellent and the quality good. But unfortunately the service is rather slow, even when the cafe is quite it can take around 10minutes for a panni to come. When it's busy it can be even longer, anything from 20 to 40minutes. However, when the food does come, it does not disappoint. There pannis are extremely tasty and they have a lovely dressing over there salads. They have lots of freshly cooked bakes, from brownies to carrot muffins. Also they are quite flexible with the menu's, showing no issues when you request one or more of the items to be removed from your dish.Overall , I would definitely recommend this place, especially if want a lunch a chat with some friends or family, but if you are looking for a quick bite, it would be better to have the take away option that they offer, as siting in would not be advised.

First impression...Staff welcome was missing...as the cafe was virtually empty would have expected a smiling face for customers at the very least. That said the service was quick.Asked specifically for a pot of tea but got a mug which was fine but an explanation as to why no pot would have been nice. The plate for the tea bag was stained and needed a bleach.Food was ok, pretty standard fare..plates rather huge for tiny portion of salad and sandwich, but tasty enough. We left feeling rather disappointed as this used to be a friendly wee place and the food of a good standard. We also left smelling strongly of frying and that is never good. Was taken there for lunch today and can honestly say I won't be back. Which is a sad thing to say as the food was quite good. Our order was taken, and eventually we were given our Hot "well luke warm" Chocolate and waited with anticipation for our bowls of soup and a panini to share. The panini came out first and we were informed that the soup was on it's way, well after at least another 5 minutes it did arrive.....COLD!!! Now bearing in mind this was lunch prime time not exactly what you would expect. So I gave it back and was told it would be sorted....by this time we had finisehd our not so hot chocolate and panini. The soup eventually arrived and was it hot....no it wasn't mildly tepid maybe but certainly not hot. All in all this took 40 minutes, when your on a lunch hour not really what you would want. I would state that it wasn't busy, maybe another half dozen in, so I dread to think what kind of service and time you would have to wait if it was busy!!!!

You'll understand the title of my review if you've ever watched the Little Britain comedy sketches. By and large the food here is nice enough ( good selection of sandwich fillings and substantial plates of soup) That's if you're lucky enough to be " allowed" to order them. We've had similar experiences twice now to that mentioned in another recent review. One day we went in at 11.45am. We were hungry as we'd been on the road since early and not stopped for breakfast. The soup option was showing on the little blackboard but, when we ordered it, the waitress said it wasn't available till after 12 . I mean, seriously , she wasn't prepared to allow us a plate if soup 15 minutes before noon and she even went away to check!! Why have it noted out front on the blackboard then ? We were pretty bemused so just ordered sandwiches and tea,On a previous occasion, we arrived just 2 or 3 minutes after 4pm to be told " cake only " despite the fact we were just looking for a sandwich and the requisite ingredients were actually right there in front of them. What a ludicrous way to do business. There's absolutely no flexibility here so I'd agree with the previous reviewer's opinion. The attitude is totally " Computer Says No" . Sorry to say , we won't be back when next in the area.

A great range of menu choices and all freshly made, I always found it hard to choose - until I discovered the pancakes with bacon and maple syrup! The serving looks enormous, it is enormous, but the pancakes are so light, the bacon so tasty and the flavour and balance of the maple syrup that clearing my plate is a pleasure. A regular fortnightly meet up with an old chum has us searching for pleasant convivial surroundings with a nice cuppa and hopefully a tasty illicit treat. We thought we would try the Deli once again. We had been two years previously and had been very disappointed, we hoped for better on this occasion.Oh dear, I arrived 10 minutes before my pal, of the 9 or so tables 4 were occupied and the other 5 were piled high with crockery from previous customers. I cleared a table of its contents onto an adjacent table and sat down. The table, now cleared of debris however revealed a surface far stickier than one meal would have produced. The menu itself was so grubby, I felt that I needed to wash my hands after looking at it. The seat cushions were also very stained and grubby. During the 15 or so minutes waiting for my friend, not one member of staff approached me, or cleared any of the tables. People sitting at adjacent tables were receiving their orders during my wait and I noted that they were being apologised to for the apparent wait for their orders. I counted at least 4 different members of staff. My chum arrived and after seeing the state of the table and the piles of used crockery on the other filthy tables in addition to the grubby menu, we agreed that we were not willing to risk contracting salmonella or e coli by eating or drinking anything there. At this point a waitress appeared to take our order (20 mins after arrival) and looked aghast as we told her that we had decided not to stay.A closer look around as we left proved our fears. The whole place looked as if it could have done with a thorough professional clean.I had visited the Deli some two years previously and had been disappointed by the standard of the premises and the quality of the food at that time, but had looked on trip advisor and seen a few positive comments. This time I will not return, irrespective of any review I may subsequently read.

One of my favourite places to eat in Elgin, have been a regular here for some time, never fails to impress. Usually go for a late breakfast or lunch, kids portions not a problem, my granddaughter loves the scrambled eggs on toast. Large selection of fillings on the lunch menu, which are different from the norm. Easy parking and friendly staff! Always busy

I go to the deli on a regular basis, often twice a week. The selection of breads and fillings is excellent and the coffee very good. The staff are friendly and welcoming.

sometimes tea comes in a normal cup then next time in a large glass mug ;not very attractive. cakes look like they have been made by someone not professional and for the price they should be better. The staff need to know that you cannot handle meat then pick up cheese or salad.this is down to lack of training .could be so much better.

This place is to be found on the south of the town in a shopping/ health centre complex - parking is easy. The waiting staff are friendly and welcoming and their food is generous, fresh and tasty. There are tables and chairs, sofas and high stools, but never enough! Having tried a few places in Elgin this is my first choice. Our elderly guest loved the butternut squash soup - a generous serving - with tasty bread. She reports that when she visits herself they know exactly what she likes and look after her well. We loved our paninis filled with fresh homemade fillings and a beautiful little side salad: so fresh and delicate with a raspberry vinaigrette. One member of staff impressed us incredibly with her maximising the turnover in a very efficient way: welcoming new customers and making them comfortable whilst advising on the next available table. All done in a quiet fashion but maximising turnover incredibly well and in a charming way. Well done!

A good place for lunch with a decent selection of breads and fillings. Good choice and the cakes are scrumptious too. No wonder its so busy.

Just love this place - As someone who is severely gluten intolerant, the fact that they don't bat an eyelid when you request gluten free bread and you can have your pick of all the cakes on the menu, because -happy days- they are ALL gluten free! Deep joy !Great coffee too! Thank you Christies!

excellent food, but desparatley lacking in service, appear extremely short staffed with staff looking stressed out at trying to multitask. Needs organisation and a good cleaning rota as tables not wiped after customers leave and new customers seated. When we did eventually get served the food was absolutley fab, delicious and fresh, the salad dressing was excellent and salad was not just a side but a delicious addage to the meal........do go regularly so look forward to see the improvement of customer service assistants.

Ok, we have been here now a few times and can't complain. The first time we had breakfast-a full Scottish breakfast and Scottish salmon with poached eggs lovely. We went today we the same intention to have breakfast however just missed last orders which is 1130hrs. As a result we tried the jacket potatoes and agree with everyone else the choice of fillings is excellent probably the best I have come across. We ended up treating ourselves to a cake one word-tasty!!

We often go here for lunch as it has every type of filling for a sandwich you could imagine!! It is usually very busy and has a buzz about it. The sandwiches are delicious and there is something for everyone (if you cant find something at this place you like then you shouldn't bother eating out!!)

We've stopped at Christies many times over the past couple of years, usually for a quick bite of lunch. It's located in a small shopping area on the outskirts of Elgin, so you need to know it's there! (Or be recommended by colleagues as we were.). It's only open in daytime.Their main thing is lots (dozens and dozens) of different fillings which you can have in ciabattas, toasties, sandwiches or whatever. It's all freshly prepared and well presented with side salad. They also have a decent range of soft drinks (like Firefly) as well as the usual teas, coffees and so on.Service is friendly and efficient though, as I said, it's all freshly prepared so can take a few minutes - they also do a takeaway service and, if you know what you want, you can phone an order in advance. We'll definitely be back, and would recommed Christies to anyone looking for a bite in Elgin.

I paid a second visit to this friendly out of the way Elgin diner. My companion and I had a brief wait for a table, but weren't in a hurry so were happy to sit at the bar stools at the window and read the papers until one became ready. We both ordered Salads with prawn and avocado. Christies salads are beautifully presented as you'll see from the photo. Service overall was friendly, however we did have a bit of wait before we were given the opportunity to order our tea, Americano coffee and carrot cake. The standard of the coffee was as before first class with a beautiful crema. All Christies bakes are made from Dove's Gluten Free flour. Their carrot cake was beautifully light and a real treat. My companion and I were well satisfied with our lunch and will make a further visit soon.

First visited Christies Deli when I moved to the area back in June. Have now been 4 times and having enjoyed each occassion thought I would write a review. Value for money is excellant with a varied selection of different fillings (upwards of 50) that you can have with either a sandwich, panini, wrap or baguette all served with a lovely side salad, and all served by pleasant staff. If your after a nice snack with a nice filling at lunch time this is the place for you.

As someone one else has pointed out, it’s now called the Spey Inn. Was there earlier this week for lunch as in area and parents recommended it from a visit a year or so ago. It was quiet but we got a friendly welcome from the two members of staff. My parents commented on the size of the menu which has apparently changed and did seemed limited in choices. 3 of us ordered the Cullen Skink soup. It tasted fine but not much fish ands lots of potatoes. Three of us then had sandwiches, the Club sandwich was very good, well filled with bacon, tomato etc and was tasty. Me and my mum both had the egg mayonnaise sandwich. It looked different in that it was 2 whole slices of toast which I thought may have been included in the description. That said I can live with this, however what was very unusual and disappointing was the quantity of filling in these two sandwiches. It appeared that there was a smear of egg mayo as in the quantity of butter you would spread on a slice of bread (and in this case it was spread onto 2 slices of thick toast). Without exaggerating it appeared that 1 egg had been used to fill 2 sandwiches . The salad that accompanied it was nice and the fish and chips the other member of our group had was apparently good. We did mention it to the server who said he’d mention our views to the chef, but it just seemed odd. We also mentioned to a member of staff at an early stage of our visit, that there was no soap in the gents toilets (you could clearly see the soap dispenser was empty when you walked in), however when leaving some time later this had not been rectified, despite the fact the restaurant was not busy. It wasn’t a cheap lunch and it was fairly disappointing overall. Unless this was a one off, don’t think I would return.

Today I used my Brodie gift voucher for Afternoon Tea. My husband and I enjoyed the tastiest freshly made sandwiches, quiche, sausage roll and a variety of sweet treats. Although busy the staff were pleasant and helpful.
