They have boards everywhere to go upstairs, but when we got there they said it was closed. We looked at the opening times and it should be open for another 1 hour and 10 minutes. Bad employer or bad signing

The decoration and scenery here is great, you can see the uni’s classic architecture through the windows. Actually I always like to come to this place. However, what makes me feel upset today is the service here. When I wanna made an order, a mid-age black lady sternly scold me that I should take my outside food away( only an orange), and criticize me loudly for minutes, let me feel I was like a student who make big mistakes and be punished to stand in front of her. Not only that, when I pronounced Loosed Leaf as ‘Loosed Diff’ because of anxiety, she repeated ‘LEAF’ loudly and impatiently, which let me feel a bit aggressive. I just wanna read some papers here, that’s all I want. But after that awful experience, I even can’t concentrate on my own work anymore for the whole afternoon but just feel upset and guilty. Also, I noticed there are some outside food on table12 too, but why did she only treat me like that? I just wonder am I really do something so wrong? Or did she treat me like that only because I am ethnic minority? I mean I’ll follow rules here if someone told it to me but why treat me in a way that so mean? I’d appreciate it if anyone can give me an explanation.

A beautiful bistro inside Manchester University Christie building. I came for breakfast and had a really delicious vegan hash, with a pot of tea. Good selection of plant milks. Only let down was when I order toast with none-dairy butter and it arrived dry. They didn’t have any none-dairy butter and unfortunately the staff didn’t know that when they took my order. Otherwise I wouldn’t have ordered it. I feel a little mean only giving 4 stars, but if you’re going to offer vegan breakfast, you really need to have a none-dairy butter option (even a tub of cheap margarine). Recommended and I’ll be back for lunch sometime 😊

Period setting but very informal and comfortable .Lovely waitress ,great service . A bit of the beate track for us but a good find thanks to the voucher .Tasty ,well cooked British cuisine ,the lamb main with artichokes and crumb was delicious , the scallop starter was at a £3 supplement - understandable but this was probably the most underwhelming course - I know its fine dining but the black pudding was hardly present . The voucher was great value and Christies a lovely experience we will repeat .

This was our first visit - took advantage of a 2 course offer with a glass of prosecco. Wonderful surroundings, full of history. The food was excellent - could not fault it. Extremely high standard of preperation , cooking and presentation. Each dish cooked to perfection - loved the lamb. The only downfall was the service. The front of house service should match the standard of the good and unfortunately it didnt. Just needs some attention to detail. Wonderful meal and would return, however if paying full price I would be disappointed with the service.

We were fortunate to visit and be one of the first groups to try the new menu, it was delicious. The soup was really tasty and thick, bread served of a great variety and plentiful. My family loved the dumplings and the side dishes. I had a vegan noodle salad - so fresh, light and satisfying. Probably the best interior out of any eatery in Manchester. The food is generally very good if you stick to certain options; the ham sandwich for example is excellent whereas the chicken wings are far too small to constitute even a side dish. Prices here are really quite high but can be worth it, especially if you stick to the ham sandwich! Avoid the cakes, they leave a lot to be desired, never very tasty at all.

Bedecked for Christmas, looking very festive the Christie's Bistrot is a very nice environment. Coffee is great, staff are really pleasant and cheerful. I could personally do without the cheesy Christmas songs playing in the background. If you are coeliac do ring ahead to find out about any gluten free options because this restaurant is really not clued up for this. I go for coffee but not for anything else. Staff would benefit from more interaction with the chef, as when I have been with colleagues knowledge of menu is not as good as it could be. Visited here for lunch with a group of foreign academics who were very impressed with the decor and the menu. We had booked a table and ordered our food before arriving. On arrival the waitress, who was very pleasant arrived and took drinks orders and was advised we'd have our meals. The drinks arrived but it was a further 50 mins before the food appeared meaning that two of our party had to scoff down their food to get to another meeting. So what looked like a really nice dinner had to be eaten too quickly to be enjoyed properly. I don't know if they were understaffed or what, but we did notice other tables who came in after us being served first and wondered why we had ordered beforehand as it appeared that having done this you had to wait longer to get your food?

The old mill on Redhill street is beautifully refurbished and Ancoats Coffee Co held such promise with glass doors , indoor and outdoor dining space, twinkling fairy lights I chose outside in the lovely Mancunian sunshine to enjoy my cake and fresh orange drink, unfortunately this is where things start to go down hill, firstly cash is not accepted in this establishment, plastic is king, my cake looked like an appealing Madeira on its plate, I think it would have given the lovely refurbished bricks a run for their money, hard is too soft a word but not as hard as the seating, I think I am well padded in the posterior but These chairs WOW they were made of a galvanised material so to be expected but couldn’t you have invested in something soft to sit on !
