Chips has a weird after taste. The rolls tastes off. Cod was okay.

I am a regular so I know the staff well. The manager was upset today at a review and she phoned to check with me as my chips were from the same batch as the 'child' that lodged the bad review. I know for a fact the reviewer was a school kid as I was standing behind and was the last to be served...... Not even going to comment. I had the ribs and chips and it was to the usual high standard. Chris's might not be the cheapest but one thing you cannot fault them for is product quality. Keep up the good work.

Delivery driver today was aggressive when I attempted to explain the last 4 digits from my mobile number would suffice the code requirement. He didn't know & wouldn't listen. Food last week was not what we ordered. These ludicrous codes required will close this business if you don't send them to the customer. Sent email to staff for help a week ago & no reply.

Lovely food but poor service. Last time I ordered online, got to the shop to find it closed! Eventually got a refund. Today we phoned at 1730 for collection at 1800…. I paid at 1757, I was still waiting to collect at 1825! Lots of others were standing around waiting too. Really poor service, needs to buck up. I’ll be going to Oldhams in future, it’s further but far more efficient - and even tastier.

Cracking Fish & Chip shop. Now Hannah is in charge of the cooking the deep fried cod is truly exquisite ! Gone are the days when it was soggy in the middle. Paulo looks very smart in his chauffeurs uniform. He has finally found his niche.

After a long day we stop to treat ourselves to some fish and chips. The staff were friendly and helpful. When we got home the food was still hot and tasted freshly cooked. I'd happily recommend this and will be making it my regular chippy.

I have become a semi-regular of this chippy over the last few years. They offer consistently good quality food and are a very welcoming place at competitive prices. Their burgers, fish and sausages are all reliably great and highly recommended. The only criticism I would table is that their chips are largely unremarkable and basic in a part of town where there are chippies that have truly amazing chips (Oldhams/Fish House/etc..). Certainly not a reason to skip on their otherwise excellent selection. Overall a provider of repeated excellent food.

For people who delivery , please make a roof, because it's not very pleasant to wait when it's raining.And then you will have five stars.

Not great. The place is in need of a really good clean. Chips were cooked in what tasted like old oil.

Reliably good food. Chips always perfectly cooked, fish is fresh. It's usually busy which is a good sign of quality too.

I havnt ordered from here in a while as part of our order was missing but thought we would give it another try, low and behold missing part of the order again this time. Staff wasn't interested in refunding the items and food was barely warm once delivered. Won't be ordering from here again. In regards to your response below, it's not the delivery driver stealing a pot of curry sauce, you need to ensure that the orders are correctly packed from your end.!!! I notice its a common theme that you blame the delivery drivers, maybe you should consider not using them!

Ordered the jack Daniels burger no crispy onions bacon was rank and it wasn't fresh the chips had been cooked more than twice and my partner had the chicken version both done in under 5 mins as well my partners chicken was rubbery on the end

Awful customer service! Ordered via Uber eats. Only received 3 cod bites instead of 6. We rang the shop to explain what had happened. They blamed the Uber delivery driver, even though the bag was sealed. They refused to compensate us or send out the further 3 and told us to ring Uber. It’s ridiculous that they would blame the delivery driver for steal 3 x cod bites rather than accept responsibility and help us complete our meal before it all went cold. Won’t go back! Edit - No refund or compensation was offered when we tried to resolve this at the time. Only now mentioned in their response below. We won’t go back, so a won’t need a discount on our next order.

This was our first time trying here not being local to the area, and had quickly checked the Google reviews but not Tripadvisor ones and it seems on this some peoples' experiences of Chris chippy havent been so good! Maybe we were lucky but we were very happy! The place seemed clean and well run and there was a steady flow of people coming through. Fish was excellent with lovely crispy batter and chips and mushy peas were good. Was expensive I thought but portions massive and could easily have been shared..ended up with quite a bit leftover. Would happily come back in the area.

My usual chippy was closed and went in for cod and chips same price as my usual place but fish half the size and looked like a pre frozen effort soggy chips too.

I have had bbq ribs in the uk al over , in the USA and Australia and I have to say that Chris’s ribs are the best I’ve ever tasted, tender and full of flavour and I’m not kidding they are the best 👍👍👍😘

Best peri peri chicken ever, don't know about the rest of the menu as that's all I get there but if is half as good as their peri peri sauce it's more than worth the money

Well cooked food with an excellent choice and reasonable prices.

Poor Customer service it was like the server didn't want to take our order. The food was not great either the lack of love for serving carried into what can only be described as dismally poor cooked chips and a battered sausage. I wasn't alone my two colleagues were also left reeling with the poor taste of mediocre food. Sad really the gentleman was quite polite but the young lady was rude and the food wasn't worthy of a star.

Very good fish and chip shop, didn't give a 5 star as it doesn't serve a full menu all week, asked for chicken and was told only on a Friday!

i went in there on the 20/8/21 and the woman who was cooking the food placed a bit of rock eel that she had just cooked on top of the cooked sausages so if anyone went in there after the fish has been on top of the sausages that couldn't eat fish they wouldn't of known it had been contaminated by fish juice i message the company but they never got back to me and there was a bloke also cooking with long hair it wasn't tried up and we had cod and the middle part of the fish wasn't hot which's means they don't test the food before the put it into the hot cabinet be careful what you order and make sure to check its hot so disappointed as was a lovely chip shop

Ordered at 4pm, on their website, which said delivery would be between 4.50 and 5.05pm. AFTER the order had been confirmed, I received an email to say it would be dispatched at 5.35pm! By 6pm it still hadn't arrived so I phoned (shop is only 7 mins away). When delivery eventually turned up, 2 hours after ordering, I asked the delivery driver what had taken so long. She was surly and off-hand, telling me she only started work at 5.30. I asked if there were any other delivery drivers, she didn't know? I asked if she worked for Chris', she said yes. Very abrupt. If she didn't start til 5.30 why did their website advise me that delivery would be between 4.50 and 5.05? And, if it was dispatched at 5.35, why did it take her half an hour to drive 7 minutes? Chips were also luke warm by the time they arrived. Ribs were fantastic though.

We love the food from this shop but unfortunately on two occasions recently we have had to cancel the order because food was so late. To day I placed my order at 4pm as soon as the shop opened. Food was set to arrive at 5.50 but by 6 30 we had heard nothing so I rang the shop and found that it hadn’t even left the shop and would be at least another 30-40 minutes! The previous time we ordered and kept being told it was” in the next batch to go with carrier” ! It’s a shame because we really like the food but as we are without transport so rely on delivery we will have to look elsewhere .

Food awful. Hygiene awful. Watched greasy large man pick his nose, whilst waiting for my Chinese from a couple of shops down. Unaware of discriminatory laws. Unaware of government laws. Rude and ignorant.

You haft to love a full rack ov ribs in jack Daniels bbq sauce !! A rack4 me and a rack 4 my 85 year old mum ... :-) :-) Also the chips are very good as well.. sometimes I grab half a chicken as well when I'm really hungry !! I always give praise when due... CLIVE L

Food ordered at 6.30pm. After the shop calling twice to give a new time. It finally arrived at 8.50, nearly two and a half later. Fish hot chips cold. Not a good experience.

We ordered twice from Chris' last year (via Uber Eats) and the food was absolutely first class - delicious fish in light, crispy, batter and great traditional chips. However, we ordered again on Friday and unfortunately the quality seems to have gone downhill - the batter was not as good as before but the main issue was the chips. Instead of traditional fish and chip shop chips, they seem to have been replaced with the type of chips that you might find in a work canteen or supermarket own-brand frozen packet. This really spoiled a meal we were looking forward to - I really hope this was some sort of temporary issue due to the shop being really busy but please go back to the excellent chips you used to cook!

Really fantastic food- large cod is absolutely enormous and so well cooked and tasty. Chips very fresh and not at all greasy. Only slight issue was the wait- granted I didnt preorder. Also due to the fact it was Saturday night, staff were working nonstop and many many delivery guys came in, I was waiting almost half an hour for the food and it was just cod and chips nothing complicated. But still highly recommend! Maybe order in advance on the phone if you dont want a long wait at the shop.

We don't know what you did different tonight, but your fish was the best I've ever tasted from your shop. Full of flavour, crispy batter, and crispy chips, not oily like normal. Please keep doing whatever you did different tonight!

Love this chippy, if you haven't tried their cod and ribs you are missing out. Massive portions of crunchy chips don't hurt either. I read a couple of bad reviews on here that really surprise me, I guess everywhere can have a bad day. Especially at the moment.

My 89yr old mother rang yesterday evening and ordered a large fish and chips for delivery during lockdown. Order was taken with a delivery time given of one hour. My mother lives 6 minutes away by road. After an hour and a half no delivery arrived. My mother rang back and was told that her order has been cancelled due to it not being expensive enough. No one rang her to tell her this. They just cancelled her order. Don’t have a problem if they don’t want to delivery !!. But you tell your customers that! SHAME ON YOU.

Paid on line, after trying to phone for an hour gave up with that obviously left off the hook, eventually arrived over hour and a half late, although paid already told driver to take it away, he didn't seem surprised in fact I think he thought it was funny, no apology after, last time for me, they may not care now but keep doing that they won't survive anyway.

Food was cold and items missing when I messaged them to let them know I had a really nasty message back. AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE

Used to be great, perhaps they have just got too popular and now don't care, last week was 50 mins late food was tepid.Tonight no idea what the food was like I told the driver to take it back, it arrived nearly an hour and 45 mins late, spent continuous half hour chasing but phone obviously taken off the hook. Already paid on card, no update and no apology after, shame as no business will survive with that level of service.

We have just eaten, fish and chips from Chris'. Wow, what delightful food. I had special cod and chips [which is a smaller portion] my husband had plaice and chips. The food was not greasy at all, batter on both fish was light and fluffy, and the chips, were fantastic. We will definately order again from here. The food arrived on the stated time and was piping hot. Thank you so much Chris', a true local gem.

Food is fine but delivery times are terrible. 50 mins late after estimated delivery time with no update or apology.

After reading reviews that this chain is one of the best in Essex we thought we'd give it a go. Sadly it wasn't, the fish was ok but the chips were awful and to top it off we asked for plenty of salt and vinegar but could barely taste either. On plus the gherkin was spot on.

I ordered the cod and chips lastnight and it was absolutely delicious and the bonus is they actually do home delivery, the only down side is they dont deliver under £12.00. (The curry sauce was really nice too very similar to the magic wok 😉)

Great value for money and fantastic food.

I had to wait 30 minutes just to get chicken and chips, they even told me it would only be 7 minutes and it was very dark and cold outside and I’m only young so I had to go home. I arrived way before lots of other customers and they got served before me. Food was okay but the lack of customer attention is appalling.
