Chozen Noodle in Monmouthshire

I tried this for the first time tonight and I was impressed. I chose the sticky chicken and noodles and a vegetable spring roll. They were absolutely delicious. Craig who served me was friendly and helpful and efficient. We dined in at the Magor services on the M4. I will definitely be back! Trish 🙂

Really good food, friendly service (a rarity at motorway services!) and decently priced. Ps ignore the bad reviews with photos of breakfast and the likes on here, clearly not this Asian place! 😊

One of the best katsu chicken curry and rice bowls I've had all year! It's service station food so I wasn't expecting anything amazing, but I really enjoyed. The two staff members were lovely as well, would definitely recommend!

Great to have an alternative option to McDonalds and Costa coffee sandwiches/cakes. The rating of ‘4 stars’ for food was not due to taste etc (Thai green chicken curry and spicy chicken were very tasty), but the fact that most of the carton is rice or noodles and a small amount of sauce / curry only. Ratio is well out, and for the price (~£18 for 2 cartons - 1 reg, 1 large) a little more sauce would result in a much more satisfying meal.

We visited at lunch time and had the sticky chicken over rice and really enjoyed it! Also have sides of the katsu prawns and vegetable spring rolls. All was really delicious and the ladies serving were super friendly and helpful.

Bad times. Bad, bad times. The breakfast bagels looked ok in the photos on the rolling video screen but after the sullen server took our order and we'd waited a while, what arrived had no flavour at all. A friend told me these are the worst services in the land. I think it might be true.

If I could give zero stars.... The single thing I can say which isn't negative is the food was hot. Rice over cooked, you need to be a treasure hunter to find the chicken on the stir fry, no spice whatsoever despite being sold as spicy chicken. Just avoid avoid avoid

I had a Katsu curry noodles thinking it would be authentic enough to fit the bill, It was absolutely disgusting the chicken was deep fried yet not cooked through there was too much sauce and the noodles were horrible eggy starchy mess I highly recommend to not eat at one of these

Shows it’s shuts at 8pm, got there at 6:30 to be told it’s closed. Nothing else

We had a sausage bap and a veggie breakfast. It took ages for the veggie sausage to be cooked. The women member of staff was the most grumpiest person I've ever met. If she hates her job so much then why work there. The bap for the sausages was so dry that it fell apart in my hands and everything fell to the plate and had to be eaten with a knife and fork. The veggie sausages were fried so much that they were hard and the fried eggs were rubbery and solid! Terrible service and awful food.

WORST BREAKFAST I'VE EVER HAD Ordered a sausage bap and a veggie breakfast this morning with a coffee. 'Greated' by a scowling server who looked like she wanted to be anywhere else in the world rather than here serving her customers. Waited for ages for the veggie sausage to be 'deep fried' to within an inch of their lives. The bap used for the sausage bap was so dry that it just crumbled and fell apart when it was picked up....totally inedible! The fried egg was like rubber, along with the half slice of mushroom, whilst the veggie sausages were almost impossible to cut because they had been overcooked. And this cost almost £15! Absolutely terrible food and terrible service. I'd never eat here again.

Ordered the large Thai red curry, I got 3/4 of a cup of rice, 3 tiny pieces of chicken, a cube of baby sweet corn and sauce. Absolute rip off I’ll never visit again! This cost £8.50!

It is not large! Large is the cup but nit the portion. And the staffs should have more life in them. Totally disappointed

Much better than the usual junk food. Thai Green Veg Curry with noodles is alright - can't go wrong with that.

Said it closed at 8pm but when we arrived at 7.30pm it was closed. Very disappointed.

The only "Chozen" thing that I got was cold noodles

The prawn crackers were covered in oil and tasted more like plastic. Green curry was ok. Staff seemed to have no idea what they were doing and very little choice. It was 18:45 so should have had all options available. Doubt I’ll ever choose this place again.

As far as motorway service food is concerned this is as about as good as it gets. A katsu curry and sweet n sour where both tasty and plentiful. The guy serving us was methodical but efficient and served up two pots of tasty and filling good. Will definitely ready there again.

Sitting in here now, the place is an absolute shambles. First the fire alarm went off just before we got served. All the staff went out of the building leaving the customers to evacuate themselves, with the exception of one older guy, a cleaner, who came back to tell everyone what was happening. Shouldn't the staff assist people to evacuate? No-one knew what the cause was, although it was clearly displayed on the control panel by the door, which no-one was looking at. Needless to say, false alarm. Waited outside for a while then went back in. It was as though it had never happened, no explanation, no apology, nothing. So queued again for Chozen noodle. Had run out of loads of things including the duck which was my choice, and only two dishes were hot enough to serve because the power had been off apparently. We choose teriyaki chicken with rice. When we started to eat it was clear that the rice was uncooked. So took it back and, rather than ask for a refund, chose noodles instead. By way of contrast, the noodles were overcooked, almost to the point of mushy. Better than uncooked though! Had to eat it after 4 hours in some of the worst motorway traffic and weather I can remember, but we'll hesitate to stop here again. Nice cup of tea though... Update: Thanks for your response Matthew, I've done as you suggest. Just to say; I've eaten at the Chozen franchises at Watford Gap and Chester and they've been great.

The food was ok but I had a huge thirst on after the sweet chilli teriyaki chicken and the chicken looked and tasted like it had been kept in brine.

Got one of the worst food poisonings in my life, took me two days to recover. Place and food looked shady but I was really hungry and didn’t want to eat anything deep fried (from Mc). Never again.

Staff had no idea that Katsu sauce was supposed to be a thicker consistency and not curry-flavoured water, made the food taste awful. Isolated incident I hope as we’ve never had this problem at other branches.

Panko prawns quite nice but chicken teriyaki looked appetizing but way too salty! Couldn't eat it. Would of needed to drink a gallon of water!

Just broke my chozen noodle virginity. Brilliant service . Little test pots given to pick which curry I preferred. Food was gorgeous . Good value as well . Recommend the green Thai.curry

Tasted really good, fast service had the chicken teriyaki and was pleasantly surprised. I know most people would be put of service station noodles but this really is worth a bash.

After requesting to taste the Green and Red Thai Chicken curries, I ordered the Red one with Noodles. I thought the curries tasted a bit too sweet, but thought to myself that mixing it with noodles would temper the taste. For £5.95 I got a decent portion, but the quality was horrendous!! The noodles were so so salty, it was unbelievable! I don't know how this company is allowed to sell food. I ate what I could because I was extremely hungry, but definitely couldn't finish it. If you are thinking if eating here, my advice is DON'T! But if you feel you are too weak to resist, then ask to taste the curry and rice / noodles combinations together. Otherwise chances are that you will be heavily disappointed.
